  1. If they both have a 69 range bonus, then get the magic shortbow. I'm pretty sure that it is faster, so you'll hit the same but at a quicker rate, without sacrificing accuracy. Also, for monster hunting I would say that the magic shortbow has the superior special attack, because lowering your enemies magic level is useless in PvM in almost every situation, compared to two quick hits. Even if they're only the same speed, I think the magic shortbow is cheaper, if that matters for you, so for ranging monsters get the magic shortbow. If you PvP a lot, the seercul may be better for the special attack only.
  2. Are you looking for a permanent team who'd you like to go with regularly? Or just a one time team? If the latter, just go to the PvM section of the RSOF forums, and go under the appropriate sticky for the GWD section you'd like to go to. If you see somebody nice who'd you like to go with again, try asking them if they can keep you added, so you'd be able to go with them instead of looking for a new team all the time. You may be able to recruit a few people for a more consistent team as well under that forum, but I'm not sure on how reliable they'd be unless you already went with them. Most people are alright, but some are just horrible and have no idea on what to do, or do the wrong thing, or are just disresprectful, so just beware.
  3. What I did was train equally in groups of 5 until level 90. Then I got 93 attack/strength/defence, and got lazy. I got 98 attack now, but am going for 98 strength and defence before going for 99 melees. The reason I'm doing this is mainly because when I get waterfiend tasks and iron/steel dragon tasks, I use controlled option on the zamorakian spear. I don't want the exp to go to waste, so I'm letting my attack just level slowly while strength and defence catch up. It would have been best if I used control on the whip, but I like seeing my exp go up fast, so I use whip for attack/defence and the saradomin sword for strength. I don't see the point in getting 80 in two melee stats and 99 in another, or even 85. Maybe at 90 of two and 99 in the other I see it as ok, but before that I feel that it's best to keep it even. So I'd say get 90/90/90 melee stats before considering getting 99 in a single one. Another reason is that if you like to boss hunt, 90s look much better than 85s in my opinion, so that 'd help you.
  4. Honestly just get 93 herblore, or 94 if you're impatient. You can save at least 30 mill (not sure on current prices, I get herbs from MTK mainly) I'd say, and just put in a few hours of effort to hunt for the spices and stew up. I've made at least 200 overloads so far, and it only took me maybe 3 hours of hunting rats (probably less) and around one hour of stewing up. When stewing up however, make it so that you only drink one stew right when your stats restore, so if you get the right boost you have enough time to make around 12 (I make 14ish if I get to 96, 30ish if I get 97, don't remember for 98 much, but likely 40-45). I use a skillcape to boost up my hp to 100, and when it drops to 99, I stew up. If it fails, I quickly put in three more doses of spice and try once more. If that also fails, I just wait another minute. It seems tiresome, but it's not as bad as it sounds. Also, from making the extremes and overloads you'd eventually get 94 or more, making it easier in the future. I'm already 160k exp or so away from 94, and have at least 120 more overloads to make. I have around 30 greenman ale (m) from the ge (they buy overtime, leave in an offer for a while and update regularly), so after that it'll be really easy to make future overloads. I actually started stewing up at 92 herblore, which was a little more effort, but I got 93 just from making overloads/extremes, so I hardly noticed the cost. Looking at brainymidget's herblore cost spreadsheets, it appears that at the moment prayer potions are only around 19 gp/exp at the moment, which is quite cheap considering other methods the past few months. They fluctuate a lot, so look regularly at what is cheapest whenever, so that you don't end up losing out more than you could. I'd say refer often to the spreadsheet and just make whatever is cheapest each day. Good luck with your training.
  5. Don't bring all brews though. Even with restores, your stats will be normal quite a bit, unless you barely get hit. Maybe a mix of both may work. When I first tried overloads and brews, I brought 2 thirds brews other third rocktails, only got 3 kills, and that was barely. Whereas with just rocktails I got 2 to 3 kills per trip with just extremes. Maybe you have to tweak the ratio of brews to fish so that your stats aren't reduced too much, but I just find it easier to use a dose of overload, 4 doses sara brew (to recover hp and boost above max), and then super restore to restore stats quickly to normal level. I then wait until they get boosted to max, and just enter and fight as normal. I'd probably be better off using just extremes, but I feel stronger with overloads  I just don't find it too practical in soloing Bandos or Zamorak, because of the constant eating. At Saradomin soloing I find it pretty useful, as I can just take a few doses of brew every so often and almost always have max range. This allows me to use super prayer potions, and therefore extend my trips by quite a bit instead of using just super restores, which give at least 30 less prayer points per inventory spot. I haven't tried it at Armadyl though.
  6. Seriously? Were you doing it at the right spot :-? At level 85 or so with just void and grey chins, no familiar, normal range pots, I was getting at least 170 exp per chin. Red chins would most likely have given a bit more than 200 at that time. Although this was only 3 trips or so (I got bored and couldn't stand it back then), the exp was consistent. From 91 to 96 I used only 12500 chins, getting approximately 3.4m exp. Maybe extreme range potions help quite a bit, but I still think your exp rates are quite low for those levels/equipment.
  7. With red chins, 91+ range, extreme range potions, and geyser titan I got on average 270-280 exp per chin. Seeing as how you're lower than all of those stats I had when I chinned, I think you should still be able to at least get 180 exp per chin at your current level. I may be way off, seeing as how I never used chins much before what I have now, but it should be 200+ at level 85 at least. The best place is the ape atoll monkies. Although you don't get drops, the much quicker exp more than makes up for the extra money spent, as you have a lot more time to do other things. There is a guide in the AOW, http://forum.tip.it/topic/222890-melee-ranging-and-a-slight-diversion/, which has an excellent set up and explains what to do pretty well. He also has a formula to calculate how much exp you should get per chin. Taken from the guide directly: So 76 range with red chins, you should get approximately 209 exp per red chin (unless I messed up the calculation somewhere). This should give you a rough idea of what to expect, after getting used to chinning of course.
  8. Yeah, as D Jay said, it takes 15 seconds for the stats to restore. Although overloads sound great, they're not that much better than just extremes. Especially for bosses such as bandos soloing, where you have to eat quite a bit. At saradomin solo however, it may be kinda useful, as you don't brew too much, so you can have maximum range level most of the time as long as the overload lasts. I was pretty disappointed when I made my first few overloads, but that is because I thought you could brew unlimited times with max stats still. But I still use them with normal fish, because 5 minutes of maximum stats must help a bit at bosses, in my opinion.
  9. From 91 to 96 range, with extreme range potions and geyser titan, I got anywhere from 270 to 280 exp per red chin, on average. Dunno how much extreme range pots will help compared to normal ones.
  10. Wow... that good? I never knew. So how many kills do you manage an hour at your levels? When I had only super sets and 91 range I got around 16ish kills per hour. Went last night with higher range and overloads, was managing around 20 to 22 kills per hour. Maybe I just got lucky, but I noticed that I was killing quite a bit faster. Too bad I'm at least 300ish dry there :( 255 logged and a few random trips.
  11. If you do the legacy of seergaze quest, you could kill mutated bloodvelds. I'm not sure how much better they are, but you could cannon them for quick exp. I haven't done the quest though, so I have no idea no how crowded it is. But it's a possibility.
  12. Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Tried whip/rune defender, whip/blessed spirit shield, and zamorakian spear, but each time hardly got nomad to 1/4 hp left before he healed. But then again, I was using rocktails along with 4 brews. So after 3 tries, I decided to test out ranging in black d hide and blessed spirit shield with brews/restores, and it worked out a lot better than I thought it would. Ended up with 11 extra brews, and used leech defense/mage/range. Was fun though, been a while since I struggled with a boss.
  13. Only reason I could think of is that the animation for deflection lags sometimes, I'm not sure why only sometimes. When I run from the trollheim teleport to god wars dungeon and use deflect range, it lags alot half the time, sometimes my character just runs through fine as though its a normal range prayer. So if the animation makes you a little laggy, then do not use curses at Jad. Otherwise, I see no reason why not.
  14. You should chin the monkeys under ape atoll for sure, as they give much more exp at a much quicker rate. Although no void is a bit of a disadvantage, it'd be better just to use dragon hide or armadyl since the 10ish hours spent getting void is not worth it just for 99 range through chinning as far as I'm aware. Also it is pretty boring getting full void, so if you just want 99 range quickly and most likely won't need void after that just stick with what you have. For rates, from 91-96 range I got on average 275 exp per chin, with extreme range pots, void, and a geyser titan. I got 575k exp per trip, and 2075 chins used per trip. Each trip lasted around 105 minutes roughly, as I used 1 whole geyser titan (69 minutes) and the second one always had 37ish minutes left, so thats 101 minutes plus the banking/getting there time. This was over 6 trips I believe, with the last two trips being cut short because of other commitments (I hate logging out inside the place, ruins my mood), so the data is a bit flawed. Oh and I used 19 prayer pots and 1 super restore (for summoning points) per trip, along with 3 and a half extreme range pots. So if you're 88 range, and we assume at least 250 exp per red chin, then you would need around 30k red chins from my calculations. But then again, I'm assuming a lot since I'm not sure if you have extreme range pots, or a geyser titan, which I heard adds around 20k extra exp per hour.
  15. From my personal experience, with extreme potions and piety, I found a whip along with a dragonfire shield better than a godsword. I usually got 3 kills per trip, sometimes dropping to two, once even 4. But with a godsword (I've tried SGS, BGS, and AGS) I found that 2 kills was more common. I didn't do extentensive testing, as I did only around 5 trips for the whip and dragonfire shield and at least 10 trips with a godsword. But from personal experience, the extra defence from the dragonfire shield allows me to use karils top for good magic and ranged defence, which allows me to eat less and attack more. Another alternative that I used 3 times was verac's. I got 2 kills per trip each time, and it wasn't that bad. But overall, the best combo for me was a whip + DFS. In a free for all duo with my friend I also got more kills every time even though he used AGS. He has slightly lower stats and no extremes, but I had to tank, so my advantage was cancelled out a bit.
  16. 50 herbs in one farm run I think. If so, nice! In over 300 herb runs I've never gotten over 45, so 50 is just really amazing. Of course it's all luck, but still cool.
  17. I've had this account since around April of 2005, and after a lot of on and off time, I'm happy to have a 99. I never really aimed for this one, it just came over time. I always used to train up my attack, defence, and strength together in groups of 5 levels, until lvl 90 where I just got lazy and trained whatever. The last level came from chinning primarily, and hopefully I'll have 99 range in a few days. More pics: And my best of bank: My bank will probably decrease by 10 mill in a few days after I get the chinning done. After that I plan to do some solo Armadyl and Saradomin, and hopefully get a hilt. Also, is it possible to keep an untrimmed cape untrimmed even after getting another 99? Like maybe by telegrabbing from your grave in f2p? I would like to keep my untrimmed 99 hp cape as it looks nice, but I'm not sure if it is possible. And yeah, I know my skills are getting a bit low, but I find combat to be my favourite aspect of runescape, so I've shifted my focus from total level to just combat level. I still want to get all 80+ skills one day, as that would look nice, but that's for another day. So I would like it if you guys could rate my achievement and my stats.
  18. Just bring a war tortoise full of food, and bring maybe 6 prayer pots along with a super attack, super strength, and range potion. Based on how long you last, and how much food you use/prayer pots you use, adjust your inventory. You won't get 20+ kills per trip, but you should still do good enough.
  19. I'm pretty sure no one pays to use gilded altars anymore, as by the yanille house portal in world 31 people are always advertising their house for free, as well as on the events page on the RSOF.
  20. While on task for waterfiends, I always get 120+ crimsons per hour, sometimes over 130. This is based on only 3 waterfiend tasks, as I haven't slayed much since I got unicorn, but it seems quite consistent in all three tasks. I use piety, with slayer helm, zamorakian spear, and karil's. But I also use extreme pots, and have a unicorn, so I don't use any protect prayers. Since you're off task, I think that if you use void you'll be able to get similar results maybe, or perhaps around 110+, since you're maxed melees. If you use protect range, and a bunyip, with void or karil's (not sure which is better, I'd prefer void off task myself, but maybe karil's is better), you should be able to at least get 100+. So 40 less crimsons per hour, but you actually profit from waterfiends. Myself, I would do bursting since I want magic exp, but seeing that you have 99 mage already, I would say go waterfiends to save a lot of money and spend a bit more time. Unless you have lots of money laying around and want it quick, in which case you should barrage.
  21. Nope brews are terrible there. To heal 20+ hp you have to take 2 sips, then 1 restore, then 1 super/extreme attack and finally 1 super/extreme strength. You would end up drinking more then you could in combat with him. The only possible way would be overload potions, but once you can use those you should be high enough level where your getting more then 3 kills per trip anyway. So if you have overload potions, you can use a full inventory of saradomin brews and get like 6+ kills per trip? Especially since extreme magic pots boost magic level, brews shouldn't lower the magic level like they did before the update. Is this possible then? Or is using brews with overloads still a bad idea? You sip potions without skipping an attack turn if timed right, so you could attack constantly if you time everything correctly. If what I'm thinking is correct, then I'm definitely going to get around 93 herblore so I could stew up to overloads. Over double the amount of kills per trip seems like a really good opportunity, and your stats won't decrease either, so you'll have your maximum potential at all time. So is this really possible? Or am I just dreaming/overestimating the overload potions true effect?
  22. Well I'm getting around 3 kills a trip, every so often 2. Granted, this is only based on around 8 trips. 5 or 6 of those have been 3 kill trips, so I'm happy. I remember when I struggled to get one, because I was too cheap to use sharks or rocktails and to use a tortoise :-P I see so many other soloers just stand there and eat, and I find that to be their biggest mistake. Only because of this guide I'm able to squeeze another kill in, as I'm able to make him dance around long enough to eat up. Looks like the best set up for me is a godsword (bandos or saradomin seems best), extreme potions, and a tortoise, with sharks or better for food. Anyways, thanks for this awesome guide, really makes it simple and I've finally grown out of my 1 kill trip days :-)
  23. Meh, I feel ripped off now for getting 90 herblore  I spent 80 mill getting 90 herblore, mainly for the mid 40s I could hit. Now that the max is 39ish, I feel like it wasn't worth it. Oh well, I still have extreme attack and super strength pots. But knowing that for a 5k potion (the normal mage pot), I could be doing 15 percent more damage, instead of 80 mill for 21 percent more damage, that hurts. Also, the boosted level will decrease normally right? So that's only 2 minutes of more damage than a normal 5k potion. Oh well, I'll get over it, but it still irks me.
  24. Ok, thanks for the replies guys. Looks like I'll be getting 92 herblore so I can stew up for overloads one day
  25. So if I'm soloing bandos, I could brew as much as I want, wait a few seconds, and I'll be max stats again? Seems overpowered, but waiting a few seconds might destroy the advantage gained as you might get hit. Or is the stat regain almost automatic?
