Has there even been a completed Runescape storyline?
Greedom1 replied to The Real ET's topic in General Discussion
I'm mostly the same way. Some of the larger and more intense quests I may bother reading the boxes, but many are somewhat meaningless. I mean Rat Catchers... if there's a story there, I really don't care, because the quest and any reward was totally a waste of time. Story lines aren't necessarily bad - they just aren't really for me. If Jagex adds new content to the game, I don't need to know "why" -- I just want to know what it does and whether it's worth doing/getting. -
If anything this was a medium to low level quest that was ramped up with a good boss monster... The story was admittedly a bit cheesey, but I'd rather have that tough guy at the end than some dumb lvl 79 monster that I can kill with my magic secetuers... In no way was this a master quest. If you were hoping for it to be, you're in good company (I'd like one myself). However, I still stand by this quest being a solid -- albiet medium level -- quest.

Nice, good quest (considering the intentions) placing a new quest location smack above fally is a giveaway that Jagex wants newbies to man up and jump to members... Makes sense in many ways. Not the best quest, but fair requirements, rewards, nothing great, but not too much of a drag either. Good quest. Sidenote - the piano music was a nice touch - and to some it may be a bit of a stretch. However, they've done the block puzzles, the sudoku whatnot, and others... having a nice puzzle in this quest was quite enjoyable... (Raises the bar above perhaps a 7 year old playing this game...)

Dragon Arrows, Dark Bow, Dragon Darts-Starting Prices?
Greedom1 replied to denhaag0o0's topic in General Discussion
This could easily be the biggest update to range in years. However, don't forget in all of this that range is a relatively boring and slow way to kill monsters. The whip got its price initially for duelers/stakers and even some pkers. The vast majority of whips are now used exclusively as training weapons for melee. For training, the magic short or even the crystal bow will still reign supreme. Unless the bonuses on these bows make the dark bow so super over powered, then it will never be used for training as much as the whip. I anticipate it starting fairly high (people have gobs of money), then dropping FAST if it ends up being underpowered (relative to a cheap mage short) or even slower than the magic short. I'd say 20 mill for the bow for the first day, 10 mill the next, and dropping to 5 mill within a week. It's all about demand for the bow in this case. Which could be high because a lot of high lvls have maxed out cb and may be working on range to 99 these days anyways. (Don't forget in all of this about the compound magic bow - which came out and quickly became a disappointment.) -
Are Jagex's updates ever really THAT bad?
Greedom1 replied to evilrodyle's topic in General Discussion
I absolutely agree with what you're saying except for one thing. Jagex still has come out with "updates" in the last year or two that have clearly been inferior and, in some respects, detrimental to the game. (See my previous posts for explanations.) -

The other half of that were the necklace updates... (the skills necklace allows for tanning about 50% faster than al kharid on a good day... just fyi.) :) -

Greedom1 replied to evilrodyle's topic in General Discussion
I definitely have to agree again on the nerfing. I'd say about half of the time it's completely merited, but others... simply idiotic. -
"Older" is always relative. However, maturity is a constant. The fact that older players tend to be more mature surely helps most, but undoubtedly even a young RSer can meet the match of the oldest. Other issues come into play of course: game time being one. (Which is relative during summer, but consider bed times are no issue for those out of HS... with no real jobs...) The biggest reason that older players do better is that they're simply smarter. Or better yet, WISER. Experience in any game (including life) cannot be bought or cheated. It has to be earned. 'Nuff said. :-w

Forgot about the ddp++ / dds and I totally agree - everyone still asks for dds' anyways when they're buying them... :) -
Actually no. Get your mind out of the gutter. :shame:

Are Jagex's updates ever really THAT bad?
Greedom1 replied to evilrodyle's topic in General Discussion
Yes, there are plenty of "bad" updates. None that completely ruin the game, but there are many that are either: a) not thought out well, or B) conflict with or water-down other previous updates. Some examples of the first: The Barrelchest Anchor. It seemed like Jagex was trying to alleviate the concerns of extremely disparate groups of RS players with this (having the 720k cost, then a coin drop if you lost it in wild... They got around to a compromise eventually.) Gnome minigame with the cooking was completely lost on the majority of the RS population. They completely missed the mark with the game mostly due to the fact that they didn't understand what motivates 90% of the RS population: GP, and leveling skills as fast as possible. Some examples of the second: Many of the "worthless" items that are introduced that are evidently targeted towards extreme low leveled players. A lot of the clothing updates in the last two years reflect this. I completely understand the need to market and tailor the game towards the majority of the players, but honestly very few even want that junky clothing to begin with. Most are dying to get their hands on: 1. full rune, 2. a d med, 3. barrows set, 4. d chain and then on from there. Of course I will contradict myself and say that I love my moonclan hat as I always wear it while farming (which is 90% of the time right now) Also, Jagex has a weird way of "fixing" skills so they are less efficient. When they did a silver update about 2 years ago they removed the "craft -x" option for silver jewelry (gold was always make 5, 10 at the time). They kept it without the "craft-x" for about a year or more until one of the more recent silver crafting updates. At that time, they finally addressed the silver thing as well as making gold jewelry also as "craft-x." (You may hate crafting, but when you've done 25k tiaras like I have, you'll appreciate the lunacy of a simple "update" mixup like that.) Many new quests or updates to skills (like jewellry) are great additions, but elements of them overlap or are redundant with other previous aspects to the game. One of the biggest are when tele locations seem to overlap way too much. This isn't as big of a deal since many like different mage styles and variety is nice. So overall, I suppose it's a bit of a wash... This thread really isn't about arguing the merits of individual updates (I only mentioned some to elaborate). I fully appreciate Jagex's hard work, and I realize I may hate an update that plenty more love. That said, with a little more thought, I'm sure there are a few updates that just simply never should have happened. -
Pretty much any quest boss monster since I've reached 100 cb and up. Almost all of them are a snap. Even Dream Mentor (no prayer and 85 cb quest requirement) required picking a good inventory of sharks and nothing more.

Gree's Mini-guide to obtaining fruits for protecting trees.
Greedom1 replied to Greedom1's topic in General Guides
Thanks :) The usefulness is naturally limited which I readily admit. If I get really inspired, maybe I'll eventually expand it one day, but for now, this is it. ;) -
read the rest of the posts - several people have confirmed there is not a tanner there. (only the one who tans susqah hides in quest)
-
The range guild jewelry tele would be the bracelet of combat (d stone bracelet) - gives four charges - recharges at Legends guild totem. However, this method requires a boring and lengthy chat with the tanner before he gives up the goods... (even if he didn't require that, it'd still be a little further to him -- even with the stairs from the craft guild considered.) Really, it's the chat that takes the fun out of that method. However, thanks for the heads up LK - I never knew about the range guild tanner there... Clearly Jagex wants to give us more (abiet mediocre) methods of raising that elusive crafting skill...

You've said it better than I could. Suz_Vega, just try that lunar spell humidfy and good grief you'll be out of empty vials so quickly, you may just try that Catherby method. Don't say I didn't warn you. :)
-
Lol :) most people immediately jump on those high level trees and simply waste their time/money. (That's like lvling construction 52-60 on mahogany logs... doesn't make much sense considering the cost.) For higher level farmers, the best trees are always in demand, however, for most people only leveling farming from say 50-65 or even 75, the lesser trees and fruit trees are definitely workable.

Gree's Mini-guide to obtaining fruits for protecting trees.
Greedom1 replied to Greedom1's topic in General Guides
Lol, will do - thanks - added to front page. -
Yeah, actually I've sold sweetcorn before (over 3.5k of them) for about 300-500 ea before. :\
-
Agreed - I did about 400 in under 10 mins. However, the Catherby method requires emptying the vials first, making it a slower than buying waterfilled vials outright. Lunar spells come in again, 13 buckets of sand and 13 seaweed make 19 molten glass, easy crafting exp and easy to fill vials. Yes, I agree (I have over 4.5k glass from that beautiful spell), however the question is still about things closest to a bank. (Which I still feel is shilo.) Undoubtedly the easiest way to get vials (and get exp for it) is to do the method you described. (Also, I find I get between 13-21 glass for each time I do the spell)
-
Not to hijack your guide, but please check out mine for getting easy-to-get farmer payments for trees and fruit trees. http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=631281 (I find the Ape Atoll method is far superior to any other way to get lots of bananas. Though, as you mentioned, this requires completing several quests.)

Greedom1 replied to Greedom1's topic in General Guides
Read Kama's guide to why you shouldn't pay for trees. http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=656580 I understand his point of view on the higher payments for trees, but with the methods I've mentioned, there is really no good reason not to pay for trees given how easy the payments are to get. -
They absolutely need to double or triple the amount of specials patches (maybe except for calquats - spirits you can only have one atm anyways). Example: I have over 350 belladonna seeds... max I possibly get planted per day is 2 a day - maybe 10 per week. (Sure, I can no-life and get 3 planted - and 20+ per week, but whatever.) Any good slayer knows that you get belladonna seeds like the plague. I find it odd that on some tasks, I would get between 5-10 per task... way more than I can ever plant. What the heck is the harm in adding another plot for those, hmmm? (Same for mushrooms and cactus). Did You Know? (Belladonna Farming Tip)[hide]If you have a ton of belladonnas, you can plant them and dig them up immediately without waiting for them to grow/mature. You lose the potential seed (and exp for picking), but you can get exp for planting each time. This is especially useful if you're only a few hundred to a few k away from a level.[/hide]

Yes, my bad. The ones a bit east and north of cw (across the two bridges). I'm sure there's something a bit closer, but those are the first that come to mind.
-
it may be a better tanning method, but thats completely irrelevant to this list. Also, shilo may have actual empty and water filled vials, but their supply is sad, catherby has much better supply, and you can just empty them on the way to the bank. That's why I made it hidden. For those interested, they can check it out. My initial (and subsequent comments) were on topic and completely relevant. Feel free to do whatever method works for you, but ultimately the closest are still in Shilo distance-wise.
