  1. Okay, that's just stupid lmfao. He did not use any money to increase his Fishing, Agility, or Mining gains except for bait for Fishing and pouches for Fish/Mine, which is all negligible and made up from banking anyways. He did not do BA. Something I don't think you guys are understanding is that for the past few years, Suomi has had the 2nd most hours/year put into RS out of every player in the game. If you've stalked Runetracker enough, this should be obvious. On top of that, though, he is also one of the biggest players in refusing to waste time/Xp on RS, meaning no standing around or partying or even ranking up people in your friends chat. He's always been super picky about all that. He has by far surpassed every player in RS and imo is the first person to hold rank 1 that I truly believed deserves it. I've long criticized many of the buyable noobs who held #1 that simply got cheap Xp without having put in as much work as some lower ranks (like Suomi at the time). I know he didn't use money for those skills, but it was inefficient for him not to do so. Efficiently training those skills turns them into buyables, which was the point of my post. (That you cannot simply disregard the buyable aspect.)
  2. The problem is that most skills involve some buyable aspect these days. You've got the obvious: Herblore, Prayer, Crafting, Cooking, Fletching, Construction, Summoning, Farming that are typically viewed as 'buyables'. Then you've also got the cost of Slayer, in cannonballs, scrolls, chaotic repairs, prayer pots. That comes to well over 1b over the course of 200m. (Assuming you make ovls for herb and that cost is counted in herb not slay) Suomi's C2 method of woodcutting also involved him paying 5m/hr was it? That makes WC what, 20 gp/xp? Even if people were willing to do it out of the goodness of their heart, your average player couldn't have people clearing dgs and finding skill plots. If people did it for free, a lot of it comes down to Suomi being #1, which is a result of the donations. I'm not sure what the cost of superheat mining is, but over the course of 200m xp you're going to be spending around 500m on nats. Then there's fishing and agility, Suomi did barb fishing and agility at barb. But fishing is faster to do with the C2 clearing method too, so the actual fastest way of training turns fishing into a buyable too. I have no idea if Suomi used a horn or not, but paying front page BA players to fill your horn takes agility from 65k/hr or w/e it is now to 80k+ on average. (That includes time spent filling the horn.) So when it comes down to it, the most efficient way of training to 200m makes almost every skill expensive to train. Hell, paying for 4s1l dungeoneering is the fastest, if not most fun, way of doing dg. Only Thieving, Hunter, Dungeoneering, (if you don't leech) and Runecrafting don't have significant costs. So if you discount buyables, Suomi would barely be touching 1b total xp right now. Making the gp for 200m all without buying a dice rank or getting lucky in the DA is almost as large a component as training the skills themselves. I remember reading in Zarfot's merchanting guide that at the height of his flipping, he averaged 50m/day. That's when he had the huge amounts of capital needed to invest effectively. Discarding the buyable aspect is basically impossible.
  3. The new journals were very interesting to read, especially Zilyana's and Nex's. More lore, less spinning green goblins please.
  4. Male character faces look so bad now. With the mouth constantly open, they look a bit 'special'. Also pernix looks awful. The chaps remind me of waders. And our new massive heads ruin lots of hats too.
  5. At the last RF MMG said that the next tier of gear was planned to be released with player owned ports, so I'm not sure if they are basing the difficulty of nex on the potential for new bosses really. As in, I don't think they are making Nex slightly harder because they're going to release a new boss with better gear soon. I think they're just making it slightly harder.
  6. Just a quick thing to mention here; although running a track or some other sport has significant health benefits, nowadays the extremes of sport can involve taking drugs which create huge health problems. Similarly, spending time playing computer games or on the internet is only unhealthy in extremes. There's nothing special about the internet and gaming, most leisure pursuits are destructive when pursued to extremes.
  7. Precisely what social pressure would you apply? I mean, if someone has significant wealth and is capable of doing whatever they want with their time, what can you do to stop them? Equally, if someone has a full time job and has no problems supporting themselves but still manages to stay in the top 10 on the hiscores, (I know of one player for whom this is true, there is probably more than one) how can you stop them? The answer is you can't, at least in societies where basic personal freedoms are allowed. That player might view activities you take part in with the same level of disdain you evidently hold for them.
  8. Bet bet is to bind a plate for now over a hood. At 100 dg get some gaunts until you find a hex/bneck. Even with randoms on w67 or whatever the equivalent world is now, most floors are going to be in the 12-20 minute region, so you'll be dehooded for such a large % of most floors that the hood isnt worth it. Don't think about binds for the EoC yet, it's at least a couple of months away, and robe top/bottom are wastes of binds currently.
  9. Between 200m slay just before the effigy nerf and 200m rc just before the runespan nerf, Suomi has had his fair share of luck lately. Inb4 Jagex make Ibis work at PP just before he starts thieving.
  10. How many people actually take that advantage? I'm guessing not many. But at least one or two will, and more will in the future. It comes down to the idea of the integrity of your achievements; if someone else can just buy it, what's the point.
  11. They also said real life wealth would never affect your gameplay. Look how that turned out. Oh, come on. Why do you got to be so negative :/ ? Certainly there have been broken promises. But at least give them a chance. I don't think they're so incredibly stupid they will actually start selling in-game advantages. Even though they're certainly not far from it now, this post have at least restored some of my faith in Jagex. Let's all hope they keep these promises now. Such a long time player like you, Den, should hope for this. Just as much as myself that too have been around for some years now. I'm a tad confused by this bit. "I don't think they're so incredibly stupid they will actually start selling in-game advantages." Really? Did SoF skip your memory, or does 800k/hr agility not count as an ingame advantage in your book?
  12. If you use the Taverly method more like 1-1.2M /hr. Or you can make scrolls too, in which case it's about 600k/hr xp and significantly reduced cost.
  13. At the moment burst spells are more accurate and do more damage than barrage. Training magic via ss bursting on ape atoll is around 2m/hr with burst, and around 1.6m/hr with barrage. I have no idea how they managed to [rooster] that up. Also, if you don't 'tag' a slayer monster before your cannon or titan kills it, you now only get half slayer xp for that kill. Unless Jagex want to turn slayer into stand under the cannon and hit everything once then spam magic abilities because they're so powerful the combat triangle becomes irrelevant again, then by all means. Otherwise a fix would be nice.
  14. Runescape gold isn't a tangible good, so gambling laws wouldn't apply. If they banned leading gambling RWT'rs only to introduce RWT through their own gambling system I'll laugh. Remember "We aren't selling xp because the SoF is random"? That could just as easily apply to a new gambling system and selling gold.
  15. Chaotics are best in class weapons for the EoC, although there are other non chaotics that are now the equivalent (Dominion gloves). So EoC won't be the update to supplant chaotics, you'll have to wait for player owned ports for that.
  16. It's good that the CS problem has been fixed then. And the reasons for the bans were RWT (Major), there was no mention of scamming. They also banned some of the other hosts who rwt'd the day after, xMarlen being one of them. (He was the guy who got scammed by Stokenut if anyone remembers.)
  17. No one donated 20B to Jake. For cons he'll be doing oak dungeon doors or whatever the fastest thing you can do with oak is.
  18. Security dongles or two step verification would be a great idea. A few months ago my account was compromised and I had become complacent and no longer banked all my items before logging out. I lost a blue partyhat, an elysian, a set of Pernix and other items. At the very least we should be able to PIN lock our equipment as well as our banks and money pouches.
  19. Except when an item crashes heavily, the CS price doesn't adjust for market price. Then the item's new market price sits comfortably below the CS wall, and you have tens of billions of gold in the economy with the items stuck in the ge. Eventually the item might rise in price again until it hits the CS wall, at which point it drops precipitously due to a vast supply of items at the CS wall and only slightly elevated levels of demand (See the recent behaviour of the divine and elysian). But many items never reach their CS walls again, (Nex gear looks likely to do this now) leaving you with billions of gp in the economy without any items to balance it. And it is highly unlikely that the -5% will outweigh the gp from the items stuck in the wall. Coinshare as a system is seriously flawed, and needs to be addressed if there will ever be a stable economy.
  20. The problem is that there are a vast number of players that want to bet on the various games, and since players can simply host on irc channels regardless of what jagex does (some of the most successful dicing clans are irc exclusive) there is nothing jagex can do. Instead, I propose that Jagex put some basic maths lessons on the home page. Multiplication, Percentages, Independent Probability should cover it, as anyone with a basic understanding of those concepts would understand that betting is the height of foolishness. Once people are no longer so completely ignorant, maybe there will no longer be a market for hosts. The only reason hosting is so lucrative is that there is a market for it. Even just from the people on this thread, I recognize two people who have bet very large amounts in Win All Day before. People like to complain about things, so from the posts on a forum like this you might think that dicing is extremely unpopular. But in reality it just isn't the case.
  21. Supposedly the goliath gloves were made weapons to stop them from competing with nex gloves. Does this mean steads will be now be made weapons to stop them from competing with nex boots?
  22. But he's not as well known, so banning him wouldn't have the same effect. At the end of the day the gold these players sold is irrelevant compared to the gold generated and sold by botting companies daily. As I said, it's a publicity thing. INB4 Runefest announcement.
  23. No need to speculate, just search the account names on the hiscores.
  24. Hi, Today we have banned several high-profile accounts from the dicing scene. We can happily confirm that the ring leaders found to be involved in selling RuneScape gold have been banned. Their actions have directly funded a sizable portion of all real world trading activity within the game, led to increased macro use, and resulted in huge surges in spam advertising. Such actions are strictly against our rules, and all accounts have been wiped and permanently nuked. This should serve a clear warning to anyone else engaged in similar activities; expect more bans of any continuing offenders. We have been finely tuning our new anti-cheat and anti-hijack tools over the past few months and are now steadily bringing these systems online in select areas. This is part of an on-going rollout that will be completed over the course of next two months. More good news will follow in due course. Some of you may already have noticed that we have started cleaning up the high scores over the last week and this will assist us in being able to re-introduce relevant gold farmer free F2P high scores again. Mark Gerhard CEO [qfc]14-15-878-63948495[/qfc] As far as I'm aware, this includes only Win All Day and Stokenut so far. Whether other well known dicing and staking rwt'rs are banned remains to be seen, as there are considerably more just as bad and worse than those two. At the moment it feels like a publicity coup to me by just banning the YT famous ones. F2P hiscores is fantastic news. Thoughts?
  25. Ideally SoF lamps couldn't be used on a skill until there is at least one player with 200m xp in that skill, othewise it removes all sense of competition.
