2013 New Year Resolutions
Finally, someone with realistic goals! Curious what would his reaction be if the exact opposites happen with him hitting the multi-million jackpot on the lottery, having insane luck with the opposite sex, and winning every single contest entered, thus "failing". I'd probably fall into the depths of depression as I realize that I'm incapable of even succeeding at failing.

2013 New Year Resolutions
I never actually complete my New Year's resolutions so this year I'm gonna cheat the system. I plan to become impoverished, be terrible at dealing with women, lose at everything, and not to become a god.

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
How hard it is to find classy/ unobtrusive merchandise relating to shows in general (but especially anime). All I want is a nice watch or keychain that will remind me of my favorite show when I look at it, but also is subtle enough that it can't be seen as such without close inspection/knowledge of the show. Like a watch holding a subtle outline of a character on its face, or a symbol that's prevalent throughout the show. Not one that has the show's name written across it and a full mugshot of a character on its face. Why is this so hard? Does no-one else want to quietly celebrate their favorite shows? How many full body pillows do I need to scroll past to find this?

Oh gosh I can't wait to see that. I'll be able to see cute characters be brutally killed in full animation!

Manga/Anime Discussion
^I loved that anime a lot, which is weird for me because it's the type of show that I'd normally dislike on reflex. The manga version is arguably a lot better though, as it goes further and gets pretty intense for a while (the SIsters Arc from Misaka's point of view has an incredibly nightmarish feel to it). Recently watched Clannad, Clannad Afterstory, and Angel Beats. I really don't have any real complaints about any of them, other than the fact that final episode of Clannad Afterstory was a recap was kind of boring (I basically marathon-ed the entire series so everything was still fresh).

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
The way I see it, a marriage requires the following to work long term: A mutual sexual attraction. A mutual mental attraction. A buildup of positive shared experiences and trust during the Honeymoon phase that is formidable enough to hold the couple together even when the honeymoon phase is nothing but a memory. If those three can be fully achieved then a marriage would be a very positive thing. You've got lust, but also just plain like the person and will enjoy doing things other than sex with them (judging that most of the time one spends with their wife/husband doesn't involve sex). Ideally the friendship* aspect of this bond will be deep enough that the person will be a person you would actively seek out to do things with even outside of a relationship. Trust (something you WILL have to maintain constantly, because once it's gone it usually doesn't come back) allows you to support each other and thus overcome obstacles and the like that may have been impossible alone. Of course, many marriages fail on at least one of the three main points and that's why there're so many unhappy marriages out there. It isn't a massively common thing for two people to match well enough to enjoy living together long term, after all. *Friendship probably isn't the best word to use here, due to its platonic connotations, but I think you get my point.

We're not saying that men are an inherently oppressed gender, though. What we're saying is that there are many fields and situations in which women are treated unfairly, and yes those should be remedied. But there are also some fields and situations in which men are treated unfairly, and those should be remedied as well. You can't only address the issues one gender is facing, because frankly there are issues for both. I mean who is going to get more flak? A woman wearing jeans or a man wearing a skirt? Why should a guy get flak for wearing women's clothing, or being a "stay at home dad"?

Hot celebrities/models!! :) Post them here!!
^I'm about 189% certain that it was intended to be awful. Did you watch it to the end? And the Aussie girl is Miranda Kerr, I think. Definitely a prime candidate for this thread.

[hide] Dio Brando would like to call BS on that.[/hide]A quick google search on Dio Brando tells me that he has lost fights, and judging that's he's a vampire that makes me assume he fights some enemies far more powerful than average humans.Regardless, my point still stands that trying to compare Superman with, say, GI Joe in terms of strength is just dumb because both have entirely different challenges facing them. Also, putting Goku in a different series that has less powerful characters would be boring as heck because "Goku beats the shit out of everything with minimal effort" isn't exactly an engaging plot.

^I consider myself extremely easy going, but if a guy hit me in the nads with an iron poker I'm pretty sure I'd break his arm. Seriously, that's incredible restraint to not just start beating him with the poker. And your parents sound like they don't know how to parent.

Let's be real here. The strongest characters are the ones who reached god status. But crossing series is almost always a bad idea in my opinions. Comparing a character whose Universe has villains who can blow up planets on a whim and a character whose foes are normal guys with knives isn't even close to reasonable.

School shooting in CT on 14-12-2012
Donnie, you might want to read up on "Dunbar's Number". The basic concept of it is that we have a maximum number of people we can legitimately care about the deaths of. It's why your mom dying will hit you like a truck, but fifty people on the other side of the world dying seems almost meaningless. If we assigned the level of importance we assign to our close loved ones to everyone, we'd all be so emotionally scarred that we wouldn't be able to function. Massacres scare us because they can happen to anyone and at any time. They're horror stories that hit home, and when they involve children they're even more terrifying because the lives of children are often viewed as even more sacred than those of adults (especially by parents). Civilian casualties in wars are scary because they can happen to anyone, but only in a war. For the citizens of most 1st world countries, war isn't considered much of a threat any more (whether that is accurate or not). We freak out a lot more over the stuff that can affect us, and that's natural. Certainly more attention should be paid to the atrocities of war, but not by downplaying tragedies like these.

Those don't sound like light-hearted concepts to me  At least not when viewed through a realistic lens and not a "let's milk this for punchlines" one.

If I were to watch Clannad, would I be better off watching Clannad itself and then the after story after? Or should I skip the main Clannad?

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
EDIT: Oh wait, for some reason the fact that you had lab together didn't really register with me. What RPG said, but did you interact with her at all during that lab? In other news, I think I may need some advice as well. I'm not going to ask yet though because I'm still not sure what to ask, I just know I'm not handling things all that well. If I can't think of a good way to put it I'll just post a wall of text explaining the situation later.
