  1. I think try and keep a week behind each post if it's possible, or at least a few days. It's okay to have two lists so close together to get things started off though. I'll start preparing a list sometime soon as well.
  2. Stupid thread. Most of the time artists that people would call overrated are those who either pioneered or popularized a new genre. Of course such artists are going to appear overrated in comparison to artists that follow them, as the following artists are focusing not on creating a new sound, but on perfecting an old sound. The other instance in which one might consider an artist overrated is simply because the person doesn't particularly appreciate the type of music they play. In that case, it's not so much to do with the artist's ability as it is to do with the subjective genre preference of the listener. So again, stupid thread.
  3. I'm so glad someone started this up again! Very interesting list, you have a number of artists on there that I'm quite a big fan of (Anaal Nathrakh, Primordial, Neutral Milk Hotel, Fall of Efrafa). Also really excited to see Penderecki on there. He's a fantastic composer, and I've just started playing his Violin Sonata No. 1; it's lots of fun. I'll certainly be checking out the artists on there I don't know.
  4. Why don't we start this whole thing all over again? My musical tastes have changed dramatically since I posted my list, and I would assume it would be the same for all the other posters. This was a really fantastic thing for these forums and it would be great if it could get back up.
  5. I just recently got Pink by Boris, but I have yet to listen to it. Never heard of Sleep but that is a really cool song. I quite like Stoner Metal/Sludge so I'll track down some more of their stuff. :)
  6. Don't listen to metal anywhere near as much as I used to, but it's still among my favourite genres. Particularly been listening to Doom, Drone, and Sludge recently, but I'm also really enjoying Behemoth's latest release. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jX3EzwnFPfQ Most metalheads would have already heard of Sunn O))) in passing at least, but still worth a mention. One of my favourite bands at the moment. I can see how people might find them boring. However, possibly coming from my love of Minimalism, their music sets pretty much the best atmosphere I can think of. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6Fh0H5fPpk Recommendation from SilverSword a while back if I remember correctly. Earlier albums are a lot more punk-ish and also great, but Inlé is their best in my opinion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_O7iD6UfAZ4 Another old recommendation from these forums, Nadril if I remember correctly. Kind of awesome band. P.S. This thread is already looking much more promising than previous metal threads. Will be keeping an eye on it. :)
  7. Hahaha, I like this thread. I also like the signature y_guy made. :)
  8. Just read this a few minutes ago.. Not to be an arse, but somehow I think the world will survive without him.
  9. If you feel like it I wouldn't mind a sig of a bleak, overcast, snow-covered field. Up to you.
  10. If adoption was as easy and successful as you probably think it is, that would be a fantastic solution. Unfortunately it's not.
  11. Lovely. I really dislike it when people refer to their beliefs as "strong". It just seems like giving yourself an excuse to be an arse to those who don't share your opinions.
  12. That'd be pretty stupid. Removing it would only result in people being even more ignorant about religions other than their own, if any (and even then...). But it's important that they're not trying to shove it down peoples' throats, but instead teach the different principles of all the different major religions in a factual and unbiased manner. That's what they did in my high school, and religion quickly turned into one of my favourite classes. I agree with this. However, I think RE should be left until the children are in high school, so they're old enough to actually have an opinion on the matter. Teaching primary school children religion seems pointless, and even wrong to me. There is something of a habit, at least where I'm from, of RE classes to be very much centred around Christianity, which I don't agree with. It's all well and good to say that RE classes should present each (major) religion from a non-biased perspective, but that very rarely actually happens.
  13. This news is perhaps a little bit late, so you have my apologies if it has already been posted. In short, a select few primary schools in New South Wales are trialling the teaching of Ethics to children in grades 5 and 6 as a potential option for those who do not want to participate in Special Religious Education. I'm curious what your opinions are of this move, and from a broader perspective, your opinions on the roles of religion in ethics and morality. NSW schools to begin ethics class pilot. Nothing to fear from ethics classes. Sign petition to save SRE classes - Bishop's call. Personally I feel this is an excellent move. I do not feel religion is something which needs to be taught at school until the children are old enough to have an actual opinion on it. I do not have children yet, but if I did I would not want them to participate in SRE. However, I also would not want them to feel ostracised from their classmates by sitting in the library under supervision instead of attending SRE.
  14. Oh god that is an amazing song.

  16. I have a bit of a question for your guys. My apologies if it's something that's already been covered extensively; my lurking of this thread has been a bit on and off. There is a girl that I like a bit, and I'm taking her to a bonsai exhibit tomorrow, after which I was going to get cupcakes from an amazing cupcake shop nearby. This is the third time I've been out with her alone, but for the previous two I wasn't quite sure how I felt about her so I didn't take much consideration of my actions. I'm a fairly confident person socially so it's not so much an issue of how to have an enjoyable time as it is how to get her to not friend-zone me. It's obvious she likes my company, as I figure she wouldn't be spending time with me otherwise, but I have something of a history of being "just friends" with a lot of girls, so it's something I'd like to try and avoid this time around. I've been working on taking control of the situation to somewhat assert confidence, but that's all I can think of. So, aside from that, any advice on how to avoid being viewed as just a friend?
  17. Any attention is good attention, right? :)

  18. No one blames you. ;)

  19. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12D6KEmJ_4E Gotta get me one of those DVDs.
  20. You're my new favourite TIFer!
  21. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2V0mPD6FhXQ Madvillain is amazing. Basically anything with Daniel Dumile in it is gold. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RA-lXK0c0g Possibly not exactly what you were talking about, but she's so freaking cool! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPCcf4XNeOg Found out about this guy from Kanye West's blog and loved him instantly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H69PoZWNgzE Cage is another good one. I'm definitely not a fan of Necro, but his producing is really good in this song. Plenty of others btu that should do it for now. :)
  22. t.A.T.u. are pretty decent and quite well-known. Edit: Just read they're actually not lesbians contrary to what I thought.. Sorry!
  23. I'm kind of poor right now, so I've started getting most of my clothes from op shops. Bought a red corduroy shirt the other day. It's kind of amazing. :)
  24. Not going to lie, that's absolutely terrible.
