personally, i think this spell is good. i think jagex put it so that if you see someone that's an autoer you can check his stats and see if only one of his stats is high. :P

 

Thats a very good point, I looks like Jagex found a way to allow themselves to be lazy and allow player to find autoers themselves.

 

Shame they don't work on F2P or the game would be almost bot free.

Someone did that to me, i wasn't bothered i just said jokingly ":O off my stats!". It wouldn't bother me even in the wild. I fear we have a new insult "stat-look-up-noob"

The problem starts when after the person stats-look another player and decided to comment/flame/compliment his or her stats. Mainly the people who go look up highscores and starts disclosing that particular person's stats is exactly the same as this, only that most of the highscore users don't go around disclosing your stats. I don't care really. Sometimes maybe I can't hide my 99 stats by not wearing the 99 cape. I can imagine: *person stat scans me*

 

 

 

Person: OMG OMG you have 99 mining!

 

Other people: Wow he has? *some stat scans me as well*, omg so true

 

Rest of the people goes like "take out your skill cape and show us emote!" and I continued to get followed by emote beggars :wall:

1. You can finally see before hand what pures combat levels are!

This would be a great tool to use for stakers.. shame i'm a mage staker though, i doubt i can bake pie them to death :wall: but for melee stakes it seem pretty cool. And as for use in the wild, i don't think so. It takes a few seconds to cast and would be at the sacrifice of regular or ancients.

I persoanly am not bothered by it its only your stats which can be checked on the hi scores

Lets see... after I got that spell, I managed to obtain a death warrant from SaidinWoT by proceeding to read his stats (I want his 88 Runecrafting!) and found out that most fishing guild macroers actually have lv2 attack, for whatever reason or another...

 

 

 

 

 

Also had some fun one time when I cast it. Someone wanted me to read their stats, so I asked for 1 cosmic and 5 bodies (the runes required, minus the astrals) and so as I was casting it, I went and said "Open your mind!" just cause I could...

 

 

 

As someone mentioned, this ability was already available on a restricted basis with the high scores; this just makes for a convenient way to see the stats. This may harm staking just a little bit for the stat pures, but I'm sure those who don't have it won't be affected by it...

 

 

 

Besides, I doubt a person with low defense would survive long enough against the 343 to have any chance... I ended up using 26 sharks on it one time, and the second time I came back with Barrelchest Anchor and somehow managed to hit a 24 and a 12 on it with the 2 specs, which made the rest of fighting him easier...

I think you'll find this is just to stop people whinging when they DM other players and find they potted and stuff.

 

 

 

The only thing i have against it is that it appears in your chat box about it. We don't need the spam just have an icon appear in the corner of the screen or something.

If you consider this an "invasion of privacy", wait until you see the Highscores. They've got EVERYONE in there. And it's available for everyone to access, too; all you have to do is type in their name!

 

 

 

 

 

 

I honestly don't feel that it's an invasion of privacy of any sort. You can access player info via the Highscores (and you'd only have to guess about if they were using prayer or had potions); now you don't really have to.

 

 

 

Besides that, it's just a fun skill to use if you want to get someone's attention. :P

1) On most players, there will be some stats hidden on the hiscores. Like an embarrassing lvl 7 hunter for example. Anything below lvl 30 or below the top 1M players is hidden. But not with the spy spell.

 

2) People don't check hiscores on a whim really. This spell encourages players to heckle people who they would otherwise just walk on past.

 

 

 

Again: I like the spell. I just want to know what the people are thinking who don't like it.

 

 

 

I though the spell would be used for pking, you know instead of the high scores. If you stat spy a dude your about to fight you can see if he/she is a pure, mage pure ect,,,, and then switch to ancients or normal and..... :twisted:

I like this! People can check your stats to see if a level three only has stats in one skill (bots). And maybe they can stop reporting me...

last time I checked most people don't bring lunar into the wildy, so its not like stat spy in the wildy is gonna be a huge problem

not really, Vengeance in combo with this is look-up pking with a recoil that actully hits high \

I don't like the spells, but they don't bother me. The only problem I have is you waste runes to see another person's stats...

 

 

 

I often don't check highscores to see how low a person's stats are.

 

 

 

Pretty much the only problem with this is they serve no actual purpose.

 

 

 

I'm going to also give a remark that I dislike the monsters stats. I was hoping for a strength, defense, attack...and such..

 

 

 

Instead we get HP(already know), Combat Level(Obvious), and Max hit (with the use of a help-site...can also be known)...

No it's good as it is. And I don't think they would change it. Having a spell that is just like looking up someone on highscores would be kind of a waste of runes. The ability to see stats that arent on highscores or the boosts help. And if you don't want to have your stats spyed just turn your aid off.

u can look up their stats on the high scores...its no annoyance i think, stats should be visible ^.^

this spell seems useful in the duel arena. Sort of an anti-scam for people who use 2 accounts and have it so that the stats of their 2nd account show up on the highscore (when the person thinks they are looking up the stats of the first account)

 

 

 

Otherwise it's a pretty fun skill

privacy in runescape extends to a password, bank pin, friends list, ignore list, and chat buttons.

I don't see it as an invasion of privacy.

 

Firstly, I think Jagex had the second intention (first one being us having loads of fun with it) of making the game of Runescape helpful when looking for extra helpful features, which you can find in help sites. Monster examine spells and Stats spy being 2 important updates for it.

 

Secondly, I'd see it as a motivation to train my skills, I'd want to show the Runescape players that my account is the result of fun&effort from me.

 

 

 

Lastly, the part where it allows you to see if the players' stats are 0/99 or 118/99 is quite entertaining. Maybe it'd be a bit unsecure for wildy, yet it's a risk we all have to take, after all we're looking at the most complete Highscore-alike spell ever :P

I look up people's stats on hiscores anyways especially when I was fishing in Catherby. Some person would claim to have some such level in a particular spell. I'd look them up. If they were telling the truth, I won't say anything. If they were lying, I'd burst their bubble. The other players would have a good laugh and the poor sod would run off or log. :twisted:

if they arent high enough to get the spell then i say...BURN IN HE-*cough* i mean, good =) if they want to hide something thats their problem, this will own @$$ at duel arena and while pking (check stats for a friend or yourself to see if they are hiding a pure :P)

This spell is useful in a few good ways.

 

 

 

Main one being if your with friends or even a person you dont know and they ask something like - can i do monkey madness quest or can i make sapphire amulets etc etc, use the magic and you can instanly see if they can or not and give advice on what they should work on.
