  1. The Duke has now run out of money, thus gives no options. No more free exp :(
  2. For the urn task, you must use differrent types of urn. You can use the same skill (ie: decorated and cracked cooking), but you can't use two of the exact same type.
  3. If they bring to life the animation of Yelps being punched, I'm sure they'll sell plenty of spins.
  4. First time doing sinkholes. Was actually quite enjoyable.
  5. Todays challenge: find 10 items from drop parties in the Fally party room. Let the games begin! EDIT: W99 had a lot of people but the lag wasn't too bad for me. Also had a LOT of drops. There were always balloons falling. Even with my bad mouse I finished in ~5 mins.
  6. That's the problem. As far as I know, no one has kept track of population over the long term. Therefore we can't find the background rate of decline, instant decline after bot nukes, and gradual decline after 'bad' updates. EDIT: On this topic. I know Tipit had a member number counter on the beta website a while back. Is this still running? If so, can a website crew member recover past data (only showed like the past 7 days or something)?
  7. Bot numbers are down because: - Massive redistribution of wealth to the top few players through gambling facilitated the need to redistribute that wealth back to the masses. This drove many goldfarming operations to switch from producing and selling gold to becoming gold resellers. Thus, less need for bots. - Botwatch. If you take a look at botting forums, it's packed with people wanting to bot. It's also packed with people being banned for botting. Many people on a certain bot site now assume the bot client is detectable by Jagex simply because of the astonishing ban rates since botwatch was fully rolled out. - The EOC actually did nothing to bots because bot developers were in the Beta. Yes, no one is debating the fact that active players are lowering (and thus membership and online follows). We know this. Jagex knows this. But you can not claim that it was sped up by EOC without relevant data. That's my entire argument here - that you are drawing conclusions based on at best circumstantial evidence, and at worst no evidence at all. True, but my problem is when you start saying things like: which is essentially claiming that your opinion is the correct one.
  8. So far as I can tell we only have 2 solid data points. 1m subscribers in 2007 and 575k today. But even those data points are flawed because they fail to describe how many of those are bots. The number of bots has fluctuated wildly for the better part of the games existence and, since jagex really has never given their own internal numbers, we're forced to guess how much of the decline is bot based. Then we're forced to guess what the "background rate of decline" is (jagex has confirmed that there was a noticeable slow and steady decline from 2008-2012). Essentially, there is far too much suggestive guessing to say whether or not the EOC was a major source of decline.
  9. I don't really thing you can say EOC was a wrong move with such certainty as it's entirely based on opinion whether or not you like it. I personally had been calling on Jagex to revamp combat for years so I welcomed EOC. Many people wanted to take combat back to "the old days" so they disliked it. The only ones qualified to say whether EOC was positive or negative would be Jagex, basing their judgement on their own internal data of players coming in, leaving, etc. We simply do not have the means to determine just how much of the decline in the past year has been due to EOC related quitters.
  10. I'm curious why you think that. He is the lead developer of one of the most known 'classic' MMOs out there. Sure, some of the updates he has engineered has caused some animosity among older players, but he has done a lot to keep the game a thriving business. Yes, membership numbers are down, but as has been said many times throughout this thread, that's because of a huge host of interconnected reasons and any employer looking even a tiny bit beyond the simple "lost 50% of members over 6 years" will see that the vast majority is not the fault of Marks leadership and rather inevitable decline based on the aforementioned reasons.
  11. Figures. Not sure why people would chose one of those worlds to do the tasks on. Even empty(ish) worlds are packed for a few hours after reset.
  12. Finally got all skills 80+ back (all P2P skills = 80). Now to finish 99 crafting before my membership runs out.
  13. If it's your son's account, you could also try emailing [email protected]. I hear that address responds fairly quickly.
  14. Today's challenge, cheer in the Draynor cabbage patch with no cabbages in it. Logged onto W99 1 min after reset and we got it done within 30 seconds. Though it looked like the group after us was struggling to organize because the cabbages were spawning in random locations.
  15. Trading anything within runescape for anything outside of runescape is against the rules.
  16. I actually like the direction of the game atm. Getting the gods involved in our day to day lives could make for very interesting lore / quests / lols. As well, the HTML5 and EOC updates are an effort to modernize the game which I've been advocating for for years. I realize not everyone likes change as much as I do, but that's just my opinion.
  17. Ah okay then. My bad. I've never actually used any override so I just assumed when I turned it on and it all showed up that it was all or nothing. Thanks.
  18. I'm just disappointed (not surprised) it's a cosmetic override rather than items. There's no mix and matching to find something that can use parts to looks neat. It's all ugly or nothing.
  19. Today's challenge - Train 15 skills in 1 day.
  20. Well, they're going for ~400 ea now. When it was first released they were up to 2k ea. 100k isn't a ton, but enough to be worth a few minutes' time.
  21. Todays challenge is eat 50 bananas. Protip: bones to bananas. Also, Port Sarim food shop has a crate of infinite bananas in the back. White apron required to get in.
  22. Cutting staff from the Transformers game has nothing to do with Runescape dying. It's natural that they downsize their staff as the number of players lowers. They have what, like 400 employees? Reducing 5% is hardly a sign of death.
  23. Completed the task. It was fun trying to die to the KBD with a dozen others. :P Reward was chosable exp reward from the Task Master. 18,630 xp at 97 crafting. As far as I know, that's equivalent to a medium lamp. Final rewards:
  24. Or on Friday so that the weekend crew didn't have to post it.
  25. In 2006 I took a walk around all of W7 and counted the number if bots vs humans. The world was approx 66% bots. Granted, F2P had far more bots than P2P at the time due to a number of reasons, but the massive decline in F2P bots is a major factor in the decline of the F2P 'player' numbers.
