  1. My laptop (Approximately the same specs as Nadril's) was cheaper than a Macbook, and can do just about everything better. As far as I'm concerned. On the other hand, Macs look cool. ...Yeah.
  2. I thought you meant that there were two teachers who were married. That happened at my middle school, and the male teacher had a close female-teacher-friend. (Not his wife) So my friend assumes they're dating, and yeah... And thanks. ;)
  3. That's what I love about my teachers this year. In the past, the respect was one-way, and teachers were only there for teaching. I can maintain a good conversation with any of my current teachers, as if I was talking with a classmate. In fact, many of my classes go that way. They somewhat respect me, I respect them.
  4. I sit cross-legged as well, usually my right foot will be on my left knee. Strangely enough, the only other person I know who does this naturally/as a habit is my best friend. And it's not like we've ever talked about how we sit...(And we've both sat like this before we met, so it's not like we influenced each other...) At my computer/laptop, I might lean back and have my feet on my desk. Nearly did that today at school, whoops.
  5. For some reason, I learned in math today that Chile is one of the freest countries in the world. I don't know where America places. "Treebeard: This is not our war. Merry: But you're part of this world, aren't you? You must help...Please." America is part of this world. Anything that happens will probably affect us. What's wrong with trying to affect those changes so they benefit us? (Note: I'm not a huge fan of America, the education is crap to be honest and that means a lot to me because I'm nerdy and Asian. I much prefer Taiwan and prefer being Taiwanese, but I don't go around constantly bashing America, and those who do get rather annoying...)

So my math teacher wasn't here today. My school is bankrupt (We're building the most expensive school in Massachusetts/New England - I think) and we can't afford subs, so if a teacher isn't here the class is simply canceled, and freshmen/sophomores have to go to the cafeteria. (We can talk, do homework, etc. We simply can't aren't supposed to leave school grounds) Anyway, being the only freshman in the class, and having switched in halfway through the year, I knew basically no one in my class. A group of people (Mainly orchestra people, I'm not in orchestra but my sister is, so they know here and kind of know me) were at a table, so I decided to sit with them. For some reason, we ended up all doing our math homework, and then a guy random says "Do not trust to hope. It has forsaken these lands." Something about it sounded familiar, and it dawned upon me that it was from Lord of the Rings. I quickly followed up with "There never was much hope. Only a fool's hope." We spent the rest of the period quoting LotR. Fun. (And I managed to finish all my homework, yay)
  7. Well, the first thing I thought of was that thing where you cut a rectangle/square in half, then again and again and again... I have no idea what it's called. (Something to do with geometric sequences?) But I guess it can apply here?
  8. Yeah, you basically level up by doing quests. The quests are nothing special, your usual "kill x of x" or "go talk to y". Skatedog, if you didn't realize, you can access a special area after you get your second class. Apparently you're suppose to use the quests there to level up your secondary class, while using the ones in the normal world for your primary. Screenshots? Here are some. [hide=Taken by me][/hide] Better than RuneScape's, that's for sure. ;)
  9. Hm. My math teacher in 7th grade was awesome. Not funny in an offensive way, the hilarious-type of funny. He happened to be my [best] friend's dad, so I already knew him. (Heh, been to his house quite a few times, even been in his car :) ) He was really lenient, we spent basically the entire class going over homework on a tangent, we knew his life story by the end of the year. To top it off, he has an amazing accent, a blend of Bostonian and Chinese. Hilarious as hell, and he insists on repeating "kay" and "aight" over and over, though I'm pretty sure by now he does it on purpose. Everyone loved him and we actually did learn some things. (Okay, we learned how to not build a tunnel, I'm sure that has something to do with math...) My Latin teacher earlier this year is a legend throughout the school. He is extremely fit, especially for his age (Which no one knows). He claims to run like five miles a day and swim a mile or two as well, which isn't hard to believe if you've ever seen his muscles, and he played football and baseball in college. On the other hand, he's probably the smartest teacher in the school. He doesn't have a TV or computer, and spends all his free time exercising or reading. He tries to read a book a day, his classroom is lined with bookshelves filled with books about basically every topic imaginable. Now, the crazy part? He's been struck by lightning, he's seen a bear (Not in a zoo, in the wild), apparently he ran 50 miles once, he read the dictionary, he knows Anglo-Saxon, Latin, Greek, English and probably 10 other languages, and he looks exactly like Einstein. Believable? If you knew him, there would be no doubt that he's not lying. Now, my current teachers are all great. My physics teacher is a pyromaniac, my tech teacher is a gamer (Played Need For Speed one day in class, Starcraft is installed on one of the computers there :P ), my math teacher is a musician and plays music throughout the class, etc. ;)
  10. Well, let's see. My English teacher actually tells us to not study. We go over everything right before the test. This might make him seem like a terrible teacher, but I've learned more from him than any other teacher I've ever had. :P Otherwise, I have a pretty good memory, and I learn well by writing, so I can usually remember the notes I've taken easily. Things like vocab (For Latin/French...Not Chinese, it's too hard  ) are simple enough for me then, as well as random facts for history. (Though just to be safe, I generally type up my notes so I can have them all in one place, and read them over and over) In 7th grade, my biology teacher had us create study sheets. I would copy my notes over and over, only looking when necessary, until I was able to do it purely from memory. Sometimes I'll be reviewing sections in my textbook, assume I'm done, close the book, only to realize I forgot something, and spend a few more minutes searching for what I'm looking for. Repeat this a few times and I'll be good, only wasting an hour or so. :)
  11. I don't know why but I think school should start and end earlier then when it usually does. Well obviously basically all schools start and end at different times. Some already start fairly late, but end late, like Lenticular's. Some start too early for my liking (7:50 is actually fine for me, but I know people who start at 7:00-7:30...), and could really use a push back. Of course, starting early means ending early, which is has benefits and consequences, and the same goes for starting late and ending late. Eh.
  12. Realistically, the current system is probably the most effective. If you put too many days between classes, students will start forgetting things. Over winter break, I did absolutely no writing, I barely knew how to pick up a pencil when I got back in school. (Of course, probably nothing would happen over 3 days, but you never know...) My school always starts at 7:50, ends at a different time basically every day (2:20, 2:35, 2:55). The only thing I would ever think of supporting is starting 30-60 minutes later, and ending 30-60 minutes later. Implementing a 4-day school week would make teachers have to assign more homework daily. And having less time to do homework each night too. Yeah, no thanks.
  13. I played it for a week or two, it's on the better side of free MMORPGs. I didn't quit because it sucked or anything. It's actually pretty good. I simply don't have time anymore. (Well, I do, I'd just rather play other games) I was a rogue/mage, probably not the smartest combo but a blend of my two favorites. I said it was really similar to RuneScape in the Darkfall thread, and I still think it is. However, unlike Runescape's click-point-wait combat system, it's your normal MMORPG system. Still not as great as real-time combat, but much better than RuneScape. The gathering skills and stuff really are what makes it that much like RuneScape (Besides the name...), you basically spend some time gathering resources, then you go to a certain area where you refine them or something. It is in Open Beta, and I expect a lot of things to be fixed, especially the English. One time, I was given a quest in Chinese. I managed to get the gist of it, but seriously? And another time, it told me to kill x monster in x location, which was actually completely incorrect. Wasted a ton of time on that. The graphics are actually quite good, the first major city (Forget its name) actually feels/looks quite a lot like a city. The first time I rode my horse through its gates, I felt like Gandalf riding Shadowfax up the streets of Minas Tirith. :P (For the record, it is basically a Korean grindfest, but that shouldn't be surprising)
  14. I've always used yellow because I'm Asian. #-o Am I the only one that finds the white crayon to be shinier than the others? I guess it could be like Goddess said, it adds a glare or something. SHINY.
  15. Live the good life now. But don't screw it up. Then your life may be even shorter. What's the point of life? I wish I knew a good Confucius quote for this, but I'll refer to Shakespeare (As You Like It, my school put it on last year  ). "All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players; they have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts." Make an impact, play your part. Yes, finding joy is a great experience that is everyone should strive for, but it's rather short-lived. Your impact is eternal, no matter how big or small. That said, I obviously wouldn't mind feeling happy once in a while. :P
  16. How would you define bullying? Is joking around, calling your friends names bullying? Is friendly teasing bullying? Or are we talking about bullying, where a guy generally much bigger than you ridicules you every chance he gets, basically every day? I take it you've never been bullied. Most school administrations, in my opinion, actually need to boost their anti-bullying systems. It's rather pathetic how many teachers/principals simply tell the bully to just stop. Like that's totally going to work.
  17. You have no strategy games on your list, so I'm a bit reluctant to recommend Starcraft and AoE I + II, but they're that awesome. They're all from like pre-2000 so you shouldn't have any problems.
  18. Then why don't they just kill themselves? :-k I don't have a statistic, but some do. Like in school shootings. Usually the shooter kills himself in the end. I suppose it's usually because he thinks his life sucks, not because he's afraid of the punishment. I don't know.
  19. Ah, yes. Does anyone actually bother to read all these posts? (Oh fine, I'm sure some of you did. I almost did.) 1. What is your job? I live in my mother's basement. I don't think I can get a legal job. Of course, illegal jobs on the other hand... 2. Do you have any nicknames? Not that I'm aware of. 3. What famous celebrity/fictional character do you look like? Yeah um, since all Asians look the same, people have told me anyone between Jackie Chan and Confucius. 4. What famous celebrity/fictional character do you want to most look like? The Mouth of Sauron. 5. What are you most proud of in life? Staying alive. Being pretty good at math. 6. What do you regret most in life? You don't want to ask me this question. If I had the time, I would type up a few pages to answer this. And then regret the time I wasted. To keep it short - Not taking some once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. 7. Pancakes or waffles? Pancakes. 8. Favorite cookie flavor? Peanut butter + chocolate chips. 9. What is the most expensive thing you have bought? I technically haven't bought anything (My parents spoil me...), but I guess my laptop. 10. What is the most expensive thing you have broken? A floppy disk-USB converter thingy. Hey, they were expensive back in the day...(Probably not, my Gamecube probably cost more) 11. What is the funniest thing you've seen? YOUR FACE HAHAHAH NO 12. What's your dream meal (appetizer, entree, and dessert)? Food? Who needs food... 13. If you could go back in time, what year would you go to and why? The year 3018 of the Third Age. Or 485 BC. Confucius's last years, and 5 years before Thermopylae. 14. Pizza, yeeeeeeaaaaahhhh or naaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh? Obviously depends on toppings. But yeeeeeeeeahhhh.
  20. Also, straight A's apparently aren't too special anymore. Remember the GPA thread? But then, I refer to 1_man_army's signature.
  21. So you can be 15, have rich parents, but also have cancer, with a few months left to live, and can't complain about how your life sucks? (I'm sure that's not what you meant ;) ) I suppose it's a somewhat rare scenario, and I agree, I hate spoiled people. But being rich doesn't automatically make you spoiled and your life great. Possessions might not mean anything to someone. To be serious (My gun comment was somewhat sarcastic), I would make smoking in public places, with exceptions (Have designated smoking areas or something?), illegal.
  22. Oh come on, stop posting those games with the name in the pic. :P I mean, I can read Chinese (Kanji? Apparently it's basically the same?), so I know what it is. (And I've played it) I don't have anything good to post though, so I'll let someone else get it.
  23. You do realize that the Gaza Strip is extremely small and narrow? I don't know the blast radius of Israel's nukes, but I'd imagine unless they hit a certain few targets, they would hurt themselves a bit. Also, I'm pretty sure there's a minimum distance a nuke can be fired. I obviously don't know where Israel stores their nukes, but the Gaza Strip could be too close.
  24. Guns. Zierro, Venomai...Round two. ;) As for all the religion stuff, thought you guys would know to not feed the troll, and I agree, I like learning about religions. It's one of the reasons I love this year's history class, we've been studying major religions and philosophies for the past few months. And obviously no one is going to be converted, and no one should be offended, so it's all good.
  25. Morally, I'd say no. Realistically, I'm kind of torn. Torture is worse than death, in my opinion. However, it's more expensive, and this country right now should have higher priorities than keeping criminals alive. Actually, I'm undecided morally. Your rights end when they meet another person's right. By killing someone, you take their right to live (Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness), so you should technically lose your rights as well. I'm trying to figure out how effective it would be though. People still kill people today, despite fully knowing the possible consequences. Why would the possibility of death would stop them?
