2007 - Old School RuneScape... You Vote! - [It's Here!]
Gotta love MMG and his wonderful spin-doctoring. He gives no mention of what a "Unique active player" is. For all I know, that could be including every single spambot that botwatch kills after 30 seconds. The highscores certainly disagrees with his premise that the current P2P population can blow past the 750k mark. I'll try to find the exact point of where the untrained 34-total accounts end, but like Sy said previously, it's around 760k. Far from the 8M+ MMG makes it sound like. EDIT: Current number of people on the HS = 1,845,266 The spot in the HS where untrained accounts end (1154 xp) Just proof that trial members will not be able to vote: And of course they use bribery to get people to vote. ONLY if you vote can you recieve a month free. I'm almost tempted to vote just so I can get the free month, but I certainly wouldn't ever pay for RS07. This will only work to hurt Jagex because it inflates the number of votes, thus driving the prices lower, even if people have no intention of actually paying for the service. ** These images from the HS are intended as a reference as to the APROX number of members there are by removing untrained accounts (assumed to be spambots on trial memberships). Many of the spambots I encounter are trained beyond 34 total and some paying members may still be untrained for various reasons, so the numbers will be different that those I've shown. The actual number of paying accounts is only known by Jagex.

product placement as an alternative to microtransactions?
I can just see the homepage now... New Quest! In this adventure, you will take your trusty Nike running shoes all the way to the north, bundling up in your Northern Face jacket. There, you will use your Ski-doo to hunt for the secret Nestle facility. Or they'll could just slap product placements subtly into everyday NPC interactions. No one will ever know. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjB6r-HDDI0 Just an aside, there are not nearly as many F2Pers as P2P online at any given moment.

True. And once they DO come back and yall realize where all the fun is at.... I'll leave it at that. If this whole thing becomes a sucess, more than haf of the users online will be on the 2007 servers. Enjoy your empty worlds. This ^ Seriously ... lol, everyone on this board is so negative "i don't want bla bla bla" ... i can't wait to get to 250k. I will gladly pay $5 extrah löl. Over the years I've noticed that Tipit has more realists than idealists, and with that comes critical thinking about the positives and negatives. I honestly think that some people are getting caught up in nostalgic hype.

To comment on a few pages back with the graphs of decline: Runescape was created in the early 2000's and at it's core still has the same mechanics and game-style as it did back then. A significant reason why RS's population has been decreasing is that RS simply is too old. The online game market, nay, the entire internet, has changed drastically in the time RS has been around. It was inevetable the RS would slowly die as more and more games flooded the market with newer and newer mechanics that reflect how current gamers play. This is why Jagex implimented EOC. Trying to impliment some newer mechanics in an old game to keep it relevant. Going back to 2007 is at least 3 steps in the wrong direction. It will not get any new subscribers. The only purpose it serves is to feed the nostalic trolls that yell until they get what they want, and even they will leave it quickly when they realize nostalgia is best left as nostalgia.

That's just income and assumes everyone who votes follows through.

Not likely. They'll just bot both. Their capacity to make and run bots is not the limiting factor in their operations, it's server space (spawn overcrowding).

implying there is even 300k active members.if we get 250k we will be insanely lucky imo, tho i am just guesstimating. A few pages back someone found the spot in the highscores where trial spambots ends and its about 750k*. So 33% is needed for the $5 a month server and 66% for the free for members server and 100% for free for everyone servers. *That is counting the accounts with over 34 total.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, voting yes is just as selfish as voting no because the reasons people chose either answer is based on personal preferences. Me wanting to maintain what little community there is left is no more or less selfish than you wanting to relive your childhood.

No matter how hard I try to see otherwise, I can't see it going any other way except to become servers with 5% people pk'ing and 95% people botting to become pk'ers within the year. That just doesn't sit well with me. Even if it makes a bit of money for jagex.

No, they most likely just hire more people just for the 07 servers, so it doesn't take any resources from the main game. Money to hire. Money for servers. Yes. I know it will produce income too, but I don't see the servers lasting long enough to be worth it. Only reason RSC servers are going is for nostalgias sake. They cost more than they're worth.

@100 I could say the same for anyone voting yes. You are voting to take resources from the main game so you can relive your own personal childhood memories.

Anyone have the time to look through the HS to check how many real players there are? Ie: not counting the 34 total level spambots on trial. I have a feeling that 750k will be impossible.

One major reason I like the member only voting is that the last vote was overtaken by people with a dozen account (mostly pures) which really skewed the results. If I could vote, it would be no.

12-Feb-2013 - Slayer Tower: Revamped
New update? Or have I just not seen it until now? Niles seems to be a permenant fixture in the GE, and he talks about noted items. EDIT: Thanks, Aussie. I skipped straight to the 'In Other News' thinking it would be there or the patch notes.

01-Feb-2013 Squeal of Fortune: Cash Bags
Small bag = 15,224 @ 2180 total which seems consistant with what others are getting, but I'm F2P. So I'd say that it uses your total, and not just your F2P total while in F2P (I assumed as much, but just making sure). EDIT: Small bag = 15,892 @ 2180

RuneScape: Old and New
People try that all the time, making new accounts to try to relive thier childhoods. It never works. As I've told exactly 9001 people in the FC I frequent, Nostalgia has a wonderful way of tricking us into thinking that the past was better than it was. When given the opportunity to 'relive' the past, most people lose interest quickly as soon as they realize that nostalgia is best left as nostalgia.

2013: What's Coming and What's Going
And who spends real money on RS GP? I don't really know, but I would assume - Kids who get a hold of daddy's credit card (EDIT: ninja'd x2) - People that are too lazy to make GP - Gamblers (stakers/dicers) that got cleaned and want to start gambling again - People who are hacked and cbb to start from scratch Little note on the last one: I was PM'd by a player a few days ago asking for help solving a hacking issue. After giving him all the help I could (which is essentially telling him that there's nothing that can be done, just prevent it from happening again) he ended the conversation with 'If jagex and pmods would get off their lazy arses and help people who are hacked, then people wouldn't go to gold sites. I'm off to buy 100m'. It's fundamentally flawed logic, but it does show that there are people out there that RWT to prevent having to start from scratch.

untitled 0113 - a new age of banking and merchanting
Seeing as that is literally how every single (or nearly every single) bank in the world works, it's not that big of a deal. Except that every single [legitimate] real world bank is regulated and registered to prevent them from running off with your money. Not saying you will scam people, but i don't even trust my best friends on RS with my GP so I doubt your banking idea will take off. That said, I support your goal and with you luck merchanting. 20% profit margins are very ambitious.
