  1. 1400 US or so. The reason I didn't get a 3500+ is partly because I don't want to spend more on the computer than that, and partly because I intend to overclock it to match the performance of a 3500+.

I decided to get some slightly cheaper stuff than I originally planned. Any ideas/suggestions? EDIT: Since there were no protests, I've now ordered it. Now I get a new toy when I get home on tuesday :D
  3. No. However, by entering Safe Mode you will have access to an "Administrator" account that can be used to grant admin-rights to restricted accounts.
  4. There are two kinds of compression, lossy and lossless compression. Lossless compression work in the same way that ordinary non-audio/video compression does, it takes a bit more "effort" to open it, but the quality is the same in the end. FLAC is an example of lossless compression. Lossy compression on the other hand filters out detail in order to decrease the size. Most of time it filters away parts of the audio that you wouldn't notice, such as a quiet sound directly after a loud sound. MP3, WMA and AAC are examples of lossy compression. Lossy compression will decrease the sound quality considerably. You can convert a format to another one. Let's say you have a CD, and you decide to rip it into WAV. You now have CD-quality audio on your harddrive. You then decide to convert it into 192kbps MP3. You now have 192kbps MP3-quality audio on your harddrive, and you delete the WAV. Later you decide to convert it into 192kbs WMA audio. Will you then have 192kbps WMA-quality audio? No. Converting a lossy format into another lossy format will produce poor results. If you use several lossy codecs after another the sound will soon become "muddy". If you are dead set on using AAC, I must suggest ripping directly from the CD as this will improve quality without increasing filesize. However, I don't really see the point. If you're using MP3 already, just transcode it into MP3 with a lower bitrate. AAC is just another lossy codec, it's nothing special. Though, if you can't hear the difference in quality with your current equipment, I suppose it doesn't matter. Just figured I'd shed some light on codecs.
  5. A keylogger usually does not detect actual times you press a key on the keyboard, it detects when the computer tries to "use" the keystroke as input. Because of this the on-screen keyboard is pointless for this, as would a "hotkey" be.
  6. ii-words rock. /me goes to check other topicii.
  7. There was an article on a news website today that claimed he was in England illegaly, which would be a logical reason to run from cops.
  8. Since I haven't found anything that can't be removed manually with HJT I don't particularly see a need for another program. Blocking registry changes is handy, but there are many free programs out there for it already. Still, if anyone is looking to purchase a good all-in-one anti-spyware, I suppose it works.
  9. I believe the reason they aren't sold here is because it wouldn't be legal. I've heard someone mention whatever they use to color the Skittles being the cause to this "ban". Skittles suck though, but the problem is that they won't sell M&M's either because of it :(
  10. When they set out to brutally murder innocent law abiding citizens, thus forsaking the innocents right to life. Who is to decide what he "set out to do"? Should anyone suspected to be a terrorist be shot? When you hand out punnishments without a trial you risk just as many innocent lives as the terrorists do, you just justify it with "Homeland security". Orwell would spin in his grave. There is a massive difference between being forced to shot someone in defense of self/others and dismissing an individuals right to live due to a suspicion. The first is a necesary evil and the second is disgusting. I'm not implying in anyway that we should randomly shoot people who we suspect of terrorism, but none of us here were the policemen invlolved, so none of us know the full circumstances. Policemen in England are increasingly being tied down by massive amounts of "political red tape", and so for plain clothed policemen to shoot someone during a chase the situation must have been absolutely critical. Therefore i am ASSUMING that the person they were chasing was some kind of terrorist, or someone that intended to cause death and destruction. IF he was, and the likelihood is that he was otherwise the policemen wouldn't have shot him, then IMO he had forsaken all his civil liberties and human rights in attempting to cause death. Lethal force in this country is very rarely used, (particularly since firearms are not mandatory issue) so it is unlikely that it was some accidental shooting. Also when you run away from armed police officers carrying a suspicious rucksack onto a crowded tube what do you think his intention was? I would presume bad. It is quite possible that we know very little of what actually happened, and it is quite possible that he should have been shot. I even said that myself a few pages back in this post. However, that is quite difference from saying that a suspected terrorist has no rights, which is why I replied as I did. No one must ever be considered a convicted criminal without a trial, even less be killed for it. That is no less terrorism than bombing a bus. I do agree with you that shooting is sometimes necesary, but I do not agree that any unconvicted person loses his/her rights.
  11. Studying Law at Uppsala University would be neat.
  12. I don't have any problem with either.

  14. He wasn't running anymore, they already caught him. If that is the case, then he should indeed not have been shot. However, I'm a bit sceptical about that at the moment, regardless of what witnesses might be saying.
  15. If a suspected terrorist is running from the police and is believed to be carrying explosives, any necesary force should be used. This includes lethal force. It's not a matter of being emotional, it is simply a matter of putting the wellbeing of civilians in front of the wellbeing of a suspected terrorist. I'd be the first to argue that everyone is innocent until proven guilty, but some times it is not that simple. By not shooting him the police would have risked their own lives and they lives of others. Would that be right? Not in my opinion. When you run from armed policemen you know the risk you are taking. You are hiding something, and you are occasionally extremely dangerous. I fail to see why the policemen should have acted in any way differently.
  16. If shallowness is such a problem, I think you'd be better off creating restrictions on advertising rather than on games. Whether shallowness should be "prevented" or not is totally a matter of morals, it's hardly dangerous as such. Still, I'd be willing to accept that games create shallowness the day when there's not at least 3 semi-nude models per commercial break on television.
  17. That's part of the problem though. It's not just pixels anymore. The line between reality and computer-generated images is becoming increasingly blurred. I mean, look at where we were with computer game graphics 10 years ago. Think of where we'll be 10 years from now. Although, there is the possibility that we could hit a wall soon, and what we have now is as good as we'll get for a long while.. Would watching a movie containing violence and sex harm those under 18 years of age any more than a pixel-y game would? It doesn't really matter how advanced the graphics get, it still won't be real. It'll always be just a bunch of pixels.
  18. Attempting to restrict games based on age is pointless. I've never met anyone who wants a game but can't get it due to said restrictions, and hence it is completely meaningless. Feel free to print recomendations on the boxes, anything more than that is bleh. I was stopped trying to purchase Half-Life 2 last year due to being 17, when it was rated at 18. Sure, I managed to convince the people at the store that I was 18, but if that's not idiotic I don't know what is. I refuse to believe anyone will be negatively affected by playing a game, unless they are mentally ill to being with. In which case it'll still be bad when they are adults. I doubt anyone ever died from watching a few pixels have sex with their clothes on, except possibly from excessive laughter.
  19. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp ... 1384171495 A fairly basic 4-port router. I'm not sure if you want the computers to be able to access the internet at once, but it does that too. As for KVM-switches, I can't say I've had any real experience with those.
  20. If you had refused odds are they would have threwn it away. No one would have been any happier. Besides, fries rock.
  21. Pinnacle is unstable and is fairly limited. Simple, but not worth paying for IMO.
  22. I read an article about that keyboard a few days ago, and it does indeed look neat. Probably costs a fortune though, if it will ever be released.
  23. Fastening the motherboard directly to the case without those plastic stand offs can cause permanent damage to your motherboard. Chances are the manual that came with it mentions that :| And no, the chance that you will need a PSU with more than 300W is extremely small. There is also no way an x86 system with one or two processors would ever need more than 600W, assuming less than 20 harddrives and a vapochill or similar setups. However, wattage can be specified in different ways, either the maximum output or the average output. Hence no-name brand PSU's are quite likely to be trash, and thus a 600W PSU could be potentially be worse than a 250W one.
  24. Judging the system from screenshots is foolish to say the least. Seriously, how it actually looks is probably the least important concern. And yeah, nothing really new about the pictures since the beta/alpha/whatever has been out for quite a while.
