  1. I don't get it either. We're living in a more and more liberal society where people can express their views and opinions (without being flamed, hopefully ;)) and most of the time other people respect their opinions. The old views on things like homosexuality are outdated now - it shouldn't be taboo, like I said, and they shouldn't be discriminated against like how they are being. The old "You're different from us! DISCRIMINATE!!!" views shouldn't apply anymore. And I agree, us humans today are quite clearly not God. We're out there starting wars and using child warriors and being greedy, so we sure as hell aren't God. And to be perfectly honest, I don't see my God casting people out into hell just because they were homosexual. If homosexuality were a sin (which I personally don't think it is), God would forgive them. Of course, as a Christian, I do have a bit of duty to follow what the Church tells us to do. I don't have a definite opinion on how 'officially from God' some of the Church's teachings are, or how 'officially true' the Bible is, because to be perfectly honest, I believe those sorts of things. I definitely agree with what you said earlier though: the Bible should be used for the message of salvation. That's the core of it all anyway, isn't it?
  2. I'm Catholic, but I have absolutely no problem with homosexuals at all. Does that make me not-quite-Catholic because I don't conform to all their beliefs, even though I go to church every Sunday, pray, believe in Jesus, etc etc? I have a few bisexual/homosexual friends at school, and I hear them getting talked about and/or indirectly discriminated against, and I get pretty miffed when I hear my friends talking about the bi friends like that. I don't see why they're not 'fully human'. They're people, they just like different things, just like I don't like, oh, salt and vinegar chips, and other people absolutely love them. Granted, the potato chip flavour analogy wasn't the best, but hopefully you get my meaning: you can't blame people on who they are. It's similar to, in my opinion, the discrimination against people of different race. Discrimination against homosexuals, I think, is wrong. My parents and I often get into short-lived debates about this sort of thing - they're Catholic themselves, so they have the whole 'homosexuality is wrong' mindset. I'm quite often the one saying something along the lines of "let them be who they want to be". Is it odd for me to think this as a Catholic? I like to think I'm a very open-minded Catholic - I don't mind homosexuals; if people want to have sex before marriage, more power to them; if they don't believe in God, or are of a different religion, go right ahead. Because that's who people are and those are the choices they make. I personally wouldn't have sex before marriage: I'd like to think that I'm saving myself for that someone special. If the guy I marry wants to have sex before marriage, then he's gonna have to wait and respect my wishes, and he should if he really cares for me. I have no problem with homosexuals. If they want to be with people of the same sex, go right ahead. If those are the kind of people you're attracted to, why then does anyone else have a say in it? How do they know who you're attracted to? They don't, and that's why I think it's a bit unfair for Christianity to discriminate against them like this. I'm a pretty devout Christian and all, but that's just unfair. I think that when Jesus said something along the lines of "God loves everyone", he meant it - why then, do those who follow him not show the same respect to those who are homosexuals? It's not wrong, it's not right. It's who we are, and if who we are is homosexual, who are we, or anyone else, to try and change that? I can't change the fact that I'm female, I can't change the fact that I'm Asian, and I can't change the fact that I'm me. EDIT: Yikes, I went on a rant, didn't I? ><
  3. My main's name, Faelenof, is quite simply made up. :P Used to be a protagonist in an abandoned novel of mine, thought it sounded cool, and so here I am. I just know I detest numbers in names. :D But, my not-really-used-pure is Faelsafe, a name I actually adore: one, because it implies my main, and two, because it sounds the same as the word 'failsafe', which is a "secondary system that insures continued operation even if the primary system fails" (quoted from dictionary.reference.com). I made it simply so that if Faelenof gets banned/whatever, I've got something to fall back on, which is the meaning of a 'failsafe'. :D (though admittedly it's not much to fall back to. :P)
  4. Not bad. Could do with a less of a harsh change from the white on it's back to the black/grey on it's main body. Seems a bit overdithered, as Bam said, and could use less of the rough texturing dithering creates. Hrmm... what else... Large empty space on either side is bugging me, but thank you for not copypasting your clouds. The water looks very odd, especially when you have that very unsaturated blue for the ocean and the bluer-blue (yes, this definitely makes sense :P) of the splash where the dolphin emerges from the water. I also am a little bit concerned about the horizon - but then, I always nitpick horizons for not being flat; wobbly ones just really get on my nerves, sorry. >< Although if you make it flat, the background could be a tad boring. The border colour is not my favourite for this piece, but Not bad overall.
  5. To be honest, I liked it the simplistic way it was before. :uhh: The background is over-spraycanned, it doesn't look like water so much as a whole bunch of dots. :( Text leaves something to be desired as well. It had a certain style to it in the original version, but the background killed it. :| (anyway, good job with the dolphin itself, I'll stop talking about the background now and just say the only iffy bit I've got with the dolphin is the tail size, which seems a tad too big.)
  6. Great moon, as mentioned above. Excellent texturing on the moon, also. I'd like to see the update when you get to it. ^^ Just a few crits: - Don't really like the [bleep]y bits (a blue that's a tad lighter than the ring of dark blue around the moon) on the outside of the moon, especially where it's so noticable on the right side. It looks like you were going for the 'glow' effect, but it looks very odd. :| - Trees are a little rounded as well, especially the one on the middle-right. Maybe make them less rounded and a teensy bit more [bleep]y? - Won't crit on the foreground, but the linework looks good - someone before mentioned the left hand, but hopefully you'll fix that up. At the moment it looks like she's got webbed fingers. :o Overall, a refreshing change from the current quality of pixels posted here. :) Thank you very much for posting this. Do it justice and make the foreground great. :D
  7. From what I know, he used to - he doesn't anymore. I'd offer to do it, but I'm terribly busy nowadays and the scene doesn't spark my interest. :| Sorry. Best of luck finding someone. :)
  8. Love it. :D I've got a bit of a panorama thing, and I reckon this one's pretty well made. I'm no photographer, so I won't be able to say much on the technical side of things. :P It's a great photo, I can't see any major faults (ie, where one photo stops/starts). Yay for new cameras. ^^
  9. *cracks knuckles* Alrighty, here I go. First of all, good effort for a first pixel! :D As said before, the random scribbling = no no, unless it's on things that have that sort of texture. Unless that robe is really that crinkled, it's best to use a different shading technique than random scribbles. I did it myself on my first couple of pixels, but my suggestion is to experiment around with different shading and texturing techniques. :) I quite like the ice'd guy in the background, good effect. I think you could tone down the white lines a little, though - they seem a little too white to me, but that's probably me nitpicking. :P Greater demon is quite scarily deformed back there. :| (unless again, that's just me being picky) As pointed out, lava is a little... odd. *digs out very first pixel* (disclaimer: this is a very old pixel, please don't c/c it... actually, if you want to have c/c'ing practise, go ahead - it might help you out with your own pixelling if you can find flaws in pixels. :D) Anyway, as you can see here, lava shouldn't be randomly scribbled like that. I think I could have used with a yellowish shade in there, actually. (I'm not saying my pixel is the only way to shade lava, of course - each to their own. :)) Left arm seems odd - maybe a bit thin. Face doesn't seem shaded, looks very flat. Sky is a little dull. :| Anyway, you are well on your way into pixeldom. :) Work on it, try new, original scenes, new shading and colouring techniques, read up on a few tutorials, zoom in on more accomplished pixeller's signatures to see what they did and see if it looks good (but don't rip! :o). Best of luck! :D
  10. Thanks everyone. :D *ego boost* :P I also have to say I like ThruItAll's avatar - didn't Reddawn make that for you? LP is great also. *agrees* And on the Metroid subject... I was definitely disappointed as well, I thought 'his' art was absolutely amazing. :| How come we don't see as much from you anymore, Nadril? :( I liked your stuff too. :)
  11. In my opinion, CC is way more useful than ratings. Ratings dont help you in any way, it doesnt help you improve on anything. Maybe you feel good about a nice rating for a few seconds, but thats all. Please read the CC that has been given to you, and try to do something with it. Woopidoo has the right of it. Ratings are ego boosts. I liked ego boosts myself when I started out pixelling, and I asked for ratings. Then it dawned on me that replies like "very good" or "9/10 good job" don't actually tell you anything. I didn't want to just be told some number that anyone can throw at me. So, ok, I got a 9... but how can I get a 10? Well... I don't know, because all anyone told me was "9/10 good job". (not meaning offense to people that did say this) Comments and criticisms are the things that help you get those 10s. Rik was giving you great criticisms, and if you want your art to be seriously considered here then listening and taking on board crits is the best way to go about it. Granted, as you said, you're satisfied with your piece, and that's all that matters. I agree with that. But when you come to The Gallery with an image, Gallery vets will crit it to the best of their ability in order to help you improve. I won't give you a rating - it's not what I do. ;) I think it's alright. Not good, not amazing, it's alright. I don't want to repeat everyone else's C/C because I think they've covered everything. My advice? Check out some pixelling tutorials and anatomy sites. There is little to no shading there, odd anatomy and a rushed background. Check out the tuts, they help. A lot. (really) Sorry for the lecture - it's a reflex when I see people who refuse perfectly good help that took time to type out.
  12. I think this is a brilliant update, overdue but it's well worth it. :) Someone before said something along the lines of joining channels by typing in the clan name - I see some problems in that. What happens if someone who isn't in the clan steals the clan name? I think this is a better way of doing it. Allow the leader to create the channel. Great job, Jagex. Great job.
  13. I've gotten up to 15 ranarrs once, and a shocking 30 sweetcorn, if my memory serves. I use supercompost and magic secateurs, of course. :)
  14. [hide]Actually the cover is when they are in the vault. You can see behind harry there is creature that is holding the sword, and the jewelery all around him is very bright, almost like it is hot.[/hide] [hide]I'm sure it depends on where you bought it - the American versio has the Great Hall battle scene, and the UK children's version has the Gringotts scene. :)[/hide]
  15. Amazing book. Easily my favourite out of all of them. Note to everyone - please remember to put spoilers under cuts... this girl who was sitting at the bus stop after I got it almost spoiled it for me - luckily I shoved my headphones on in time. X_X EDIT: Took out spoiler... everyone clicks those. o_o
  16. Supercute. You win. <3 EDIT: Oh, right, crits... erm... uhm... nothing from me, I can't get over how cute it is. >< It's a great pixel, good effort. How long did it take you?
  17. Polled it up for you. :) Good luck all! *casts vote*
  18. Actually, I always thought that the Earth was too large for us normal human beings to distinguish an actual curve. We'd always see it as a straight line, as our sight is too narrow to perceive the actual curve of the Earth. Have a look at pictures and stuff of horizons that aren't blocked by trees, hills, etc. It's a line. It looks a lot neater with just a line than a curve, in my opinion, anyway. Anyway, I reckon the top one is better - it's got more shape as an ocean, like Ville said. The bottom one just looks like random lines to me. :| Both could do with a little more depth in the water, though. Ie, more shades, etc. It would be nice to have something else in the image too. :) Good luck, mate. :D Have a read through tutorials and stuff - I myself still read through them at times and still manage to learn something new. ^^
  19. Please post all RS related screenshots in the Post all RS related screen shots here please sticky in the General forum. Thanks, :) - Faelenof, Tip.It Forum Moderator
  20. Good luck, mate. :D (P.S., Your hawt signature brought me here so you can thank that. )
  21. Moved it for you. ;) - Faelenof, Tip.It Forum Moderator
  22. Love your new one, Ard. :D I can't believe you can make this sort of thing in GIMP; I can't stand the program and it keeps blowing up on me. :( (P.S., I saw you on 9th Wonders... haha, I recognised your sig. >< I absolutely adore Heroes. Cheers for the news on the next mini-series, though it's probably gonna come out several months late for us here. :()
  23. Sadly. :( Anyway, I love your wallpapers, they're easily some of the best ones on this forum - I might steal one to use for my desktop when I get sick of mine... You really like those hearts, don't you? ;) Your "Roots of Emotion" one (the one in your dA gallery) is fantastic (I have a feeling I've said that before... :anxious: ).
  24. Just here to give you a bit of news: Jagex is doing something about this bot problem. Don't believe me? Here's some numbers given to me by a Jagex Mod in ICU, the team that deals with Real World Item Trading: That's only in that week. In seven days, they banned over 15 000 accounts because of our macro problem - so we can't say that they're not doing anything, because they most definitely are. I also know that almost every day (at least several times a week), real Jagex mods are going out there and hitting the bot hotspots in bot-busting sessions. They're going out there and banning them right before your eyes (I myself saw one just... disappear, right in the middle of a swing at a yew tree. It was really weird. :P). They're hitting the yew trees in south Falador, they're hitting the green dragon macros, and, from what I hear, they've just hit the fishing bots at Catherby. They're doing something. You may not consider it a lot in the large scope of things, but Jagex are most definitely trying to combat this problem.
  25. Congrats again, xman. :D Can we please post all further congratulations and stuff in the actual topic for the image, which is here in the Gallery? :) Thanks everyone, - Faelenof, Tip.It Forum Moderator
