its time to say good bye
i know that im stretching, it but i think i have to stretch it. ive heard versions of my story many times before, and none of them impacted my life. when i finally realized that i, personally, can either choose to play this game or go to a really good college like harvard, it finally hit me. all of those hours of playing that game have pretty much cost me the chance to go to a school like harvard, but since i overcame this, i still have a chance. i dont want others to make the same mistake. i dont want others to give up their chance of going to a really good college because they werent looking into the future. so pretty much, if i can help anyone the slightest bit, being harsh about this topic and exaggerating my point will be well worth it. i agree with your whole post, except for the first sentence. NO game should take over your life to the point where you cannot stop playing it. as for the rest, i do believe that games are amazing for you if you play in moderation. if you play 10 hours a week at most? way to go. what happens when those hours start adding up? 10? 20? 30 hours a week? i think that you would agree that that kind of addiction is going too far. the point of this topic isn't to make you sad, or to make you think that you're living your life the wrong way. this topic is my way of saying dont make hte same mistake that i have made. its my way of saying that this isnt your future, and that if you just spend a little less time playing this game and studying, it can make a huge difference in your future. to others of you who have read this, i thank you for spending your time reading this post, and i hope that even if you dont agree with me, that you will take my thoughts into consideration

RuneScape article 12th most edited on Wikipedia
we all have to remember that runescape is THE biggest MMORPG out there. no other game has anywhere near the number of players as runescape does. with runescape's massive community, i dont find this puzzling at all  wikipedia is more comprehensive about runescape than jagex is comprehensive about runescape :?: :?: :?:

its time to say good bye
i do that pretty much, but in a game i dont get addicted to. in age of mythology i have no goal, where in runescape i had constant goals. i was trying at once to get both 85 slayer, 90 defense, and 94 magic, all in teh same time period. that in itself was addictive, not to mention the games of castle wars i wanted to play, the tet events id wnat to attend, and many other things. now, in age of mythology all i do is find a game to play, and play it. there's no goal to find the perfect game, theres no goal to be the best because i dont play rated games. so in the end, age of mythology gives me just as good of a time, without giving me any real goal but to have fun. like i said before, i dont want to tell you to quit right this instance. i just want you to take into perspective how much time you spend on this game. sure, if you have nothing else you can do, why not spend it on something enjoying? in response to the addictiveness and the time consuming aspects of the game, i totally agree with you. I HAVE been on serious skill sprees as you have, i HAVE been on the same crazes before, as you have, and i can say now that i have quit that they werent worth it. spending 12 hours on a weekend getting those levels? if you ask me that is going too far. and in response to the hobbies, ive always had other hobbies, even when i was playing this game. I've always liked to run, play the violin, listen to classical music, and ive always been a pretty social person. On the other hand, i devoted more time to runescape than i did to almost all of these COMBINED. id have to say that runescape was a necessary step in my life, and im glad i played it. it taught me so much about myself that i couldnt learn from doing other things, but its time to go. when you play the game you dont realize how many hours you spend on it. you dont realize that it wont get you into college, and it certainly isn't going to pay the bills. so yes, i agree with what you're saying, but hear me out. im NOT telling you to quit, just to take a step back and look at what you truly want. do you want that job as a brain surgeon? do you want to go to an Ivy League school? questions like this have told me that i need to spend a little less time playing, and a little more time studying, but that doesnt mean i gave up having fun, it just means that im prioritizing what i have to do to succeed in the rest of my life. thankyou 8) :?: :?: :?: its posts like these that make me scepticle (sp?) of the tip it community. are you really so thick headed that you cant even try to look at it from my point of view? next time, please dont look at a post like this and say "what a loser i could care less about what he says, even if it may be true", and try saying "gee, ill look at his point of view even if i dont like it". once again, i dont want to change your life, but i would like to tell you about what ive done wrong in my life so i can possibly save someone out there from making the same mistake thats exactly the reason i play games for. the only problem with rs is that it is so addictive. nobody who plays this game can honestly say that there is no addiction involved in it. that reason alone was enough to make me quit and find a less addicting game. so yes, i completely agree with what your saying, i just cant trust myself to play such an addicting game. i think i posted something about that before. i think the first step to becoming addicted is to use this game as a way to "escape from life". i truly believe that that is the main reason that people become addicted. but yes, if you use it to relax, more power to you! games were meant to help you relax, and if you use them to do that, great job! well said, although i still disagree with you. many people realize that this makes them happy. not many people realize that this probably will not make them happy forever. what happens if you lose interest in this game? all of those hours mean nothing once you've quit. what happens when you need a job? how will your 99 stats help you then. im just saying that this game isnt going to make you happy for the rest of your life. but i still believe that playing it is a good thing, just not to the point where it takes over your life. i dont know if i mentioned it before, but i certainly wrote something about this at the top of this post. Age of mythology, at least for me, is a much less addicting game. I dont have to worry about leveling up, since there are no levels. i dont have to worry about getting on the highscores, since i dont play rated games. I dont have to worry about looking cool, or being rich, because there is no money involved. isntead, all i have to worry about is having fun. how does reading and exercise have no real benefit? i know im going to the extreme here, but i currently weigh ~105 pounds and im 15 years old. If i were to stop exercising and eat more unhealthy food, i would gain a lot of weight. i certainly wouldnt want to do that. Also, by gaining weight you open yourself up to health problems. exercising alone increases heart strength, and keeps your muscles fit. im not someone who cares about having the biggest muscles, or being the best at a specific sport. I exercise to keep myself in shape, to avoid problems that i may have in the future. if looking out for my future health is a crime, then you may find me guilty. reading-how can you honestly say that reading has no point? if you read school books and find it interesting, will that not probably help improve your grades? i myself read a mix of books that i enjoy, and books that i should read for school. read the lord of the rings series? of course i do! read an SAT biology book? i also do. to the other posters-thankyou for your comments and your wishes. I am staying a part in the tip it community, but you will probably only see me in runescape at TET events.

its time to say good bye
i personally think that the first step to becoming "addicted" to runescape is to use it as an attempt to get away from something. in doing that, you are acknowledging that a game is the solution to a problem, and that the only way to remain happy is to play the game. sorry to steal him, but i wanted to enslave him for a good reason, not because he's well known

its time to say good bye
even though i have left runescape i intend to be active on these forums, so in a sense im not leaving  as for your really really random question, cardsfan refers to the saint louis cardinals, not to the playing cards, so the answer is no

TET Presents! WHACK-A-NOOB! F2P EVENT! OVER!
Depends on how you use it. In this case, it represents the poor sods who will fall victim to our attacks. I did not use it in a negative way. It's just a fun title. I think the many variations and interpretations of 'noob' keeps it from being stereotypical at all.exactly, i personally use noob in a lighthearted manner, saying that im unskilled in the game, or that for that split millisecond that my mental capacity was at an astonishing low. err...back on track, im going to come to this event if i can, even though ive quit. rubber chicken=my favorite item in the world!

its always sad to see a member of the same community leave, but i dont want people to be said for me. instead, i hope that they can take something away from what ive posted to possibly improve their life. im in no way saying that that you should live the "cardsfan says to do this" lifestyle, i just want to open people's eyes to something that they may not have noticed. well done! i too browse these forums, and i play age of mythology instead. i think age of mythology is better because there is absolutely no goal that you can haven unlike rs where you can choose to be teh best fighter, the best in castle wars, the best in a certain skill, the best in a certain monster, etc. instead, in age of mythology you can only be the best in the game that you are playing in. there is no long term goal, unless you want to be #1 on the highscores, but its a step in the right direction, seeing that runescape has a #1 for like 20 different things.

i LOVE the cardinals, though they're of the saint louis variety  yea, im glad to see that you're cutting down the time you play. any step you take in the right direction helps, and i hope that eventually you can either stop playing altogether, or play a limited time that you're happy with (since judging from your post, you at least somewhat want to quit)

its time to say good bye
i completely agree with you. as a matter of fact, thats what i do now, except not with this game. i also work a lot during my day, although only 14 depending on what you call getting to school. the weekends, however used to be a different story for me. I would wait until the weekend to play, and then i'd find myself getting 8+hours on that game. I think that that is way too much, and completely kills the original intention for the game.

just so nobody is confused, this is a quitting rs post. many of you dont know me. My rs name is chess1991, and i have been playing for 4 years, even though my stats are mediocre. I am NOT going to tell you about how much money i made over those years, or how cool my stats are, because thats not what this post is about. Instead of writing this post about how cool i was in the game, im going to write this post on a more meaningful subject-why i should quit. Runescape is a trap. It lures you in with its exciting and diverse gameplay. It causes you to play hours on end trying to achieve a "higher" level of pixels. It draws people into the exciting "omg that armor is so cool", or "omg i wish i could make that potion" aspects of the game, and lures you away from how much time it takes to achieve that. That alone ruins the game. There is no possible way to get those hours back that could have been spent doing more productive activities. my views may seem harsh to you, but im sure that you will agree with me, no matter how much you want to disagree. as many of you probably know, runescape is a VERY time consuming game. the later levels of a skill take multiple hours to level, and the harder skills may take weeks to get descent exp in. How much time are you willing to spend to get that extra level. I used to fall into this category. I would sometimes give up studying time to level agility, or instead of going inside i would train magic, and for what? now that i've quit, i have nothing to show for those crazy hours spent. Now that im in highschool, my 90 range does nothing to improve my grades, and my agility sure doesn't help in sports. however, i dont think runescape is all bad. It DOES increase how social you are, and it DOES teach you about the economy. at least to some, it teaches that you have to earn what you want-you cant just sit like a bump on a log and get a dragon chain body. so yes, runescape is a productive game, but dont let that blind you from the truth-runescape takes up a major chunk of your life. i myself spent 200 hours at least playing castle wars, not to mention the other hours of training, leveling, and hanging out with friends. dont forget, that is only a year of the time ive spent on runescape. there are still *3* years that ive spent on that game. amounting to a staggering number of hours spent on a non-productive recreation. with that time, i could have gotten straight a's (i maintain a steady A and B average now), and i could probably be a very descent athlete. For those of you who have forgotten or still havent figured out, this post isnt about saying goodbye. its not about leaving my rs character behind. its about the bigger picture. Its about saying I have to grow up and spend my time more wisely. I have to give up this game and find something else. after all, instead of playing this game i can be exercising, or reading something, which is far more productive than sitting in front of a computer. So please, for my sake, try something else. Try spending one less hour a week on runescape, and spend it on either reading something fascinating, or doing something outside. Im not trying to get everyone to quit runescape, and im not trying to tell them that the game their playing is pure evil. Im simply saying that we get so caught up in it that we lose sight of what really matters. Will this game ever pay the bills (legally...)? will it get you into college? will it ultimately make you happy for the rest of your life? No. So please, for your own sake do something else for a change. try spending a little less time on the computer, and try spending a little more time studying something that interests you, or spend it with your family. im positive that you will be happy for that choice, as i am happy about quitting. ~cardsfan/chess1991

The rule of Karma....
small world! i had a friend who happened to have a seercull when it was new. the catch-he would only give it to me for free, the nerve of him! after a while of negotiating, i gave up on getting the seercull from him, since i never take free stuff, i only borrow, of course with interest. he proceeds to drop it on the floor, which made me absolutely furious! luckily i had 500 d bones stashed in the bank to make his plan backfire  yes indeed leesters, i love reading every single one of your posts, and im glad to see that people post topics like this every now and then. even though i dont play the game any more, i hope that others in the game will follow your advice, and hopefully repair the reputation of those that play teh game.

i like your list, finally somebody who has mentioned lightning! i dont know who topaz jewel is, but im sure that he/she is a good person. For the best moderator I'd have to put Phil. He consistently makes good choices, and for some reason i find his writing interesting. Dont know who corrupted soul is, so ill just agre with that too.

This is GOING to happen in Runescape.
yes, i do remember that and that one sickened me. The rival clan came and burned teh funeral area, dug up the bones, danced on the grave, etc. one of the most disturbing things i have seen, and i dont intend to watch this movie for the same reason. you cant be considered humane if you crash a funeral. if i could i would dance on the future graves of all the people who crashed that funeral.
