  1. The actual interview they extracted those quotes from, and miscredited a lot was this: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/jagex ... -interview It's three pages long, but well worth it, if you're into learning more about MechScape from a RuneScape stand point. ---- This has pretty much confirmed the majority of rumours that have been floating around this entire year. Yet it also instills major faith and confidence to Jagex from me. The way they're handling the launch and preparation for the MMO says one of the these three things. One is deeply negative, but the other one is the greatest thing ever and the last is kind of both. The first one is what I've talked about before; Jagex is just milking the hype and preparation for this new MMO, like any other game developer studios or publisher, but utilizing their nine years of knowledge as their angle. If this is true then Jagex will never gain any respect within the MMO player community, and will be deeply outcasted by the actual developers who praise Jagex for their technological advancements. I don't think this is the cause because of Jagex having such an influence in the browser-based world, and holding prestige positions within the player, developer and business niches of gaming and technology. Why would they ruin this for a short-term gain in income, that would cease to exist in 3 months time. The second possibility is that they've really found a new way to get rid of grinding, and the old ways of building an MMO, that no one has really come close to overhauling and innovating the entire experience. If Jagex does this, they will be the first, and will be overwhelmed by the masses that come to play the game, as it'll spread by word of mouth so quickly. It is a big deal when there's millions of players who want a different experience from the current, very old types of themes that MMO's are built around. XP and classes, get rid of those and innovate passionately and it'll be epic. Thought the third possibility that I get from this new article is that Jagex is overestimating what they've learned, what they've created and how they're portraying it. We've seen it before when innocent developer studios build a game based on 'supposed' statistics, that seemed really, really good to everyone, but the statistics were worded accidentally to nice, to high in expectations. Then out of that came a creation of innovative game play, but still had the same symptoms as XP and classes, and grinding, or just wasn't fun or captured the user at all. And lastly, advertising this new game play, was mis-announcing the actual content because the players only wanted to hear what they wanted, and snowballed the expectations so high, or the content wasn't up to spark with the words used to describe the 'amazing' content. Still, I have a bit more confidence than I did with that Dark Fall release, and I actually know the developers, and have played their previous games, so I just have to be believe in the second possibility more so than any other. Even if I'm being foolish from lack of MMO launches/hypes, it still remains that this is Jagex. ------------ Still everything they stated in the article was brilliant and sounded to be quite interesting and fun to play around with. I only hope that the game can be played 50 times and not be dull afterwards, or maybe there are no real mobs, but perhaps it's all PvP. <3
  2. I'm glad I wasn't disappointed in Jagex with this update. Really happy they've thought about solutions to stealing names and the like. Kudos. Also the last sentence the Dev says in that article, just gave Jagex huge positive reputation from me. Personal, comical, and laughing in the face of previous failures, thus signaling they can fix it and that they care, is such win. Probably the reason why I have so much faith in Mechscape.
  3. That guys laugh is lol.
  4. Grats Adam, Kcd, shiny, Racheya, Hartlar, steve and the rest as well.
  5. It's the next portal song tbh.
  6. [yt]urNyg1ftMIU[/yt] Best video ever.
  7. Lol, made me chuckle when there's a UK and American player, yet Canada got left out of both. GG. :( And I separated the media player into video and audio since there's going to be a large list there.
  8. With the eve of cloud-computing practically rewriting the standards of what servers are now, the continued push from companies, like Google, into the 'next phase of computing,' so called 'browser based computing' or other variants of the name, is coming closer and closer to becoming feasible. Then again, is it already here? Google feels confident enough to be advertising their upcoming O/S based around the fact that browser based computing is already possible. We see Microsoft, the giant or the ex-giant in computer history, taking notice and over the past 19 months has gone from the perspective of hardcore desk-top apps, to this whole re-re-thought perspective on what 'LIVE' is going to be. Back to Google, those that have seen the Google Wave demo, or who've gotten into the developers club for Wave, will notice how much social networking platforms are going to be integrated into Wave, in a browser of course. Then comes along the netbook market, that stunned everyone and then developers began to realize that those devices couldn't handle intensive GPU or CPU rendering, but 'our big servers can (cloud-computing)'.[/i In my opinion netbooks have really been the force behind latest explosions in online storage sites, online media player sites, in-browser games, and so much more. Yet, is it possible now, in this year, or perhaps even 2010? Is it possible to start-up your O/S, automatically launch your browser, and never look at your desktop? Of course it isn't yet, but the main reason is because there's so many different types of people using computers. Some people are the developers, some people are only here for the social scene, some are here to game, others for graphical or 3D creation...etc. And there are some problems, due to ISP's mainly. Download speeds in the U.S. are on average 3 Mb/s, China's divided, and India is on its way there. So ok, if you want to view 100 pictures, it may take awhile, if you want to download those pictures (for some crazy reason, like an electronic picture frame, or to watch in the car...etc), it'll be a bit slow/time consuming. As well, you'll probably get surprised by $40-$60 extra a month on your internet bill due to bandwidth caps. Oh and your privacy may be open to everyone or to companies like Microsoft, or Google, or the government. Thus a checklist. I don't know how many will participate here, or keep this thread alive, since it is the Tech forum, but it should be an interesting insight in how little or how far the gap is between the death of desktop computing and browser-based computing in the cloud. Basically I'm going to start this list below, probably small, and not very impressive. However over a few days or so, that list should grow from suggestions from the community, eventually covering the majority of programs needed to function properly while on the computer, for doing work and whatnot. At the same time suggestions of websites that provide solutions to the desktop program functionality can also be suggested and will be added as long as no one has something crucial to say about it. So the format]: Suggested Site/Online Programs[/u][/code] *Don't have to follow this format, but it would make it easier Example: E-Mail: G-Mail ---- Pointers: - Multiple suggestions are needed as well for just one necessary functionality, like there could be Hotmail, or some other e-mail program online that you may want to suggest. - Link to the site. - You must not go to the desktop to use it at all, even minuscule. - Eventually hide tags will be used, as well as categories used to clean the list up, if it becomes large enough. - The point is to see where we're at, and to share useful sites, as well as fun. :) ------- The Checklist E-Mail: G-Mail Instant Messenger: ebuddy Audio Media Players: Pandora Last.fm Video Media Players: YouTube Vimeo YouTube Picture Storage/Sharing: Flickr TinyPic ImageShack PhotoBucket File Transfers: MegaUpload.com RapidShare Word Processor: Google Docs Slideshow: Google Docs Spreadsheet: Google Docs Weather: Suggested Site/Online Programs Calender: Suggested Site/Online Programs Daily Paper: Suggested Site/Online Programs Tv Shows: Hulu (Americans) BBC iPlayer (UK) Movies: Suggested Site/Online Programs Voice Communication: Suggested Site/Online Programs Graphics Editor: SumoPaint Microblogger: Twitter Art Sharing: DeviantART ------ Those are just a few of things that pop into my head that I use on my desktop and in my browser. Hopefully the community can bring in their personal uses and expand this narrow list, as well as suggest online programs that offer the functionality that is necessary! Fun times.
  9. Lol, Taiwanese, Chinese, and Dubai clones. Fun. Though you probably aren't going to notice the blackened paint, the warped screen, the slower than dial-up performance, the 30 minute battery life, and the fact that you'll want to put a glove on to hold the darn device, all from one tiny thing, heat. Yea, this thing here will kill your performance, corrupt the storage device, ruin the screen, and tons of damage that is miscellaneous. Then again I'd stop t the 30 minute battery leave due to poor power consumption due to heat problems. Yea, good luck have fun.
  10. Read for perspective: viewtopic.php?f=45&t=805775 --- I'm not going to include price at all for so many reasons, both legit and not so legit, since this is the internet, and we better take advantage of it! :P Trying to edit like an MLG hosted player montage takes a long time of practice or talent with editing. Such high grade editing comes from using multiple programs, not just one editing program. Photoshop, Adobe After Effects, Sony Vegas, Plug-Ins, Tutorials for each program, Dozens of Test Clips, Dozens of Montages/Videos, are the basic requirements to getting to that high grade level. Then again, the best you'll or anyone will probably ever do is editing that is synced well with the song and the content in the video. Probably not use anything advance in Adobe After Effects (as in using tutorials to make your effects), maybe one ripped psd file in photoshop for each tage, and probably some decent but not so original/clever editing in Sony Vegas/Windows Movie Maker (With a Plug-In). Then there is also the fact that 60%-70% of all videos are put into WMM, blue background/white text intro and outro and one long, long, long song for 6 minutes of a video. Basically assess what type of level of editing you want to accomplish, or would like to start progressing towards. Editing content, music, and effects is an art and combining these three basic elements is how this art is presented. It may be corny, but it's the truth. Understand the fundamentals of syncing, picking a theme for the song(s), what kind of emotions you're going to get across in the videos you plan to make, and most importantly how passionate will you be towards this hobby? Answer this and you'll fall into one of the three categories above (roughly), and then you'll find Google to be extremely helpful. Also if you need pointers: Halo3forum.com > Halo 3 Videos (or find the Halo 3 Movie Competition Thread, the first competition, not the ongoing second one) MLGpro.com > Videos Good luck.
  11. Uh, actually no. All versions of Internet Explorer fail completely and do not get to be counted as good, neutral or anything positive. http://www.evotech.net/blog/2009/02/css ... r-support/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison ... r_features *This one starts at Browser Features, and then goes all down hill for IE from there. Then this: http://www.electronista.com/reviews/bro ... afari.html I wouldn't recommend saying IE isn't 'that bad' to be honest. You'll get ragetrolled hard, and no, not on Tip.It specifically.
  12. If you want HD on YouTube, and crystal clear quality, then make sure you record in-game in fullscreen @ 1280 x 720 game resolution (not your monitors), and then when you go to render make sure it's in any of the recommended file formats except mp3/mp4 for video and the resolution to render is at 1280 x 720. May also want to make sure in Vegas that your project settings are at 1280 x 720 as well. For Vegas or mainly for WMM when you render just render it as Windows Video 720p or the Windows XboX Video 720p. These two work the best in my opinion and are what I used in my Left 4 Dead vids. And really Rick, getting a zipped version takes like half an hour for vegas alone. And it's not entirely that bad to have Vegas over WMM, when even the simple things like 'transitions' (that hardly get used in vegas) are larger in the variety, as well as the effects. Using WMM you're limited to the amount of effects, unless you get add-on FX's, which are far more of a hassle than just downloading something.
  13. This is actually pretty epic. Like the chance to meet the mastermind behind such interesting feats in Java is far more exciting than meeting the Runescape CM or select high-profile J-Mods. Pretty cool to whoever wins, and if they do win, they better take tons of pictures if permitted.
  14. What company isn't milking the games, aside from the most popular companies in this thread? Like really, sometimes government regulation isn't always a bad thing.
  15. Yay a game that was announced nearly two months ago is finally getting the credit it should have been gathering this entire time! Game will undoubtedly be a hit for many years, especially when 'they' crack it, and make custom levels for it...Or you know we wait 6 months for 60 new levels to do. I like the first option though. Truly the most unique and promising game presented at E3 since ever. I'm just a little senile in that they manually went and created the artwork, and implemented the objects themselves, and didn't have some automatic way to draw out the objects. Basically instead of hardcoding the objects they should have innovated some code so that if someone typed in an object it would be found on the internet, or somehow through AI or probability or whatever, and just create the object there. So instead of six months (or longer) or dictionary reading, and coding objects to interact with other objects, it would only take 2 months, and majority being polishing of the probability results. That would have been great, but if the game succeeds and others use the same type of technology, the above will most likely become existent, if it isn't already. Still, as long as it works and you can't stump it, I'm not going to complain more.
  16. A lot of games, especially FPS games, are trying to get some variation of a Zombie type mode in their games. Like one or two games started doing it however long ago, but since the popularity in Sci-Fi games with zombies/undead in them, developers have just realized the potential and appeal that zombie/alien/weird monster sci-fi creature killing spree modes are to consumers. And they're right about it, it is fun, too bad the majority aren't even half baked. When games like Combat Arms instill their own version of a zombie mode, and Combat Arms is a free FPS like Warrock, Sudden Attack, Blackshot and Crossfire, you know that a fad or trend in FPS's, at the least, has already begun to be a repetitive and annoying feature. So I'm not entirely enthralled to have a version or spin-off of this fad in the game, unless it provides something innovative compared to the other clonies.
  17. This is why Valve should drop support for consoles altogether and focus entirely on the PC. <3 Even though that's saying god bye to well over 80 million potential customers, I don't think the bad rep Valve receives from the console populace is worth supporting them. That or ditch Microsoft and go make a deal with the desperate Sony. :P So mudmen and hazmat zombies...two more uncommon-common infected to go, or did I miss something these past six days? --- Crash Course may bring us some background history on the four original characters too, which could be interesting.
  18. Sticky nades will be epic. It'll be fun to choose between using sticky nades, or regular nades or whatever else kind of nades are available fr competitive leagues and how they limit how many of each nade you can have... Yep, looks epic.
  19. This is an old trick, lol...Can't believe people would get out of their NBC when asked to, when they're pking. Good fail.
  20. There's actually a full gallery of the Swamp Level and the Spitter: http://www.ripten.com/2009/07/23/new-le ... d-as-hell/ As well as an article, incorporated with videos: http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/100/1006010p1.html So you get a description of what is going on and what to look for in the short previews. Really excited about the Swamp level, cause seriously, it looks so dynamic. Especially if the AI is seriously able to change our pathways, the wooden paths should change and geez, that's a whole new twist on things. Especially since the water is suppose to slow you down. Everything about the Swamp level just sounds epic. Loving the mudmen as well. [hide=Swamp Poster][/hide] Still the Spitter looks creepy and weird as anything I've ever seen. It's practically disturbing. Now let's hope that the other campaigns are just as diverse as these campaigns are.
  21. First Nations people in Canada disadvantaged? Yea right. Or did we forget the discounts on everything, the reduced or entirely not present taxes on goods and on salaries, the money received from unemployment as long as you're a student, having 2000 First Nations put through University for free through well known math, science and other academia tests, the government assisting in payments for debt, loans, grants, houses, cars, food, and if you have a child you don't have to work if you mind renting an apartment for the rest of your life. Totally disadvantaged.
  22. That's only for priority. If you wait you'll be transferred over for free. They're just cashing in on the demand to be first on the server. Meh, can't complain as they already stated this back in January.
  23. Yea, yea, yea, last post was back in February, some may say to let this game die, but meh - it's proving to be something worthwhile. The developers have, since February, been working hard on the game and fixing the issues that made the game so freaking horrible. To my surprise when I came back to read about the game and find out what was happening, the mood was much more relaxed than it was at pre-launch and beta testing time. The ridiculous bugs like godmode, teleporting, going invisible and the like cease to exist. The lag and crash issues (that I never had) have been 'reduced' significantly as well. And the way the developers have been keeping tabs on the community forums, keeping devblogs up and keeping people informed on what is going on behind the scenes is really showing that they do have a lot of dedication to this game, and perhaps in another 6 months, the game will be how it should have been on release. Or perhaps sooner. Go read this over: http://www.darkfallonline.com/expansion/ That is a FREE expansion, with the release of the North American servers. I always had a ping of 35 to 40 from Canada to their European servers. That's just incredible in all honesty, but now with localized country servers, the pings should be epic. This expansion however isn't a technical one, it's the content that was 'suppose' to be in the package on release. Technically they didn't lie, they lived up to their promise for an American release, but not for the Europeans...:P But yea, just read the descriptions for the player owned houses, city tools, and everything else in there. The amount that you can do with the towns, the houses and everything else is pretty overwhelming, and a lot more than I thought was actually going to be useful for. Then again make up your own decisions and go read the forums; I'm so confident I'll link you directly to the forum: http://forums.darkfallonline.com/forumdisplay.php?f=9 Then you can go check out the booming clan side of things too, since there's supposedly 200+ player involved sieges daily: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Dlzr7C-v0s Few sieges on this page: http://covenantofthephoenix.com/forums/index.php Editing isn't the greatest but the content is good. I don't know if anyone left this to die or actually kept tabs on it, or played it at all, but so far it's looking so much better than it previously was before. Like I said before another 6 months goes by and we'll see a completely new face on the game. Hate me for bumping this or not, its worth giving the info.
