The thing that currently bothers me the most is the way in which Jagex is able to squirm around gambling laws, or, more specifically, how the laws are so full of flaws that they don't recognize this as gambling. I mean, if we leave the legality out of it, I think everyone would agree that this is indeed gambling by the defintion, right? Thus, the law should recognize it as gambling...but it doesn't because of idiotic loopholes.

Your Runescape Inspiration/Motivation
A friend of mine got me into playing and for a while I pretty much just tried out stuff he recommended to me. A while after that, I kept playing mostly for quests. Now that I have my quest cape, pretty much the only thing keeping me playing is the time I spend in Team Penguin. I do some sort of training skills, but really not much, as I can't stand grinding.

Webcomics Thread
Due to this thread, I thought about checking out more webcomics...had a look at the ones the guy from questionable content likes and now I am reading Girls with slingshots

The Pmers
Another tip: You will most often get these when you're in a public friend's chat (Effigy assisting, penguins, stars, whatever), so if you don't want to have your public set to friends all the time, you can at least set it to friends when you're in such a fc and leave it on all if you're not in one. Or you can try to get a rank in the chat, then you'll get less pms as well :P

Regarding... 2. For some people, their way of having fun is being in a competition with friends...and it's only normal that an achievement feels better if there aren't already a lot of people who have it or that you don't want others to reach that simply by shelling out their rl wealth. 3. The legal case is not quite clear, but if we leave laws out of this it should be pretty obvious that this is gambling, imo. Virtual items still have a real life value, else no one would pay money for them. And the difference to the normal game is that there's skill involved in a not too small amount. 4. That was just an illustration to give an idea how many lamps you get, plus I think most people would use their lamps on a single skill when they can.

Stuff you could NEVER get into
I'm not trying to "convince" him. I can perfectly understand people don't like screaming. I'm not toing to post videos until he finds one he likes either. I just don't like it when someone says that screaming in general has no artistic merit, because that's just not true.

Ethics and Morality
You...don't believe in human rights? Care to elaborate? Do you mean that these rights are not predetermined by nature, or do you actually mean that humans shouldn't have these rights? And yes, obviously they will conflict with each other, that's not unusual. You have to choose which one is more important then. This of course can sometimes be difficult.

Squeal of Fortune + Buyable Spins
Apparently the credit card issue was fixed. Referring to this thread: [qfc]15-16-671-63674649[/qfc] quote of the important part "There are security measures in place to ensure that nobody but you can use your details, and even if youve chosen to store your information on the account for quick access to these when making a new purchase youll still need to enter the cards CVV code when doing so. Even if someone gained access to your account (which is really unlikely for players following our security info!) they still can** use your card to make payments without having your CVV, which would mean actually having your card to hand. " Of course they act as if it has been like that all along and as if players didn't need to point out, and they don't mention that they told us we were secure from credit card fraud before this change....but I guess it's something. Is there someone who can try to confirm this btw? I see no reason why the OP of the thread would make this up, but you never know...

coming back after around a year and a half
For magic, there have been two bigger additions, storm of armadyl (a powerful, high-hitting spell that reduces your enemy's defence. If you have an armadyl battlestaff, it will get 1 tick faster. Available after Ritual of the Mahjarrrat, quite expensive though). There's also the Polypore staff, which is a lot cheaper and still has quite good dps(And it works on any spellbook) There's been armour additions as well, ganodermics has high magic defence and quite a high magic damage soak, very powerful armour if you need to tank magic attacks. The dominion tower has been improved to make the collection of goliath gloves faster and easier. There are now flasks which hold 6 doses of any potion instead of 4, they're usually only worth using for stuff like Jad though, not for extending normal trips(too expensive) That's what I can think of on top of my head.

Stuff you could NEVER get into
I could widen the net a bit and say that if it's necessary to mention screaming in the name of the genre, then it's going to be done frequently enough to kill any of the emotional or artistic merit of the sound. It's like if you repeated the any word over and over, it loses its meaning. Maleficus summed it up, but really? Screaming means there's no emotion or artistic merit? If you want to discard entire genres of music based on one thing, then I assume it's fair to say all music where they sing is bad too? Just because it's not the norm and you don't enjoy it doesn't mean you can call it all bad. This entire song is screamed. If you're going to say there's no artistic merit in this, fine, art is subjective so you could really say whatever you want about that. But this song conveys all sorts of emotion, and does a very good job at it. Firstly, no, it isn't fair to say that music where they sing is bad too. Singing is a much broader term that covers so many ranges and styles, it has the variety and flexibility which screaming lacks to bring out what's good about music. Hell, screaming has its place, if a song wants to be angry and shout at the world, that can and does sometimes work, but not if it's done throughout the entire song. Secondly, sorry, but I thought that song was bad, the vocals had no emotional range or real meaning, and it would be much better with the vocals cut out. It's just my opinion, and you're perfectly free to have your own. In the end, screaming(or growling) is just another way of singing. It's perfectly understandable if people don't like it, but it really has just the same place as "normal" vocals. Depends on the singer of course. Just as there are bad singers, there are bad screamers (Though the percentage probably is higher...)

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
I kinda tend to use rather many smilies (Well, not in sms, but then I don't usually have long conversations over those). It's a quick and easy way to combine what you're saying with an emotion, e.g. so your chat partner knows that the "wow, impressive :o" is not "wow, impressive  "

New rules! Jagex now allows RWTing !!!
This makes it sound like soon Jagex will be selling not only gold and items via SOF, but also accounts. I think they just took the old rules and added "on 3rd party websites" everywhere. Doesn't have to mean anything. Not that I would put it past Jagex though... They changed it a lot more than just adding "on 3rd party websites" everywhere. I was referring to that particular sentence, illustrating that just because it said "buying Runescape account" didn't necessarily have to mean that Jagex thinks about doing it.

Squeal of Fortune + Buyable Spins
The way I see it is Jagex are only saying that they are selling spins.. and if you pay they deliver those spins. It's just a microtransaction, and also the 'you always win' thing just makes it a massive loophole They can "say" what they want. A lottery doesn't suddenly stop being a lottery if they tell you they're just delivering the lots. And this could indeed be considered a form of gambling....thing is, it's a grey area so likely the party with better lawyers is going to win (aka Jagex) and besides that...no one is going to sue them for this.

Squeal of Fortune + Buyable Spins
My bet is that Jagex underestimated the amount of xp players could gain through this. This is believable, cuz Jagex is kinda like, really, really, dumb. How about: Both are too much xp but one gets Jagex money and the other not?

Future Update Discussions
I thought this was old news... Apart from the video, it is, and yeah it's going to be a new, bounty-hunter style minigame(Though with risk afaik) Tbf we do know for certain that sword thing relates to the new bounty hunter that is in the works. It just happens to be they concept art on that slide in the presentation; it's entirely possible it was just a random wildy concept art image since they had no bh specific ones. Well Runefest was in October so I may not remember it 100% correct, but I'm pretty sure Mod Mark specifically referenced this concept art, plus it makes sense 1. It's in the old bh crater 2. You remember that "weapon of the gods" thingy? Well I giant sword fallen from the sky, with a guthix symbol on it kind of has a connection with that ;)

What was your first 99?
My first was thieving. Currently my one and only, though I have only 11k off 99 Magic, but that will probably kept lying there until v200 of the penguin thread.

New rules! Jagex now allows RWTing !!!
Ha! That's where you're wrong. This is only a taste of what is yet to come. Vocal? Influental? The playerbase can scream all it wants, nothing is going to change unless a big enough number quits, and since everyone believes it's not going to change anything anyway and puts his personal enjoyment over the development of the game (Which is not wrong, I'm not judging this), the only possible way for that to happen would be a drastic 180° turn for the whole game.

Adblock prohibited?
They still get money for the ad just refreshing though (At least I think they do, depends on their specific contract of course.) I find that if you're F2P, you should really disable adblock to at least give something back (Unless you're intent on not giving Jagex money, maybe because of SoF? :P)

Right, so casinos could just give me 1 pence everytime I lose and it wouldn't count as gambling? Rejoice, now all those casinos can rip off 13-year olds too! Yeah?... NO.

Squeal of Fortune + Buyable Spins
I doubt #1. Especially because the investors don't even live in the UK (IIRC they're from New York?). If you're running the company you really at least have to be in the same country :/ I imagine it would be difficult to run it from overseas. And I don't think Jagex has taken on investors because they're desperate. I think it's because they do want to grow and it's rare that companies can grow immensely without investments. Jagex knows that RuneScape can't be their only game forever. Games rarely last as long as RuneScape has already. If Jagex wants to continue to exist after RuneScape they need another product. In order to expand into another product, they do need investments. They need to be able to hire new staff and dedicate those new employees and resources to other games, while continuing to be able to fully support RuneScape. So I wouldn't call Jagex desperate because they turned to investors. They turned to investors because they are looking to grow and expand as a company, which is perfectly understandable. If they stick to only RuneScape forever, they're basically a company with an expiration date. Maybe not a specific one, but it's unlikely that RuneScape will exist forever (or at least be profitable forever). I did not call them desperate because they have turned to investors. I've said that them truning to investors may be a side effect of that. And seeing how within a single year, Jagex went 180° on many things, be it F2P advertising or microtransactions, does mean there has to be some reason for that. Maybe "desperate" is too strong a word for it, but there is something there. The problem I have with the whole "Jagex is a company, and companies try to make money, so if it makes them money what they do is justified" argument is that it assumes a "company" is just a lifeless, soulless, goal-driven entity. I'm not going to argue that all companies aren't, but I adamantly disagree that all companies are. I'm not going to argue that all companies are that way either, but you can't deny that in the end that's what Jagex is. Especially now that the game is on a decline. Oh sure. Certainly that's how Jagex is nowadays. I agree 100%. The point I was trying to make is that accepting Jagex's change of heart is unacceptable. As not only customers, but as members of a community fathered by Jagex and ourselves as well, we should not be so willing to justify Jagex's actions just because they are a company. If Jagex is our ruler, we have a right to demand he not be Machiavelli. That's kind of the point I was trying to make. For a long time, Jagex wouldn't do certain things because they thought it would be detrimental to the game and its players, even if it brought them more money. That has changed from 2011 on. Doesn't mean that everything they're doing is suddenly bad now...but some things are.

Incredible lag on Runescape since a few days?
Did you experiment with different worlds? The only time when I've been experiencing connection lag, it was due to Runescape's servers, and your connection looks fine....
