  1. "Twice the performance for less than the Fastest ATI X800 XT Radeon card." Oh, so this card can render twice as much simultaneously as the x800XT can? How very interesting, especially considering benchmarks claim they are fairly close in performance. There is also the whole SLI part. Do the 6800 (non GT/Ultra) cards even support it at all? I would seriously advice against shopping for hardware on Ebay. To answer your questions: Whether you need an adapter or not depends on your monitor. There is a chance that the card requires extra power, but I see no reason to purchase such a cable until you have the actual card. Mainly because there are two different cables used for that purpose currently. EDIT: Oh, there was a picture attached. Nevermind the bottom half of my post then.
  2. In the future, wouldn't it be easier to simply post your computer specs when asking for advice? That way you can be sure to get the right components from the start. :/
  3. No, on both questions. There is no way to guarantee that a file is infection-free, regardless of whether you have downloaded it or not. It is also highly uncommon to make a keylogger uninstall itself when the file used to spread the infection is deleted, since it simply does not make sense.
  4. Because even if I was a millionare I could think of enough things I'd rather invest in than paying twice the price for not near twice the performance :P I do agree that there is no reason not to buy an SLI-board though, because there's always the chance that the support for it improves drastically the next year. Still, I wouldn't pay too much extra for the SLI-chipset over the Nf4U.
  5. Unforunately, that's not really the case. Every game you run and want enhanced performance in will need to be coded for SLI. This is far from the case today, and even when it is the performance gain does not reach near 80%. Not to mention it will still be an aged card, which means any new techniques (such as shaders) developed on newer lines of cards will not be available to you.
  6. I very much doubt SLI will ever be worth it. But yes, you can add another card later without needing to put any real thought into it now, as long as you have the Nforce4-SLI chipset. The cable you need should be included with the motherboard.
  7. You have the old classic PCI-interface only? Are you sure? :/ I'm not sure there are any new cards whatsoever to that platform, incluing the 6600GT. It's possible though. I guess you might have meant PCI-E though, even though you should always specify that. In that case, go with any 6600GT. The difference between brands is minimal. Before ordering, be sure to look up your motherboard and make sure it has the slot and space you need.

    NOD32

I use it. Mainly because it requires so little system resources and boots quickly, yet is still fairly efficient. I usually don't care if it can remove the virus as long as it detects it, allowing me to do it manually.
  9. I disagree. Socket 939 AMD64's, especially the latest Venice/San Diego cores, are very easy to overclock without generating massive amounts of heat. You can overclock these quite a lot with the standard fan that ships with the Boxed version of the processor. In fact, there's a chance that the Box-fan is actually better than the one the poster picked. As for Power Supply Units, you should be aware that wattage means very little. If you bough a Q-Tec 500W and a Tagan 300W, which would be more efficient? Difficult to say, but my money is on the Tagan. Go for a seperate PSU and pick one of a brand known for quality products. I have personally had trouble with horrible PSU's that shipped with cases, and it's not particularily entertaining. Also, I must say I see very little need for the VGA-cooler card. EDIT: For the record, a Power Supply Unit with higher wattage will not consume more power unless your computer uses more power.
  10. In my part of the world using violence to enforce the opinions of the minority on others is commonly refered to as "fascism". The testing of medication on animals saves hundreds of thousands of human lives. Human life carries a severely higher value than that of animals in my book. I can sleep very comfortably at night knowing animals are slaughtered for my benefit. The day there is a democratic decision made that testing on animals should be outlawed I am willing to accept that, should it ever happen. Until then, it would not be appropriate to post my opinion on those who would use violence and theft to make their opinion "matter". Those people simply do not deserve the priviledge of living in a modern democracy.
  11. Normally more programs equal more competition, which in turn equals higher quality. However, this is not the case with instant messaging. The more programs the less users will use any one program, and in the end this only hurts consumers.
  12. While installing RAM is possibly the easiest "addition" you can do to your computer, I'm not sure I would recomend it. The chance that you will damage components is small, but the risk exists. I would recomend that someone with previous experience of installing hardware is present when you do it.
  13. I fail to see the logic in letting a company patent a product they do not own. The legislation is what is at fault, not Apple.
  14. You don't learn a language from a website. Take classes in it.
  15. You shouldn't believe everything you hear. As for drinking several litres of soda every day, you should be aware that it will cause serious damage to your teeth. I didn't say "it might cause damage". Because it will. The effect is not noticable within a short time, but given time you will cause permanent damage to them. I know several people who suffer from this today, and they aren't particularly enthusiastic about soda any more.
  16. With that budget I would go for a Radeon 9800Pro or a Geforce 6600GT. The later is slightly more powerfull as well as slightly more expensive.
  17. Are you trying to install an operating system on it or just adding it as a storage drive? If you want to make Windows recognize it when you install Windows, you will need to insert a floppy with SATA-drivers provided by your motherboard manufacturer to make it recognize the controller. This does not apply to all motherboards, but to many.
  18. The difference in memory performance between 2x512 Dualchannel and 1x1024 Singlechannel is not very large on the AMD64 platform. Several articles have claimed the difference is around ~1%-2%.
  19. If you have a problem with what I post then I suggest you take it up with another administrator. If I have given you the idea that I care in the least about your opinion, then I appologize deeply for the missunderstanding. That does not change the fact that you are wrong, and that your experience is severely limited. Please see the example in the previous post. I don't know what to say, except congratulations. You have managed to make a fool out of yourself. Let's analyze what you told the program to do: Project 1: Rip a song where every second of music takes 192Kb. Project 2: Tip a song where every second of music takes between 192Kb and 224 Kb. Please tell me you weren't being serious? Of course you need to lower the minimum bitrate to archieve a lower filesize. I don't doubt that. The CD has a ~1000Kbps bitrate. Surely you weren't seriously expecting to archieve CD-quality with a fourth of that? That's up to you. What isn't up to you however is posting false information and fooling others into using technically inferior methos of compression. I will not let you do that, and hence I have made these posts. I am fully aware that not everyone knows everything. However, I expect those who do not know enough about something to prevent themselves from posting speculations that are far from true.
  20. In my opinion Porsches suck, because I crashed one into a tree. There's a difference between saying you have had problems with VBR and saying it sucks. The main difference being that the first is true and the second is bullshit. VBR is severely more space-efficient than CBR (Constant), and what do you think is the *only* reason people use MP3, as opposed to say, WAW, is? Space-efficiency. If you and your friends cannot get VBR to work well, then you and your friends are doing something wrong. There really isn't more to it than that. And for the record, semi-corrupt VBR's are just as playable as their CBR counterparts.
  21. In spy movies the protagonist drags the villain to the nearest fingerprint scanner to gain entry into the door ^_^ I didn't quite have that solution in mind ;P User scans his finger. Scanned image runs through one-way encryption. Encrypted image is sent to server. Server owner receives the image and saves it. Server owner sends the saved pictured to the authentication service of another server. Unless everyone uses different encryption (which is not going to happen, and which is not made easier by computers becoming faster and faster) it will be a major security issue. After all, you can use two passwords for two different sites, but you can't use two different fingerprints.
  22. In my opinion, fingerprints are something that is too easily to acquire to be used for security.
  23. The link does not work. It claims I do not have cookies enabled, which I obviously do since I'm typing a post on this forum.

    Now Playing?

People don't buy music they like, people buy music that other listens to, for some obscure reason. I'm currently playing: Iron Maiden - The Clansman, from the Virtual XI album. It's easily my favourite song of the album, which is considered one of Maidens worst by most. I disagree though, and having a new singer (Blaze Bayley) for a few albums is a refreshing change.
  25. Downloading copyrighted material is illegal, regardless of whether it's an American PC Program or a Japanese Cartoon. From a legal point of view there isn't even any such thing as "unlicensed anime". For that reason, I'm locking this. To answer the question however, there is to my knowledge no way to do this. It would take a lot of traffic/CPU to coordinate the transfer since otherwise you'd get massive checksum errors, and as far as I know there is no client which can do this.
