  1. My bad, I thought the min requirement for the quest cape added to around 8-9 mil xp... I must say I didn"t check it first though. And the time spent doing the quest can easily be approximated to 150 hours, which is a lot of work IMO. I agree with that. I prefer my 99 melees over my 95 cooking, though you could add that 94 cooking is better than 91 for sharks cooking and 99 cooking is better than 91 for manta rays and turtles... Even though the formers are not used a lot for training. I was just saying there are lot of maxed out melees out there. And that it was really easy to level. I remember before revs, some friends of mine would just put their char at the magic axes, go take a shower and come back 10 minutes later to eat some food... 3 items melee training.
  2. You have to do the quest Smoking Kills... yeah another quest to add to your list! It"s really a must for anyone planning on training slayer.
  3. We really should include melee skills cape in these somewhat "noob" skills cape. There are so many players with 99 melees these days. It"s really easy getting combat xp having 3 items in low lvl wildy without paying attention to the screen and it costs nothing. I am maxed out melee and still haven"t gotten around to get my 99 cook because the skill bores me to death. The quest cape may take only 60-70% xp of a single 99 but the time it takes to complete the quest... let"s say 1 hour per quest for nearly 150 hours of play time should account for something. Anyway, all those skill capes will stay in my bank as my fire cape is definatly better in comparison stats-wise. I will always be impressed by a slayer cape (being 98 slayer, I know that even cannoning tasks it"s quite an accomplishment), hunter cape (that skill gives me headaches...so I can"t train it), RC cape (talk about slow xp...), Agility cape (nearly useless skill above 90 and boring... hats off to anyone 99 in that skill), construction cape (anyone willing to pour that much money for a 99 or a cape is... weird, but it gets my attention) and last one is mining (so many clicks... considering most 99ers will powerlevel with dropping techniques). If the purpose of this game is to get all skills to 99... might as well start with the fastest ones. So a noob skillcape is just the first step. Not such a bad move IMO. Getting a cape for the sake of having one in not in the spirit of gaming in my view though as playing this game is meant to have fun, not for looks or pride.
  4. Ohhh someone else remembers the slayer thread Ray made... As for going back on topic, the best advice I can give you is play for fun and just don"t spend brainlessly on the G.E. The cash will keep growing and you"ll find yourself one day with a bank worth 300 mil like me. I make most of my money through slayer, farming and clueing. But that"s what I like best about this game. You get to choose.
  5. I agree. Except you did suggest melee was useless. That"s an opinion, but you should have given it more back-up. Saying : I"d suggest ranging them as they have easy to find safespot and low ranged def would have been perfectly helpful. In fact, I also think ranging them is great, I used to do it all the time before I got 99 ranged. Now I train my slayer with melee as it is usually faster than ranged.
  6. You can range almost all monster in RS. Only cyclops are immune to it. I take it you mean training range from a safe spot. The OP asks about melee and you suggest ranging them as melee is useless... in your opinion. You are clearly not helping him, you are rather pushing him in your way of training based on... your definition of efficiency without facts to back you up. That is a pretty lame advice. Going back on topic. 1- good crimson dropper, not the best one 2- as people said: no 3- depending on your stats, I average 55-60k xp meleeing them in the Chaos Tunnel when it is not too crowded with maxed out melee, pots and t-bird. But that"s with bandos, sara GS and on slayer task only.
  7. expect around 6,5 herbs per seed on the long run. That's averaging the ones that die once in a while.
  8. for xp... i'd wait till 90+... but for money, start right away at 60 unless you can cut and bank eucalyptus easily...
  9. you get about 10% more money per hour fishing sharks than monks... but about 1/3 the xp. You get get also 10% more moey cutting magics than yews... but you get about 1/2 the xp.. hope it helps you all, I tested this at 94 wc and 91 fish.
  10. Wow, that's the best thread ever! Kids whinning and blaming JaGeX for their misbehaviors. I know customer support is not Runescape's strongest point but you gotta admit this thread has some of the most intellectually deprived examples of in-game dialogues. Don't take it all personnaly, this is a generalisation of most post I read.
  11. Well, everyone has to learn the skill first, then master it. Not everyone goes through that process. Some people can master it and still hate it. In my opinion there are 4 kinds of master. Thoses who hate the skill and only level it through lamps, mini games and quest rewards, those who hate it and level it with expensive trees and fruit trees (getting nice XP at a major loss), those who love it and do all specials, allotment, bushes, trees and fruit trees run at a profit and the last ones also love the skill, but will combine profit through herbs, bushes and specials but will plant the highest trees and fruit trees for max XP and a slight loss. That 5 minutes work can be debated though. I do 2 types of farming run : the long one will take around 45-50 minutes and i'll do herbs, 3 bushes, all specials, trees and fruits trees while making some super compost. The short one will take much less time, around 20 minutes, and it mainly a herb and bush farming run while making super compost. That one is usually very profitable.
  12. you can profit from oaks and willows (if you cut branches and sell) You can profit from fruit trees up to orange I think, picking the fruit. Curry is a loss or breaks even. All other trees will cost you except fruit trees if you harvest enough fruit from them to break even before cutting them and replanting. The rest is up to you.... profit or fast farming xp.

    Welcome to runescape...
  14. Can anyone who has tested thoroughly these methods answer me? Aside from getting str xp, is bare handed fishing faster, slower or equal to normal harpoon training? Is fishing with a kebbit harpoon faster compared to normal harpoon? Has someone measured it? I know having one more fish per load will result in less banking thus more fishing... resulting in more xp per hour. I just want to know if someone tested these rates and can give me some stats. Please only post if you have some results, I'm not interested in opinions or untested approximations.
  15. I was on the same boat as you until i figured a way to plan my runs efficiently and make a lot of GPs through farming herbs. Before the trade limits, you could buy seeds from newbies or non-farmer for a fraction of their value (e.g. snap seeds could be bought for less than 5k and kwuarms around 1k easily).
  16. I agree, just saying if you want to rush the skill and level at the fastest pace possible, you will need to pay whatever they ask for garanteed health. Hence the argument : speed vs money.
  17. It's better not to pay according to your formulas ( the 1/8th thingy), but it's faster exp as you're getting garanteed health. From that point it's a matter of speed vs money. G luck farming, it's one of my favorite skill. Once you have that run all set up, farming can be pretty fast and profitable.
  18. I consider all forms of name-calling to be offensive. I even forbid my parents to use my real anymore. I'm knownas "that guy" at my job and I still find it borderline offensive. I prefer when people just say "hey" and point at me when they want my attention. Last time I got called noob in-game, I nearly threw my computer out the window, it's a good thing I live in a basement, it nearly saved my sanity. Well that was my 2K cents, I'm off to the therapist! She better not call me a sad-sick-noob again!
  19. For money, not worth it compared to other methods of making money. For fun and "pride" , then it's up to you. I go for 99 slayer because I like the skill, 793k xp away atm.
  20. Unless they changed it, you can get all herb seed from master farmer. They are not the best way to get high level herb seed however. Elves, cave horrors, nechryeal, aberrant spectres are amongst the best high lvl herb seed dropper.

kill green dragons, definatly one of the best money maker for 60+ combat
  22. langer replied to compfreak847's topic in Rants
Yeah same here, but unlike the newer players, we had a good time on slayer. Prices are now lower and we can't compare slayer now and slayer 3 years ago... What compfreak says is : there's money to be made in slayer, it adds up, but it's not near as good as the best methods out there. Which is painfully right to anyone who wants to raise slayer in the intention of getting combat xp. ohhhh and remember before the trade limit and the newbies didn't know that Snapdragon seeds were useful? Wow did I make good money farming those... sorry for off-topic comment!
  23. As a certain compfreak would rightfully say if he were to give you advice. Train it only if you enjoy the skill and want to get higher levels in it. Making money and getting combat xp through slayer is not the most efficient way out there. Sure JaGeX might release some 95 slayer monster, but chances are it will have rubbish drops like the dark beast. Bad combat xp and slight profit. I keep on slaying still at 98 slayer for the fun of the skill.
  24. It may well be 6 herbs per seed. I get the impression though that when I started farming 2 years ago, you'd get more herbs on average then these days. Might not be true, but eh, herb farming is already very profitable who's gonna complain right?
