Icingdeath
Don't you just get tired of words sometimes? I don't...but instrumentals are pretty cool. What are some of your favorites? Mine are 'Orion' and 'Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth)' by Metallica. I really wouldn't call it an era. It was more of a definitive time period during which dinstinctive characteristics were expressed in similar ways.
Astralinre
101 Strings Orchestra has some great stuff, as does Ottmar Liebert if you like Latin instrumentals. The soundtracks to Hero and Lord of the Rings are also some of my favorites. "In so far as I am Man I am the chief of creatures. In so far as I am a man I am the chief of sinners." - G.K. Satenza
Classical Gas by Mason Williams! Guitar and orchestra. With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.

Azvareth
I'd have to say Rush's "Leave That Thing Alone" and also Killer's "Ad Temps Vitae" - a five minute long kickass guitar solo; it's pretty brilliant. Also most of Satriani's work is worth to give a listen.

Ragen
Liquid Tension Experiment. Definitely. Thirdified. I like a lot of classical instrumentals as well, such as Ride of the Valkeries. There is also a lot of piano solo's that I love (generally slow ones, fast play doesn't suit a piano I think). On that note, can anyone recommend me some good piano solo's, I've just been downloading the scores from the final fantasy games up till now  . Thanks Venomai for this super sig and Kwimbob for the awesome avatar!
