Squeal of Fortune + Buyable Spins
Just because some investors have done that doesn't mean they all do and it doesn't mean Jagex's do. My dad is a successful investor and so are many of his friends. He's adamant that most investors would prefer to invest in the company, help build it up to make it strong and reputable, maybe give it a push to help it grow/succeed/expand, and get higher profits in the long-term. Investing is about long-term. In most cases it isn't about short, get rich quick schemes. It isn't an investor's job to run the company. They don't WANT to. They're there to give money, maybe offer advice, and use their contacts to help get the company moving. They're not there to change management, be part of day-to-day operations, or even run the company. They're there to invest. If the company isn't making enough profit I'm sure they'd give advice and make a few changes. But otherwise, they're not there to run the company. I'm sure Jagex's investors would prefer to make the company strong and help them either 1) make RuneScape even more popular or 2) give them the funds they need to help them make another extremely popular game. If they just run RuneScape into the ground for the sake of quick profits, they're running Jagex as a company into the ground (because that's their only highly popular game). It's in everyone's best interest to help Jagex make another highly successful product (and/or improve the one they have) that will then give them even more profits to play with in the future. If Jagex does manage to make another popular game, I'm sure a lot more profit could be made from that than from milking a dying game for all it's worth. Well, but you have to admit that we've seen some pretty drastic changes from the moment investors took over, that leaves only two reasonable options that I can see: 1)The investors have taken over and DO run the company 2)Jagex is, for whatever reason(Maybe because all their other games have failed, they've blown millions into stellardawn and runescape can't be running forever), desperate and the investors are merely a side effect of that. Not sure which option I find more likely...or more comforting for that matter....

RWT advertisement on TIF forum?
It's not intentional, they cannot select what ads are shown. If you see any gold-selling ads(Or ads for other games), you can report them by clicking the "report ad" link right next to the ad, which will take you to a forum thread where you'll be instructed what to do.

Optimus
Jacmob at some point posted on RsBuddy that it would be released soon (I think he said "in the coming weeks", no guarantee though). But...yeah, that could mean a lot of things, especially if he already got used to the Jagex "soon"

Facebook privacy question
Facebook connections are reciprocal. If someone is a friend of a friend, then (s)he would also see me as a friend of a friend. I am aware of this my point however was your privacy settings effects who can add you, not who you can add. Just because they are set to friend of a friend does not mean you can add anyone who is a friend of a friend.; it means any who is a friend of a friend can add you. However, the lowest setting to accept friends request that is available on facebook is "friend of a friend". If the other person is the friend of his friend, then he should be able to add the other person, unless he/she has a specific option to prevent that. The point of the thread was to ask if this option exists.

Trailers and Trolls - New RuneScape Trailer
No they couldn't. Most of their trailers using in-game graphics have been fairly sub standard. It's a limitation of the game engine that cinematic movie making is just not possible. But it's obvious a lot of people just throw Jagex hate onto this, a non-Jagex product, even though it is the norm in the game industry. Did you see the last trailer? In terms of graphics, it was just as good as this one tbh. And if they're going to make a cinematic trailer, it should be a good one and not...that.

Stuff you could NEVER get into
Where the lead is screaming. It's quite self explanatory. And on that note, over categorised music. It annoys me when people get annoyed that their favourite music is classed in a broader genre and not some super niche which nobody has ever heard of but is totally what it is. Well...that's by far not necessarily screamo. Screamo = Screaming+emo. Which I don't like as I don't like emo. There are good bands with screaming leads though... But I definitely agree with the over categorization. The discussions of "metalcore != metal" alone...I mean, I understand it, and I don't like metalcore either....but aren't there seriously more important topics? And metalcore is still a pretty broad genre...

Squeal of Fortune + Buyable Spins
Investors do care about long term health. They'd rather yield a lot of profit than a little profit. Well of course they're not out there and trying to destroy this game as soon as possible, but to them it doesn't matter if you have short period of huge profits or a longer period of smaller profits. Or, to put it more realistically: There is a chance that over time, because of microtransactions, the interest in this game will die(Considering that it's almost only based on achievements, that isn't too unlikely imo). If Jagex was fully in control of themselves, they might avoid that risk. For investors, the increased profits make up for that. Of course for investors, if one of the game's they've invested in, that's bad. But it's just one source of money. For the game company itself it's death or life. That's the difference.

Squeal of Fortune + Buyable Spins
That is assuming they put the money to good use... I may be being pessimistic but I feel some of these extra profits will go straight into people's pockets. Well ultimately Jagex is a company so they'll be looking more into long-term investment. Of course some money will go into peoples' pockets, but that's because people are working jobs and have to get paid. But the best way to secure Jagex as a company in the long-term would be to put the money back into the company (whether that's investing in future game projects or putting more money into RuneScape). Jagex wants to succeed and grow as a company and if they just pay themselves more and more rather than reinvesting in the company, they won't keep growing. Well...that's the problem with investors, right? They don't have to care about long term health of a company. They invest their money, milk it as long as it yields profit and then hop off to leave it dying. For Jagex themselves, of course the long term investment would be the best, because they can't simply take their money and invest it somewhere else because they have no experience with that. Investors however can do exactly that....

Blisterwood polearm vs Ivandis flail
Blisterwood is definitely better. I think with 500 vyres burned, it has a max hit around 900 or so, and the flail around..600? Not sure on the exact numbers, but blisterwood is definitely far better.

Not going to waste my time with watching more of that crap...

Trailers and Trolls - New RuneScape Trailer
Eh? Pretty Bland Trailer tbh. No epic music, nothing special shown(Wow, they're fighting a monster together. How creative...). Nothing that shows anything that might distinguish this from 100 other free mmorpgs... There could be so many better trailers...

200M in all Skills
Interesting.. I always wondered why we didn't have a chance at effigies from skilling. Who would've thought this would be how it was to be implemented? Actually it seems like I only get it once per day... I got 2 spins from burning roots today (in a span of 2 hours). Yesterday, I got 1 from skilling and 1 from combat. It's definitely not 1 per day. Sure it is. Once per skill per day, just like sacred thingy is two per skill per week. I got 2 from 2 herb farm runs. Well that's pretty odd. I've only gotten one per day so far doing Agility and it seems to happen relatively early on during my day. Edit: Some TMOA people are telling me they're getting 2. Maybe it's 2 per day or 2 per skill per day, and I'm just having bad luck with Agility or it's programmed differently for Agility to be 1 only, idk. Or it's a fixed reset time (like Midnight gmt) and they just happened to be playing around that time? Would of course only work the first day if they get their tickets every day.

Ye Tip.It Times - 1st April 2012
Indeed, they definitely have to add a lot more resources, and make the existing ones far better. I wonder though if they think that the BH update will be enough to satisfy PKers, although it's basically quite a different system...

The Game of Thrones TV series - Season 4
I've found a stream of it now (With italian subtitles :P)...it was not bad, but felt far too short. The pace is still kinda slow and few important things happened(Or rather, few BIG things happened. Those scenes were mostly important still) I am wondering though, about that last scene.... [hide] Did this happen like that in the books, with Craster attacking Jon after he saw him with the baby? No, I'm not that kind of guy, but I can't remember this at all and I'm wondering where this is supposed to be heading? [/hide] I am annoyed though that I can't legally get this though(Okay, okay, I can but only late and with german synchro too... ), especially since both streams I've seen so far have been getting more out of synch over time AND I would actually be willing/wanting to pay money for this :P (I'll probably pick up the dvd to make up for the streaming)

Squeal of Fortune + Buyable Spins
There we go! I agree, gambling is detrimental overall. But how is this worse (as far as starting addictions, etc) then say boxing, or dicing? Because this costs people real money (I assume you are talking about Rs boxing or dicing?). All other gambles in Runescape do not if you abide by the rules, and Jagex does what's reasonably within their possibilities to assure that I think.

I am on a short break atm anyway...might be extending it indefinitely.

Squeal of Fortune + Buyable Spins
The issue with this is....their way of "looking at the players as a whole" is probably seeing how many people buy this. They say "Oh look, it's actually quite many, so it can't be that bad". I wouldn't be surprised if they used this as a justification.

Where do morals come into this? That Jagex shouldn't do this, even if it really is legal?

The Game of Thrones TV series - Season 4
Hmmm, I've only been able to find episode 2 on very shady streaming sites (Ones that ask you to disable noscript, adblock, all that stuff completely, not just for the site itself)... Anyone can drop me a hint on where to search? Else I'll just wait another week I guess.

Are you going to CONTINUE renewing membership?
Right now, I don't think I'll resubscribe, not because this is microtransactions, but the way this is set up, with no safeguards against children with access to credit cards, against hackers, plus it exploits gambling addictions which I find disgusting. It might look different in a month though I guess...
-
Squeal of Fortune + Buyable Spins
The first is correct...The second is not, it's just like buying anything else.(They're both valid questions though :P) Or, that's at least the way Jagex interprets it. I'm still convinced you could win the case against Jagex (I think the biggest issue would be proving that virtual items have a value, which some courts already acknowledged), but of course Jagex can get the better lawyers and no one is going to risk losing just to prove Jagex wrong anyway.
-
Squeal of Fortune + Buyable Spins
The additional difference here is that with SoF, you can only win virtual items.
