My only critique of the new formula would be the *1.3 is entirely redundant and complicates things for no reason and is just a product of pandering to nostalgia. I'd of been happy with 123 max level to do away with the multiplier that does nothing (Heck I wouldn't object to 495 to do away with the pointless /4 end)

What Regular People Think of RuneScape (RS3 vs OSRS)
Not everyone has played RuneScape. Yeah its a pretty naive statement to try and even imply everyone of a certain age has played Runescape. Between High school, college and university I have met in total 1 person who has played runescape (aside from my brother and a few friends who dipped in for like a week but didn't stay based on me playing it) I mean it was only like a year or 2 back they were celebrating 200 million accounts being created - when you take into account bots and normal players with multiple accounts your looking at maybe 100m actual people who have ever made an account(s) (and that is probably being quite generous given how prolific bots were and how many accounts a single user could've had) that's 1/10th of a billion aka less than 1/70th of the world population. Heck 100m is only 1/3 or the entire US population, let alone the rest of the world. Heck statistically speaking if you took one of my larger uni lectures (~500 students) you'd only expect 7 people in the entire room to have made an account. Not even considering actually playing the game for any sustained time, just making an account.

runescape bonuses
Because bandos is melee class armour and melee class armour worn in the body legs or shield slot will give severe negative accuracy penalties to ranged and magic attacks. Not to mention, as melee armour, its defences are scaled to match - it has great ranged defence, ok melee defence and poor mage defence; and with the triangle being more enforced a monster weak to melee is gonna be using ranged attacks 9/10. So of course you could wear bandos and go maging, for example, but you will suffer from nerfed accuracy and, since a mage weak mob is likely to be meleeing, lower than optimum defence to melee attacks.

Screen reolution problem
Yeah things being smaller is a simple and direct consequence of having a higher screen resolution - its why older typists/secretaries etc tend to have horrendously low screen resolutions so they can see stuff. It just makes sense if the font (for example) is built using 2 pixel wide strokes its going to look bigger on a screen displaying only 800x600 pixels compared to a screen showing 1920 x 1080 pixels because on the smaller resolution 1 pixel is a larger portion of the screen (eg 800x600 only has 480,000 pixels displayed where as 1080 has 2,073,600 pixels)

It'd kinda make sense to decorate ur room to make it nicer if you have the magic to do so given how long Nex has been stuck there. I mean the united front driving Zarosians out was like late 2nd age early 3rd age and the 3rd age alone was ~4,000 years and the 4th age was ~2,000 that's a solid 6,169 years of being trapped there. Even if you assume she was frozen like the rest of GWD for the the 4th age and most of 5th age thats still a solid 4000+ years imprisoned there. Plus its not like decorating prison cells is unheard of: if you watch some documentaries about long-term prisoners (especially life sentences) they always seem to have 'decorated' their cells somewhat with posters and knickknacks acquired overtime.

^Yeah hopefully it'll be like right click a bank item and 'lock' it then if emptied it has a like greyed out shadow of the item (kind like theres a 0 stack of the item there) so when you deposit items will go there.

Unless of course its a magically prison sealed by the power of 4 powerful generals of 4 different gods united by a common goal which are likely to have thought of the idea of simply digging out and dealt with it in the magic.

Nex was also a general of Zaros a ruler and society that had a lot of mahjratt influence. The Mahjaratt are from Frenskae - it's perfectly possibly she personally modelled it after other fortresses etc from the empire, which in turn where modelled with mahjratt architecture-styles taken from frenskae. No-one missed it we just entirely disagree with the idea of making quests req-less wholesale regardless of what is needed for the rewards. So it was not worth specifically commenting on seeing as it's existence requires the 'reqless' part we disagree with.

Who is to say the Nex prison is not modelled on something originally found on freneskae? And I wouldn't say that is the next chamber, yes it has the crossed walk ways and zaros logo in the middle but it seems more rectangular than the rounded shape of ancient prison; plus the obvious massive jutting black rock (much like frenskae teasers) and not the ice walls.

What to spend loyalty points on
Jack of Trades get xp in 10/15/20 skills within a few hours (can be done in a matter of like a minute) and you get a nice hefty xp book from xuan. Other than maybe look at penance and vampyrism

GM is the most confusing of the classifications for sure. Its a weird mix of quests that don't really mean a lot but have high reqs, quests that mean a lot but dont have reqs, quests that mean a lot and have reqs and a few random curveballs that are just trainwrecks, such as everyones' favourite BOTD. I mean whats not to love about a finale to a much liked series that fails to actually conclude any single story strand that has been developed, starts a bunch of other story strands it doesn't even let you conclude in the post-quest, has a bunch of arbitary tasks that ultimately reveal nothing and have no impact on the quest and climaxes the whole thing with 'yeah I just gave up on my evil plan like 6 months ago'

What Regular People Think of RuneScape (RS3 vs OSRS)
I would not say Runescape was ever 'behind' as such. Did it have comparatively bad graphics compared to other games like WoW at the time? Of course. But always was an apples and oranges kinda scenario - a disc install type game was bound to have better graphics than a 100% web app and compared to other pure web app games Runescape was kinda leading the pack and still is to a certain extent (if you ignore the subjective style issues and focus purely on the graphical capabilities they are bringing in to play). Its kinda one of the tropes of the anti-rsers from back in the day to say it was backwards or behind because graphically it was subpar to WoW in particular but they were and remain entirely different game delivery formats so it s kinda unfair to compare them on graphics in particular as there is just such a technological difference between what a meaty download game that is a fully fledged program and a web app can do. About as close to being behind we got was when the graphics were feeling a little tired and dated shortly before RSHD launched in 2008 and perhaps, to an extent, the very samey look of a lot of items/armours prior to their eoc revamps. I mean I don't think you can really call it intentionally retro when the rs2 initial launch in 2004 had as its peers within gaming things like Halflife 2 and Doom 3 - that style and level of graphics just was not retro at the time. I mean this was a time when we barely had the Xbox, the Wii was a pipe dream with gamecube still an active console and the Gameboy Advanced was still a legit and current console with DS only just arriving. By 2007 it's not like we were lightyears further ahead either for online gaming, though the console field had pushed forward somewhat (360 was around and wii as well as the psp and ps3 but there were still games coming out for the gameboy advanced, gamecube, ps2 and original xbox), I mean its really only the last 3 or 4 years that web apps have really started coming on leaps and bounds with the advent of the smart phone era, more solid broadband coverage (and start of fibre optics) and the 'next gen' wave of coding arriving with html 5 and such. 'Retro' as a thing that is cool and people at large are into is a rather recent trend kinda stemming a bit from the hipster-thing of the past couple of years and also a backlash kinda affair to smartphones and getting too techy and too modern, but subsequently getting more mainstream in fashion, music and all the other big industries (heck even car companies and ad campaigns are trying to cash in on 'retro' now). I mean obviously it didn't happen overnight indie games have been playing with retro styles much longer and the whole '90s kid'/'80s kid' stuff circulating round facebook for years is kinda the forerunner that seeded the nostalgia to open the gates to retro.

Take damage stat of item(s) divide by the speed (eg average is 3.6 seconds iirc, fast is 3 fastest is 2.4 I think etc rswiki can tell you this easily enough). This is the DPS of the item(s)

In some ways I wish we could get back to a state where one of the main reasons to play runescape was to quest. I mean once upon a time quests kind were a big part of the end-game and whilst its not bad other options existed now I feel the game lost something when they let the number of quests and the levels needed to do them get drowned out by the rate you can complete the quests and get the levels. Sure you always had some folks who were ahead of the game and were waiting for new quests, but the vast majority were just a step or 2 behind at best and were aiming for that next quest; where as now its less aiming for the next quest as it is sitting twiddling thumbs waiting jagex to actually release a next quests just to sate the questing urge for maybe an hour or 2 at best before waiting another month+ for the next installment. I mean heck I know in the last year or so I've kinda jumped the shark and hit a lot of skills to max finally but I haven't had to actually train a stat to do a quest in like 5 or 6 years or more. The last one I had to train for that I definitely recall was agility for Regicide, I vaguely recall needing to train for mep1 but I'm not 100% sure there, but that's it. I've been awful at getting new skills up to the same status as my older skills (aside from div) and even though Nomad stumped for all of like a day cause my ranged was a bit too low to do well I've not trained for a formal quest requirement in all these years. To the point that the idea of trianing for a quest does not even cross my mind, when they announced a new GM quest I don't even think oh my div is a bit low I might need to train and I just assume (correctly) that i'll have the stats. And that, in a nutshell, just makes me a little sad that because jagex have dragged their heals of upping quest reqs and on getting quests out that quests have slipped from something to be aspired to to something that even most noobs can catch up on and be twiddling their thumbs for the next one to arrive.

I don't think getting rid of skill reqs on quests would be a good idea. But I am in favour of killing arbitrary un-used reqs. In most older quests (eg legends) every skill required had a very specific task or tasks it was used for and served a purpose, but particular with 'needed to start' reqs that you don't have to re-boost at any point later in the quest it does feel a bit like why are they here other than to make it 'harder.' I mean BOTD is a perfect example we don't actually mine or smith anything in the quest and we don't do anything that seems to require much in the way of strength either for that matter. Meanwhile there is a bunch of stuff we do do that coulda had obvious skill reqs that are just ignored: Planting the bombs on the cannons could've needed thievery or crafting skills. Crossing the fallen pillars could've needed agility. Repairing the memories could've used magic, runecrafting or constitution.

What Regular People Think of RuneScape (RS3 vs OSRS)
I get the feeling that the retro aesthetic is making a comeback thanks to indie games. There's a pretty big market for that kind of thing (not just because of nostalgia) and you can't discount it just because it's not as flashy as newer games. It's simple, expressive I might not like OSRS, but I still think they could learn a thing or two from it... Not the more-blatant-than-RS3 pandering elements (you're playing a game made specifically to cater to RS07 players who are upset about EoC, they're probably going to agree on stuff), of course, but the simplicity/clarity of it. RS3 is less a consistent game and more a collection of needlessly complicated features from different eras that only barely fit together. Or, as has been said before, compare it to other free MMOs (rather than itself) and see how it stands up. I tried a couple a few years ago and (at least from a couple of hours of gameplay) their combat systems managed to be about as involved as EoC without all of its arbitrary complexity - each action felt like it meant something. On the other hand, Scape has noncombat skills and options, and story-driven quests rather than gameplay-driven quests... Nowadays they've neglected the former and bad writing plagues the latter. Retro has been in for a while, but its already getting quite tired and old hat as people look forward with the innovations of the new wave of consoles. Equally yes indie games playing up the retro can work wonderfully, but I don't think a game like Runescape in the mainstream market can compete by trying to play up the retro and equally it was simply making the point that in this 'study' the test subjects weren't all that sound - they all seemed to like the nostalgia that the retro-look brought to them reminding them of what games were like when they were younger not because it added anything to the game or made it more appeal especially considering as the video admits the target audience is much younger and that 'retro' feel is gonna be totally lost on them because they come from a generation where things look so much better. Retro is certainly a hot button trend right now but it'll be dead soon enough and when the target market is an age that retro look is lost on and in a market that doesn't really play with the whole retro scheme it just seems like it'd be a bad idea to chase simply because people older than the target market get tingly nostalgia feels over low-res bad graphics that are a retro relic from their childhood.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't this a big part of why ice barrage was so game-breaking back in the day? There wasn't a whole lot you could do to counter that. What Muggi said and also they would have someone tank while holding their own flag. Flag holding is probably the worst mechanic in Castle Wars. It's also ironic as its kinda easy to fix, certainly let people pick it up on the field to 'save' it but it should be a case of on the field your team can only hold your own flag for say 40 seconds - 1min at which point it would default back to the spawn and place a similar mechanic from flags just stood on the ground. Plus make sure the counts are taken continuously and only reset when it returns to spawn, so people can't drop/pick up just in time to make it stay out. Boom theres still a chance to kill the 'saver' and grab the flag back to go score but its impossible for them to keep their flag and tank for the duration.

What I'm curious on is he mentions they fixed the 5th age quest markers, has anyone checked this out and seen if they have done it now? I remember there being a massive list of quests that ought tot have markers that did not. I'm torn on this req thing too I can see their point that if Zaros is gonna be a big part in all 3 major pillars of the 6th age story arc he needs to be opened up through a low req point in the 6th age, but at the same time it does feel like a bit of a rip off. I mean we have been here for YEARS we have toiled through minor hidden references and cryptic hints to piece together an idea that Zaros even existed and who he could've been. We've slaved at reqs to climb this journey and find the mahjratt and get it the point at which Zaros can finally return and now all that work is kinda being invalidated with a sweeping 5th age vs 6th age req thing so any old noob can stroll right in to frenskae and meet Zaros himself. I certainly would like to see some form of quest replay even if the 'replay' was boiled down to more a choreographed cutscene with less actual action taken to smooth over issues that could arise with trying to reset some quests. Just so people had the chance to get it in order, especially if we had more recap npcs so each series had one covering it and they could give you a whole joined up 'movie' from start to finish of the events in order.

What Regular People Think of RuneScape (RS3 vs OSRS)
I think some question could be raised around the test subjects themselves. I mean a non-gamer is likely to prefer the simpler OSRS because it is simpler and they do not understand more complex gaming systems. Whilst an experienced gamer is likely to prefer the more complex game because they can actually understand it easier. Not to mention the very small sample size, 6 people doesn't really give a real idea of any actual trends or overall studies - Especially when you consider they are HIS friends you expect them to have similar personality to him and thus would likely have similar opinions on a lot of issues which creates an obvious bias. The fact they are older players trying something aimed at a younger audience the 'retro' thing that reminds them of their childhood obviously has a bias (I mean ask any 20 something and they will gladly spout out about the awesomeness of rewatching kids shows from their youth despite the fact they look absolutely rubbish compared to modern things - its a natural age bias. Heck one guy even went on and on about liking it because it is retro.) etc. Some of the smaller nuances it brings up is certainly worthy of note though (even if we rather knew a lot of these already) - things like the new interfaces having no obvious X-button for logging out. The fact that the darker more mysterious style is preferential to the bright-friendly style they plastered in to many newer things. Tutorial isn't working quite right. etc. I find the 'approve-disapprove' scale a bit misleading on some answers though: Graphics mostly people said they looked cartoonish and were alright yet they all got lumped in 'disapprove' despite the fact largely they didn't say anything overly negative. Combat system again they mostly got 'disapprove' but that oversimplifies it because most didn't say it was like totally bad they just said it was a bit slow - which to me is more of a middle ground. And some of them don't really show much at all like 'would you keep playing?' - That's kinda entirely subjective since for the most part these are not people in the target market and openly not mmorpg-type gamers. They aren't really the type you'd expect to engage and play longterm. I'd definitely agree with the sort of 'start with old combat' type curve - I'd said a fair while ago that really you should start with click and wait and then sort of lvl 20 or so start to bring in abilities and build it up like that.

Dungeoneering Questions!
1) Melee is really a toss up between zerker and tactician now depending on if you decide to go 2h or dw. Not much difference in DPS according to some dg metagamers and the rings are essentially the same (increased accuracy) difference jsut being zerker = 2h tactician = 1h Ranged the best choice is general considered Desperado for the damage boost though was task cleared for dual ring having sniper as well makes for best possible in dungeon dps (coupled with quick-switch to melee ring for high lvl meleers tht are hard to range) Mage you'd want blitzer again for accuracy. Only other ring of note is Gatherer which can be handy for secondary ring after tasks to increase survivability if you don't wish to do the desperado/sniper combo. In terms of actual usage mage is the worst in dg as spells are not allowed to scale beyond t90 equipment based on overworld limitations where as ranged and melee are free to properly scale right up to t99. 2) Kinda covered that above it doesn't make a huge difference starting from a clean slate at this point, but many would probably go 2h simply as it is easier to get 1 bind item than 2. In theory DW would give a bit more dps but as ranged > melee in dungeons and within ranging sagi short is pretty much equal if not better than primal knives its more of a secondary concern. 3) Yes you can when in customise you can right-click to pick you secondary always on ring and your quick switch ring. The prefered setups are: Desperado Primary Sniper Secondary Zerker/Tactician quick switch For pure DPS power Desperado primary Gatherer secondary Zerker/tactician quick switch For a more balanced 'survivial aid' kinda setup. 4) Sagi Short is the best bow. Sagi arrows are dropped alongside the t11 bows both long and short so Skele Trio and Saggitaire 5) For xp no they are god awful. They are however quite useful for chasing down slayer drops and the higher boss drops (they drop t11 like 50% of the time, t10 like 48% of the time and the lower ones like 2% of the time). Completing all 60 hardmodes awards 'of daemonheim' title, which is one of the most exclusive in-game titles and looks quite nice and obtaining it is a requirement of comp cape trimmed.

03-March-2014 - Tweaks Week + patch notes
^I don't recall them saying they'd outright remove it but they certainly wanted to minimise its roll, and they have done semi-recently with the jacked up recovery rates and jacked down weight drain. I think the main condition they had for further alterations was the agility rework so that they could give agility some other point (aside from a handful shortcuts) and of course at that point the logical step would be to outright remove it.

Use a normal action bar slot instead of quick inventory slot, should work just fine for spam dropping - even more so since a recent patchnote made holding the key spam drop more than 1.

Behind the Scenes - March 2014
No we didn't. One of a Kind was set for the week of 24th of Feb they then announced it was delayed by TWO weeks. People madly speculating it would be out this week were plain deluded, there was no evidence posted by any jmods to suggest it would be out this week. The announcement of it being delayed by two weeks took it from the week of 24th feb to the week of 10th of march. This week is only 1 week later. Not to mention at the end of last fridays bts video they clearly said One of a Kind bts was next weeks video (aka due out on the 7th placing the update in week of 10th). The whole One of a Kind being out this week thing was an utter myth entirely contradicted by every solid source of data we have. Except, Mod Pips announced the delay on the 18th of February (Tuesday). That is, a week before the initially expected date (sometime during the week of 24th). Odd that they announced a delay when they had a whole week left (must have been a large setback). He said two weeks, but was purposefully vague as to whether it would be two weeks from his post or two weeks from the initial date. And the BTS video was also vague, it didn't explicitly say "we will be back week to talk about OOK", it explicitly said "next week we start off our quest filled month with out latest quest". Note! It didn't say next week we will be talking about it, or that it will be the topic of the BTS, it said, "next week, we kick off our quest filled month with our latest grandmaster quest coming to Gelinor, One of a Kind". So, no, it wasn't clear at all. They were purposefully vague. You're grasping at straws, and the case you make for Jagex is rather weak. There was no mythology or delusion on the part of the players, just expectations that Jagex failed to meet yet again. Expect the title on the post he made was specifically for NEXT weeks game update (week of 24th feb) [qfc]16-17-629-65301752[/qfc] It was explicitly clear it was an advance warning that the update due the week of the 24th, aka one of a kind, was postponed by two weeks. The update was due on the 24th. It was postponed by 2 weeks. If you are expecting a delivery on the 7th and they ring you up on the 31st to say its been delayed by two weeks you don't think it'll turn up on the 14th; you think it'll turn up two weeks later than expected aka the 21st. Mod Pips was posting in advanced about a two week delay to an update previous meant for the week of the 24th it is pretty explicitly clear that means it'll launch two weeks later than expected (week of 24th) not 2 weeks from the date of the post. It wasn't vague in the slightest it literally said it was information about the update intended for the week of the 24th and that said update had been delayed by two weeks. If it's meant for the week of the 24th and delayed by 2 weeks the clear and concise meaning is it will come out two weeks after that original launch window, to come out this week it would only be a 1 week delay as it has only been 1 week since the intended launch window. And as for the BTS bit at the end of every video they mention what next weeks video will be about - the one on the 28th mentioned ooak. And every BTS (other than rare exceptions) goes live the friday before the update.
