April 25, 200719 yr For victims that have been begged and spammed by a beggar before, you are probably very sick and tired of those kind of people by now. Along with the fact that it is also a very condemned act, why not just take it out of the game? If begging is considered to be breaking one of Jagex rules, how will it changed the community and will it be a good idea? Should persistent emote begging directed at skill cape owners be included in the rule? Discuss Strangely with WotLK so near, I wished I could delay it a bit to push through that last TBC content in MH/BT :'(.
April 25, 200719 yr Well, first of all, you would get little report happy wannabe mods that decide to report you for every little thing you ask, like borrowing an antipoison when you are in the middle of nowhere with 6 hp left. Second, there would be a very fine line between what is begging, and what is simply asking for a small favor. I'm more than happy to give out extra food, or antipoisons, or smith some steel for a newer player, or go a few minutes out of my way to lead someone to Al Kharid on my trip from Dranor to Varrock. The other day I was walking around in f2p, and someone was walking around very politely asking "Excuse me. Can I ask you a question? Do you have any extra runes I can have? I need fire and mind." When he was told no, he'd say "ok, sorry for taking your time", and go on to the next person. I gave him 3k fire runes, and showed him where to start rune mysteries, telling him he could make his own minds in no time. Yet I'm sure other people would consider some of that begging. It's really not that big of a deal. If you won't help you out, just say no, ignore them and go on with what you are doing. It's not like it actually interferes with your game play. I don't even waste time adding them to my ignore list. Look, if your mom still drops you off at school, you ain't gangsta, pull up your damn pants!3 down, 7 to go

You do realize that they look at what has been said over the past minute right? One of my best friends has two 99 skill capes and a quest cape. We try holding a conversation and we get bombarded by at least four people asking for his emote. Turn off chat you say? That doesn't make them stop following you. How about when I was fishing and he came over to keep me company? A level 37 kept following him asking for money(My friends was wearing full dragon). He kindly said no. The 37's reply? "Well I'll just keep following you and asking until you do." So he followed. And he repeatedly said "money please money please money please money please " THAT is begging not asking for one thing and then leaving with a no. The only people who would consider being polite begging are the ones who are immature, shouldn't be playing the game due to age, and are soon to be banned due to false reporting. To get in her you need a lockpick...Wait for it, wait for it..Bow chicka bow wow!
April 25, 200719 yr It should only be against the rule if they ask more than once and keeps on following you.
April 25, 200719 yr In the two clicks to report I could just as easily added them to ignore list. So much simpler.
April 25, 200719 yr The ignore list is a much easier answer to this problem. Whenever I am faced with this in the game I always put them on my iggy list. If they want to waste their time by following me around and shouting at me when I cannot hear them that is their business. 8-) The Internet: where men are men, women are men, and children are the FBI.First Dragon Drop 5/6/2006 -Dragon Med from Bronze Dragon :DFirst Barrows Item From Chest 2/20/2007 - Verac's Brassard :D
April 26, 200719 yr Though I don't like beggers, I don't think making it a reportabe offense is necessary. As said before, they can easily be added to ignore. The way I figure it they are just wasting their own time (assuming no one gives them anything) so I just add to ignore and move on. April 26, 200719 yr i'd personally love to report beggars. although the point about bringing out more WBMs is the most likely scenario of this... maybe making WBMming reportable as well? I painted some stuff and put it on tumblr
April 26, 200719 yr It would be cool to be able to report beggars, but i think it is unnecessary. Just ignore them. I also found a player made guide on how to deal with scammers, beggars, ect, but i cant seem to find it now :( I engineered this thread with precise variables that I know would cause lul-worthy flames.
April 26, 200719 yr They don't really affect you much, especially if you ignore them. They actually amuse me at times, watching their pitiful antics. Why do you resist? My experiments are only helping humanity push the boundaries of the Art of Toxicology... you should be proud to be one of my victims. ~Toxicologist~
April 26, 200719 yr Author Maybe I'll want to narrow down this word "begging" for a bit. Like what trunksrs said, i have no problem doing a small favour for other players sometimes, is the fact that refusal to their demands does not make them give up and continuing to spam your chat with "plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz" is something that really irritates me. Apparently since I'm holding a not-so-common skill cape in f2p ( on't bother persuading me to take it off) and being a high lvl than typical standard of f2p, expect me to get spammed continously by beggars of all sorts. I can easily get over 10 people into ignore list daily and the list has a limit. This needs to stop. To further specify how the rule may work, persistant begging which you know very well the outcome is still a "no" should be something reportable for. That is just plain annoying other players. Strangely with WotLK so near, I wished I could delay it a bit to push through that last TBC content in MH/BT :'(.
April 26, 200719 yr I don't think it should be reportable. I think that the spamming is already reportable, because its harrasment, so offensive language is what it should/could be reportable under.
April 26, 200719 yr Beggers dont do anything 'wrong', they're just an annoyance. They're not scamming you, luring you, and hopefully, not insulting you.. They're just there as part of the games 'problems'. Seems much easier to ignore them then report them.
April 26, 200719 yr You do realize that they look at what has been said over the past minute right? One of my best friends has two 99 skill capes and a quest cape. We try holding a conversation and we get bombarded by at least four people asking for his emote. I'm not gunna try to persuade you guys to take it off. It would be pretty pointless to have a cape you never wear. But what you do have to understand is, depending on which cape you have, they are mostly for showing off, especially the quest cape, so you have to expect comments about it. It would be like an actor trying to bring up a movie he was in during a conversation, then getting mad when asked for autographs. That's why when I wear my quest cape, I am usually willing to take the time to do my emote if asked, I am asking for it by wearing it. However, I can see it being a bit annoying if you are actually using that level 100 stat, like in cooking on something. Just tell them you are busy at the moment, and then ignore them. Turn off chat you say? That doesn't make them stop following you. No, I'm not saying turn off chat. I'm not saying add them to your ignore list. I'm saying just pretend their not there. It's not like you actually have to hear every "plz, plz, plz, plz, plz" pounding on your ear drums. If they wanna waste their time, that's fine. Don't let them waste yours. And THAT is a violation of rule one. He has clearly stated his intention to spam you, and then has proceeded to do so, and is therefore already reportable. What is flooding the chat window? Spamming/flooding the chat window is to fill the chat window with unnecessary text. This is also an offence and is disruptive and unfair on other players as it makes it more difficult for them to communicate and trade with each other. Look, if your mom still drops you off at school, you ain't gangsta, pull up your damn pants!3 down, 7 to go

The only people who would consider being polite begging are the ones who are immature, shouldn't be playing the game due to age, and are soon to be banned due to false reporting. First of all I'm not clear on what you mean in the underlined part. Polite begging? Second of all, that's harassment, and I believe it's reportable (rule 1, but a double check can't hurt). The small cases of begging is like someone calling someone a noob. It's not enough to get you reported, it's only when the person is insisting to the extreme, just like bombarding them with offensive insults. I get a lot of "do the emote", when I don't want to answer I get all kinds of responses but none of them are serious, they will give up after a while. That is harassment but not severe. Usually you report someone when they are harming you (for rule 1 at least). 76th to reach 99 Construction on 6th of February 2007379th to reach 99 Runecrafting on 4th of November 2007 Finally the secrets of goal achieving are revealed! April 27, 200719 yr In the two clicks to report I could just as easily added them to ignore list. So much simpler. Yes... but you can only fit so many names on an ignore list... This'd be nice, but there would be wanna-be mods everywhere, reporting people who jokingly ask their friend for their whip, people who need an anti very badly, ect... There is no meaning or truth in life but that which we create for ourselves.
April 27, 200719 yr Author This'd be nice, but there would be wanna-be mods everywhere, reporting people who jokingly ask their friend for their whip, people who need an anti very badly, ect...That's easy to solve, just specify the rule where a beggar is seriously annoying another player through persistent begging after refusal, so those examples won't count. April 28, 200719 yr And since when do people read everything regarding a rule carefully before they report? They will just see "Begging" on the Report Screen and spam it. Why do you resist?
