Hm, interesting. All I can say is that they are rather graphic, both with sex and violence. And extremely long. There's a good length that Tolkien and Rowling hit...Not too short (So there can be a good plot), but not too long (So it doesn't drag on and on...So long that you don't remember what happened earlier on).
  2. Wait...Touhou? Or some random other Japanese game that is ridiculously similar? If it is...No idea which one.

Because we're hijacking this topic as no one likes Twilight: Of course Tolkien wasn't a bad writer. I mean, apparently I'm the opposite of N0M - I was bothered by the fact that he stuck so many random poems/songs into the books. And yea, he had a rather unique writing style, but maybe that was what was "in" during his time, like how books about vampires and girls are popular now. But I'm agree on the fact that he created an incredible universe, with numerous languages (Which are more than just a few words, Sindarin has complicated grammar rules and there's a huge vocabulary list somewhere) and races. Never read Sword of Truth, N0M? I thought you would have. I don't know how they compare to most of the books on your list, but I've heard they're quite similar to Wheel of Time. As for Harry Potter, the first four were classic. There's a reason I tried reading them all in the same day when I was in fourth grade. The last three were not as great, but still good. Except for the end of Deathly Hallows. No. Just no. I'll keep this slightly on topic...If people want vampire stories, Stephen King tops Twilight, no doubt about it. But oh wait - His vampires aren't sexy.
  4. Sworddude, wasn't that the same one you posted last time? I remember I got that, after you said it was the same game in your sig. Some Googling did the trick. ;)
  5. Quoting myself from another thread - "It's the attitude, the intention, rather than the actual actions." Murderers and failed murderers have the same intention. Though their actions were different, they still wanted to do the same thing. So same punishment.

My mom is the nice one, but her English is a failure (Honestly, I laugh when she tries to speak it...That's why I speak to her in Chinese ;) ). My dad is the anti-social geeky one who sucks at parenting. They met in a psych ward. In the hospital where I was born. :? Edit: I decided I'll be a bit more descriptive. My mom was born in Taiwan, in a rural suburb, if that makes any sense. She went to NTU and BU, became a psychiatrist. (Or psychologist, don't remember) My dad was born in Hong Kong, but under British rule. So he's British. And has a British accent. He went to NTU and HSPH, now working part-time at HSPH, and doing other epidemiological work for some other companies. Very medical family. (My sister is seriously considering becoming a surgeon...) Meaning I'm the odd one out. Can't stand that stuff.

Now we're getting a tad off-topic, but all I have to say is that I like Tolkien better for that fact that he created such an in-depth world than for his writing. (I admit, I was bored at some points too) I can't wait for some Twilight fangirl to come in here and try to start pulling apart all our posts.

lol Tolkien was such a boring and pretentious writer My sarcasm detector is beeping, but that may be because it's out of batteries. If you were serious, to each his own. At least LotR is generally accepted as good, while Twilight...Is not...

I have to be honest though...If someone wrote something like that to bash Lord of the Rings, I would most likely respond in the same way. But Twilight is not Lord of the Rings. It doesn't even compare to Lord of the Rings. Or Harry Potter. Or any other [bleep]ing good series.

Like basically all of you, all I know is that all the girls at my school, both popular and unpopular, are screaming "TWILIGHT EDWARD CULLEN SEXY OMG OMGOM OMGOMO VAMPIRES YAY TWILIGHT YAY YYAYHAYYAYYAYYAYY" ...Yea. While all I've said to them is "Screw Twilight. Lord of the Rings kicks the crap out of Twilight any day. Aragorn would rape Edward Cullen without even thinking." Obviously, they're not even comparable. That said, I've never even touched one of the books, I have no intention of (Unless I'm burning them), nor do I wish to see the movie. Other than for some laughs at how much it sucks. So how do I know they suck? I don't. But I can tell.

Kent, you play Dedede? My top five, since we're all doing that: 1. Dedede 1. Falco (Tied...?) 3. Ganondorf 4. FALCON PUNCH 5. Zelda? I think I'm going to try picking up Marth again. Former main rawr.
  12. ThurinEthir replied to Caxis's topic in Off-Topic
Good luck with Ganondorf. Hard guy to master right there...
  13. You have the right to bear arms right?Go to work in a sleeveless shirt. Actually, there is also a law that you cannot walk past Boston Commons (Basically a garden/park) without a gun. :?
  14. I had chicken pox when I was two. :? Other than that, I've been healthy for most of my life. Until now. I've had some pretty major stomach issues, need to get it checked out (Appointment is in a week or two). They might have to do an endoscopy or something, I doubt I'll need surgery though...(I hope not...)

There is NO WAY you can tell who is sarcastic or not over the internet unless you heard the other person's voice through a microphone. Agreed. Unless it's me, because 94.7% of everything I say is sarcastic. If you guys haven't realized, I haven't been playing much Brawl lately (I don't know how you would figure that out, but you now know...)...I decided to actually open Super Mario Galaxy (Which I've had for some 7 months) and I've been playing that. :? (It's nowhere as good as Brawl though...)

Snake's recovery is actually pretty good because of that "glitch" where he blows himself up. I don't remember if Link/Toon Link can do that too, I doubt it though. Sonic's B isn't that great, if I remember correctly, it actually moves you downward if there is no enemy around. Which could easily be the case in a 1v1. Metaknight and ROB have the best recoveries, correct? King Dedede and Kirby also have great recoveries, and Pit's is overrated but still good.
  17. Did you know that RuneScape was actually considered cool at my school for a while? :uhh:
  18. ThurinEthir replied to Caxis's topic in Off-Topic
Metaknight. As well as best everything else. Sonic's recovery is pretty lousy compared to a lot of characters. :?
  19. Wicked cold today though, especially with the windchill...My mom said it was 30 F during the day, so there's no doubt it'll be cold enough. Whether there'll be precipitation is the question...
  20. Ehh, you don't have to have a long title to be different. "Nonconformist" works just fine for me. Non-conformity is a myth. If your not conforming to one, your conforming to another. In my opinion, what makes someone a nonconformist isn't what they do, but rather why they do those things. It's the attitude, the intention, rather than the actual actions.
  21. The thing I always tell the few people who blast socialism at my school - Stop listening to everything your parents and the government are feeding you. Learn to think for yourself. I won't say that here though (Though with yomyth...), as most of you bring up some really good points. I kind of lean socialist, I suppose. I'm surprised that though I live in a town with ridiculously wealthy people, I'm not dead yet. What surprises me more? Some of those people are socialist as well.
  22. Why? Can't you have .5 degrees? :?
  23. Everybody knows you can't be asian if your parents never punished you with a belt for scoring anything bar A+ on a test, if you never play D&D, eat noodles, become the chess club grandmaster, watch Bruce Lee movies and Star Trek, snore math formulas during sleep, play with Warhammer 40k's, wear thick glasses & mispronounce the letter R. Sad thing is, at least one thing or another on that list is true about each of my Asian friends. ...Wow.
  24. I can see what you're saying, but that really goes against Marx's "Religion is the opiate of the people" statement. I think you'd need to be either a small group of extremely religious people like you said or a group of atheists. If you have a group of atheists though, then you need some connecting idea or thought that dispels the notion of greed. I'm not saying that's impossible, but it is easier with a universal religion that focuses on the afterlife (such as Christianity). Otherwise, a communist society would only work using humans that are different from what they are now. Since, right now, humans are greedy and I don't see that changing too soon. Original sin. :-$ In my opinion, what you're talking about is an ideal society, utopia. It's not feasible, but it would be great.
  25. I'm not sure if that was directed at me, but that was my point. No matter how many verses you quote, you can't prove if Jesus supported capitalism or communism. Separation of church and state pl0x.
