Brainstorming Session: Elminating autoers from coming back

1) Beginning question

Randomly throught tutorial island they should had a random easy question. Which would be randomly at any check point. Something to help the newbies also, so along the lines of "how do you make bread" etc etc.. This helps because it makes the scum of the owner to actually do something. It would only help a little bit, but still would help somewhat.

2) "Too many people at this tree"

If there is more than x amount of people around one tree than you would get that message. That would be for any tree.

3) Hidden random event

This one be at the bottom of your screen if you were suspected of autoing. So if someone reports you and the macro censor thingy thinks your autoing (like if your not talking) that a message would come at the bottom of your screen saying "type: yew log and press enter" or whatever. If you get it wrong you get a day ban.

*The censors would have to be close to perfect.

*People abusing the system would lose it.

*The writing would be hinden from others and would be in a different font style each time.

Quit RuneScape :)

This is a decent idea, but like all other randoms, I have a feeling it can be overcome.

2) "Too many people at this tree"

This would work, but would obviously cause an uproar because there are many crowded tree spots, such as Draynor bank, F2P.

Like the Random Box, and Mod Dectection, I'm sure this can be easily overcome. Not to mention they already have the auto typers that are used in markets, add on some extra information to detect the words in the box, and volia it's been conqured

[hide=Note to moderators]Please do not move this to the marcoer/autoer discussion. This thread has a purpose of devising a plan to elminate autoers from coming back. It's not strictly a discussion about them.[/hide]

Well recently I've realized (well not really recently, it's been known for awhile, I just started to think about it) that no matter how many you ban, they can always come back. Every single time. Why? Because we have the freedom to make and own as many accounts as we want. If we wanted an army of 1 million noobs, then we could have it. Why anyone would want that, I'm not sure, but it's possible. There is no way that you can forever eliminate the autoers unless there is some kind of restrictions put on the account making process.

Here are a few ideas I've come up with. I'll gather any ideas that have a good potential from all of you.

Idea #1

Add a restriction to the number of accounts per IP. Example Being Used: 5

How it would benefit: If the autoers made 5 accounts on their IP and then got them all banned, they could no longer play and pollute our economy and game.

How it could be a problem: Now-a-days there is usually more then computer per household which all are on the same network thanks to a router. If it were to be biased on a dynamic IP then people with same 2 children, with 2 computers, each want their own 5 accounts, they would be restricted to Two accounts per person, plus and extra one. This would ultimately lead to account sharing. If it's not biased on a dynamic IP then they could just get the IP to their home computer changed by flushing and resetting it, or using a proxy and getting around the 5 accounts per IP rule. It would be hassle but they'd still be able to play.

This would also interfear with Tip.it Freak Trains. If you're at your limit wth a main, skiller, staker, and two pkers then you wont have room to make a fun account. Also if you have 4 aco[bleep]s I'm sure no one would want to "waste" their 5th account spot on a fun account you're going to use for an hour.

----------

Idea #2

Add a restriction to a certain amount of accounts per computer. Example being used: 5

How it will Benefit:

If there was to be a file downloaded to your computer, such as the uid.dat to determine where accounts are coming from, then this would work brilliantly. The file would track black marks and bans, and once someone has had 5 accounts banned, they are no longer allowed to play Runescape.

How it would be a problem:

If this file was ever discovered then, autoers could roam free, and this could be over come by a simple wipe of the hard drive. I suppose if you really wanted to play that badly, you could wipe your hard rive but who would sit around wiping their hard drive every weekend to play a game? I know I wouldn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t.

Also if there is only 1 computer per household and a lets say one brother is legit and one brother gets into autoing, and Brother A gets his autoers banned then both Brother A and Brother B are punished for one child̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s stupidity.

These are only two I've come up with off the top of my head. I'll try and develop some more ideas

jagex would be able to tell which one is legit

Well, this is just an idea but:

Some FPSs use programs that will ban the cheaters video card id#

soooo.....

could Jagex create a program that will ban the registered copy of JAVA from logging in?

Make Rs downloadable and add xtrap or game guard.

Game Guard? Don't make me laugh. Maplestory has Game Guard and they still have problems. One of my friends only plays so he can hack it.

No, YOU don't make me laugh little kid, you obviously have no idea how Runescape 'hacks' work. A protecting system would render useless all current Rs scrips thus bots and cracks. Of course, programmers will always make programs to go around the security, but it will make it all much harder and long for them. There's not a game out there that is not being botted, no point in mentioning Maple Story, atleast they have a basic protection. Our 'protection' is randoms, which most are an ongoing annoyance for all honest players. As it is now, Rs is totally unprotected, heck it's a browser game no surprise, and as long as it stays as such, it will be a childstrick to bot on it. Jagex can't even stop them, they can just ban them if they get caught.

I think instead of updating the game everyt tiny bt to stop autoers why don't we spend more efforts stopping the reasons autoers auto: the black market. If jagex can shut down the black market noone would have a reason to auto in the first place and would probally move onto a different game. Jagex I think realizes how the autos are to advanced to be stopped so I think they have already started tried to shut the demand for the black market hopping if the autoers have eventually no reason to auto, they will disappear. I don't know how they can do that, but since autos can update and be so advanced I think that is the only way to stop them.

Client side scanner, you play the game you allow the scan, dont want your computer to be scanned? dont play the game.

This would increase the system requirements and ruin players with legacy computers. :wall:

True, but whats the requirements for RS, high details is what, 500mhz and 64mb ram?

Lets say with client side detection implemented it doubles, thats 1ghz and 128mb ram.

In this day and age who has a sub 1ghz and sub 256mb ram and plays games?

Its a good idea, but there are many ways of getting past an ip tracker, and the autoers could just develop new softwares to get past the ip trackers.

here's a Java example that will detect if the user is using scar =) (compile that up your java)

import java.io.*;

public class checkSCAR {

public static void main(String[] args) {

	new checkSCAR(args);

}

private checkSCAR(String[] args) {

	lookforMrSCAR();

}

public void lookforMrSCAR() {

	try {

		InputStream stream = Runtime.getRuntime()[Caution: Executable File]c("tasklist").getInputStream();

		BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(stream));

		String s = null; while((s = in.readLine()) != null) {

			if(s.indexOf("scar" + "." + "exe") == 0)

				System.out.println("O SHT SCAR!");

		}

		System.out.println("NO SCAR :)! YOU ARE A PURIST!");

	} catch(IOException e) { }

}

}

the reason why Jagex doesn't use such functions is because it is very much illegal to do this without consent of the user :/. Making an undeletable file would also be very illegal

Verification code to stop macroers

What about when you log in you have to put in a verification code, the ones where there are diffrent numbrs and letters in lower and uppercase and you have to type it in to proceed.

If they somehow manage to get around this, then say about every hour for members or every 30 mins for f2p (this is were alot of macroers are) you have to put in another code.

When the screen comes up asking to put in the code, it stops you from being able to do anything in the back ground, thus stopping macroers as they are unable to put in this unique code, and as no one is controlling them then they are stuck there.

This is just a quick idea i came up with, and in my opinion would work quite well.

Another reason why Jagex doesn't use such functions is because it wouldn't work. It isn't hard to change the process name to something else. I think one version of scar gives the user the option of changing the process name without having to change it them self.

Some of you guys are computer geeks. I have no idea how you get your heads around these things. Anyway, I know that these people are filthy cheaters. But do they honestly make the game less fun for you?

Just because someone knows more about computers than you do doesn't make them a geek.

Sorry. Not geek. I couldn't think of the word virtuoso. Besides. I don't mean their knowledge of computers was greater than mine. It's greater than like, everyone's.

There is absolutely no way to destroy to black market. There are a multitude of sites out there that these marcoers go to and either A. Sell their goods, B. Sell their accounts or, C. Sell their money. Alot of Marcoers are not in it for real life money, those are the gold farmers which are just as bad as the macroers. The marcoers however get items high in demand such as yew logs which are needed for fletching, and then sell all of those yew logs for runescape gold. They then transfer this gold to their mains and use as desired. Alot of people think money is power so they think if they can find a way to produce lots of money, then they'll be powerful and "famous".

I agree with dave0293, the title needs to be changed from

Brainstorming Session: Elminating autoers from coming back

to

Brainstorming Session: Elminating the black market

See Above ^

neither of those would work. You can change your IP.

Do none of you read? That's why there's the DOWNFALLS SECTION. Which it is clearly stated that either method would not work because IPs can be changed. This why I'm brainstorming, to get better ideas.

well Jagex could just ban the ip address and block that ip address from

making new accounts

That could work, yet I think that would be a tremendous amount of work for Jagex's costumer support team and quite frankly I don't think they're up to it.

Very similar to the sleeping bag in RSC and very easy to overcome. Not to mention the rant section of Runescapes forum would go through the roof beause of tihs. Every 30 minutes? Skillers would be extremely upset and annoyed

Some of you guys are computer geeks. I have no idea how you get your heads around these things. Anyway, I know that these people are filthy cheaters. But do they honestly make the game less fun for you?

Yes, yes they do. They over crowd my training areas, and ruin the economy making my work for money less meaningful

I think the way to do this is to make people have to do a bunch of quests to cut yews, catch lobbies and tuna, mine coal, etc.

And those quests would take high combat lv's.

Because clearly IP banning, and text with fluffy colours and lines won't work. The Random a day idea might be too much programing work.=, although it is feasible.

The best option? Killing f2p, although that would eliminate their main source of members.

That's what it takes to be a hero, a little gem

Find unique bot names and censor the part without numbers from being created as new accounts. Every time a new bot name comes up, that will be censored too. I say this because most bots have the same name with different numbers on the end, so they would have to think up new names and waste time.

Another idea would be to randomize all Yew and Magic tree spawns. A bot could chop down a Yew Tree, but where would it go? Why, to a random spot around the world. Kind of like Implings. The real players would figure out where the Yew and Magic trees migrate to and use that spot, while the bots run around with no idea. Yeah, they could cut Willows. But why would they? Willows sell for 25-40 each. This could also be done with all ore above Iron.
