Agreed - I did about 400 in under 10 mins. However, the Catherby method requires emptying the vials first, making it a slower than buying waterfilled vials outright.

You cannot tan hides on Lunar Island. The closest tanner (to a bank) is a toss up between Canafis (closer, but 2x price), or Al Kharid (20 gp). An even better tanning method:[hide]Though, tanning is fastest with skills necklaces teles to Crafting guild (tanner is upstairs, charges 20 gp per dhide), and then a cw tele to bank. You can disagree, but it is freaking incredible. Any crafter worth their salt should already have plenty of dstones they can spare to make a dozen or two necklaces. Overall, I can do about 3-4k hides per hour. (More if I click perfectly)[/hide] Also, I have an issue with the "vial supply" one. The farming shop in Catherby is about as far as the general store in Shilo from a bank. However the latter actually sells vials (filled and empty) that do not require emptying and refilling (like the plant cure vials in Catherby). Someone asked about Monsters with Big Bones near to a bank... perhaps ogres outside of CW. Also add: Ship Charter: Catherby

I think it was Celestrana, but I agree with him, so anyways. :) Let's get this thread back on topic and to ways farming can be improved (if at all).
-
It's not everyone's cup of tea (I readily admit). But personally it fits in well with how I play RS: with consistent frequent breaks. Normally, I simply do about 2 farm runs a day (all herbs, bushes, trees that are ready), and the rest of the time I'm logging in/out at the My Arm herb plot. For no-lifers who spend 10+ hours on constantly, there are of course more productive ways to level/train. However, I have a real life with real life demands and this works for me. That being said, farming is best like it is right now: only for the supremely dedicated (or slightly dedicated, but rich) players.

I completely agree. However, I think they may already have it built in. I haven't lost a poison ivy seed since about lvl 85 (planted over 400 since), but I do lose whiteberry seeds still (maybe 1 in 12 or so). Even though I think the farm level has an impact, it needs to be much greater than the impact of what the seed you're planting. (Higher level seeds seem to die less often, at least for me.)

I absolutely adore farming and herblore. (91 and 86 respectively.) As much as I enjoy farming, it needs some work. It does NOT need a minigame, or for that matter easier/faster ways to level. First and foremost, they need to fix the growing times so they are consistent. I've frequently had fruit trees take over 20 hours, while the other plots are around 14-18 hours per tree. Same thing with herbs. Sometimes it takes 75 mins, other times it takes 150. There's no excuse for this inconsistency unless it is intentional. More than likely it's a bug that has needed to be fixed for a looooong time. Farming also needs more variety. Not in the plots, but just some higher level (and new) allotment / bush / hops / tree seeds. Any of which could be used for an additional herblore update. Why can't I plant and grow a teak or mahogany tree anywhere? This would be an easy fix and difficult to abuse -- especially if you made it a special plot (akin to the calquat) that was far from a bank. However, farming does need more plots. With as wide and varied as this map is, it doesn't make much sense that there aren't more plots all around the map. Why none deep in the desert? (Near the river of course) None in elven lands? None on Ape Atoll? The addition of an allotment during the Great Brain Robbery quest was nice, and they need more of that. Lastly, farming needs to be made more attractive to lower lvled farmers. Farming really doesn't become viable (profitable) to train until you can grow certain herbs (not just ranarrs...) Usually this is about lvl 60 (for both farming and herblore). Usually, by lvl 60-65 people have gotten over the misery of early farming and can start to appreciate its benefits. The easiest way to "force" people to farm and herblore more is by making a new quest with a great reward but has requirements of 60-65 farming and herblore. Naturally this isn't the best way to achieve this, just one of the easiest.

Meanest thing you've done? (Staying in the Rules)

My response sometimes to emote begging (only when it's reaaaally annoying) is to say I'm muted and cannot perform the emote. (Which is doubly ironic because if I were muted I wouldn't be able to talk in the first place.) You'd be surprised to see how many fall for it. -
New combat requirement for the questcape
Greedom1 replied to mario_sunny's topic in General Discussion
Nah, I disagree. Quests should be quests - not like "Quests Plus" - I didn't like Rag and Bone man being split like it was, and I wouldn't like a quest being the way you described either. In a way, that'd be like a woodcutting skill cape being differentiated on whether you leveled on willows, maples, yews, or magics (say at least 10k of each or something). Overall it just excessively complicates things. To Jagex (and myself), there's no need to make it complicated just because someone (less than 1% of the Rs pop.) wants to keep their combat low and finish all quests. -

how many computers have you played runescape on?
Greedom1 replied to ganon95's topic in General Discussion
It's really 50/50. I play on ones that are working, and not on the ones that are not. -
There's little reason the stat spy spell couldn't have been integrated into the following: -Trade with NAME -Examine NAME -Check Stats NAME -Walk here Given that it wasn't added in this manner clearly means it was intended as a pking / dueling assist/weapon.

New combat requirement for the questcape
Greedom1 replied to mario_sunny's topic in General Discussion
Anyone who has finished this quest at lvl 90 or below think they could've easily finished the boss monsters without prayer/safe spots at lvl 75 or 65? I think less than 1 in 10 could manage without dying/leaving at least a few times. Sure there are some folks who could get even the fire cape at lvl 50 or lower, but I think Jagex was doing themselves a favor with the combat requirement.... Essentially I think a lot of you are missing something in this. Think about it, pure mages are ALREADY overpowered (and heavily ranted on). However, could you imagine if a lvl 60-70 mage (96 mage+ or so) had the ability to be a mage pure AND be able to switch spell books in the wildy? Absolutely there needed to be a combat requirement with that one spell in the lunar book. Otherwise you'd hear even more whining about how this would unbalance mages even more and make them unstoppable pures. Obviously I fully appreciate that Jagex probably wanted to set the bar high for players who would complain/QUIT if they lost their stuff. So, they figured they'd avoid that craziness by setting the bar high enough where most people would be able to complete it (even with a tad of difficulty). What they REALLY need to do is make combat levels completely invisible (or only visible on high scores or using the new Lunar Stat Spy spell), and then also make the wildy open to all attacks - regardless of level. The ditch of stupidity alone should suffice as a warning. There's simply way too much attention in this game focused on combat level (at least from the gameplay point of view). Combat is important, but shouldn't be the only thing you see when you click on another player. -
What do you always buy at the general store?
Greedom1 replied to cleoppa's topic in General Discussion
Ah the good old days of cruising the general stores.... I will say that it is likely the only reason I leveled herblore so high due to all the seconds (wines of zammy, unicorn horns, dragon scales, etc) from the shop for like 10 gp each. Had I started out paying the insane prices of like 500-2.5k ea for those (not to mention the herbs) I would've never touched the skill... (Especially in the lvl 40-60 herb levels.) This was of course before farming. After that, it became possible to truly make a decent profit from herbing without a ton of upfront cash. BACK ON TOPIC though: Key to buying from shops are knowing the prices they normally would sell for, what the shop sells for (up to like 35 or more), and what the maximum price the shop may sell for (1 at a time), and lastly if the items stack... and of course where the shop is in relation to the closest bank (e.g. ardougne isn't as good as say... Catherby). Mostly I only check out shops during my farming rounds. If I see something I like, I'll pick it up. The Loot: -Any herb or tree seed immediately catches my attention -uncut gems or cut gems (if there are enough) -Arrows/bolts/knives/darts. (plus the occasional ruby/diamond bolt tips) -Good (Nature/Law) runes in any large amount (5 or 10 or more) -Good ores that take long to mine in large amounts (anything coal and up - 5 to 10 or more) -ANy TT stuff (god pages, cavs, etc.) -Magic logs (not willows! Lol), sometimes yew logs. -Occasionally bowstrings -Herbs / Seconds -Any pricey item that is much cheaper in a shop (dhides) -And of course, cheap items (like burned food) if there is only one or two and the shop is full - just to clear out a space so someone will sell something else. I never buy: -Expensive rune armor (can be made from ores more cheaply) -Any dhide armor (I can craft more cheaply) -Other junk -Food Best items I've gotten: -Over 100 blue dhide sets - price was so cheap I could've made money even alching the bodies alone. (stopped buying when the inv in shop was down to 25 or so) -Zammy page -Ranger boots -A TON OF arrows for cheap cheap cheap. -
bump / see update on main page.

you can always use them to train thieving in rogue's den (5k at most before pyramid plunder becomes a better choice.) Otherwise, do sharks at 85, or monkfish. They're the best training hp/fishing exp ratio in the game. (Faster than sharks and still worth getting to train with.)

Obviously a money-hungry merchant for me.

Statistics and comparisons on NEW Obsidian training

well so does the fury But the fury is good for magic, defense, range, attack, and strength. The fury is alot more helpful as an all-around ammy, and isn't obby-specific either. In my opinion, the necklace doesnt even come close to touching the all around value of a fury, unless Jagex releases an awesome obby weapon that everyone would use. Agreed. I love this discussion about the recent update... back to lurking. :) -

New Ancient Mace (reward from Another Slice of H.A.M.) How to get multiple Ancient maces: talk to Tegdak (east of Market in Dorgeshunn city) in his apartment. Drop old one(s) on ground, talk to him and pay 1k per to get another. Limit seems about as many as you can handle before they spawn away. Though, they are tradeable as of 4.30.07 so you could get hundreds theoretically. Either way, the mace is somewhat useful in extremely precise situations (dueling, certain ways of doing barrows, pking not as much...). Hope that helps. -
No idea if I'm right but ask the Goblin Generals at the Goblin Village. When I first got the mace, I had full inventory and the General said to talk to him once I got free space. I dropped a monkfish and the cheeky Goblin General said I had to pay 1k for the mace because I "lost it". After completing the quest, I have not gone back there but maybe you can get a new one for 1k from the General. Not sure though. But, if its tradeable then its unlikely you can get it back :-k Thanks - was unable to get another from the generals... (with it dropped on ground at the time).
-
Yeah... I tried for over an hour to find him and gave up... guess it's something that you can only get once... craziness though.
-
Anyone know how to get a second one after the quest? I'm trying to find Tegdak again, but am having some difficulty. (If you drop mace and talk to Zanik he'll eventually tell you to talk to Tegdak...) Alternatively, I'll buy one from someone for 100k.

well the p ess costs 100, ya i may go with this method if i find that flax is way too slow, i have roughly 4 mil but dont feel like big spending on a dum skill like crafting :-# BLASPHEMY! lol just meant that money could get me more xp than with crafting, and crafting isnt one of the more commonly used skills so no1 really looks at it so far still gonna pick/spin my own flax, any other suggestions? No problem :) If you do pick flax, do so in Lleyta - there's a spot with flax about 1 click away from the bank there.
