Oh ya I do agree with you very much that all that GP coming in isn't a good thing, but I think the massive amount of pure cash coming in is a byproduct of the real problem, which is that EP is WAY to easy to get. If EP% is harder to obtain = Less GP comming in, and thus solves the issue. What you said is very true, and that is also one of the things I think need tweaked as well. You should be getting more EP for killing someone or being killed, rather than skilling. And you should get 0 EP% for standing around doing nothing. I'm sure more things need tweaked, but at least its a start. The whole system is flawed in the first place. EP can't be made harder to get, because for people who actually want to pk(IE, risk millions), they don't want to waste their time standing around gaining EP. Also, If I go on a winning streak, say pking 3-4 people in an hour(banking in between, so it's not like I gained 50% ep from this hour...probably didn't even gain 25%), the more people I kill, the worse drops I get. So by being a better pker, instead of being rewards, you're hindered. In conclusion, making EP harder to get is not the answer.

Actualy pvp doesn't take money out of the game. Or, at least, I've never seen anyone pking with 10m cash instead of max mage gear. Yep yep. Items going out of the game and money coming in. Rara, would item prices go up? I don't think its really the money coming in that's the PROBLEM, its the fact of how easy it is to get EP%. In all honesty, people should not get EP% for just standing around AFK'ing on PvP/BH Worlds. People should have to Kill others, Die, Skill, or do some sort of activity to gain any EP% at all. I would say at least 70%+ of people on BH worlds just AFK and don't do anything at all to get EP%. But until they change this, its still way to easy for people to get EP% and way to much money for 0 work, and thus way to easy money. Even without AFKing, it's still easy to get EP. 4 iteming +mining with brawlers. I get pked every so often, losing the 20k worth of ores I just mined. However I dont care. As I said, the new systems seems like it generates a lot more profit per hour, however it's pure cash, which becomes a problem.

DDOS is very illegal. Record the IP of the DDOSer and call up your ISP. Probably best thing to do.

Um...Wow. Without going into extensive detail, A server is a pc that is built to handle more "wear"(for lack of better term.) If you can take down a server, you can take down a PC. BTW, old computers are often used as servers for testing by small companies.
-
Wow you are wrong. Don't take away the reward of dks or kq. This saves those. 3 hours spent on runescape, 3m aquired :)... 1 was a bounty kill, which was 1.1...the other was 26king...yep..putting all my cash into items, because they are going to raise drastically. 1.Items only crash after false demand...with a hoard of GP coming into wild...I would say the value of items is going to raise legitly. 2.Millions of items have already been dropped that are monster specific(DFH, DFS, whips, boots, barrows..) those prices have already crashed and it is much too late for them to rebound to there original rarity. DFH is junk, no one is going to use it, so it will prolly not rise significantly. The only reason it was sought after is because it was extremely rare from mith dragons. Everyone and there dog now owns a DFS, so goodluck seeing that item rise back to a value to represent it's true rarity. As been said, the damage is done. I'm prolly going to pvp all night long, because this should be fixed in the morning. If not, fast 99's are going to get easier and easier.

The problem is that money comes from other players. This system has the potential to create huge amounts of money, which could cause massive inflation. Can we all just pretend that nothing's changed instead of [bleep] up our own "economy"? Get on the bus, or be left behind. In terms of runescape, I always get on the bus, because even once Jagex stops the bus, you'll still never be able to catch them walking. /metaphor

I wasn't trying to attack you in anyway. You're not giving out bad advice, however it far from solves the problem. Even if my home network was as secure as the NSA, accessing any runescape related forum(even tip.it) puts me at risk of being (D)DOSed. And yes, by contacting your ISP, they could take action against a (D)DOSer.

I think I see what Paw is trying to say, but the chance that your attacker is within distance of picking up your LAN, is very unlikely, so having a firewall, or securing your router, or whatever you're trying to say, is a very small portion of the problem at whole. These bots don't install viruses on your computer, and they don't even get any sort of access to your computer. All they do is flood your bandwidth with connection requests. LJ's explanation about Timmy and his family explains it pretty clearly. As of right now, internet connections are mainly point-to-point. Like a multi-lane tunnel, you only need to make 1 point 1 lane in order to slow down traffic. So pretty much if a tunnel has traffic going from a-f with points b,c,d,e in between, if you increase traffic at any point, the traffic behind it is going to be slowed down. Back to the bots, this is how they work. Imagine your in a chat room, and you're talking to people, everything is going like it should. All of a sudden, user1242 starts saying "Hey Room, Is anyone here?" every second for 10 minutes. It's going to be pretty hard to communicate in that chat room. The bot pings your address thousands of times, slowing down traffic, causing runescape to lag, causing jagex systems to detect the slow incoming traffic from your location, which they treat by disconnecting you from the server until traffic increases again. Because the script kiddies are novices most of the time, a simple solution that if I suspect i'm going to be doing something where a person who has my IP may know that, I'll stop all my outgoing/incoming connections that I can control, activate a script that I have that lets me know of all incoming requests and their volumes, and sends outgoing requests back to the address of the incoming requests that I choose. So far this has worked for me(I have been DDOS during a few wars back in the day, and I developed this after that, and from then on out I didn't have any problems). I havn't been in the clan scene for quite some time, so my name is kind of off the radar, so I don't usually use it anymore(in fact, it's on my old HDD, and I havn't even spent the time to put it on my new one.

The way i see it however, this isnt really going to change negativly. Instead of getting a Dbow Drop now, I get like 800k in exchangeable non-GE items, which I can trade directly into cash for what I need in supplies, which makes pker's happy. No pker wants a drop which they have to wait 3 days to sell on min due to clans merchanting them. This keeps the Dbow prices up, possibly even slightly higher than they used to be, and keeps skillers happy. The only problem is more cash comming into the game, which is not *REALLY* a long term problem. When people tend to have more cash, they buy things like 99 range/mage, from skillers, which in turn eventually get that GP trained into skills like summoning, or construction, or player kingdoms, which drain it from the game. So yes, it will make more GP come into the game in the short term, but in the long term the more GP people have, the more they spend it, and the more it leaves the game. Yeah, what about the darkbows that are lost through pking that are not reobtained through pking? No one pk's in DFH, so I understand them leaving the drops table. Some people pk in DFS, but not a majority, so I understand those leaving as well. Many people pking in: Barrows, Whips, D Boots..etc. This is going to drive these prices up, along with the amount of cash that is about to be introduced into the game. Better invest now.
-
Yep, destroying the rarity of monster specific drops was a terrible thing, but introducing hoards of cash into the economy from nothing will have no adverse effect. /sarcasm
-
This is preventable while still making your IP public. For instance, I have a script that I activate that monitors incoming connection requests, and I can choose to deny the request(which is what ussually happens with firewalls), and send back a request. So for every request they send me, I'll send one right back(which would cause them to get overloaded)... This so far has worked for me. DDOSing is popular in the clan world to prevent people from attending wars...etc. I've had people attempt to DDOS me, which I assumed they got my IP from other clans forums. Another option is to get a new IP(which can be done without uninstalling windows, whoever suggested that..), and then mask your IP. This would probably solve the problem(I havn't tried that yet, as there hasn't been a need...Yet).. I'm sure there are other solutions. As for the computer illiterate, wait for a generous person to post a guide.

I hope they keep hellhounds in FTP. I'm P2P, but FTP could use a high level monster update. As for BH update, I'm kind of upset. Getting barrows drop from pvp was fun. Removing poisened items only saves me the step of removing them myself...so thats good. I think they did wait too long. This is why I'm not against bug abusing. Jagex already does there job of giving other players an advantage. So to everyone who got dfh or dfs drops, congrats, you just got away with "legal" bug abusing. To the person who complained that the new drop was only worth 5m. If it takes you 2-3 hours to get 5m, I would be happy.(inconsistently, still a good drop for pvp)... Never used a gravestone before. To all the people who say things like "Omg, finally, I was sick of DCing and losing gravestone"..or whatnot, remember that this game was out for 6+ years without gravestones(I died while at bandits about 3 times from DCing, losing about 30m in guthan's spears.)...So I have no sympathy for you. So I would give this update a 3/10

...you can get at least 1m a day, playing only 3 hours a day doing green dragons.

11th June 2009 - Macro-detection systems update

Hopefully he didn't actually macro so he can be the poster child. Prove to Jagex that no appeal is utterly ridiculous. -
I'm thinking it means that they are releasing a new dungeon with loads of powerful monsters, and because of this, more gravestones turn up(lots of deaths)...
-
Well if I have brawlers, I find a way to use those(ussually 4 iteming with Warrior Ring to gain EP). Otherwise, you could do anything. I'd reccomend not just sitting there, because there are better ways to gain money(unless you're f2p)

Now since no one can ever be sure (halting problem is unsolvable for both the human as well as computers) if another person is using a bot, banning is completely wrong - explain to me, why should someone be banned if they are innocent.. OW AND STOP TALKING ABOUT HOW JAGEX CAN REMOVE YOUR SUBSCRIPTION LIKE THEY WANT: they can't, it's completely ilegal to do unless given a refund or a proof in advance. (meaning, you shouldn't have to ask for proof).. - Problem is, going to court is more expensive these days than a year's subscription, and jagex knows that, so they know they can just ban anyone cause nobody would ever go to the court for this. Going to court is expensive. But going to your bank and telling them their is fraudulent activity on your account isn't. As long as you can back up that you didn't recieve the service you paid for, you will most likely recieve your funds, and your bank will send a big, bad credit union after Jagex. And it's not worth Jagex's time to fight with the union over a $6-$100 subscription. -
...its really no different then killing kbd's for days, except it has a broader range of items. In reality, soloing the KBD has no risks. It's simple to do, and can drop the visage. In retrospect, for pvp you have to spend 2 hours in a hotzone risking at least 75k. Just like KBD, although you could lose your risk, you would have to be slacking quite a bit to do so(protect item)... Really all Jagex did is give a way to make money while training non-combat skills(brawlers)...Each brawler gives me roughly 400k-600k mining xp, the way I do it, + profit from 26king + small profit from ores(if I don't get pked, which happens a lot). The other day, I made 2m in 2 hours of playing. Today, I made 300k in 2 hours of playing. It's just as consistent as slayer. This post is poorly written because it's late, and I'm just trying to get it out before I go, but it pretty much straight up combats your argument. Anything you bring to the plate will be shot down. I don't mean to be arrogant, I'm just saying thats why Jagex doesn't consider any problems with 26k trick...(it shouldn't even be a trick...it's more like expelling your earned potential.)...I wish Jagex would just simplify the process. Instead of having a friend come lose 26k per 25%, I wish jagex would just have it so you could trade it to a guy for a random drop. Put the guy in the wild, that way it still has the same risk. As for actual pking: It's full of rushers, dharokers, and 1 itemers. I hate that dharokers think they don't have to skull against people using whip. You wearing better armour, thats why it's worth more. So if I get the best four item strength bonus in the game, you don't expect me to skull because I'm risking millions...sorry, thats another subject, it just grinds my gears. Anyway, the only way it's worth actually going to the wild and pking is if you're going to do BH and strictly dm your targets. You get 30% of their armour+ your pvp drop. That way when you kill a guy for 1m in gear, you actually get 1m in drops(or hopefully) instead of the lame 300k, which I'm used to seeing.

11th June 2009 - Macro-detection systems update

Thickness of skulls, you say? Hm. This is not a great update as they have made false claims and disallow appeals to players accused of macroing. It's virtually impossible to detect sufficiently sophisticated macros (which are not difficult to make) this will certainly result in false bans. Jagex's "100% certainty" is off by many percent. So they lied..they know, you and I know it, what difference does it make? Andrew Gower isn't a saint, and is MMH or MMG or w/e his name is. Nor the rest of the staff. I'd say take it with a grain of salt. As for worrying about the security of your account, I'd say worry about it when it becomes an issue that effects you (or your close friends). Just remember if it can be secured, it can be cracked. If it can be automated, it can be detected, and if it can be built, it can be destroyed. But like you said, unless Jagex had someway of knowing your account was macroing(ie, they were looking for it), there is no system that is going to be able to skillfully tell the difference between a well-programmed macro, and an ordinary human. (I think there key is log-in...I bet many macro's that detect a log off don't even worry about "humanising" the log-in... -

I agree that no appeals is wrong. The other guys post sums that up. I wish jagex had better means of customer support. Working in the business world I found that some things are faster handled byphone communications. Not only that but sometimes its easier to make decisions as unclearity is easily notice in verbal versus email. Also appeals give jagex a chance to better look at the case. Systems don't detect everything and often make mistakes. I think if they made the apeal process more difficult then those who feel wrongfully accused will be more willing to appeal vs those who don't care as much. 400 characters is not enough to submit a good appeal. -

I'm a little worried. My account was stolen for around 6 months. After I finally recovered it, I noticed that the account had an offense(noes!!!!) for macroing. It was temp banned for like 3 days according to the emails I went through. I appealed when I got the account back, as I had proved to Jagex that my account had been stolen(the hacker continously recovered it after I recovered it), but the refused to accept my appeal. O well, I don't mind a black mark as long as it doesn't lead to future bans. Anyway, hopfully Jagex doesn't decide to punish my account now. As long as they don't, I don't macro, and am not worried about future offenses(assuming it doesn't get stolen again, which shouldn't happen as I refuse to play on a public computer anymore)... -

 That scammer got owned by the rollback. As I remember, Jagex used to be more willing to do a roll-back. I remember there being an instance where my friend traded me like 4 rune longs, and I gave him my green halloween mask. He logged out right away, and I think I pulled an all nighter. Sometime during the night, when I logged back in, I had my green halloween mask back. I was so furious. I just lost 90k!... -
That is why you were banned. It was clicking very consistently, and not because of some action you kept doing -- you were basically programming it to click for you, which is against the rules. It's a feature often seen on touch screen: (In the way I coded the driver, it was even impossible to remove so I thought: hey why not make it a feature :P).. But anyways: it's all part of the hardware, it's not a bot (which is software only)! Um, not... I own a "bot" that contains a lot of hardware(non-runescape related)..

Can't imagine how this could possibly be a problem -- I'm sure Jagex hasn't given us avatars that are anatomically correct under the skirts. Immature twerps...? Ever heard of 'em? And thats what the ignore feature is for...
