[hide=Massive Quote] Link I'll just explain a few, because most are selft explanatory. Of course, anger and rage, and violence due to it can affect family members who the post-abortion woman takes this anger out on. Please tell me you know how suicide and feelings relating to it can greatly affect family members and friends in an emotional way. [/hide] But those results are from only 260 women in the world. Not everyone who gets an abortion will feel those affects. In fact, when you're looking at only 260 people, I personally don't really think you can use those statistics to argue that most of the people in the world would feel those affects. I know several people who have gotten abortions and none of them have displayed any such side affects. And you have to keep in mind that those 260 women were not random women who had received abortions. From the website: That means that all 260 of those women were already having problems after abortion. If the survey was repeated with 260 RANDOM women who received an abortion, rather than 260 women who were seeking post-abortion counseling, I'm sure the statistics would be much lower. 1 and 5 are the same situation. You should say if you're stupid enough to have sex before you're ready for a kid, it is your fault. Here it is not ok. I agree with the middle 3 though. Some people think that murder is wrong, but some don't. Does that make it right? Oh wait, bad example, because I'm comparing abortion to murder, which the two shouldn't be compared, even though abortion is just killing a baby... I think the point is that some people do not consider a fetus a "baby" because up until a certain point it is completely dependent on the mother for survival. Not everyone considers abortion as murder.

What do you mean by that? If a man and woman both agree to abort, how does that decision negatively affect other people? And for the record, I do think that a woman needs to discuss abortion with the "father" and he should definitely have a say. But in the end, I do think that the woman has the right to make the final decision, but the man's opinion should certainly be taken into account.
  3. Even if this particular suggestion is really far away from being needed? The threads grow to around 6 or 7 pages, so that says something about the interest in them. There's about 4 or 6 suggestions on this page and the second page which in my mind should be put ahead of this in terms of 'not needed'. Just because you're sick of a particular (and extremely valid) reason doesn't mean it should randomly pop up and be done. I'm going along with it because so far, a lot of the people in this thread seem to like the idea, so I don't see why we absolutely should not give it a try. Now if this involved hours of coding, I would never suggest giving it a try. But it takes all of like two seconds to create a subforum and assign the permissions.

I've never heard of a situation where a man wanted a child so bad that he raped a woman, then waited nine months for her to give birth so he could run off with the child. And even so, how is it justifiable when he could bring happiness to an orphaned/abandoned child by adopting one, rather than commit a terrible crime?

I'm pro-choice all the way. I see abortions as a personal decision, and I do not think that the government should interfere with personal decisions. If abortion was made illegal, it would still take place but under much more dangerous conditions. Since it would be done illegally, women would be forced to have it be done by people who may not be qualified to do it and have it be done in an unsanitary/unsafe environment, etc. I wasn't done writing, but I previewed my post and Killerred005 had made a reply, which pretty much says everything that I was going to say anyway :P
  6. I do think that economy-related discussions are more than just a phase, because I have seen them continuously pop up, rather than just suddenly show up in large amounts and then disappear. I really am not a fan of separating discussions, since General Discussion seems to be going along just fine, but I am rather sick of shooting down almost every idea because it's "not needed." Maybe it would be better to try things out once in a while, even if they aren't needed. If they prove to be unsuccessful, undo the changes, as simple as that.
  7. I don't really think it's NEEDED, but I don't see any harm in giving it a go to see how it works out.
  8. Because discussing gives us something to do while we wait for an admin to comment :P Kind of frustrating that none have shown up to say anything about this (other than Kill_Life, whose comment didn't really apply to what I was saying). And I did say that just getting rid of the rating all together was fine too.
  9. Ditching the film rating is fine by me.. or do we even need a "rating" at all? Our rules are clearly laid out, so the rating is pretty much just there for cosmetic purposes, I guess.. or a way to generalize our rules, which isn't really necessary either.
  10. Pretty much the opposite for me :ohnoes: My first three years of high school I had seven classes. Now in my senior year, it has finally been cut down to four! It was definitely a good call getting all my graduation requirements met ASAP because now I get to enjoy the "two free period-life:" Mondays Start: 8:15 am Physical Geography (gardening) Calculus Break (10m) English: Race, Class, Gender Robotics Computer Science Finish: 12:30 pm Tuesdays Start: 7:50 am Calculus English: Race, Class, Gender Break (30m) Robotics Finish: 11:40 am Wednesdays Start: 7:50 am Computer Science Physical Geography (gardening) Espacio ("prayer/thought" period - 30m) Break (30m) English: Race, Class, Gender Lunch (35m) Robotics Finish: 1:50 pm Thursdays Start: 9:00 am Computer Science Assembly (30m) Break (30m) Calculus Lunch (35m) Physical Geography (gardening) Finish: 1:50 pm Friday Start: 8:15 Robotics (Free) Break (10m) (Free) Computer Science Physical Geography (gardening) Lunch (35m) Calculus English: Race, Gender, Class -- Love my schedule :P
  11. Speaking of allergies, I remember hearing research that suggests people who live with a pet are less likely to develop one. http://www.nih.gov/news/pr/aug2002/niaid-27.htm Anyway, I'm a dog person. Never had a cat, though. Yep I read a similar article a few months ago. Thanks for providing your link - very interesting read :) If you live with animals when you're younger you are less likely to develop them. However, allergies can be strange things... some people never live with animals and never develop allergies, while others can live with their cat for nine years and then suddenly develop them. I love it when my cat does something completely ridiculous and then gives me a look that says, "What are you looking at me for? I didn't do anything." It is definitely unfortunate that you have had to base your opinion of dogs off of the dog described above. I can definitely see how that would put you off of dogs. -- It is sad/interesting to see the vast amount of stereotypes being displayed in this thread. Cats and dogs are a lot like people: they are all different and unique. There are dogs who help people by aiding them in hunting, dogs who bark at any sign of movement, dogs who sleep 80% of the day, dogs who wouldn't bark if you asked them to, dogs who would dodge in front of a bullet for you, dogs who would whimper under the table at any sign of an intruder, dogs who would play with their owner all day, dogs who would rather be on their own... then there are cats who are used to chase mice/rats out of barns, cats who seize every opportunity to play with their owner, cats who would rather sleep and clean themselves all day, cats who do not like attention/affection at all and hiss/claw when people get near, cats who follow their owners all around the house and rub up against their leg whenever they can, cats who are terrified of dogs, cats who love dogs and can be found snuggling with them, etc. etc. Please people.. do NOT buy into stereotypes (of any kind, really). They're almost always untrue generalizations that emphasize the bad qualities of a certain animal.
  12. I'm not suggesting loosening up the rules whatsoever. I'm simply saying that PG-13 is a more appropriate label for the current rules, censor and level of leniency. The forum we have now is not G, even if the Staff choose to label it as such. I think PG would be more appropriate. The stigmata surrounding PG-13 would lead users to believe that they could start posting more controversial things like the "NSFW" fad in the Off Topic forum a few months ago. PG covers the words that mlbfan was posting according to MPAA standards :P. Just remember that the standards for behavior that you might have are not shared with a large part of this community. I think many TIF users have proved that they are not ready for "adult" discussion. Yeah PG or PG-13 is fine with me. PG-13 does sound like it would allow much more risque material, but the reason I suggested it is because when you consider the MEANING of PG-13, it fits with our forum registration rules. PG-13 suggests parental guidance to view the material if you are under the age of 13. If you are 13 or over, you are capable of viewing the material on our own. Now you have to be 13 to register to Tip.it in the first place, and I highly doubt that any 13+ year olds are sitting here with their parents browsing Tip.it. So the idea is that the content is suitable enough for anyone over the age of 13 to view it without their parents. Now I know many people have said that, "Tip.it is not a film and therefore we shouldn't fuss too much over the rating," etc. etc. Well as long as we have a film rating title, I see no reason why we shouldn't treat the rating of Tip.it like a film. Since this is not a movie, we cannot determine whether or not Tip.it "shows" nudity, sex, or drugs. While we do not permit the promotion of drugs and other illegal substances or activities, there are still discussions ABOUT them in Off-Topic (questioning the justification for the illegality of certain substances, etc.). There are discussions that contain sexual references, drug references, violence references and other inappropriate content. If you read the last lines of the G-rating description, you will notice that Tip.it does not coincide with that requirement. This is starting to sound a little more like Tip.it, which allows brief sexual discussions (general APPROPRIATE sex-related topics, boyfriends/girlfriends/flirting, minimal violence, etc.). Some of the above guidelines may be a bit over-the-top for Tip.it's current rules, but to me the relationship between the recommended age of 13 in films and with Tip.it makes perfect sense. Perhaps with the new "Project Off-Topic" or whatever, a PG rating is more appropriate. Before then (with the "Mature Content" topics and such), I would strongly push for a PG-13 rating. But now that the "project" is in place, PG is in fact probably more realistic. Again, I am not suggesting that we change any rules, regulations or moderation policies. I am simply stating that our current label of a G-rating does not coincide with the level leniency exercised by the moderators and our rules. And again, I realize that Tip.it is not a movie. But as long as we hold the same rating that is given to movies, I don't see why we cannot treat Tip.it as a movie. The fact of the matter is that Tip.it is NOT for all audiences, as the G-rating suggests. Starting with even the registration process, we eliminate a whole group of people from participating in the forum (people under the age of 13). And looking at our rules and Off-Topic, those are not suitable for all audiences either (discussions about drugs, alcohol, sex [all mild discussions, but they take place nonetheless], the swear words that we allow, etc.). I don't see a point in Tip.it maintaining the whole, "Appropriate for all audiences" appearance when we don't even allow 'all audiences' to register in the first place (children under the age of 13).
  13. This has been chewed over multiple times and I still disagree with it. Tip.it has always been a very open, welcoming, unrestricted forum.. meaning that we have NO post count requirements on any forum. I do recall RSC having post count requirements in specific forums such as their art-related forum and possibly their Off-Topic forum (and maybe a few others). I remember registering on RSC a few years ago and after realizing that I wouldn't be able to post in the forums I was interested in until I posted elsewhere 50 times, I thought, "Okay screw this..." and never came back. Of all things, having post count requirements in certain forums would encourage spamming from users who would not normally spam or discourage users from registering at all. The whole community should not be punished because of spammers.
  14. Not all dogs do that ;) Heck, not all dogs even bark. And while my cat doesn't wake me up in the middle of the night by barking, he does like waking me up by sitting on my head or jumping on my desk and knocking something off
  15. I think it sounds great. The only thing I can't stress enough is how much the moderators will need to stay on top of their new tasks (for both your sakes and the users' sakes). This new arrangement will require the moderators to do a lot of reading, assessing and interacting with users. Please make sure that you guys are up to the job before implementing anything.
  16. I really don't see the big deal. People just say it because they don't think about it, they don't care to make the correction, it's easier to just say "Johnny," or whatever. As long as the person is still living with their family and sharing the benefits of being wealthy (living in a nice house, enjoying nice "things," going on nice vacations, whatever), then they are living a wealthy life and therefore can share part of that title because wealth is still apart of them. But if "Johnny" is now out of college and living on his own, then it is pretty silly (and some may call it incorrect) to say that Johnny is rich when really he's not the one living in the big house, experiencing the wealthy life, etc (but is parents are).
  17. To the people who have complained about allergies: Don't lose hope just because you're allergic. You can live perfectly happily with animals despite your allergies.. in fact, I forget the exact statistic, but most people who love animals and have some sort of allergy live with pets anyway. There are many solutions such as: taking simple allergy medication once a day every day (Claritin, Zyrtec, and a few others), rubbing Allergy Relief formulas on your animal's fur once a week, getting allergy shots, or simply cleaning your house more often (leave the windows open to get a good air flow, keep your house clean, vacuum regularly, etc.). The solution that works best for you depends on the animal (how much dander they produce, how often they lick/clean themselves, and sometimes the breed) and the severity of your allergies.
  18. I'm not one of those "love one, hate the other" kind of people, but I definitely prefer dogs. I have owned both and while my current cat is very dog-like (in the sense that he always wants to be around me and is very affectionate), I find dogs to be much more affectionate, loyal, etc. Cats can be a lot of fun, but from my observations they are far more independent than dogs and therefore can often go unnoticed.
  19. I honestly never thought we needed the "Tipit Homeworlds" sticky.. I mean there is already one in the Announcements forum (viewtopic.php?f=6&t=380581). If any of your suggested topics are destickied, I would recommend making an index and stickying that. That way people will always be able to find those threads (we all know the Search function isn't the best), and moderators will have a quick reference to it, in the event that they need to lock a thread that should be in a pre-existing one. And I really think that "Clan Chat Directory" and "Almost Got Scammed?" can just be removed.
  20. I'm offended by this because I can't post some of things I see on /b/ because of the "G" rating. For the record, I completely disagree with that reasoning. My argument is not that the rating should be changed in order to allow more "mature content," but that our current rules do not match our G-rating.
  21. I had bats living in the walls/basement of my house for a while :ohnoes: Sometimes they'd get inside and fly around our rooms and other times they'd end up on the floor and we'd unknowingly step on them... We finally managed to get the bats out and prevent them from coming back in, but now they continue to fly AROUND our house. Sometimes while I'm sitting at my computer at dusk, a bat will cling onto my screen door that leads out onto my deck (which is about 1 foot to the left of my computer chair) and freak me out. Despite their uncanny ability to terrify me, they can be kind of cute
  22. Thanks :) Maybe I'm being anal but capitalizing the options would be nice :ohnoes:
  23. I would recommend sending in an account problem report: account_problem.php Use the option "Other Login Problem" and request that your password be reset. And while we're on the subject, a techie needs to look into this resetting password problem. It hasn't been working for me either (and several other users) so there's clearly a problem with the system.
  24. I figured there should be one since there was one for the TIF style.
  25. "TIFBlack"?!?!?!? Do you mean it is already part of the forum??? :o (If so, tell me so I can check it out!) ~D. V. Devnull It's been apart of the forum for maybe a week now I think? I'm surprised there wasn't an announcement - there probably should have been.. I'm wondering how many other people haven't realized it yet :-k
