Virtual stealing, court convicts
Probably not as Jagex owns everything and all things related to RuneScape, and in effect nothing was stolen from Jagex... No this is not between a company and a person, but between two people... Someone making money from the game Jagex owns will still fall under Jagex' rules and dealt with as such... I doubt there will ever be legislation on such things as Jagex essentially doesn't "lose out" on this... Also, the UK (and Ireland, btw) has an opt-out on what's known as the Area of freedom, security and justice, which means, for example, the UK cannot have someone arrested in an EU nation that IS part of that area (currently all EU but Ireland, the UK, Romania and Bulgaria), They have de-facto opted in by being fully cooperative, but this is still done on a case-by-case basis... If you ask me, though, legislation on virtual theft are lagging behind, considering the amount of stuff that goes on in the interwebs these days...

Virtual stealing, court convicts
The original conviction was 2 years ago, but it was appealed to the Netherlands Supreme Court which finally ruled yesterday. The Hoge Raad is the final institution in this case I think. It has interpreted the law since it was asked to do so, and it concluded that the law does in fact forbid stealing RS items. Which means any future cases can be dealt with much more easily, since there is no doubt about whether the law means this or that. There is one higher court a situation like this could go up to, and that is if 2 EU nationals of different countries are involved and the law and/or precedents of cases similar to this one are getting different verdicts in different countries... The European Court of Justice is based in Luxembourg and rules on matters of EU law and the implementation of it... It is still pioneering territory as no country has ever given the law out of its own hands to a supra-national body... The United Nations just deals in country vs country issues, where as the ECJ can actually get involved to the personal level, as long as it involves EU law... The Netherlands is part of the EU as one its founding (and most prosperous) members, and the first one in the EU where such a case of virtual item theft has ever made it to court... A good start is what I call this :) I could tell you a hundred reasons why to like this country that these guys just MADE themselves for every single reason out there why not to... And that's without being chauvinistic... http://www.dutchnews.nl/news/archives/2008/10/boys_convicted_of_runescape_vi.php So it was 3 and a half years ago ;) and they got 160 and 200 hours of community service respectively... The mention in the NRC article about Habbo hotel fails to mention the difference between Habbo having stuff bought with real money, whereas RuneScape does not...

Lol, world of runecraft :) So, can we please focus the debate on the article, and not the name of the skill? I kind of threw it in there as a little "oh btw", not as the main point of discussion ;)

^less discussion tends to mean more agreement... But so far article vs the PS bit is equally mentioned...

Tip.It Times - 22nd January 2012
Cuz it's the act of fishing, just like its the act of crafting, smithing, farming, etc, etc... But if that is all you took away from my article, I definitely need to change the subject for next time ;)

1/22/2012 New Members' Pricing
I still pay the price form before the previous increase (a year and a half back I guess?)

Mine's 6 euroes or free, depending how short I desire it :) Anywho, as for my own article, the hunting skill isn't the only thing with unrealised potential... If I had more time to write it (mostly my own fault) the article would probably have been better... I therefore apologise in advance if it feels that I've performed sub-par on this one... But I'm willing to make up for it here in the discussion thread :)

JAGEX LIMITED v.IMPULSE SOFTWARE, ERIC SNELLMAN, and MARK SNELLMAN
Well, apparently Jagex (indirectly) already paid for that house, so why not :)

I completely understand the difference between people not wanting the new items to exist at all, and the people who all want it... In my opinion there is little difference between the two, and I'll explain why... As I said in the article, RuneScape is changing fast and bleeding members from almost every orifice. Some, in response to my article, even said that there are also outside reasons for this, such as competition from other games. So the logical conclusion is that the marketing/rtw/trick/etc is an inevitable consequence. I see almost no distinction between people screaming "I don't want to see any of that stuff in my game!" or "I want all of that stuff from the game too!", as the whole point of my article was the screaming at these insignificant things in itself, not the reason why they are screaming. I just opted to take the envious approach as it would flow bettter in the article, and fit better with the green skin analogy... Hope that this explains that I didn't overlook the reason some people have. Ok, to fix the analogy you don't buy the bottle for someone else, but for yourself... Point remains, doesnt it? Hope that helped :) Anywho, sad that you won't find out what Xmas used to be like a few decades ago (hearkening back to an era where people didn't have loads of money to spend on stuff and food they didn't need)... But then again, don't worry, the meaning of Christmas has changed so much over time that it's pretty much an ever changing thing... Tip.It Times - 11th December 2011
Actually... To make an article about firemaking slightly interesting I thought I'd educate the ones who don't know yet on what fire actually is :) And as a result I got blamed for wasting people's time by some troll :P So the answer is yes I'm afraid, but the people we alienate have no open mind, and therefor shouldn't take part in this discussion... Nuff said... Is it any wonder that the people who are pro-efficiency and like to spend hours on end doing the same thing to race through the levels are the same ones that have no time to write an article? Didn't think so... Simply saying "write one from our perspective" isn't going to cut it... We're not on any debate team as far as I know, so we don't defend positions we don't agree with... We feel on occasion strongly enough that the grind forces us into the super efficient metagame play that we don't like... As I said, we're the creative bunch writing about stuff that comes to our mind, not to yours... We're always open to suggestions, but (and I speak just for myself here) it's impossible to place ourselves into the mind of the metagrinder because we simply don't do that because we dont liké to do it... If we did, we'd have no time left to write... Final point: The EP is working with a skeleton crew atm (and that's at the best of times) which is why you're seeing so many guest articles these days, and yes that's inevitably going to include some sub-par ones... While some people make some good points, quite a bit of the criticism is harsh and over the top... This kind of constant bludgeoning isn't exactly encouraging anyone to sign up and be dedicated to help out... You're all smart enough to do the math...

25-Nov-2011 Quick Poll: RuneFest 2012 Location
Tbh, I can think of a LOT of reasons why this event should not be held in New York or anywhere else in 'merica... The only reason to actually hold it there is to give the 'mericans a taste of it, and the London 2012 games are a good excuse to not have it in London... But... I'm spilling awesome article material here, so... wait and see :D

Tip.It Times - 27th November 2011
LOL, you're asuming anyone actually uses the citadel for anything... I'll be honest, I should've been way way way harsher in my article about citadels (see link in my sig how to find it, it's titled "All along their watchtower")

Tip.It Times - 27th November 2011
Oh no, I don't want this post removed, cuz damn this is good stuff :D It's fortunate that you speak from your own point of view, because however pointless the article might seem to you (someone who already has the knowledge) the sheer number of PM's and such that I get praising the article for including that bit of layman's science in there far outweigh the rant of one person and his sycophant... Not everyone knows what fire is, not by a long shot, and having obviously educated some people in it makes the article FAR from pointless... Your analogy with football is also flawed, as no person that knows nothing about football is interested in Manchester or Liverpool, whereas someone who is interested in one of my editorials about a subject in RuneScape might not automatically know exactly what fire is... As I said, not everyone knows exactly what fire is, and I doubt I can get many A-level chemistry students to explain it in as much understandible details as I did, and no amount of common sense is going to help that... The whole point of coming up with more suggestions to Firemaking is that NONE of those would involve Firemaking, hence the segway to Fire Usage... Yes, you're probably right that Jagex would change or remove it if they could, but as you said, removing is near impossible or somethign radical must be done... Oh wait, I already mentioned that in the article :)

25-Nov-2011 Quick Poll: RuneFest 2012 Location
There's only 1 city where this should be held: Amsterdam Everyone speaks english there. The Netherlands has the highest density of players as well as subscribers (by far). It's a short distance from Jagex HQ, a round trip can be done in 12 hours. It's a rough equal distance from the UK, Germany, France, and it's not a horribly long travel from the nordic countries. Some local vegetable might make the experience all that better. The nightlife is pretty awesome as well (amazing opportunities for pre and post parties) You've always wanted to go there, but now you have a more believable excuse to do so :D
-
Tip.It Times - 27th November 2011
You'd be surprised how many people DONT know what fire is. Whether it was too long or not, it's an article about firemaking... It's hard enough as it is to make it interesting ;)

Tip.It Times - 16th October 2011 - Interview With Elias
TBH, the solution I proposed, would even allow to remove other anti-bot measures as long as reporting is made easier and handled faster and fairer...
-
21-Oct-2011 - Bot-Busting and Bonuses For All
It wont... It's a technical solution... Yes, it'll provide the bot developpers with a herculean task to overcome it, but it will not be impossible... Once the technique has been found how to get a bot working again, the game will be flooded once again... And why do bot developpers do this? Simply because it is too big of a moneymaker for them...
-
Tip.It Times - 16th October 2011 - Interview With Elias
^So what you're saying is... We need a radical solution ;) A non-technical one perhaps?
-
Tip.It Times - 16th October 2011 - Interview With Elias
^free trade and the wilderness would have to be killed again ofc... And my article's main suggestion was also accompanied by a host of side-dishes such as making reporting easier and such...

Frost dragons have a new attack (gf bots for a week or two)
[spoiler=HUGE post] Not sure whether this is true or not, but judging from the replies to the thread it does work. [....] Heh, a technical solution is, as I have said so many times, not the answer... And voila...
