May 5, 200719 yr I put this in here just in case some botanic dude shows up: Lately I came up with this cool idea! *performs nice guy pose* I'm goin to plant a willow tree 8-) !! But for this I need someone with the adequate knowledge for planting and taking care of it (when to plant it, where to get the seeds etc.) You may wonder why? Why would you want to plant a willow tree?? Well if your wondering why, your probably dumb and dont deserve an answer, so I dont feel like telling you. I'll tell you anyway, heres a list of the obvious reasons why: Nothing surpasses the supreme erect look to a willow tree body! And thats nice to look at when you yourself are 50 years older than now, and arent able to assume the same erect position. Having a big tree like that is like signaling to the world just around your neighborhood that you have power and majesty. It is something people will look at wereatfer they will bow their heads in obediance as they walk by the pavement! It is similar to having the ultimate skills in Runescape! (so it was RS related, i admit it geez....) Or even greater! They help you to stop smoking  And ase we all know, in case of nuclear war, i.e. Northern Corea starts throwing their bombs in your country, the willow tree provides perfect shelter! Now that that's settled. I'd be really grateful to anyone who would help me :D Thank you very much in advance Sincerely ~ Drokles I'll get there!... eventually
May 5, 200719 yr Plant near water, or in a place that is wet a lot. Also they don't really stand "erect", they are pretty droopy. Make sure you don't have to mow under it, since the branches droop down so much they touch the ground.
May 5, 200719 yr Author Thanks a lot, ill take it all into consideration ;). EDIT: allthough I'm very grateful, t'would mean a lot to me if I could get information on how to get the seeds first and how to plant it in a pot and such. I may even begin the process today. I'll get there!... eventually
May 5, 200719 yr I don't really know much about them, just what I have seen from personal experience. I have to mow around and under one at work, and it is absolute hell. Other things I said was just random things I knew about it. I'll see what I can find on google. EDIT: OK, the type I am talking about is a "Weeping Willow Tree." Apparently there are a few different kinds. I couldn't find (didn't look too hard, just search google and you may find something with a little digging) anything about how to plant the seeds, but I do know a little bit about planting trees. I have planted a good 50 or so trees around my property, and I never have planted a seed. We always go to a nursery, and buy a 3ft-6ft tall tree and plant that. People at the nursery will give you any extra information you need.
May 5, 200719 yr Yea, I think teh nursery woudl be helpful. In my area, there are a hell of a lot of weeping willows. They look majestic (and are perfect for a first kiss \ ), but never plant them in an area where u have to mow. [hide=]tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :( :lol:But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities. That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.[/hide]Apparently a lot of people say it. I own. http://linkagg.com/ Not my site, but a simple, budding site that links often unheard-of websites that are amazing for usefulness and fun.
May 5, 200719 yr Author Thx you guys, checked google a few times before I posted this and found out about the other sorts as well. It turns out the one i'm looking for is that kind of weeping willow with long branches and all that you're talking about. If it isn't too much of a favour to ask, i'd like you to find this information for me. You'd be doing me a great favor! Its just that there doesnt seem to be any nurseries around were I live. Good luck with all the work too! P.S. You may wanna PM me about it, I'll be away for a little while and the thread may get lost somewhere. I'll get there!... eventually

May 5, 200719 yr You don't get willow tree seeds, you get a small willow tree from a nursery (I've planted a willow tree before). Buy the small willow tree, and take it home. It could quite possibly be as tall or taller than you, so make sure you bring a vehicle such as a truck to take it home in. Once you get home, find a spot to plant it in, preferably a damp place where the soil doesn't have a sandy texture to it. Also, as Indy has mentioned, put it in a place where you won't have to mow near it, since the tree's branches droop very low and this could be a problem when mowing. The trees can get quite big over the span of just a few years, and they shed their leaves every Winter, and trust me, there are a lot of leaves after awhile, so make sure you initially plant it in an area where you won't make your neighbors mad when your tree's leaves fall onto their property. :P They also drip sap from time to time, so don't plant it in an area where someone may park under it. Anyway, when you get to the planting part, you want to dig a hole about two feet wide and three to four feet deep. Place the small tree in the hole and fill it in with dirt. If possible, buy some mulch to put on top of the dirt. this will help it retain water a little better if you live in an area that gets dry during any part of the year. Then, water the tree every other day or so. Make sure you give it lots of water. It's a tree, not a little potted plant. :P You can put fertilizer in the soil too when you water it. If you decide to buy the mulch, make sure you check it after few months to see if you need to add more. :D I hope this has helped. And I wish you luck with your little tree. :P
May 5, 200719 yr Author Well if your wondering why, your probably dumb and dont deserve an answer, so I dont feel like telling you. :-w Well, hehe never mind that #-o. Well actually I dont feel like buying a small willow tree, thats for normal people who have money to spend. I however *Performs nice guy pose* will be planting and nursing it myself 8-) Farming style!! \ But I mustn't forget to thank you for caring , the last parts were pretty useful and should be taken into account. I'll get there!... eventually
May 5, 200719 yr If you want to plant your own tree..break a branch of an excisitng willow tree and place it into water at room temperature new the window(sunlight) And wait few days/weeks till the branch gives root , place that into a pot and water frequently. A friend to all is a friend to none.
May 5, 200719 yr water it with vitamin water :D vitamins+water=all you need (ENDORSE ME GLACEAU!!!) :P Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
May 5, 200719 yr Awesome! I have a willow bonsai tree, I'm not sure that the care instructions would be the same. Just buy a sapling, not a seed, and the people at the nursry will help you out. (I'd expect so) Last.fm Signature Overlays
May 6, 200719 yr Author You guys are sure about this? I'd prefer just to plant a seed and begin from scratch, planting a branch just wouldn't be the same -.- I'll get there!... eventually
May 6, 200719 yr You guys are sure about this? I'd prefer just to plant a seed and begin from scratch, planting a branch just wouldn't be the same -.- Chances are you'll fail starting from scratch. You don't sound like you have a clue about what to do, so why not skip the hard part? Gamertag: King Arizona
May 6, 200719 yr Author I dont really have a clue, no. But I dont mind learning these things, and besides *performs nice guy pose* the hard parts are what makes it interesting 8-) I'll get there!... eventually
May 6, 200719 yr If you start from a seed you are going to want to start 5 or 6 of them, and if you are lucky one will grow.
May 6, 200719 yr Well if your wondering why, your probably dumb and dont deserve an answer, so I dont feel like telling you. :-w I was thinking the same thing Have you ever heard of google? I found some decent websites in like a minute. Why you may not want to plant one: http://forestry.about.com/od/treeplanti ... willow.htm http://www.slimwetwillows.co.uk/willows ... anting.htm I'm not going to help you anymore, you shouldn't have even had to ask really. But yea I found that information really easily. You should try searching. *performs nice guy pose* Stop it Last.fm: http://www.last.fm/user/Aaronm14/MY FAVORITE BAND:http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu ... d=64310717And the bible is the big book of lies, call me a racist if you must.
May 6, 200719 yr If you start from a seed you are going to want to start 5 or 6 of them, and if you are lucky one will grow. I would suggest starting with 50-60 seeds. If you are lucky enough that they germinate slowly thin them out until you have 3-4 left. Then transport them into a larger pot. Then select the best of the seedlings and kill the rest. But it would be 10x easier and faster just to take a cutting and grow the tree from that.
May 7, 200719 yr Author Alright, I'll be ready to start in a few days then. I wanna you thank you all for posting, and I should owe you one or two. However please dont call me a fool for even trying to do it this way, its what I decided from the beginning and I did the nice guy pose so I can't back away from this challenge. This post is still open for comments though, and any further help willl be appreciated :. I'll get there!... eventually
May 7, 200719 yr Well, Militaris probably suggested a better amount than I did, it is pretty hard to grow a tree from a seed. Not impossible though, just do a lot to even out the odds. To put in perspective, there is a hillside on our property that used to be pasture (for cows) and was completely open. We wanted it to be covered in trees, so we bought them bulk. 200 of them for I think $20. They were about 6 inches tall already. 7 years later 15 of them are growing. 15/200 and that isn't even from seeds, that is from trees that were already 6" tall. That was what was expected though (well, hoping for a little more). Just saying all this so you don't get discouraged if you fail, just keep trying and it will work eventually.
May 7, 200719 yr not sure if this has been said make sure there are no pipes, wires, septic system near the place you pland it the roots will rip then to shreds happened to my friend :| New Sig Coming soon!
May 7, 200719 yr they don't really stand "erect", they are pretty droopy. the branches droop down so much they touch the ground.
May 7, 200719 yr I was going to stop reading after you called me "dumb" and told me I don't deserve to know your reasons. But I kept going and I've come to the conclusion that your reasons are stupid and you spelled Korea wrong. Internet Marketing For Newbies
May 7, 200719 yr I'm not trying to discourage you. Planting trees is great and fun. :D But, from my experience, it's harder to find willow tree seeds rather than just finding a sapling. Though I can understand why you would want to raise it from a seed for the challenge, it's just easier to find a sapling and plant it. You can probably go to Wal-Mart and get a willow tree sapling, but I don't think they sell the seeds there. :P
May 8, 200719 yr Plant near water, or in a place that is wet a lot. Also they don't really stand "erect", they are pretty droopy.
