Why Green Fuels in the United States are a joke

Featured Replies

They lack press support. The Press spends all the time in the world complaining about Greenhouse Gases.

While I was eating breakfast this morning, I happened to catch a press conference of President Bush explaining the desperate need for support for green fuels. Not only would this "save the ozone" and lower fuel prices, the United States stands a lot to gain monetarily by releasing it's need for oil and being the leading producer of surplus corn, grain, and other sources of E82.

When it came time for questions, however:

President Bush, how do you plan to act when Congress threatens to cut off funding for the war?

President Bush, do you hate homosexuals? <-- Answer to this one was very mature, even thought the question was random.

President Bush, who do you think will win the next election? <-- What the HECK!

And CNN's ticker was displaying crap about the Anna Nicole thing.

I mean, does the media not realize that they are seriously gimping support for green fuels because America listens to it's media?

By shunting reports on green fuels in favor of more "newsworthy" AKA profitable material, they are hurting America. The media claims that our Administration is oil hungry, but when the Administration is trying to cut off our ties to oil, nobody cares. Why? It's not as important as Anna Nicole Smith.

The beauty of free press.

The media in America is not regulated like it is in some other countries like the UK. Its not a suprise to see that a TV channel has chosen to talk about things which get higher ratings/advertising revenue. :(

and of course, when nothing gets done about it, the press will blame president bush.

OT: E82? It's E85 here, is there a difference or is it just a typo? what does 3% difference do?

'green' fuels are also hurt by a lack of consumer intrest. they aren't interested because there aren't enough fueling stations. there aren't enough fueling stations because not enough people drive 'green' vehicles.... the vicious cycle continues.

Petrol in the United States is crazily cheap its no wonder people still prefer to drive gas guzzlers. Bring pricing in-line with the rest of the world and then watch as millions become interested in alternatives.

What's it cost over there right now? It's $2.70 something a gallon here at the moment...

And yes, please do give me amounts in litre's and euro's so that I have to convert both because I am a stupid, stupid American. :P It's only fair since I gave you both amounts in American's dumb non-metric system.

It's pretty damn expensive if I remember right. When I lived there for 2 years even with our own special cards I think it was still .... $4-5 a liter? Just a guess.

1 USA gallon = 3.78 litres (UK gallon is more, but that's irrelevant).

USA = $2.70 (̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã1.37) per gallon = $0.71 (̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã0.35) per litre

UK = ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã3.40 ($6.70) per gallon = ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã0.90 ($1.78) per litre

It's around 1.25̢̢̮ââ¬Ã¡Ãâì/liter (about 6.05$/gallon. YOU. HAVE. IT. EASY.)

Maybe I won't move to a different country afterall.

I am so sick of seeing that every time I turn on the TV. Don't they realize nobody cares? :wall:

National average right now is $2.60...I dunno' what it is right here at the moment. I haven't gone to town for a while, and I haven't had a car for months due to some redneck imbred [developmentally delayed] hitting me and not paying for it. Sooo, yea. :D

I personally don't give a crap about Anna Nichole Smith and can't understand why anyone would. She did drugs and died...End of story. She's like Paris Hilton...No talent, yet everyone cares about them. Paradox, anyone?

I do kinda' care about who the father of her kid is, though. I know it doesn't matter at all and isn't important news, but that Howard Stern guy KNOWS it isn't his, and that Larry Berkhead guy seems pretty decent, so I'm hoping it's his, and I hope he gets a slice of that fortune of Anna's.

Unfortunately, REAL news doesn't pay well...Apparently.

The media cares about money. Money, money, money, it's what it's all about. I'm starting to lose interest in the news, all it is is crap about Anna Nicole Smith dying. Yes, tragic but it shouldn't control their station for the past month.

How dumb are reporters these days

Ah well, we'll pay for it when it happens. Mother Nature cares about no one, and doesn't wait for anything, if she unleashes and attack, she has no guilt, only society has guilt.

And they thought Katrina was bad. But oh well, they'll learn sooner or later. When they have no plan and the world is screwed over, who is really going to care? Surely not the Universe, the world is a spec, so it disappears or grows decrepit, it isn't going to matter to anything anyways. The Universe will move on.

Me doing staff.

In venezuela gas cost only like $.25-.30 / gallon because they have so much of their own oil. Unfortunately they have almost no road system.

Nope, they just drive atop the corpses of those who oppose the president.

$0.30 a gallon?!?! thats it! I'm buying my gass from venezuela! Of course, when you factor in shiping and handeling, and importation tax...never mind. <.<

The media in America is not regulated like it is in some other countries like the UK.

Haha, the meida is more regulated than you can imagine. :)

The media is a business. They choose which news to play based on how much revenue the piece will make.

Bits like saving the environment tend to be less exciting and therefore don't make the news as much as, say, violence and terrorism.

You contradicted yourself in the same post. First by saying its highly regulated and then you go on to say that they display news depending on how much revenue the piece will make?

I mean independent regulation.

Probably still be cheaper than having a fual company slap on it's markup along with all the stuff you listed :uhh:

Well, I'm gonna get a green-fuel car if they ever come out, and will most likely also become an engineer and work on, among other things, more fuel-efficient or environmentally-friendly cars. I'm kinda fanatic on this issue.

And Tigra, where in the U.S do you live? Gas is around three bucks a gallon here in California, usually.

Ethanol is something i disagree with.

(this is a side point, but i'd like to make it) Ethanol is probably one of the worst choices for a "Green fuel". i will admit very easily and i completely agree that it burns better than gas and works fine. However, what people overlook is that corn doesn't magically turn into gas...

The gas required to run the machines that PRODUCE the ethanol, is actually around the same amount of gas used in the first place...

:?

anyway, this is kind of odd...that they'd be asking questions like that. I think that people just want the stuff like that, they don't care about global warming, they want to hear about anna nicole smith, and i think that's partly somewhat of the bitter truth :?
