  1. Why does it have to be a matter of 'calling someone out'? Unless someone is insisting that their way is the only way, and this goes for both sides of the spectrum, why can't they all be listed on the virtues of their pros and cons? Because that is truly helpful, and gives the TC the independence to choose for themselves what best fits their playing style.
  2. I completely disagree. The only tips needed are those specified by the topic creator, like "I don't want too much of a grind, I want to train via minigame, I want the most profit". All suggestions should be in line with what they want. Mind you though if the TC is vague in asking about what he wants then people should be free to post whatever they want, and will typically post what is most commonly desired: and that is speed. Efficiency. Whatever. To go into a H&A thread with such a dogmatic views is downright irresponsible for someone claiming to want to help people. EDIT: Of course if you go into a thread that specificly mentions what they want, yet explain to them (politely) alternatives and the pros & cons of what they desire against their methods, then that seems perfectly fine too. It's all too grey to define in one single post, which is probably why so many threads get out of hand. I DUNNO LOLSZ@#!
  3. That makes me wonder if people felt that way why they even bother to help at all. It must get annoying seeing the same questions over and over, or someone obstinately saying their methods are correct when obviously wrong, but there's no need to pay them any heed.
  4. So why not report it? You're not supposed to name users in a negative light, and it's against the spirit of the community to be derogatory to other people. Wouldn't something like that be removed?
  5. Clans give users a reason to play as much as quest schedule releases or skill reworks do. Keeping players playing is important. That makes clan updates as important as anything else. I don't understand how you can say this update was detrimental. Just how exactly does this update hurt your gameplay? I'll eat my shoe if you can give me a valid reason, I will.
  6. It would be a huge turn off for me but, to be honest, wouldn't stop me from playing. Not immediately, anyway. I imagine these items you propose kind of like the extremely powerful corrupt items you used to get from PvP drops...Don't think it would play out very well. For the players, the money they gain would never be worth the degradation of gameplay, yet it certainly wouldn't kill the game. As a business, they'd do it if it meant keeping the game running and getting enough profit in the bargain. I can only be thankful that things haven't gotten to that point yet.
  7. I guess you won't be able to see the benefit unless you can get past the fact that you don't like clans. Because the benefit is clearly there, and it most certainly warranted a spot as the week's update. As does future clan support updates, after years of being woefully overlooked. I guess it's just something we'll never see eye to eye on, and that's okay I suppose :P
  8. Yet you're implying this update has no purpose, when that's quite clearly not the case. What are you saying then, if not that they're incompetent by releasing content that you feel has no use?
  9. [hide] So are clans. Just because you are ignorant of them, does not make them disappear. One project released that isn't skill related does not mean they've given up on such things altogether. You just said that F2P doesn't deserve a lot of content. So why should f2p updates precede anything else? Shouldn't it instead be small, gradual things over time...which it has? They offered a TON of these updates not even a few weeks ago. And again another ongoing project. Runtek 5, anyone? [/hide] A lot of your thoughts on what they 'should' put their resources into already are being done. Lordy, there was one update that didn't appeal to you and suddenly they're a failure of a business wasting development time when there's clearly a need for content just like this. I find it hard to take such an argument seriously when it's so shortsighted.
  10. That's because people actually cared about that yesterday. This is crap. Pointless waste of resources for how much it'll be used. And so why the hell does Jagex keep creating stuff for PKers/Clans? Well - it's all about the "community" dontcha know ... The reason there was so much focus on TIF yesterday were because the game was down for the better part of a day and everyone was interested because this mysterious update affected their gameplay at that moment... Not all updates are for everyone. These are decent updates and were long overdue. If you're not in a clan, or never have been in a proper one, you can't imagine the lack of support they've given us over the years.
  11. Well, many of people have groaned about that selfsame thing. Maybe that's their way of removing the deadlocked focus of the 99 cape in lieu of the greater achievement capes yet to come? Or to return the drive back in enjoyment of the skill itself and not simply the cape? I'm not certain. It could be a myriad of things, least of which the icons are just cool and reusable, proven to work on cape items already, and a safe choice.
  12. If you're blessed with a continuity of RS knowledge, yes, but I haven't played for three months and I'm not really in a position to relearn all the news because I'm already trying to catch up on years of missed information in Pokemon (which is a surprising lot). TBH when I first saw the capes, it was a cape with a magic hat and a death rune. I thought during the three months I'd been away they'd replaced the trimmed skillcapes with capes that showed two icons instead. I at least expected Jagex to have the common sense not to put skill icons on the clan capes anyway. Not to be rude but you're acting as if the differences are so overwhelming that it will take you more than an hour's worth of gameplay time to realize the difference. Yes, it's a startling change for one who has been away for a period of time. Can it harm you though? I can't imagine a single way that a newbie or someone returning from hiatus could be harmed by such an update. So what do you have to worry over? It doesn't affect your gameplay whatsoever and you'll naturally pick up the change as you get back into the game. Overall, it's a very minor issue that has a very short lifespan where it's apparent to someone like yourself. (ie someone returning from hiatus)
  13. The people who are screwing around with the clan capes and making them look like skill capes are just riding out the hype. It's like the chat filter when it first came out, every juvenile came out of the woodwork just to say the f-word a few times and see it on screen. These too will die down as more clans get a chance to get their capes up and running. A good small step in the right direction so far. I hope they finish up the backend updates soon so everything works properly
  14. You most likely logged out immediately and didn't lose anything. Logging back in, however, will be a different matter entirely. Be careful when you do.
  15. they should really say something about the outage on the front page - the rs facebook page is not a replacement..... Oh don't get me wrong...I sure as hell agree with that. What I should have said, I guess, was that "they would've announced it in advance." >_> My bad, thanks Pal2002 for pointin' it out. I'm a bit of a dunce sometimes.
  16. Fairly confident that if they expected such downtime to happen, they would've announced it. Toad's probably right, they're converting, but I'll bet this was an unexpected outcome.
  17. Kimberly replied to nuttydoctor's topic in Rants
+1 The interface when you try to get it to catch a rat, or pet it, etc. It's very outdated and makes catching rats in Evil Dave's basement a little annoying, to say the least. "BUT IT SHOULD BE A LITTLE DIFFICULT, SPICES GIVE hUGE BOOSTS LOL!" I hear my opponents shout. Yet remember when the cats were designed, way back when in the earlier days of RS2. It's clearly shown its age by not even getting a right click option.
  18. Like what? They can't handle DDoSing--they can provide us an alternative, like they already are with private boards. (I'd like to see anyone successfully get away with DDoSing them.) They can't force people not to be absolutely, infinitely asinine and having dumb, easily guessed recoveries/passwords/safe questions--but they can offer incentives to register emails and take extra security measures, which they are. The people working on these current updates are from all different teams. There is no saying that this Clan Camp project and all it entails is preventing them from doing other things consecutively.
  19. So wait, are we even discussing the same thing anymore? Half of this seems to be a spat between users who frequent that black abyss known as the pictures thread, which should be nuked to kingdom come anyway...
  20. A spot you can check out would be the ones within the gnome stronghold, which are nice and close to a bank. Whether they're the best spot or not overrun, I'm not positive. I don't frequently chop yews mainly for the reasons green listed above.
  21. Are you reflecting your feelings onto the group?
  22. Bumping an older topic with relevant information in a constructive manner isn't against the rules though.
  23. Any efforts of Jagex getting out of the clan world and embracing OUR techniques is going to help us in the long run and saying "Well we already have these things lol!" is severely short-sighted. If you're talking about short term benefit? No, you're right, we as off-site clans are not going to see much of that. But like I said...I'm in it for the long haul. But some of the things we're getting out of this, to put it into perspective? A stable memberlist, for one. How often does Runehead go down? Like once every week or so. How often does runescape.com go down....? I can't even remember the last time it happened. An extra layer of security, though a very thin one, is also something else we're going to reap with this. Although accounts get compromised, in-game communication is, for the most part, a good way of verifying account identity or passing along information. Did your forums just get ddosed? Well then you can have a FREE backup now, provided by Runescape.com. There. Those are three reasons that help us modern folk tremendously, as they directly address some of the frustrations we experience today as off-site clans.
  24. It was broken. Why do you think people were driven to off-site areas, that projects like Runehead and Clantrackers spawned? Because they felt like doing something while downing a bag of cheese doodles? C'mon now. They spawned out of necessity and because Jagex was too behind on the times. They're making up for YEARS of a lack of attentiveness to player's needs in the clan world. The long and short of it is they're going to be villified no matter what. To compete with what we already have made for ourselves, they would have to copy existing structures which. Imagine how that would go. "OMG U COPIED RUNEHEADZ. W2G JAGEX LOL" Or they can start from basics and cover the fundamental features while working to expand them, which is likely what they're going to do since they have no strong experience in matters like these to draw on...and then they're going to get bashed for not being perfect right from the start. Runehead wasn't perfect from the get-go and it still is far from it, but will people remember that? Nah. This needs to happen. They need to show attention to the needs of their most active and vocal memberbase as company. And then they need to do the hardest thing of all: be consistent with it and don't let the ball drop. I was one of the users who wanted Jagex to take these measures and I'm thrilled they're actually going through with it. I might not agree with all the steps they're taking right away (the ingame measures of it is kind of weird to me) but if they're dedicated to what these projects truly mean, they will change it and get it to where it needs to be. I've waited this long...I can wait a little longer. And god help them if they don't follow through, because it will close off any chance of closing the gap between off-site and RSOF for another generation's worth.
  25. That would've been a much more entertaining theme for April Fools.
