  1. That's the point of it.. it's extremely stylized.. I really dig it, GS, I want to say it's vaguely cubist, but that's probably not right.t.. The only thing I really don't like is the text, but, it's good enough, so, *shrug*..
  2. May've been the case in the past, or for you, but I've never had it take more than a few mb of memory, and now with the new version, it's even faster. Especially you should notice the difference if you use an older computer, as the article says. :)
  3. If you've never tried windowblinds before, now's the perfect time to. Windowblinds 5 was just released: http://www.wincustomize.com/Articles.aspx?AID=94025&c=1 I've bought ObjectDesktop for 3 years running now, and I plan to continue as long as it exists. It's well worth the money.
  4. I was hoping to god that nobody posted something as vapid as that, but god has failed me. Just because somone has no talent of their own (not saying nazgul doesn't), does not mean they cannot be a critic.
  5. I've had great luck with Dell Desktops, but as I said, my friends have had downright rotten luck with dell laptops.. Failed harddrives, dead disk drives, dead screens, and just general not good quality.
  6. Be wary of dells.. I have several friends who have downright bad luck with them..
  7. Maybe he was working on somone else's computer and found it humerous that they had no antivirus installed? (I really have no clue..)
  8. reinstalled several times using xp
  9. it gives me "UPS Management Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." and offers to send the error report containing: "szAppName : upsc[Caution: ExecutableFile] szAppVer : 2.1.8.0 szModName : unknown szModVer : 0.0.0.0 offset : 00000000"
  10. Just for the heck of it.. what do you like better? Chicago or New York style pizza? If you don't know the difference, basically: Chicago style is deep dish, layerd, sauce on top usually. New York style is very thin-crusted, usually with a smoother sauce, which is below the cheese/other topings. I'll leave my opinion for later when I'm not tired and can be more eloquent. :)
  11. To be honest I really quite agree with it being banned. If those people were using real guns, you'd certainly think it was wrong, yes? Well, using the hands and pretending they're real guns is one step away. I think it would've been better, and funnier, if they had used nerf guns or dart guns or something. It gives the same general feel without the implied lethal violence and adds more to the humor.
  12. The shareware version of Windowblinds is limited. The full version skins many more elements.
  13. Get Windowblinds (or even the entire Object Desktop package) from Stardock.com, then go to Wincustomize.com to download themes. It costs a bit, but It's well worth it. I've had it for several years now, and am planning on continuing to renew my subscription for as long as it exists.
  14. I have a UPS (uninterruptable power supply), and it comes with a utility to monitor the UPS and make the computer shut down on power loss, etc.. The app sits in the tray and gives you notifications sometimes, and if you double-click the tray icon (or select the item from the right click menu), it'll launch the utility where you can monitor the UPS, etc. However, recently, the tray app hasn't been able to launch the utility. It pops up with a green box (the interface is green) the size of the utility, then errors out. I can however launch the utility manually from where it's installed. I realize this is a rather obscure problem, but any help would be appreciated.
  15. Way to spam up the place, guys.
  16. *shrug* at least you did it all yourself.. and it looks good...
  17. Nuh uh. It was never said on the books how they look like as the people who knows what's under the hoods cannot tell the tale as they were given the Dementor's kiss. No. Harry's first viewing of a Dementor, on the Hogwarts Express, he sees a grey scabby hand for a split-second before it withdaws it inside the cloak. Also, Harry almost has the kiss performed on him, so he sees both of the dementor's hands and the dementor's head. It's vaguely like a human head, but with no eyes, or nose (I think), and a huge gaping sucking mouth. They induce remembrance of your most horrible memories because they suck the happy memories you have. Without the existance of happy memories come the horrible ones. That's basically what I said. The Nazgul don't suck happy memories out of you. They aren't technically alive, and the only way to destroy them is to destroy the master ring. I'm not even sure you can remove the rings from their finger, as they technically don't exist in the real world. They invoke fear, sure, but not nearly the same terror that the dementors invoke. The nazgul's fear is more primal, if you know what I mean. Also, the emptiness I was talking about was just the general feel from their description. They don't make the characters feel empty, the nazgul are described as empty themselves, physically speaking. It's complicated and I could explain it more but it'd take me a while. Frodo isn't the only one who can see their true form, he's the only one that could see them period. All anyone else saw was a sort of implied form due to the cloaks. Take away the cloaks and you've got nothing, almost literally. I'm not even gonna go there.. I'm basing my arguments off the book. I feel that the movies are inferior to the books (though mostly Harry Potter's case). Still, though. In the movies the Nazgul are upright on their horses, but go back and re-watch the scenes where they are unhorsed. I'd still debate that.
  18. If you look closely everything could be said to have been copied from something else. I can't vouch for "Diadem" as I've never read them, or even heard of them, however.. There was only 1 "Witch King", in LOTR, and that was the captain of the Nazgul, the once king of Angmar. Dementors bear little if any resemblance to them. The feelings caused by them, if you look any closer than a glance, are similar, but in an extremely basic sense. Since you'll probably debate me, let me elaborate now: The nazgul are described, off their horses, as looking like a bundle of rags, or almost crawling, suggesting that they either bend extremely low to the ground or are actually physically crawling. They are also implied to be very quick, and rightly so, rather wraithlike (IE ethereal, shapeless, etc). Dementors are not only 8 ft tall, but if I remember correctly, they are supposed to have purple cloaks. Also they have a very definite form, humanoid with scabby grey-skin, and an extremely hideous head. The form is always implied, which is very opposite to the Nazgul, whose lack of form is always heavily implied. The feeling attributed by a dementor is supposedly simply that of extreme cold, and extreme terror, given the fact that they induce remembrance of your most horrible memories. The ringwraiths don't really have an effect, other that you can "feel their presence" (this further enhances the idea that they don't really have a form). The cold you're probably thinking about is that Frodo's arm, after being stabbed by the Nazgul knife, remains deathly cold for days. Dementors are scary, cold, but have a definite form. Nazgul are wraithlike, an implied lack of form, and invoke a feeling of "evil", or "emptiness".
  19. Was Morrowind, I beleive.. but the Diablo and Morrowind sections were closed about 4-5 years ago.. WoW didn't even exist when tip.it became primarily runescape.
  20. revolution will be so to speak, a "novelty" it wont have many graphical improvements, but innovation-wise it will bring alot to gaming ... good thing yes.. but i hate gimmicks :P I really don't think it's just a "gimmick". If it was from somone else, maybe, but you know that Nintendo will be able to deliver. For all we know the motion-sensetive control-system might truly be the next-generation of video games. As for no graphical improvements? Meh, wait and see I guess.
  21. Very nice.. Did you do the fireball yourself? Just brushing from scratch?
  22. This test is exeedingly annoying because if you miss a word or add an extra character between spaces, the entire rest of your test is wrong. However.. 100 wpm 2 words 98% 98 wpm This type of test brings in the question, though.. how do we define typing speed? In sprint-type tests such as these? I think a better test would typing maybe 10 pages and seeing how long it takes you to type them, and make sure to discount any time spans of inactivity > .5 seconds or so.. or maybe do a sprint-type test first to see how long it usually takes you between characters, then discount spans longer than twice that, or something. Also make sure you have different tests for different types of keyboards.
  23. Interesting indeed.. However, you should know that the tip.it domain is owned by an Italian man (Silverion), and what he does with his domain is none of our business. :)
  24. wow.. TiVo for $20? Nothing like that here... and I happily slept until 3:00 pm today.. http://forums.fark.com/cgi/fark/comment ... nk=1776596 Nice Fark thread with some horror stories, though, many of them are great. (though some may not be suitable for younger readers)
  25. C'mon.. nobody?
