27-Oct.-2010 Emergent Gameplay letter
Again, as it seems too many are doing here, Emergent doesn't have to be something that makes the goal of the game come faster (levels, money etc) which is all you listed. the way you are interoperating what has been said is that a gnomeball is just thrown between two people, cannot be emergent as it was developed like that. But that is NOT what people do and what Jagex is talking about in the article. A group of peoplg actually making a ball game with the gnomeball IS emergent gameplay. You are using no imagination and dumbing down everything to its most basic form when emergent gameplay won't happen. I can do exactly the same thing with what you say, you are just using a cannon, you are just playing the mini-games. Jagex implemented them, therefore they are not emergent. I'd also like to say that many people don't seem to even be reading the article. They just seem to rage at anything Jagex assuming they say one thing, when they are saying another. This article is basically a report about what Jmods have seen PLAYERS do. These PLAYERS have then come to events and told Jagex about them. It isn't Jagex inventing things for you to do. A majority of these things are community driven, such as the wrestling tournaments.

Limewire shut down
That is the biggest issue with this, which is why I'm surprised it's not being talked about more. Instead people are just going "LOL DOESNT AFFECT ME WHO USES LIMEWIRE STILL" (Not just the replies on this thread, but my friends and coworkers as well). The problem is, it is very hard to find an argument for not shutting down more which is why I think a lot of people don't try.

Jagex's new bot punishment: Level resetting
Because if they outright say their system for detecting bots, the creators of them will adjust them so that they avoid it. Much like intelligence services in real life have to keep as secretive as possible o do their job.

Limewire shut down
Good riddance. Honestly, they have done pirates a favour. Only stupid pirates used limewire.

27-Oct.-2010 Emergent Gameplay letter
But making a game out of tossing the ball to each other is emergent. Even here, people are not thinking outside the box. Use your imagination.

Jagex's new bot punishment: Level resetting
Maybe they are using it as a second test for macro users? Reset the level by x amount, if the account carries on training it again without stopping or noticing, chances are it is a bot leading to a ban?

4chan DDoS's some anti-piracy sites.
What? Somebody did the internet a huge favour taking down limewire, that thing was the scourge of the internet and everybody using it. It's probably been one of the main ways these people were getting their claws into others people's computers to actually do these attacks. Whoever shut off limewire, I salute you.

27-Oct.-2010 Emergent Gameplay letter
The above few posts, you are getting off topic and are basically going into the efficiency debate which has no place on this thread. On topic, I can see what gollvellius is getting at, but from a different light. What Jagex describes IS both emergent gameplay AND roleplaying in different occasions. Just because that is, also does not mean all the things everybody else is saying are not, as they are too. Strictly speaking, anything you do which is not playing content exactly how a developer expected is emergent, such as playing a quest line, training a skill, playing a mini-game. Honestly, do you guys argue just for the sake of arguing? Thinking outside the box is the main focus for many players. Some will follow the trend and do what everybody else does, killing monsters, getting money, getting exp, but some find that ultimately boring. That does not mean the game should be over for them. Having an imagination grants people the opportunity to make their own fun out of the game. One person's fun is another person's hell, but nobody has the right to say theirs is better than the others.

My goodness, this is a completely different game...
Give me a break, I doubt you have even played it since they made the changes. The only thing they screwed up was the high score table. Overall, they made a few changes that reward the average player (aka the castlewars pker) and the stacker clowns cry. You don't need billions to play. It doesn't cost much more to play today than it did in 2006. Barrows is about the same price and ice barrage is probably even cheaper. If you mean the spirit shields, well they aren't that good. PVP armour and weapons are cute but don't really matter that much except for say miasmic barrage from zuriels staff. Choatic items of similar quality are free. Frankly, today's beasts of the game wear the profound armour set. That by the way is earned through countless hours of castle wars combat which is quite fitting. Finally, themed worlds were a blessing to castle wars. It was all but dead in worlds other than the crowded ones at the top of the list like 2 & 6. So no more try and try again to log on to world 6. For one, thankyou for not even reading my post except one part which seems to make you rage. Now, for the rest, maybe I should go through point by point? First off, to play seriously and actually have an impact, like koddo used to do very well, you need buckets of money. Prayer and summoning are two major areas where you do need a hefty chunk of money to play. Even herblore, as I say I have not played for a fair amount of time, but I think you may even be able to use the top end potions in CW now. On gear, compared to maybe a year ago, no, the money has not gone up, but from 2006? If you think it hasn't you are kidding me. Your average pker may want to use the reward armour, but a serious player won't. Mellee armour is the worst thing to wear in CW. (I will put a video at the end, please tell me how many of these beasts you see wearing the reward armour) The best gear for CW takes hours of non CW to attain, which for players who play mainly for it, means it is almost impossible to compete. Compare modern war gear to that of around 2006. You would often be wearing karils and maybe have one part of a mellee brother's armour. You would have infinity boots, fury and later on wands and mage's books. This would altogether cost under 15m. Compare that to today's armour, Armadyl is a must have, with fury's still used, but third age amulets the most sought after. Then you have spirit shields which are used by the elite players, but are widely used. It can all add up to being in the hundreds of millions. Also adding on godswords, dragon claws etc, the cost can undeniably be more than 06. Castle wars was also definitely not all but dead on worlds other than the higher numbered ones. If you had been playing CW seriously at the time, you would know this. I can with a whole lot of confidence say that many worlds, world 60, world 64, world 99, world 70, world 54 were all active worlds, and there have been various incarnations of world 129. And those were only the ones I personally played on, there would be countless others having active games. Honestly, that you use world 2 even as an example makes me want to hang my head. Some great clans did indeed come from world 6, so I'm not going to discount it, but it was by no means the main world for a long time. Now however, apart from themed worlds, it is almost impossible to get a game going. Themed worlds are so crowded, communities cannot spring up around them, which has lead to a massivle decline in castle wars clans over the last few years. The best places for clans to spring up were worlds with around 5-10 regulars, who would within themselves for a community. This is in my opinion, the major reason for the downfall of the community around CW. Here's a video by the way, please show me the reward armour here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4Cs1k0pB28&fmt=22 I may not have played CW in a while, but I don't like to be schooled by those who think they know more than me on a subject which my playing was centred on for a good 5 years, and one which I still keep up to date on through CWC.

My goodness, this is a completely different game...
Removed a lot of the arguing, if people want to post, be respectful even if somebody has a differing idea to you. Or if you think somebody has said something out of line, REPORT the post, don't respond. On topic, Themed worlds really did kill cw for fun games. Themed worlds are too crammed with people to have communities evolve around them, and un-themed worlds are usually too empty to even get a game started. On the topic of the update, I personally have not been on since before it happened, but from what I hear on CWC, the catapults and ballistas are OP in themed worlds too. Add to this the fact that in the modern game, you now need to be a billionaire to have any chance at having decent enough gear to have an impact, the game has lost a lot of its feeling for those who used to play the game as their main focus in RS. Many of the famous faces have moved on and left.

Tip.it Timeline
I actually think it sounds pretty good. With for example, small thumbnails which enlarge when hovered over showing before/after if applicable. However, deciding what was and wasn't a major update may be hard.

Flaming
You would be surprised how well the communication works between the staff. If there is a troubling user walking the line, chances are we all know of them and are keeping an eye on them. The problem is, we have do do as we would like done to ourselves. If I was to post something close to, but not quite breaking the rules, I would be mightily displeased to be banned.
-
Flaming
Unfortunately however, if we were to suddenly go on a ban spree and take out those who walk the line very closely, we would end up getting barrages of fake accounts, insults and the like from friends who would make accounts and no end of hassle. I am somebody who would swiftly get rid of a lot of people as many walk the line on purpose so much, I do have a good handful of people I have to keep looking at and keeping an eye on, alas action cannot be taken in a fair forum. Usually, the trolls just slip up eventually and we can usually just carry on.

Most surprising kill/story?
I would have been laughing unstoppable for ages after doing that. That's something which you need a gif of. Also, troll, you were using corrupt but not risking anything?

Dark Demesne's Runescape Art
I was speechless when I saw the whiteberry bush picture. The detail on the character is so impressive and almost photo realistic. On first glance I did think it may have been a photo. The colouring on her arms is incredible. I like the portrait too, you seem to manage to get emotion into the characters. Do you send all your Rs based drawings in the Jagex?

F1 2010 Season
Ugh, the delay also made the BBC mess up. I watched the first part on iplayer, up to around lap 40, went to watch the second part but they hadn't put it up. They had the forum which was done after the second part up already, just not the actual end of the race. Had to watch it today. I feel for Vettel and Webber, they both could have pulled some good points out of that race. I was so shocked to see Webber crash, this season he has been Mr consistency. I fear they both may be out of the championship race now. They need Alonso and Hamilton to have DNF's. Button is effectively out now for sure. Happy to see Schumi doing well, he was my favourite driver when younger, and I still think he can do well.

3rd Age/Spirit shields/Phats Discussion
It depends. If he wants to spend a good amount of hours to get any actual monetary value out of them, he will never need money again. However, if he doesn't have much time, they are basically worthless. Getting actual money out of the rares nowadays takes a lot of work.

F1 2010 Season
Double post but oh well. Very intense last few laps of qualifying. I didn't think anybody would beat Alonso's time but Webber and Vettel struck at the end, and the distance between the two was so close. Was something like 0.068. Button and Kubics don't look as if they will stand a chance in the race and I think Hamilton will struggle too. This means the championship will be down to three drivers. Unfortunately Webber is starting on the dirty side of the grid so he needs to be very lucky off the line.

That should be the choice of the artist. Artists charge for their work because they put time and effort into it and they're tired of being homeless/need more heroin. The issue is that whether you would be buying the song or not, your are denying money to the people involved in making it. you're* Since you make such obvious grammatical mistakes, I'm not sure if your argument holds any water. I love dl'ing music. I mean, I don't have the money to pay for it. Then you are breaking the law. You cannot argue that. Would you then justify that by attacking those who try to enforce such laws? That would almost be as bad of a choice as ignoring somebodies argument due to a grammatical error.

My goodness, this is a completely different game...
Let me say this first, Hi koddo! The game has changed, but It gives you the opportunity to have that experience of exploration without knowing what you are doing. It is a valuable time which will quickly run out, so enjoy it while you can.

Godville - ELITES = #1 Guild
Managed to use 6 punishes and I still didn't manage to turn my char's 3k into a golden brick. Such a shame, but I guess now he can buy himself some better gear. I'm yet to have anything 20+ yet i'm almost level 23.
