  1. On my desktop I am currently having a problem connecting to the internet. It connects to the internet through a networking cable, through a port on a wireless router. First, I have tried plugging a laptop into the cord so it is not a hardware problem, it is an internal settings problem. In the network manager, the computer says it is connected to the network but no packets are being sent over the network. Through talking with some one who knew quite a bit about computers, we found that the problem was that if you go to internet explorer - tools - internet options - lan settings a box labeled "use automatic configuration script" is checked, with the field entered as (along with other things) localhost:0. he explained I should uncheck this box, and check "automatically detect settings" as "localhost:0" would make the computer connect to itself. However the problem lies here. whenever I try to uncheck the box and check "automatically detect settings", as soon as I close the box, the computer reverts back to the old settings, and I still have no connection. Do any of you know how I can keep this box unchecked, or what could be holding it like that? For clarification, this is what I have been told is the problem box:
  2. no problem with it, the computers are exactly the same. just make up a buessness name.
  3. Well I would say that it would be more effective to buy a new laptop then try to upgrade that one, as 1 gig of ram will not let you run games on a Pentium 3 with integrated graphics. It might help speed a little, but that processor is going to bottleneck things.
  4. bottom line, Integrated = bad all integrated graphics are is software that uses the processor to create graphics. If you get an integrated graphics card, it will eat up 70% of the processors power alone, making even old games nearly impossible to play. Intagrated graphics are Low end ONLY. they are not made for any gaming whatsoever, and you will not be able to game with them at all.
  5. Well, both of those parts would work and be a nice upgrade to your current specs. that should get you everything you need.
  6. Its probably legal if you paid for it, otherwise its probably not.
  7. Ok, sure, try this thread: http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=663433 ideas? look through there for guidance, ride it out, and it'll all end up ok.
  8. You have been through a lot bubsa! wow, for awhile there life must have seemed pretty hopeless, but you got through it, and you are better now. As said before, we should post links to this thread in the threads talking about peoples stupid problems.
  9. with a Pentium m 1.8 ghz and 512 megs of ram I only hit 40% usage in most cases, so you might have other processes running in the background that are eating up power.
  10. Go on the internet, type school papers, play runescape but that is the best deal out there. If you really looked you might be able to find a laptop from some no name brand for like 50$ cheaper, but dell is a good brand and their computers are fairly reliable, so I would go with that.
  11. That was near me, I saw it on the news. going 50MPH down a road stuck to the front of a semi would be really scary, yet fun at the same time. at least its better gas mileage then driving yourself :D
  12. I would say victor, rebdragon or nadril. All of them have been very active lately, and they make up a good portion of the interesting debates in this forum.
  13. Alfy the cat. She is a japaneese bobtail.
  14. Well having a santa scared the crap out of me, because If you look around the forums there is stories all around about people who got rares out of the bank to show their friends, or to alch in and they lagged out and were attacked by an evil chicken or somthing. That Is why I rarely, If ever wear it in public. That and the constant N00bs asking for money when your on the free worlds.
  15. in terms of price, the mud battlestaff fits the price point of the whip and the expected eventual price point of the whip.
  16. thats what Im thinking. Vista IS a better operating system, and if you want to play any games ~ 1 year from now you will need it, as its the only operating system with dx10. if you buy xp, you will just end up with having to upgrade for about $100 a year or 2 down the road. Bottom line: get vista as far as hardware, dell's crash no more then HP's do, all of those claims stem from one bad part put in their computers a few years ago that caused many many problems. Both manufacturers use the exact same hardware, in most cases.
  17. so you want a small form factor case, a c2d processor, and another gig of ram? will you be using your old monitor or getting a new one? and is the memory ddr2 on your computer and what speed is it? finally will you be willing to overclock the processor? if you do that you can generally lop of $80 off the price of the processor and clocking it up, as a low and high clocked c2d the only difference is a software setting, the chips themselves are physically the same.
  18. well it depends on what you want to do. For regular collage related work, that will be fine however for games I would wait a few months until the 8 series laptop cards come out on dells. as far as portability, A 17 inch screen is not ideal, but thats all personal preference.

Putin is just trying to act tough because it gets him better ratings in the polls. the system is effective in shooting down up to 5 missiles, but the 6000+ russia has would overwhelm the system. the interceptor missiles themselves have no warhead aboard, just an aluminum block. they are designed to hit a missile and break it up, not explode it. as far as kill rates, the missiles are about 90% ~ effective in tests.
  20. blade is correct. the 1950 is faster but neither are "future proof" as they are both dx9 cards, so if you are going to get a new computer sometime in the next year, these will be fine.
  21. Dell XPS is their high end computer models. they start at ~ 1000$ and are usually more gamer oriented.
  22. It all depends on who you like better. personally I like dell and I have never had a problem with them, but some people feel just the same about hp. The only real advantage hp has over dell right now is that their laptop cases are better looking, which itself is only true on the non - xps models.
  23. zune sales - 100k ipod sales - 100 million + the Ipod wins. The biggest thing the Ipod has going for it is that it's music store is MUCH MUCH better then anything out there, and those songs can only be played on an ipod. The screen size of an Ipod is 2.5 inches, but the resolution is the same as the zune.
  24. lets start a quote tree with tmottbg's great comment!
