  1. As brad said, it really depends on what kind of budget you're on. Also, are you looking to buy a prebuilt computer (more expensive) or buy the components and assemble it yourself, or get someone to do it for you (cheaper)? Also what games are you looking to play on the computer? If you're playing something older you won't need to spend as much.
  2. I cheated to get my last 2 medic achievements  and I kind of screwed up my points count in the process (Most points as a Medic is now 109 :o). What really bugs me about the new updates was the way they modified well. I thought the map was fine as it was. New weapons are cool though.
  3. The PC. Since I play quite a bit of fps now, I find it works better with a mouse + keyboard than say a normal controller. I'm not saying that it doesn't work, I've played Nightfire several times on my friends PS2 and it's good fun; but I like having more 'movability' that comes with the mouse and the custom binds you can created using for the keyboard. My main reason for preferring PC though is the amount of games available, and there are many more free and/or open source games available.
  4. *Bump back to page 1* This should really be stickied, or put in AOW.

  6. Have you done a virus scan to make sure you haven't got any malware that's causing issues? Always worth a thought.
  7. In theory, that should work fine. Whether or not it actually does will be interesting to see ;)
  8. Have you considered the fact that he might be using a partitioned hard drive, where the C: partition might only be 30Gb? ;)
  9. Just buy the Orange Box. You aren't going to find a good as deal as it video game wise for ages, and it's hugely expensive either. On the servers I play on, many people seem to be playing rocket tennis. Works best with critical hit rockets ;)
  10. Does it happen when you're doing something or when you idle? It could be that Windows has turned your power settings so that if you don't do anything for a minute or so it turns your screen off. Not usre if this is possible but it might be worth checking. Just select power options under the control panel (assuming you are using windows, not something else).
  11. No, no and, did I mention, NO. This is just lazy, I see no need for it what so ever.
  12. Might also help if you upgrade your graphics drivers too, it can help increase frame-rate slightly and reduce lag. If you visit the website of your graphics card manufacturer, they should offer the latest drivers available for download. Here's a list of the most common manufacturers; if yours isn't listed here then a google search should find it. ATI - http://ati.amd.com/ NVIDIA - http://www.nvidia.com/ Matrox - http://www.matrox.com/ Intel - http://www.intel.com/ VIA - http://www.viaarena.com/ Great guide, should really be stickied :)

  14. Looks great :D I expect there'll be about 5+ pyros per server and no spies, but the rewards look fantastic. My favourite: "OMGWTFBBQ: Kill an enemy with a taunt."
  15. I've had many problems with Norton recently, especially performance wise where it would decide to update itself when I was in the middle of something that needed a lot of system resources, causing the program to crash. Try a different AV if you can, anything Cruiser listed should be a lot better than Norton. If you want a more temporary solution, you could look here to see if you are running any other unnecessary startup programs/processes.
  16. Sorry, I did mean MN instead of KB #-o I use process explorer over task manager which just lists the values in K, meaning they display as 40,000 for example rather than 40,000,000. This is the values I got whilst running Fx3 for example:

Found an Easter Egg, if you spin the galaxy on the main menu around really fast using the mouse, Will Wright's head pops up.
  18. Many thanks DV : I'll give it a shot, especially since I'm planning to upgrade various parts of my computer anyway. As far as paged pool memory goes when my computer is idle after booting: With Norton: 97K+ :ohnoes: Without: <40K

I made something...weird with the trial version. Drag and drop this into spore: Another picture: [hide=][/hide]
  20. I prefer IRC. Much easier to use and more customisable in my opinion. Group chat is also much better than others, whilst still maintaining a good 1 to 1 system.
  21. Windows XP SP2 Intel P4 HT 3.2Ghz 1GB DDR2 RAM ATI Radeon X600 256MB GPU Dell 5.1 Surround Might also mention that I'm upgrading the RAM to 2GB and the GPU to a Nvidia 8600GT 512MB soon. ;) It should run like a charm.
  22. I've found Tip.it to be the most useful site for RS info, especially since I used long before the Knowledge base released. I joined the forums not long after I started using the site. I've registered on RuneHQ, but I find their forum system and the 'advanced member' thing really annoying, so I just stuck to TIF.
  23. According to this document the offenders are NOD32, Norton and AVG (although that's only 7, which becomes unsupported soon). I'm just curious to know whether Smart Security will have any issues, as from what I've heard, it isn't nearly as resource intensive as Norton. Anyway, once my subscription is over I'll get the trial version, and then decide from there. I'd still welcome any feedback from people who've used NOD32 with source games :) Thanks again :D
  24. Edit: Finally got it, works like a charm using much less memory, except 80% of my addons don't work :(
  25. Cheers Claire  That's fixed some of my problems for now. Any info on my other question would still be appreciated.
