  1. I have been thinking this a lot lately, especially as I'm working on maxing out my combat level. It seems kind of futile, because I know that somewhere along the line, some new skill requiring a lot of combat training is going to come out (See also: Slayer, Summoning) and I'm going to basically have to get the exp all over again. But that's the only use I'm going to get out of my high combat levels. Sure, there are bosses. But what's the fun of just camping out at a single place and repeatedly, easily, taking down the same boss over and over? Dungeoneering was along the right idea- bosses that you have to work your way to get to. But it's still extremely flawed, and I don't honestly find it to be very much fun. And it's still turned into grinding- instead of grinding by chopping trees, or making potions, it's grinding by rushing through dungeons in the fastest, no-room-for-error way possible. I feel like the grinding and push for efficiency has taken away the slow enjoyment I used to get from skills. I remember back when there were other impressive levels besides 99. Now, 70-something skills don't mean anything. If it's not maxed, it hardly matters. As you said, I don't think runescape was ever intended to last this long. We weren't meant to all reach the highest levels. And the lack of plan for expansion is really starting to show. But it isn't jagex's fault. Runescape's mechanics just aren't built like other MMO'S. It would take such a huge overhaul to fix everything, I don't think we'd even recognise the game anymore. I personally see runescape going one of two ways. 1. The game stays as is, and jagex continues to work and update until eventually, the player base loses interest and moves along. Runescape will eventually fall. I don't see it lasting forever as is. 2. Jagex completely overhauls the entire game, and releases runescape 3. It probably will cease to be a browser-based game, and runescape will look a lot more like other MMO's. Runescape as we know it will likely go the way of RSC- still available, but not updated. Ah, but I digress. I realized about halfway through typing this post that I really don't have much of a point to make. The whole situation is really just sad. 6+ years of playing, and it's so hard to stay interested. It really is a broken game. There's nowhere left for it to go.
  2. 1. "Can I buy/borrow your [item that you are wearing]?" It's even worse when you're actively using the item, like if I'm on a slayer task and someone wants to borrow my whip or something. It's not like I carry a spare whip around on my tasks in case someone is too cheap to buy their own. 2. "How do you train [skill]?" I get this one all the time. It's one of those questions that seem simple, but it's always followed by so many additional questions that it isn't even worth trying to answer in the first place. I generally just ignore these people or direct them to the game manual.
  3. None. But if I had to choose, I'd pick the school one that gives you the book of knowledge. Everything else. But I have to say the two I hate the most are evil bob's island, and that pinball tag-the-pillars one. Overall, though, I hate all randoms. I wish they'd just get rid of them altogether.
  4. Haven't really been keeping up with posting here, but I've been accomplishing quite a bit. I've gotten a few good levels, most recently 91 str & 130 combat (finally done with the 120's, yay!), and finished the seer's elite diary and got myself an EEE. Also, today I had probably my best ever nechyrael task, with 6 pairs of rune boots. Total came to somewhere around 1.2m, it was nice. But I must have used up my good luck, since I had my first no-boots spiritual mage task. Kind of annoying. Oh well.
  5. Actually, I rarely hit 0's. In my opinion, enjoyment is more important than efficiency. And I'll continue to do my slaying the way I like it, without blowing loads of money on supplies. But that's my choice, your mileage may vary.
  6. Ah, right. I forgot about that. I don't piety tasks (don't care how efficient it is, I think it takes all of the fun out of slayer), so I use a lot less prayer pots than most people. Sorry bout that. Quyneax is right then if you're praying piety.
  7. Depends on what you mean by 'viable'. There are plenty of acceptable methods which cost a lot of money, see grimy's spreadsheets for details. Otherwise, clean herbs with mousekeys, use MTK to gather herbs for you, grow your own herbs, and use any lamps/penguin hunting exp on herb. Alternately, there's that new minigame. Not sure how good the exp is from that. You could always give it a try and see.
  8. If you intend to keep the bones and bank, using a BoB, you should only need 1 anti and 2 pray pots each trip. I do this and I get around 30 kills per trip. I consider the free prayer exp from the bones to be worth it (you'll get around 400-500k worth of pray exp per task). If not, bring about 3 antis and maybe 6-7 pray pots.
  9. Yes, but I did slayer from 85-99 attack and melee'd my steel tasks with no problems. Obviously it's faster as you get up higher, but the defense on metal dragons tends to be over-exaggerated. You just need to be using the right weapon.
  10. Okay thanks, I think I'll probably end up blocking steel dragons. You may want to give them another try once you get to kuradal's dungeon- I used to hate them but now I think they're a great task ;]
  11. This ^ But if you think about it, all the growable-tree locations are kind of outdated by now. Miscellania/etceteria tree: Can use fairy rings, or the miscellania tele scrolls (I use them, they're perfect for MTK). Port sarim tree: Cabbageport. Brimhaven tree: Chipped teletabs, or house teleport if you have your house located there. And keep in mind that in order to use one of the trees, you have to first go somewhere that gives you access to the spirit tree network. So all of the above listed methods are faster, due to being direct teleports (with the exception of the fairy rings). All in all it's kind of a moot point, so it's down to personal preference. I have no use for any of them, but I'm definitely going to use all my seeds for a pile of exp when I can plant them.
  12. Anyone who knows a good item to flip will not tell you what their item is. The more people there are that are flipping a particular item, the less money each of them will make. You're probably just going to have to try some different things and learn yourself through trial and error.
  13. Many people will probably say stock up on smithing items (bars, ores, etc), since the skill is pretty long overdue for an overhaul. But it's all speculation, really. Most weapons/armor will probably continue slowly falling. The only guaranteed solid investment would be a rare, but you don't have enough for that.
  14. Thanks crafty ^.- I finally got 95 defence! I bought a sara sword and have started my strength training, but it just feels so slow. I can't stand two-handed weapons... Oh well. I think I'll continue to 95 strength, then force myself to get through enough dungeoneering for a chaotic rapier. It would really help for getting strength from 95-99. Maybe I should do one full-prestige rush per day, so it won't take me as long later? Just rush through all my first floors and solo c6 med the last one. Hmm. Maybe. In other news, I only need around 500 more crim charms until I have enough for 88 summoning. But I'm kind of wondering what I'm even going to use the uni for? Bunyip is a cheaper pouch right now anyways, and it's always been plenty of healing. So why bother even using the unicorn? Hm. I don't really boss hunt so I'm not really sure if it'll even be useful.
  15. I did 99 attack, and now I'm going for 99 defence. People might say there's not a much change once you get up into the 90's, but I've noticed a huge difference in the accuracy of my hits.
  16. Knights of ardy to 60. Then master farmers to 70. Wilderness course Your choice, all are expensive graahk nats To add on to this: For theiving, if you enjoy minigame-style training, you can do pyramid plunder even at low levels like this. I was getting rates of around 60-70k exp/hour at level 61+, so it's not a bad option. The levels come very quickly and I personally find it pretty fun. And for herblore, you can save yourself a fair amount of money by doing your weekly penguins and using the points there. Also, make sure you're using your kingdom to gather herbs for you. Finally, don't forget to do the circus also for the easy agility exp. It's not alot (somewhere around 8k a week, I think?) but it'll save you a bit of time running circles around the agility course.
  17. Not sure what the best methods are, you'd have to calculate it yourself. It depends how much the raw fish costs vs. how much you can sell it for cooked. Remember that just because a fish is cheaper, it doesn't mean it will cost less in the long run. However, it would take you approximately: 831,000 Rocktail or 890,000 Sharks or 1,246,000 Monkfish (Anything lower than that would be a waste of your time). With sharks/rocktail you'd probably get somewhere around 250k exp an hour if I recall correctly. So that's somewhere around 725-760 hours. Good luck.
  18. Well, I didn't end up doing all the stuff I said I was gonna do. I did get 80 prayer, but that's about it. Haha. Anyways, I finally got 94 defense, and I'm around 600k from 95 now. So I'll be switching to strength soon. I'm gonna update the blog with the levels I've gotten the last couple days, then get back to my abby demon task. Come on, whip drop!
  19. I suspected that about the disease, that is why I mentioned compost (but no one ever told me about logging in and out! :() In that case, I must log in at just the correct time (approximately every 90 mins for a farm run) to reset the cycle Does anyone happen know what the length of a tree cycle is? You can find all the growth cycle lengths here: http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Seeds
  20. ^How so? And if it were an average, how come my tree is never done in less than 220 mins? All farming crops are grown in cycles. When you log out, you reset the current growth cycle. For example, if you plant an herb, it will grow in three 20 minute growth cycles (if I recall correctly). Let's say you're 15 minutes into the second growth cycle. If you log out and then log back in, you've basically just lost those 15 minutes and you're back at the beginning of cycle 2 again. The same goes for trees, but on a larger scale. Another reason is that even though you're having a farmer watch it (I assume you are), your tree can still get diseased. The farmer will cure it for you, but plants lose a growth cycle when they get diseased. So it will take an extra cycle every time your plant gets diseased. This is why it is always a good idea to supercompost your trees, even if a farmer is watching it for you. It won't get diseased as often, therefore loses less growth cycles, and thus will be done in a shorter amount of time. I hope that made sense.
  21. No, the REALLY fun part of this is after you've done all that and find out that in that time partyhat prices have doubled. +1 Green dragons is not going to get you a phat, no matter how hard you try. Phats will continue to raise in price and it will always be out of reach with a slow money-making method like that. Your only real way of getting a phat is by getting into the rares market and starting to flip, merch, trade, etc until you've got the street value for one. So to summarize: just go for 99 mage.
  22. I disagree, Guards really aren't that good. They're always camped with low level players trying to train, and they're pretty spread out in comparison to other monsters. Catablepons are a good option, or you can try Cockatrice. I always had good luck there- plus you can get a load of limpwurt roots every trip and make a little extra profit.
  23. +1 Personally, I'm the opposite. I think playing SC normally is completely unbearable, but I love using fast sc. So try a few games of each and see what you prefer. Oh, and to answer the question in the original post- I usually do c1-c3-c5, starting by doing a quick look around to see what the nearest c3 is. Grab a c1 clay, make the tool for the c3, then do the same for the c5. I think it's a bit faster than making a whole set of c1 tools, then a whole set of c3's, etc.
  24. +1 If you ever intend to have max stats (or even reach a goal like getting 80 in all skills) you'll need slayer exp anyways, so you might as well get it at the same time as your combat levels.
