Artificial_Doom_Flavor
The following is an in-game conversation between me and a Chinese player who works among macroers in both the game and the real world. He/she sells RuneScape money he receives from cutting yews for real currency. In the conversation, he or she will only be referred to as ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬ÅRH.̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâà Still enjoying RuneScape? mikeb912
There is no way to stop this kind of thing, but it is wrong. Not because he is selling in game gold, but because his life is being exploited for what many consider to be pocket change. 1k yews = 50 cents. I've seen yew selling sites that sell 100k yews for around $100 dollars. For payments .50 x 100 = $50 so they are making a $50 dollar profit per 100k yews which means they are turning a 100% profit off this. Whoever runs the workshop is getting as much as all of his "employees" combined. That is just wrong.

Screech1992
I don't think this person is wrong... he gets paid soooo low, he must be really really poor, or he would get a better job. the people who are wrong, are those who encourage people to do these kinds of jobs. iwatake
I know I may sound kind of unsympathatic, but even if it's money to get by, it's Illegitimate money. It's not fair to everything else, to siphon off a game just for money. There are surely better ways to make money. The fact is, it's against rules, many rules. It's just not right. What if there are no other ways for him to get money? In China there are many poor people who will do, as this shows, literally anything for a little bit of money. Many of the factories that produce items we use are manned by small children. Not many people stop to think about that.
Thus
wow thats horrible! That poor person is playing a game for countless hours just to feed his family and not die. I blame big business.

Not trying to justify it- I'm just putting it into perspective. Even fifty cents a day sounds better than ten for making small plastic toys. Still enjoying RuneScape? Pyderz
There was a show on tv about gold farmers and the broker companies which buy the gold from farmers and then sell it. Search for videos on google or youtube, I'm sure it's somewhere, there lives are sad but it's all that they know. 99 Fishing/Cooking - Both Achieved in Rs199 Attack, Defense, Strength, Range, Hitpoints, Fletching

berbatovsky
China is basically capitalist now (as in all the government is interested in is the accumulation of wealth and the growth of industry as opposed to having a free press, fair and just judicial system etc). There are many, many, many jobs in China that require no education, all of these jobs are crappy and boring and pay poorly (BY OUR STANDARDS), there is absolutely no way Chinese people are forced to go play Runescape to make money, they chose to and deserve NO SYMPATHY. goosey134
I dont think this is real. #1 mass gold diggers or whatever you wanna call them write there own script and run multiple acounts on various good computers (yes it is possible) #2 they no use broken english when talking people they spend so much time reading english and typing english and all that they learn the correct way to use it , but not the grammatic reasons behind it like childeren #3 if this isn't fake then it makes no sence in the least because you have your timezones messed up ''we do it while you sleep''that makes no sence to put in they might as well of said '' i do it in the middle of the day since thats when im awake. #4 his wages = unrealistic ,now sweatshops, each peice of clothing is bought for $15-$30 and that take 40 cents of materal + what there being paid, if he gets 100 logs per day 3k=1 mill he gets 1 mill per month and last time i checked 1 mill goes for 7-8 dollars... he gets 1.5 dollars per month by your reasoning or whatever i see there being no profit for anyone in this situation(as in the owner of the company thing) once you add a computer and internet which mean your fully off, but i may have gotten mix up so heres my annaylises me f2p cutting 250kp/d 250k*4=1 mill 4 days =1 mill( this is 12 hour days or so at 81 cutting ) 1.5$ per day , and i still see 50 cents of profit for the owner in 4 days now consider i make 50 cents every day easily by walking down the street with my hands in my pockets... wow for this to be anywhere near profitable there must be millions of player run gold diggers in each warehou to make any money at all for the owners... I spent like 5 years with a french friend garbling random random french phrases at me I am still 100% useless at french. Also english is THE most grammatically hard language on the planet (in modern times) plus all that was said follows chinese grammar rules but with english words 3# how can 'we do it when you sleep' not make sense? the gold digger companies aim to be online when the majority of rs players aka US and UK are asleep 4# and the inventor of the sweatshop, where people work for unrealistic wgaes, rests in the peace Operation Gold Sparkles :: Chompy Kills :: Full Profound :: Champions :: Barbarian Notes :: Champions Tackle Box :: MA RewardsDragonkin Journals :: Ports Stories :: Elder Chronicles :: Boss Slayer :: Penance King :: Kal'gerion Titles :: Gold Statue

Gerthddyn
We should blame the people buying money off gold farmers, not those who work for them! It's all about supply and demand. As long as people are lazy enough to not work for their in-game money but buys it instead, there will be autoers taking up our training spots and sweat-shop workers getting carpal tunnel syndrome for 5 cents a day. chris1216
I think what many of you are doing wrong is assuming that anything Jagex says is illegal to do in game is unethical when applied to real world moral standards. Even by the standards of "Runescape ethics" it's questionable considering they're not doing it to gain an advantage over other players- they're using it as a livelihood. Artificial_Doom_Flavor
That was pretty sad to read.... How did you remember that whole conversation? I took it down as we spoke. I was in Rimmington, trying to kill macroers, when this one that I thought was a macroer gathers my logs and says "hi" as he passes. I figured he was a little different from the macroers around the tree- he was level 18, for one thing, and he spoke, for another- so I wanted to get inside the mind of a macroer or goldfarmer. From what he told me, he seemed well aware that the players surrounding him were macroers, although he was not. I had a real aversion to goldfarmers before I met him. Still enjoying RuneScape? jonno53
god that really made me feel depressed :( i knew that sort of thing goes on, but after hearing from an actual worker i felt awful for some of the things that 'buisnessmen' stoop to doing many top brand shoes are made in sweatshops like this, late last year some large sports brand in uk was caught buying footballs from places like this. they major companies usually buy from a middleman, and dont realise they are buying good like this. its a shame people are so desperate for cash in a place like that... i alsways used to hate the autoers, macroers, because i though they were just some nolifers who are trying to abuse the system, with one player controlling 10+ players on his own. now i realise that some of these autoers are real people too... if anyone has heard 'prayer for the refugee' by rise against (see vid on youtube) you get a similar message... killing off the TET, one newb at a time :^_^:im cutting back on rs now due to rl issues (college), my sig stats havent been updated in a while...
