Deaners1212
I'm not trying to be a music snob or say people have bad taste, but I've seen a lot of people who like main stream music because it's catchy or sounds cool but in reality the music has no musicality or technicality whatsoever. Back to P2p soon!
hohto
In my eyes it's the atmosphere in the music. Musical skills can do it, the attitude in general might do it, it might be the vocals, all together or so. Musical skills don't really matter there, it's not like you could play some instrument "wrong" or "right" as it's "right" when it sounds good in someone's ears. I'd rather die for what I believe in than live for anything else.Name Removed by Administrator ~Turtlefemm
kickbuta
Good? your going to get alot of differnt anwsers personally i think the best sounding is blues, and good old Rock N Roll (pre 80s). But one cant forget some of the best and most well writen classical music by composers like Bach and Vogner (spelled wrong!). And a nice fast jazz peice is never bad. Ozzy_Patrick
How technically ingenius music is doesn't really matter to me. I think I'm attracted to music that has a certain feel to it. It's quite hard to describe but I like a song that feels like the music means something. Not necessarily meaningful as in the sense of having a deep thought provoking feel, just that it has it's own style. As for genre I like at least something from pretty much every genre, though most of the music I listen to has an element of rock to it. EDIT: I guess another way to put it would be music that strongly puts an image(s) into my head in many cases.

Lateralus
Heart is what makes music good. Devotion to the cause, and an emotional investment. La lune ne garde aucune rancune.
Chocobodude0
A good beat helps a song, but to me it's mostly about the song's lyrics. Deep lyrics (like stuff from Nas) makes me wanna listen to the song over and over, just breaking down the words being said. I can't bear listening to mainstream music nowdays because the majority of it is very simple lyrics with no real message. The flow is also pretty weak, and the rhyming very rarely evolves from single-syllable rhymes (such as hat, bat, cat, fat, etc., that sorta thing). Of course, I listen to rap/hip-hop, and that's it current state, which is very disappointing. I can't really say on other genres, because I rarely listen to other genres. Intriguing
with metal, skill and originality probably do it for me. also, you can't go wrong with a bit of discordance every now and then. ;) but then i also like acoustic, indie, and other genres of the like which, to be honest, don't actually take that much skill (prove me wrong). in that case, probably catchiness, ie, how good the melody is, do it for me. Cool.

Icingdeath
A melodic bass solo to start out, followed with a brutal rhythm riff. Throw in a couple of lead guitar solos and some double-bass on drums and you're good. I really wouldn't call it an era. It was more of a definitive time period during which dinstinctive characteristics were expressed in similar ways.
Poopingman
Lyrics mean little to me, instrumentals are where its at. Metal fans, check out my band!Still the King....
Ragen
Really depends on the genre. A good metal song has to have a really driving riff with a really aggressive, angry vocalist and drum and bass to give a filled up feeling. A good acoustic song needs a sad chord progression and a beautiful voice singing lyrics to match. Thanks Venomai for this super sig and Kwimbob for the awesome avatar! Futurama
Personally...ace melody, power, emotion. Of course technically there is no "good" music because it's all up to opinion!
Mr_Putter
Talent and chemistry, for lack of a better word. Most people can get good on an instrument given enough time and practice, but the best musicians and composers have some inner talent for writing good music and lyrics. The other thing is the way the music flows together, I called it chemistry, but the way the intruments work to create some greater whole. It seems like, in many of todays rock songs (as an example), the guitars fight for control with the vocalist, the drummer goes crazy to try to be heard, and the bass is just there because everyone things it should me. Many poor/average songs (IMO) are as such because their musicians aren't playing well/right together.
RpgGamer
music has a lot to do with mood. If your feeling good you may want to listen to something along the lines of the beach boys. If your sad, listen to panic! at the disco. I would say vocals need to be melodic, but ive seen some decent bands with terrible vocals, yet they still sounded good. why? well I guess it has to do with the combinations of notes given off by a specific combination of instruments. what makes it "good" is your own opinion Quote Quote Anyone who likes tacos is incapable of logic. God yes. =P~ Anyway I'll give you what I believe is a definitive answer. Good music is defined by the mood it makes effectively paralleling the mood the listener wants or the mood the listener likes to feel. I don't care whether it's metal with a discord that makes me want to rip my ears out or Jeff Buckley. If it makes me feel how I like to feel, I like it. timmay929
Good flow and lyrics. If you want to hear a good example of it you can't listen to anything that has come out within the past year or so. Because all youll hear is something to this extent- "This is why im hot this is why im hot" which is just pityful. 122 Combat : 99 Hits : 99 Attack : 99 Strength97/99 Defence : 99 Fletching : 99 Woodcutting
RayOxide
The beat. =] Stupid lyrics can make bad song(s) Eg: (In my opinion, don't flame it) Rihanna(Sp?)'s new song Umbrella... She says 'come into me' which sounds wrong. Very wrong I dont need a siggy no moar.
Guest
The Beat. Also the song has to be meaningful. In other words no pathetic lyrics like some of these new "Black" (can I say black or do I have to say Native African American) rappers. Seriously half of their lyrics are total crap atleast Eminem has meaningful lyrics in alot of his songs (well I think so atleast). Also a good film clip which goes with the song is an added bonus, but if your just asking about the song itself the beat and tune of the song has a massive factor in, if I like it or not.
