need help on shades of mort'on (picture inside)
tefda replied to glory_d3vil's topic in Help and Advice
You need to have spoken to everyone (The Two guys in town) and read the book. You should definetly have at least spoken to the general store owner about rebuilding the temple. -
Jumping Jacks... cardiovascular exercise.... But seriously it's probably fighting a losing battle. Such as while I've been fighting Dessous(?) and I'm CONSTANTLY LOSING. So when he's getting low HP I'm leaning into my screen, merely an inch or two away from the screen clicking as fast as I can on him, then food, then him, then a prayer pot, then him, then food, more food, then him. It goes on like that until I'm nearly dead (last time I was at 10hp) and I teleport out. I hate that damn vampire -.- .

Thieving was a released skill? I was under the impression that Runecrafting was the first released skill when it came out with RS2. He means back in RSC. I don't know what skills were released when Members was introduced but I'll bet that Thieving wasn't one of them so there must have been a big update for it.

 That actually does sound really funny! Thanks for the info. Makes things a lot easier.

Just as the title asks, can I exit my house while I still have guests inside of it. I want to have a drop party inside of my house but I don't have a servant to bring stuff back to me(if they even can, I don't know) so I'd have to leave. I wouldn't want to kick out all of my friends just to get a few more measly items. So can I or can I not? Am I better off getting a butler to grab my stuff (can they do that?)? Thanks!
-
Is that a challenge? ;) No sir! You Pzowned (A combination of Pwned and a Calzone) me earlier so I was giving forewarning to all others that would discuss :P

I was showing an example of how a skill was introduced and suggesting that maybe a DIFFERENT skill would come out but only if you complete a DIFFERENT high level skill. We all know Druidic Ritual isn't a high level quest. Just an example to help the flow of imagination. Sorry that the message got tangled.

Edited your post for clarity On the first bolded/enlarged thing, are you joking or being serious? Because there are two things that are weird about that statement. First off Javascript is completely different from Java. AND Runescape is the MOST complex piece of Java ever written. It would have to be to be one of the top five MMORPG's in the world (including World of Warcraft, Everquest, etc.) Secondly I think Jagex has a few more years of experience than you so you might not be the best person to compare them to  . (No offense or anything, I don't know your skill but from what you describe Jagex is a little bit ahead of the game)

Runecrafting was there when RS2 launched. Slayer though, can't really remember that one. I'll look through the Kbase and edit. Edit: I see someone already answered, but here's what I found. Here's the News Article on it. It doesn't seem to say "Look, we told you we were going to do this!" so I'd guess it was out of the blue like darkblade said.
-
When a new skill is released how would you like them to be. For example when Runescape just started out there were already skills in there. Do you like skills to be released just out of the blue? Another example is Farming, we were given plenty of warning about it and were given time to prepare for the skill. Also Construction was simply hinted at, no real conclusive statement saying "We're releaseing Construction today". My last example is Herblore, you had to complete a quest. Would you like to have to complete a high level quest to be able to start a skill? So how would you like the next skill (whatever it is) to be released? You're not limited to what I said. Those were just example of what has happened in the past. There must be other ways.

No. Runescript is a pseudo-langauge that works with the Java Engine that makes up Runescape. The Gower Bros. created Runescript to allow for faster and easier updates to the game. No matter where you are, no matter what part of the 'net you're surfing, whenever there's a discussion about how something "technical" is made that joke pops up. But I do have to admit it is still kind of funny after the hundred times I've heard it. Wait 'till Esper_Jones comes around, he'll answer it all.

Actually I believe that the Kalphite Queen does not actually "use" the prayers. The Queen's body is just impervious to certain attacks. She's not praying to any diety as we saw our nemesis in the HAM series (Sigmund I believe) actually did. And the Verac set does hit through the Queen's defenses because it hits through both Prayer AND the enemies Armor. I'd consider her protection prayers are actually just natural armor for her. But I could be wrong but either way the Queen won't be using the new prayers because she's already all-powerful and does she even use magic or ranged attacks (I've never actually gone hunting for it)?

Well what about "Don't hate the game, hate the player". Wait a second... is it "Don't hate the player, hate the game."? Hmm... pick one and that should settle this argument  .
-
And how would you do that? Kill a dragon with your bare hands? Why not? Besides you can get a free Anti-Dragonfire shield from the Duke of Lumbridge. But for me I would just thieve lots of gold and Chaos runes from Paladins until I reached enough for a Rune pickaxe then mine the best ores I could and smith the best equipment I could and then probably work on some more of my skills. Items aren't what I play the game for, I play it for the skills. I stick around because my skill total is 1440. I could live without full Rune and a Dragon Scimitar and a Crystal Bow. If I had to start anew with a level 3 account I do not think I could do it. I tried doing that and making a pure! I didn't last too long in the basic wilderness. :?

But the moment you get your acceptance letter to a university then it's all worth it and you coast for the remainder of the year. I'm just going to Uni. in about three days and my time is not going to change all too much because I don't play all too much Runescape  . But just about every other portion of my time is going to adjust. I'll still be able to log onto RS a little while each day whilst reading some notes or surfing for some research. To all of those going back to High School and below I would just like to say study hard and do not let your inhibitions stop you from doing anything. Is there a pretty girl you like? Then ask her out. Do you want to achieve something? Then go for it. Don't let people stop you from making your own decisions. For those of you who are joining me in college, let's go have some fun :D . -
Can we identify what quests are involved in what series? For example we all know that the "fairy series" involves The Lost City, Fairy Tale Part 1, and Fairy Tale Part 2. Then the "Dwarf series" would include the Fishing Contest, Between a Rock...., then of course the Rise of the Red Axe Part 1, and the Forgettable tale of a drunken dwarf. The dwarves do cross over with the Gnome quest as we see (SPOILER!) the gnomes are recruiting Chaos Dwarfs from the Red Axe although our character has forgotten about it. (/spoiler) But for me I'd have to say the Dwarf series. Keldagrim is such a unique place and there's so much that can be done with it. It's the only series that's in it's infancy right now. The fairy quests are already expanding and are moving faster than any series we've ever seen (the release of Part 1 and Part 2 was exceptionally close). So basically go Dwarves and the Green Gemstone company!

Does anyone actually know how good the herbs from the Edgars Ruse maze are? Once you have the method down it's no problem but for those of us who don't or have forgotten it(me) it would be a pain in the buttocks to go down there and get Gout Weed only to receive a single Guam Leaf in return. That'd be good to know about and write a guide for :o

They use Runescript (not the bot for IRC but that IS what they call their special RS code). No matter what language they use their going to need to change it, add to it, when they make an update. Not all items act similar. They undoubtedly have certain classes which dictate what they do, what kind of menu pops up when we right click, the default left click action of it as well. As you'll note all weapons' left click default action is "Wield" their "Uber" default would be "Use". So what I think they do is send the name of the item you clicked on and sent it through a function to see what kind of item it is (Weapon, Armour, Default, etc.) and based on that the next actions are based on what another Switch statement says. So it could be something like... Switch(item){ case "water filled vial": //The second item you click switch(secondItem){ case "guam": //Create Guam+Water potion break; case "harrlander": //Etc. } } That's how I see it. I could be very wrong, but I don't know. Also another thing is that even when items are combined in the game (the two halves of the Shield of Arrav for example) they are scripted so and there are actual bits of text that dictate that when you use the left half on the right half you will create that shield. And lastly "Runescript" is used by the developers to make updating their game EXTREMELY faster. According to what Jagex told us about it, it's an english based, easier to understand, coding system that INTERACTS with JAVA. Runescript is NOT A STANDALONE LANGUAGE it requires Java to work and Java interprets Runescript and acts upon the basic foundations of the game code which does not need to be changed because it's all encompassing. What I was saying in my previous statement was that there would have to be hundreds, maybe thousands of more secondary switch statements added into the code (whichever half of it (Java or RSscript) I don't know). Along with the fact that these super-powerful potions would be upseting the game balance in some way or another I just don't see Jagex ever making combination potions or anything of that nature. Yes they DID make "Combination Runes" but that was for two reasons, to help Wizards and to help make it faster to level up Runecrafting (which it did neither but that's another story).

Rune Rocks Escaping Techniques On Members Servers?(Serious)
tefda replied to Dragon_Scyth's topic in Help and Advice
If you use jewelry to teleport it is up to level 30 wilderness so if you can run that far you could make it. Also there is a Wilderness teleport hanging around somewhere. Keep using them and if possible try to bait your attacker to be only one square into it while you stand on the outside of it. It's either that or still using the teleporter you just keep using it until you get to lowish level wilderness and run or teleport using jewelry again. -
Everything Artie said was true. When I code stuff I have an overlaying system for certain elements. Meaning I make one code for multiple things and the only reason why I can do that is because all of those elements act in the EXACT SAME WAY. I'll bet anything that in Runescape Jagex uses a switch statement (with "if" statements to check if you're doing something else instead of just regular talking). With the switch you can easily make one code for lots and lots of things that will act exactly the same (i.e. the NPC's chatting with us). Using a switch for items would work for items but then adding in all the if statements for so many items would be ridiculous. Think of all the 2 Dose potions and the 1 Dose potions that would need to be accounted for as well. All games have restrictions. Runescape is NOT oriented experimentation and stumbling through things and coming out with an awesome item. Everything is detailed out for you. All games are the same, others just give a slight mystery to what you can do but I can almost guarantee that there is not a single game out there that has a completely scripted multiple item creator for users. Not only from the code aspect but also the game balance could be in jeopardy. The combined potions could be considered too powerful by some. What happens when you're out in the wilderness and have just about slain a person who was using their prayer to avoid damage and suddenly their prayer is back to full and so all are of their stats from one sip of a potion. Why do we have level restrictions? Why not just get rid of those and let the level 3 player mine runite. The game is difficult and you need to earn your skills, you need to strategize your inventory for what you're doing. We're given a limited space for a reason. We need to things in measured steps and not just in a flurry of seconds. Edit: Oh yeah, I forgot to ask, do you know how long Jagex actually spends on developing things? Does it actually take them a week, perhaps only a day. You do not know. I am relating from my own works in programming and not from Jagex's point of view, I only suggested a possibility of what they do.

Chris 2 8's tips and tricks for dragon hunting
tefda replied to chris28's topic in General Discussion
Never even thought about Killing Red Dragons, anything in the wilderness (except the Agility Course and the cool Teleporters there) scare me enough to prevent me from ever going there. I just might go and kill a red dragon or two if my crafting level ever reaches the point where I can make red dragonhide stuff. But nonetheless what about the Crystal Bow? Wouldn't that save you from purchasing loads of arrows and running the risk of losing them? You could always drop a couple things to be sure your crystal bow got back if you were dieing. But hey, I'm definetly not an expert. -
Do not EVER send cash through the mail! It's ridiculously unsafe. Hopefully your wrapped a piece of paper around the money to prevent people from holding it up to a light and seeing it. But what is done is done. Since you're using the good ol' USA mail I'd say give it about a week. I sent a postcard from Norway to the USA and it got to it's destination in under a week and Norway is a bit further than Great Britian so it should arrive earlier than that.

Since we're going on the super crazy conspiracy point of view and saying how "Jagex has us trapped" how do I know that all of you aren't a figment of my imagination. Perhaps the 18 years of life that I've experienced are all a crazy dream that I've made after thirty years of being in a coma? Who knows what is actually real or not, we perceive what we perceive and cannot help it and a few things can alter our perception. Take for example the attack on the World Trade Towers. We Americans thought we were impregnable, we could not be touched. Then that morning came crashing down upon us as the heap of metal and clouds of ash filled our eyes and lungs. Our perception of our world around us changed. An even better example is the Little Albert Experiment. Take your child, remove it from our worlds influence and raise it to believe completely different things. Teach your child that the world is flat, teach it that light is actually emitted from your eyes and not the sun, teach it that there is no being more almighty then the stapler. Teach the child these things and it will not just "believe" in it, it will "Know" that it is true. Again, how do I know that the people on these boards actually exist, that they are responding to real questions. Your world is can be just as fake as the Runescape world to me. Being able to escape into a world in which there is fantasy and fighting and you are a great and bold hero is a wonderful thing. It pushes away the daily grind and focuses on you and not on the Bottom Line or the troubles in your life. Everyone knows that the game is not real, I can almost guarantee that 99% of the world population would know that the game is just that, a game. But within that percentage are people that want to compete, that want to earn more points or do better than someone else, to them Runescape isn't just a game to be played it's almost a sport. I'm a competitive person when it comes to certain things. Ping-Pong is one of them. When I first started I couldn't do jack-squat with a ball. After months and months of playing against people vastly better than me and then more months and months of practicing against myself and as always my superior opponents, I've now been able to actually be a challenge to them. I've put many hours of my life into the pursuit of perfecting my spin and control of the ball. There are thousands of athletes that are paid to do that, practice their game. So why should Runescape be any different, you practice, you spend time on it, you play it to compete, why is it that people are looked down upon for playing a video game competitively. Sure there are some ground breakers out there and the public is aware of those big ol' PC game championships but our world is different. To me as well as many time invested in a game is just like time invested into work. You set a goal, you struggle towards it, and eventually you reach it with a better understanding. You were indeed fed an injustice when your years of hard work fell down the drain and one day you may be able to get retribution. But if you cannot pick yourself up from the ashes of your defeat and start anew then you've been playing the wrong game. Move on to something bigger and better now because a small game like Runescape is not for you. If you cannot laugh about being banned and instead must think up a way of saying how Jagex has you trapped then leave now and don't look back, spend your time on something bigger with a better staff if you believe in this. Now if I were in your shoes and I was somehow banned from the game I would actually take it almost as a sign. No, not a sign, more so a message. A message stating "It's time to go". There are so many better games out there that it's absolutely ridiculous for someone with an actual disposable income to not be playing them. You're right, I'm trapped by my stats, I've spent so much time on them that I don't want to leave the game. I could be playing Guild Wars or World of Warcraft with all of my friends from school, but no I choose Runescape because I've been here for so long. I'd like to say there are more reasons such as I enjoy being a part of this community, I like having been with the game since it's late-beginnings, and even the fact that it is small and I can know a smattering about every item in the game. Those are very good reasons as well but I am fond of my stats. I find ways of working around the fact that Runescape is small and meaningless through better standalone PC games (Neverwinter Nights, Black & White, etc.). Perhaps you are right but I think you are far too wrong to be considered right. Jagex does all they can to keep their game clear of cheaters and make it enjoyable for all. If you really want to keep clear of Jagex's radar treat everyone you see as if they were the Gestapo (the secret police) and give everyone you see a smile. Sure you'll never be able to trust anyone but you'll also never be banned. In Summary: I do not agree with the poster entirely but I am indeed "trapped" by my stats as well although there are other reasons why I stay as well. I think his whole argument is far too conspiritorial and terribly biased because of recent events involving his account and Jagex staff. My advice is to move on because if you're willing to write that much about how you dislike the game and the staff you are obviously not wanting to come back so why not move on to something better? I would suggest Guild Wars as it's just purchasing the software and no Monthly fees. Also I'd like to commend him for his first post here not only being lengthy and intelligible but also a quitting post. Why join a forum just to say you're quitting is somewhat dubious. Perhaps he has friends or is really seeking attention, that very same attention he found nearly disgusting, the attention that a "famous" player of Runescape gets from the throngs of anonymous players out there. Edit: I just wanted to reply to some other messages here. What do you mean "tremendous character"? I'm pretty sure we all are on different levels of gameplay. Some spend a long amount of time on the game, others spend very little. You cannot say that Runescape is a physical addictant because it doesn't stimulate you so much that you form a dependency. The only real way to get "addicted" to the game is if the game acts as a substitue for something i.e. social contact, some kids might not have all too many friends and thus will rely on Runescape and the people on it to enjoy others company. The only way a GAME can "CONSUME" you is if you place it in front of other things in life. It's your own fault if you spend too much time on the game. You have no one to blame except for yourself. You knew that it was a game. Don't congratulate him on making a bunch of Matrix references and quoting Keanu Reeves. It's always been a game but you can take different meanings from games. For example playing Battleship can show that you have an understanding of your opponent and you know where they would place their ships. Playing Risk shows you are a tactician and can strategize a situation. Chess is also a strategic game it shows your skill for planning ahead. Now Runescape is harder to classify though. It has no actual end. But if anything the game shows a lot about you, do you PK, do you attack helpless people for the fun of it for the items dropped, do you not PK, do you get deeply involved with the quests? My point is a game may be a game but any one of them can tell something about you and it's not always just click or "You sunk my battleship". We all run the risk of being banned by logging in. You simply have to put your trust in Jagex for making correct decisions. Also remember that we do not hear stories about how you were not banned but only stories about how you ARE banned. It's more upsetting, when it happens some people are a ball of fury and waiting to vent just as our esteemed author is doing. Now this I like. There is only one thing that I can think of to answer his question. In basketball or in any sport you're pushing yourself physically. Now in Runescape that is impossible but you can push yourself in other ways. You can test your patience, try your skill at puzzles, defeat foes by knowing what exactly to bring, and anything involving the mind. Runescape is most assuredly nothing physical, instead it relies upon your mind, your ability to think through problems and work your way out of sticky situations. Anything we do can be considered pointless. Why the hell are we even living! Some faiths believe that there is nothing beyond the grave. We simply live our lives and then die, we are shuffled off the mortal coil, we cease to exist. So why do anything then? Why even go to school, to work, to a date? It won't help us since we're not going to exist after eighty or so years after our birth. For those of us who believe in a life after death and that we can only obtain it through prayer and good faith then why go to work? Why even strive for anything? Why not just live in the church and pray 24-7? It's not because you can't, it's not because you have obligations those can easily be dealt with. It's because WE ARE HUMANS, we want, we desire, we aspire. No matter where you go in the world people compete, people have needs and wants that they work toward to fufill. We suburbanites and other various sections of mankind who are given access to moderate housing and a middle-class income or above desire entertainment greatly. Those who surf these boards get a portion of it from Runescape. You(the author) seem to be A-OK with that which is good. But you quickly are angered by the fact that some people play competitively and can be wiped out instantly. We are human, we cheat, we lie, we steal, all in the name of being better than someone else. Those who moderate us, the ones who need to keep order, can only do their best to keep our fictional world as WE ALL KNOW IT TO BE safe. I think most of us would agree that we'd rather see a few people banned incorrectly than not a single cheater and scammer be banned. And as I stated above if I were wrongly banned I would move on. It is after all just a game and I can find better entertainment elsewhere. I would no longer have a ball and chain called my stats dragging me down to Runescape. Take this chance and leave! No one except the fools are "trapped" by Runescape. I simply do not want to move onto another game but I can easily stop playing it but I would not play a different MMORPG. That's all I wanted to say. I think I'm done here. Hopefully not everyone will be awe-struck by the Matrix references.

I can imagine people actually saying that around the globe

The Quest to Level 70 Magic
tefda replied to heart_of_ink's topic in BlogScape (Ongoing Progress Reports and Goals)
Your calculations are incorrect! :o You're just looking at it from your current level. Sooo... you'll actually have far less games than that when you level up your point value will increase as well. So basically, shoot for 800 and you won't get to 800 because you wont need to. That's what I love about Pest Control Math, just shoot for a goal and be pleasently surprised when you're only halfway there but you've completed the goal.
