Funny I should see this thread now. I did a 30 hour fishing session last week to get a daily record on runetrack (6 hours before the 'day' starts so I could get a head start.) That was a one off thing and significantly longer than any other time I've nolifed RS though, normally I'd consider 15+ hours to be pretty extreme.

I want a completionist's cape, and I want to finish my rare set. Perhaps I'll be able to get some sort of 'closure' on RS once I've achieved those, but I doubt it. It's simply an enjoyable way to spend your time.

Agreed with Swedishboy. Chin bots are a priority. My 2M red chins have nothing to do with it, honest. -

Eh... I think kiln is a bit of a waste, as once you're at Har-Akken you're golden. I'll probably use them at Nex once its less packed and I'm not in danger of suffering from the gravestone glitch. -
If people are allowed to mention sell dung, and since this partnership involves SwiftIrc, I'd like to mention the #keyers IRC channel as an alternative to Sell Dung. You pay a bit extra, but they have vastly superior keyers. (Most of the dg records are held by members of that channel) If you're looking for faster xp/hr over cheap floors, they're definitely the way to go. I've used them for leeching many times in the past. It seems a tad unfair if posters are allowed to advertise sell dung in this thread, but can't mention alternatives.

Some boxes. Those last 3 were all versus my blue phat. Luckiest. Hat. Ever. Xlogging is quite bad right now Ambler, I got xlogged on yesterday for 400m by "Whats Living". Also, why can't I directly upload .png files from puu.sh? I had to convert them to .jpgs, and it lost a lot of the quality. -
Legitimate Reasons to Raise All Skill Caps to 120+
Fallstar replied to NukeMarine's topic in General Discussion
You wouldn't have xp rates increase as sharply as you suggest jayc. Whilst they should increase on an exponential like xp gap per level, it should still require more time to get from level 104 to 105 than from 103 to 104. A simple modification of the exponent would be fine for that. If xp gap was ^x, make xp rate to the half x or something. But yes, I do agree that xp rates should increase post 99. -
It doesn't really matter does it. Neither will people obtain such a state from their job, or their studies, or any other 'activity' in life.

The summer pie task was nice. The actual task was decent xp/hr, and I got 86k bonus xp for turning the task in.

Legitimate Reasons to Raise All Skill Caps to 120+
Fallstar replied to NukeMarine's topic in General Discussion
I don't really see how this would alienate players. The 99 skillcapes are still there. All the current content is still there. If people aren't phased by the idea of spending a minimum of 175-200 days gametime to max, I don't see how 120s would concern them either. Whether the caps are 99 or 120, the idea of getting every skill that high probably doesn't even enter a new players head. -
Not advertising, just trying to discuss something, and this happens?
Fallstar replied to D. V. Devnull's topic in Rants
I spent about a month being muted by various corrupt pmods, and it took about a dozen emails to get Jagex to do something about it. I understand how frustrating it is. -
The unicorn is unnecessary, just wear magic defence gear like gano/royal and prot range with ss flick. They also drop sharks every now and then.

Legitimate Reasons to Raise All Skill Caps to 120+
Fallstar replied to NukeMarine's topic in General Discussion
Even if it was fun, 120 still represents an extraordinary amount of grinding. I think Dungeoneering is actually a really fun skill, but it's still a really difficult stat to achieve, even with the super-fast XP gains at the end. You still don't see that many people walking around with True Dungeoneering Skillcapes and it's not even included with the Max Cape. Overall, it's just a bad direction in which to take the game. Which direction would you prefer them to go in, once the remaining skills with sparse content at higher levels have been filled out? Gaining xp is ridiculously easy now in comparison to a few years back. Take fishing for instance. Barbarian fishing was 70k/hr ish, now paying people to clear dungeons for you whilst you C2 fish takes that to 160-170k xp/hr. Even if you can't afford to pay people to clear for you, you can get 110-120k xp/hr solo. There are several thousand players with 120 dungeoneering. If it had to be trained as Jagex originally envisioned it, yes it would have taken a while. But dg is over 300k xp/hr. Which means 120 dungeoneering now barely takes more time than 99 rc when nats/abyss were the best xp/hr. If they increase xp/hr as you increase in level from 99-120, it shouldn't be too difficult to level. 99s simply aren't worth much anymore. Even the max and completionist capes aren't a particularly rare sight anymore. There needs to be more distinguishing features at higher levels in my opinion. -
Legitimate Reasons to Raise All Skill Caps to 120+
Fallstar replied to NukeMarine's topic in General Discussion
I agree that eventually Jagex need to raise skill caps to 120. The number of maxed and near maxed players is getting very high now, meaning the only way to gain hiscore ranks is to repeat the same content you played for 99 over and over again. First of all they need to make sure all skills have a decent amount of content between 1 and 99 though. Mining needs ores above runite for example, perhaps a concentrated mithril rock or something like that. There are several other skills that suffer from the same problems, firemaking and woodcutting for example. I also think that every skill should have something worthwhile at 99, similar to summoning with the steel titan. Once there is sufficient content between levels 1 and 99, they should start working on 120s. -

I 'only' have about 3.6k hours in RS, which is the only MMO I play, but have probably amassed far over 10k hours in total on various RPGs and console gaming (I'm 19). People often look down on top players, but when you consider the time you spend playing other games, perhaps they are simply more focused.

You're not the only person this has happened to Soniku, I've seen a few people saying they've had Chinese friends banned yesterday. Perhaps the bot update isn't all it's cracked up to be and Jagex resorted to "Ban China" as an alternative. Joking aside, this is a pretty serious problem. If the early stages of the nuke are catching innocent players in the net, what will happen when the main update is rolled out?

They can't tell you the specifics, but apparently its around $2 per 1k views with a Machinima partnership. He uploads 2-3 vids a day averaging around 15k views a vid. Thats $60-$90 a day. Its near enough $30k/year. Whilst it's certainly no substitute for a full time job, bear in mind he's still at school, and as he continues to gain subscribers the amount he's earning will increase.

Unlike most RS players, he actually derives a significant income through playing RS (He's approaching 50k subs now). So you never know.

Western laws probably did apply initially. I'm guessing that most early RWT in Runescape was just player to player, and that bots were initially for private use, and that only later were they used for gp collection and sale on a massive scale. I might have used redundant incorrectly, I was never very fond of English at school :P I'm not saying that tax and copyright laws don't apply in China, I'm saying that Western ones don't. It makes no sense to talk about the penalties for tax evasion in the USA or wherever when there is no motive to evade tax in China, so even if there are similar penalties (tax evasion used to be punishable by death in China) they will very rarely be applied. A study carried out in 2011 found that over 25% of tax evasion in China was carried out by members of the governing party. I don't think it is as big a deal over there as it is here; as a previous poster mentioned, income tax makes up a very small amount of the Chinese government's tax income. As for copyright law, I imagine that unless Jagex has Chinese companies as investors, it'd be very hard for Jagex to get any kind of action taken against gold selling sites in China on copyright grounds. China's relations with the West are hardly conducive to legal cooperation.

What makes it redundant? I'm asking because I'm trying to understand, not contradict. It does not apply to the vast majority of cases, so in this situation it is redundant. The definition of redundant I'm using: No longer needed or useful; superfluous. Since most RWT sites are not based in the West, Western tax law is no longer applicable, needed or useful.

Most of which is completely irrelevant to over 90% of gold selling sites, which are not based in the US, Canada, Europe etc. but are based in China and other eastern countries, where income tax is so low that not declaring your income would be true idiocy. If income tax is insignificant, there is no motive for people to evade tax. Equally, you claim that selling the intangible, virtual goods gathered on an online game is illegal. Illegal where? In the USA? England? Are you familiar with such laws in the countries where these sites are based or not? Western tax law and whatever you call the law about making money off another company's IP is redundant in this situation.

Jagex: Thinking of Gambling Alternatives?
Fallstar replied to RU_Insane's topic in General Discussion
A Jagex endorsed gambling system would be a good idea in my opinion. It would be a simple 50/50 game where you bet X cash for a chance to win 1.9X cash, or something similar. So 1. People who want to gamble regardless of the odds being against them can do so in a 100% safe environment. (No chance of getting scammed) 2. It isn't worth it to gamble. Your expected return on your bet is on average lower than the amount you bet. 3. Acts as a cash sink and an inflation countermeasure. Whilst player-player gambling merely moves money from low density gp areas to high density gp areas (and is eventually spread back into the low density gp areas), the gp Jagex makes can be removed from the game. Due to the popularity of gambling, this would almost certainly be a far more effective counter-measure than the various schemes currently around. (Such as degradable equipment.) -
I remember reading that casino blackjack is only actually like a 2% house advantage or something if you play a perfect game. Gambling games in RS seem excessively unbalanced in comparison. As for doublers, I was unaware such a system had a proper name, but players who did so were one of the most profitable types of gambler. Most hosts had a minimum bet of between 2m and 10m to prevent a large enough number of bets that the better almost certainly wins in the end. When you start from 5 or 10m, the total amount lost adds up very quickly and very few betters have enough gp to sustain a significant doubling streak at such starting amounts. 10-20-40-80-160-320-640-1280. A relatively small 8 win streak for the host and you're down over 2.5B. Not to mention the fact that the host could quite easily say nope once they're happy with the amount they've won and don't want to risk anymore for the day.
