  1. You've got an advantage by having 100M, though since you're inexperienced chances are you'll get cleaned since you don't know how to use it. Stay away from the arena. No. Defense level doesn't matter at all in mage boxing.
  2. Surely they can telegrab and yak away Indeed... but who brings telegrabs to corp :P
  3. If this were a few years ago I'd totally agree with you, but at this point I just consider it natural selection and don't really take people's moral/ethical stances on RS too seriously. After I got scammed for the first (and only) time in my RS career for a set of full mithril, I haven't really trusted any offers that are too good to be true, or anyone inside the wild/duel arena, and it's worked out pretty well for me haha  Sucks for people to learn the hard way, but hopefully they learn from their mistakes. There's a few RL lessons to be learned from that as well, but that's another story...
  4. Not helpful since u only get in the dungeon twice during the quest and after that its locked til quest is completed. Well after you've completed the quest it's the same as it was before the update, except for the fact that now the whole area's instanced so you can't be attacked by PK'ers.
  5. was walking through the wild and saw two noobs trying to lure a 3-itemer. they gave him a chinchompa while they were in multi and tried to get him to autoretaliate/attack them to get skulled lol. "turn on auto retaliate or attack him w/ the furry thing!" I told the victim to just teleport cuz he was getting scammed... so he did lol. the two lurers freaked out cursed at me... it was pretty funny.
  6. Getting there... is that another story? You talk to one of the NPCs on the top floor of varrock castle... it's explained in the news
  7. I have infact, staked quite a lot. However you're right about not staking with magic. I never really had the levels to do it and i'll be the first to admit that. Hence why i'm now trying to gather information on variables i can control. If i can control said variables, i can improve my chances. Clearly an old school mage staker will out do me; but one has to start somewhere, no? I could just go back to melee boxing if i really wanted too, but i want to explore, well, another avenue i guess. You're going down the wrong path though. You're trying to control the wrong variables. So with mage staking, why should i be looking at exactly? Stats/equipment/spell choices are basically potluck. It's about choosing your opponents carefully and figuring out how much to stake them at what times.
  8. AZs appear to be instanced now... or at least when you go upstairs to the altar, you're not vulnerable to PK'ers (no wilderness lvl displayed)

  10. Nobody mage stakes with prayer on. (and curses are better) It's frustrating reading these staking posts from people who have never staked in their lives. They're fretting about things which are inconsequential :\
  11. First thing I did... went staking :) First stake of the new era: Didn't even take any damage lol. In other news, classes here are cancelled cuz of a snow day. gonna be a good day :D
  12. unicorns only have 1000lp, so anyone depending on their pony for survival is dunzo lol I'll probably stick to using a wolper since I'd rather have the extra +21% magic damage than 30 extra pieces of food which I don't need. if my opponent uses a yak, it'll be nice if they just fill it with brews, since the more brews they drink, the more their magic def plummets :D
  13. I know you're allowed to bank certain quest lamps. I wouldn't be surprised if you could bank the task lamps too
  14. The reason you saw that is because the only thing ever needed for mage staking was 99 hp/magic/possibly some defence lol. A 1-1-99 with 99 hp and magic is the same exact thing as a maxed main when it comes to mage staking. Not true at all. I was 108 cmb with 99 hp, mage, and defense. I staked a lot of level 80s who thought the same thing that defense didn't matter. I won like 99% of those. And I was a relatively "bad" staker. I sucked at the obstacle trick so I always staked just regular boxing with wands and movement. I had plenty of people to stake though these were usually for 1-10m, the phat stakes were no movement. Even with out the obstacles having movement on add a lot of strategy to the game, there was very little "gambling" involved. If you screwed up you knew it and you usually lost because of it. Defense doesn't matter... I was a maxed mage as well and fought several 1 def pures whom I splashed against quite frequently. http://www.runescape.com/kbase/guid/magic_faq - The Knowledge base can still be inaccurate but I think it's mainly your Magic level that dictates the defence and not the defence skill, but that's just my assumption  Staking options should be like a trade window though where you both select options, if your options clash it needs to match exactly before you start (you can see what opponents options and it'd be a side by side window of the equiptment and rules) then certain stakers dont turn on plates, or other things to try and cheat their way in ;) Yeah I've read that before but I still disagree with it from my experience. The fact that from the thousands of 1-def pures I fought, I splashed just as much as they did while I was 99 defense, makes me believe that defense doesn't matter at all.
  15. Both of the above posts are 100% WRONG. I've been out of the loop since staking ended however during the end of its course I was staking anywhere from 50k-5million at a time. I would be happy to provide some evidence of this. You don't need to "clean" someone out to make a bit of cash. The average age of a typical RS player I would imagine is pretty young as a such you play to emotions. Beat someone and say "I got lucky", "wow, my first time winning!" or "you suck", whatever your taunt of choice is and many times people will go round 2, 3, 4 to stake again. Having said that, my personal opinion leans towards multi-pures with 1 def, 1 pray. Back in the day, I would encounter pures, def hoarders, and mixes. So building a staker with specific goals in mind is just fine. Never wear your best armor while walking around and your stats won't be as impressive. From this post I'm inferring that you never made 100M+ from a days worth of staking

  17. The only people who will ever stake you are people who have the same "build" as you and use the exact same tactics as you. Stats and equipment don't matter. Your cashpile does. What's the point of trying to trick someone into staking you when you're only going to win one duel against them? No one is going to offer their entire bank on the first duel. The best stakers fought people who had similar stats and identical tactics as them. You only get rich from staking by cleaning people, and in order to clean people, you have to keep them coming back to you for more. Why would anyone in their right mind keep staking someone who they have no chance of beating? tl;dr: Don't waste your time trying to create an account designed solely for staking or trying to think of special fool-proof tactics.
  18. first staking vid I ever made, long long ago... back in 2006. good times. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EV5V3QbvV1Y
  19. People are going to look you up regardless of what you're wearing
  20. Exactly.. of course there will be those noob pures staking 25-200k at a time, but the only high level staking will be boxers. Staking is actually quite defense based. Not really
  21. Don't get 99 defense if you're gonna be a range tank... you will regret it. Don't go any higher than 94 defense. After 94 you don't get an extra +1 from super def pots. You won't see any change in defense between 90 and 99 really either, other than higher combat levels which means your opponents will be stronger. Take it from me, I was a maxed tank back in the old wild. People with 99 attack would rip through my 99 defense.
  22. It'd be fine with me if they were tradeable or super defense pots boosted your damage soaking... but they don't so I'm glad they were disallowed. Though extremes really aren't that great for PvP... I did fine in the duel tournaments with my welfare 2006 d sq, super def pot, and standard magic pot against people with divines and overloads. (and I can use extremes... as if my opinion was invalid otherwise  )
  23. Staking isn't about stats, equipment, or tactics-- it's about knowing how much to stake against whom at what time. ...in the case of melee boxing... Stake high against people with lower stats and low against people with higher stats? O_o More to it than that... people don't always stake "fairly"
