  1. Well that was interesting. My school has some 2000 people. I don't know how many people our auditorium can hold, but I've estimated at least 1000 people squeezed in today. Add in a few hundred people in the library, and basically the whole school was watching. Thankfully I was one of the first people there, and managed to get a seat. Though no one really sat, standing ovation after standing ovation... My history teacher (I mentioned earlier, he's black, and basically idolizes Obama...) was close to tears, and he gave us transcripts of the awesome speech, only about an hour after it took place. (I know, I know, it was written beforehand...)
  2. Eh. I was watching House and 24 tonight, every single commercial break, there would be something about how Obama's inauguration is tomorrow. Two things: 1. No [cabbage] it's tomorrow. I'm not a hobbit, you know? 2. Do you seriously have to blare it every commercial break? Once every three or four is fine, I realize it's a historical moment and all that. But every 10 minutes is over the top. Hell, not many people turn on their TVs and then shut it off 10 minutes later, especially in the middle of a TV show... Anyway, I go to a high school in one of the most liberal cities in perhaps the most liberal state in the country. Over 80% of the people at my school support Obama. The principal has basically been forced to allow it to be shown in the library, and there's a rumor that you are allowed to skip class to watch (And it'll be an excused absence). I'm kind of sure this is true, as people are simply going to skip otherwise...(My teacher is awesome, he's said that we're most likely going to watch it. Too bad I don't have history during it, my history teacher is a huge supporter of Obama - and he's black. And there's a diehard Republican kid in my class that's constantly bashing Obama/democrats.)

What video game isn't? :? I was going to go over to my friend's house to play RB2 today, but I was feeling sick and stayed home instead. :(
  4. I used to that until my friend told me to turn that [cabbage] off... I don't think people are aware that others can hear it. I'm pretty paranoid about that, so once in a while I'll take my headphones off and hold them away at a distance...If I can still hear the music, down goes the volume. I was on the subway one time, and this guy was blasting his music...It was as if he wasn't even using headphones. I wonder if he plugged it in right...
  5. Slightly off topic - I've found that the stuff in my dreams usually has some sort of relationship to what happens to me during the day. I remember one time, we had a discussion here about redheads (I have no idea why?), and that night, the only redhead I know was in my dream. So the scariest...Eh. I don't exactly remember how it goes... It started with me watching the news (On a news website, reading a newspaper?), and there was something about a kindergarten class being slaughtered and hung on poles. Later on in the dream, my school is on fire. My backpack, with all my stuff, as well as a few of my friends, are on the other side of the flames. I start running around, apparently it's dark all of a sudden and there's a thunderstorm. I end up outside, and I see terrorists, whipping my classmates around. I get dragged over, and they make me do push-ups. As I do them, I see my school crumble to pieces. Rather random, now that I'm reading it over. (There was also that dream in which dinosaurs invaded my house, but that was when I was 4 and I barely remember it)
  6. For some reason, I find him similar to Tolkien. Or Tolkien similar to Shakespeare. My teacher this year is assigning us four Shakespeares, and all we're doing is reading them. (And he provides page-by-page summaries) I must say, this is a lot better than what I've been forced to do in the past...
  7. It's always good to be able to talk with people, with a certain degree of anonymity. And it's also good to be able to talk with people from different backgrounds. Tip.it offers both. Sort of.

Walking in a forest at night is relaxing. I prefer sitting at the coast, watching the waves, though, especially at sunset.
  9. You aren't Chinese then. :notalk: (If you were, you would always fight for the check, if you catch my drift ;) ) And I've heard it's actually healthy. Strange. The Bible is basically the Torah + other Jewish books, and then some. So the Exodus in the Torah says the exact same thing the Exodus in the Bible says.
  10. Props to the pilot. From what I've read, he made an incredible landing. For those that didn't know, it's pretty cold up here in the northeast, so some reports mention some people with hypothermia. But still, no deaths. Amazing.
  11. Your friend was ripped off. Biting a fish eye should be in the $30-$50 range Wait, are you guys serious? The only way that makes any sense to me is if it was a live fish, or a freshly picked eye. Because plenty of Chinese people eat fish eyes. :? (You don't want to know what else we eat...) As for the whole Bible verse thing, I'm going have to agree with The_dmt here. I wouldn't be surprised, but I don't think he gouged out his wife/daughter/son's eyes. So the eye-for-an-eye wouldn't really apply. But there is a verse that says what The_dmt mentioned, and since it's much harder to commit crimes when you're missing an eye, that may be what he had in mind. Or it could simply be some random verse that's not related in any way.
  12. #1 rule of the media: Blame it on video games or rap.
  13. Well he did say that time heals everything, not that time heals everything completely :P True. And time will generally heal these kinds of things.
  14. We were number 1 for like 3 years in a row. Lol, I've never watched/read anime/manga (Yep, don't even know the difference  ). My grandma grew up in Taiwan under Japanese rule, so I've grown up hearing her stories about it. Taiwanese-Japanese relations are generally good, as far as I'm concerned. Japan is fairly well known for having a high average life expectancy, but it's not like if you move there at age 70, you'll live longer. And the technology. ;)
  15. There are some things time cannot mend...Some hurts that go too deep. ;) Perhaps playing video games helped him get his mind off it - That's true for me. The last time someone close to me died, I ended up doing math. Not only because he was a math genius, but also because it took my mind off it while it sunk in. (...And because I had a math test) As long as you don't hold on and stay in denial, it should be fine. I will agree with Zierro on this, life goes on. While mourning is by no means a bad thing, you eventually have to let go. "You cannot always be torn in two. You will have to be one and whole for many years. You have so much to enjoy and to be and to do. Your part in the story will go on."
  16. If no one could tell, I picked New Zealand 78% because of Lord of the Rings. It was filmed there, if I remember correctly, and Wellington was renamed Middle Earth for a day. Not to mention my friend lives in Dunedin, which sounds way too similar to Dunadan. ;) And the landscape is beautiful, I mean, white mountains. Oh look a reference!
  17. Well, so far, at least it's a bit more original than last season. Still your normal "shoot-everyone-blow-everything-up-trust-no-one" deal though. Edit: [hide=]About the whole Tony thing, on the 24 website where they have a list of the characters, if an agent dies they plaster a big [DECEASED] sign on their picture. That didn't happen with Tony, so there was speculation that he was still alive - Confirmed by eventual leaks. ;)[/hide]
  18. I want to live in a cabin in the middle of some woods. By myself. And somehow have electricity + internet. Taiwan is obviously a top choice of mine, I was only kind of born there. New Zealand and Japan sound like nice places too.
  19. Oh right, I've been doing this lately for no good reason. But today, I found that there was an ad for a Macbook next to an ad for some HP laptop. The Macbook was $1299, 2.0 GHz, 2 GB RAM (Upgradeable to 4 GB), a pretty good video card... The HP was $1199, 6 GB RAM (Yeah, what? I sat there for like 5 minutes staring at it with my mouth open), an even better video card than the Mac, more HD space (Twice as much, I think), just simply better specs overall. And cheaper. Well. :P
  20. Ramen. And a blueberry muffin. Not together. :?
  21. Two. Massachusetts was the first, Connecticut followed this past year. But that's still very few. :| I agree though, America may not be the best country in the world. But yeah, nothing wrong with American pride, as long as you don't boast about how great America is. (I'm not saying America isn't great...I acknowledged how powerful it is in a past post)
  22. For some reason I can't explain, I was giving him the benefit of the doubt. Innocent until proven guilty perhaps. But yea, he hasn't given his side. Eh.
  23. Technically, Muslims are supposed to pray five times a day at specific times, some of which fall during lessons. They manage, just like Jews do in France on a Saturday. Yeah, that made me reluctant to post. But if you have a large Jewish population (I don't think you guys do in the UK or Australia? So my point wouldn't apply...) then there would definitely be issues. And as mentioned, it wouldn't be very fair if everyone worked for five days except for teachers. Ah, well life ain't fair. Eh.
  24. The easiest way to counter bullies is to ask "why?" Not why so serious. You can ask that too. But really, why do bullies bully? It's usually for attention. They're like trolls online. They want you to respond. Ignoring them often works. Embarrassing them can work too, especially in front of their friends. I was walking down the hallway once and a group of "tough guys" were waiting against the wall, and as I passed, I noticed one of them stuck their foot out to trip me. I jumped over it, he was stunned, his friends laughed at him. Punching him wouldn't have been half as effective. ;) Also, I've found that bullies tend to only target you when you're alone. Sticking with friends often works.
  25. For those suggesting 6 day weeks: Though I agree on how nice it would be ending the school year earlier (Or perhaps ending school days earlier/starting later), wouldn't it conflict with religious people? Jews go to temple on Saturday (I think?), Christians have church on Sunday...Which one do you take?
