schmuall
I came up with this idea a while ago but didn't think about it seriously until I posted it on the awful "Why are there Yew trees in f2p?" thread and actually got support. I'm not saying this would work 100% but it would definately hinder the macroers a lot more than normal players. Basically one way I've thought of to slow the macroers down is to introduce a new quest. A really easy one sorta like "A new illness has hit Runescape and it's killing all the yew trees" and you have to complete the quest to be able to cut them. You'd obviously have to be a high level woodcut to start the quest (maybe 60?). The quest would be easy but random. Just like the oracle in Dragon Slayer, you have to get 4 random things and bring them to someone (wize old man?) so that he can cure the trees. The things you would have to get would be different for each person (I believe that's there's already a similar system on one of the members quests) and they wouldn't be very expensive so it wouldn't be that hard for skillers to complete. A very good idea by Id_Suge was that at least one of the items would be something that you could easily get in the wildy but it would be more difficult to get anywhere else. For example, a Plank or Big Bone can most easily be got from the wilderness but there are other ways of getting them in case a skiller is very scared of going up there At the end there'd be some kind of woodcut xp reward (Maybe 1k?) It would mean that a human (who could read english) would actually have to complete the quest so it would require a lot more effort on behalf of the macroers. Now I appreciate that this idea requires a bit of work for it to become something that could actually be implimented so I would really love any suggestions or criticisms (Or even more support! \ !) EDIT: If you say positive stuff without anything negative, I'm going to put you in the support list. If I make a mistake and put someone in the who doesn't want to be, please just message me or say it in a post, and I'll fix it asap. give F2P a penny and they want a dime; give P2P a quarter, they want 100,000 dollars, your car, house, boat, social security number, credit card numbers, drivers license, clothes on your back and everything you ever owned or interacted with ever

As there will be 100+ of a certain colour pixel on one yew tree, the macro wouldn't always be clicking on the same one so I dont think that would work. give F2P a penny and they want a dime; give P2P a quarter, they want 100,000 dollars, your car, house, boat, social security number, credit card numbers, drivers license, clothes on your back and everything you ever owned or interacted with ever

Wo0tilici0us
I like the idea, but couldnt the person who owns the autoer first do the quest, and then program it to woodcut? schmuall
I like the idea, but couldnt the person who owns the autoer first do the quest, and then program it to woodcut? Yes, this is 100% true. It would not be the end to macroers. BUT it would severely mess them around. Let's just pretend for a minute that the life of a macro involves someone guiding them through tutorial island and then putting on the autocutting program. This takes all of 20 minutes. Now if there was a quest, that would take another 20 minutes to complete, this doubles the time a person would have to spend setting up the accounts. This would surely lead to fewer autoing accounts. If you then think that a large amount of the autoers are people from china and korea (mentioned in a jagex post) What's actually going on is that the VAST majority of the level-3 characters you see playing the game repetitively and not talking to anyone, are actually people from countries such as China and Korea, who are trying to collect RuneScape gold to sell for real world money (obviously against the rules). Now if these people spend their lives doing this kind of job, it's very unlikely that they actually speak english, so they would have to wait until an english speaking person was available to do their account. This means that it would take even more time to set up an autoing account. I hope this addresses your point. give F2P a penny and they want a dime; give P2P a quarter, they want 100,000 dollars, your car, house, boat, social security number, credit card numbers, drivers license, clothes on your back and everything you ever owned or interacted with ever

deyan2
Believe it or not, but after I understood normal peoples didn't want to pay like 300K to get rid of 95% of all the autoÃÆÃâÃâërs I wanted to make exactly this idea: requirements: 10 qp (so you must have completed a few other quests also) lvl 60 wc (so they can allready get cought if they are macroÃÆÃâÃâïng on willows, oaks and normal trees before they can actually start the quest). * Rune axe (that's the evidence that they are actually part of the game and the provement they haven't bought their axe from "Bob axes" if at the end is found out that it actually was a autoÃÆÃâÃâër anyway than Jagex is be able to check where he get the axe from (if auto1,auto2,auto3,4,5,6,7.... 97,98,99 all get their rune axes from one person, than is that probably the main  :), if that main is giving away free cash or items some times than the persons who are accepting his stuff are probably a real world item traders, so they can get banned also easely, that's a few problems at once gone ;) )) As you can see loads of autoÃÆÃâÃâërs are using bronze/iron/steel axes at this moment: * not sure, because it could be annoying if someone can't afford a rune axe... Nevertheless I still think my old idea (by paying 100K to be alloud to cut yew logs/fish lobbies or sharks or whatever read link) is better, because that way the autoÃÆÃâÃâërs will not get any money tnx to their software, but they will actually even lose it! Also the cash they get by playing a fair way before autoÃÆÃâÃâïng!! For that idea read this: http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=669710

Great minds and all that :D I like your idea, but there is one problem. The people who run the macroing accounts have a virtually unlimited amount of money. Even though I understand that they would be hurt by your idea to pay 100k, I'm pretty sure it would hurt real players a lot more. For instance, you suggest that you have to pay 10k to be able to use the shop beside Lumbridge castle. That's usually the first place a new player sees. I'm pretty sure that this will scare off a lot of new players and encorage begging (I can imagine the calls of "10k plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz" already). give F2P a penny and they want a dime; give P2P a quarter, they want 100,000 dollars, your car, house, boat, social security number, credit card numbers, drivers license, clothes on your back and everything you ever owned or interacted with ever

Normal players will only be hurt one single time, autoÃÆÃâÃâërs will be hurted every single time they make a account. Btw don't forget that most (indeed not all) normal players with lvl 60 wc or mining or fishing own more as 300 K each.
Id_Suge
I support 100%. I've just now started seeing the true benefits of yew cutting (meaning I found someone to sell my stuff too), and have also noticed the increasing flow of autoers in my favorite yew cutting areas. I mean this is one of the few things that will actually slow the surging tide of the autoers, because obviously random events don't do enough because you can easily outrun any of them. I do also think the quest would have to have some decent requirements as others have suggested i.e. level 60 woodcutting and rune axes to chop them down. Examples of items to get that would stop autoers for a bit are things that you have to physically interact with. I'd say like big bones (you have to kill a giant or run into level 27 Wildy, their choice) or planks since those are in the wild too. Definitely, at least one item would have to only be available in a store or it's something like the Phoenix F2P quest where you have to trade with others to get an item. As schmuall said it would at least double their start times. Props to schmuall for a great idea  ...now if Jagex could work it out and put it into place. Heres a hammer, some planks and a few nails, now all you gotta do is build a bridge and get over it. Id Suge- Latin for "Suck It"

For one, Autoers do not guide their characters through Tut Island, they use an Auto to get through. Also, Jagex contradicts your Bolded point directly, it says the vast majority are people who just play repetitively to gain and sell gold, it says nowhere that they auto it says PEOPLE who PLAY to collect gold. Not People who auto to collect gold.
