Mario games.. getting crappier by the minute.

Featured Replies

I remember the gold 'ol days, when mario games were the funnest game you could play on a nintendo console, but now, it seems like Nintendo's 'Mario' character is getting less famous, because of [cabbage]ty gameplay. For example, Super Paper Mario for the Nintendo Wii; it blows, hardcore. Its probably one of the most low budget games ever. The last good Mario game was probably Super Mario Sunshine, for the Gamecube.

Do you think things will change for Mario? Or will they just keep failing to give the excitement as they used to?

I just don't like the fact that some of the games rely heaviliy on the special items. For example in Mario Power Tennis, we turn off the power shots.

Some of the best Mario games at the moment are Mario Kart DS and New Super Mario Bros. I do agree that games like Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World were class as well.

I can't wait for Super Mario Galaxy :D

Mmhm. The last good game that wa soriginal was super mario sunshine. The rest are kind of gimmicky games that rely on the console's special features..and I hate it. The originals and the GBA games were great..but as soon as the cube and DS came...

Mario is only famous in my opinion because his classics were innovating at the time or just simpley a new type of gameplay.

Now that game engines are reaching their peak, most games are "I been there, I done that before".

For example.. Mario 64.. very innovating. A 3d world with all types of fun. In todays games, thats NOTHING compared to what game engines can do.

It becomes a endless cycle that a First Person Shooting is the same as the next one.. just different features/styles/models and enviroment settings.

Nothing innovating is being offered anymore, which is why it seems like games and their gameplay suck. We most likely played the same type of gameplay but better on another game that we got bored of.

I'm personally waiting for Crysis. Thats going to be the most innovating FPS ever to hit the market in my opinion..

mario games... Good times, I still remember as a kid playing them on a NES..

Well I currently own a GBA with 3 mario games on it (super mario world 2, yoshis island and mario kart) which I still play a lot!

The problem with the new consoles is that the community who buys/uses these consoles are too much focused on "3d" and graphics for a mario 2d games to be popular.. And mario IS 2d, if you make it 3d you will lose the whole "retro" aspect of the game and for me it isn't fun anymore..

First they came to fishing

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing

Then they came to the yews

and I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews

Then they came for the ores

and I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores

Then they came for me

and there was no one left to speak out for me.

New Super Mario Bros. on the DS? I'll agree, the sports ones (possibly with the exception of the new football one on the Wii) are rubbish, but let's not be too harsh here.

Super Mario Galaxy looks amazing. I watched a video of it on GameSpot, and it looked cool!

Only reason I say I dont like the newer ones is kind of obvious. We have 8 board-game based mario games with thousands of minigames (Mario parties 1-8)..2 mario tennis games..I heard about a mario football game..3 mario racing games..and dozens of different platforming games. I mean, the original games and some of the newer ones are good..but why throw the name all over the place? Sure, Mario Kart and mario parties 1-3 were good..but the concept has kind of been overused. That's just my opinion though.

There have always been Mario spinoffs. The only difference between the modern ones and the ones for the (S)NES is that the modern ones place much more emphasis on multiplayer (Tennis, Party, etc.).

I agree. I saw in a gaming magazine that speculated a Mario bullriding game  I'm not sure if it was legit or not. Haha.

There have been a lot of games but my favorite were:

Mario Tennis. (N64)

Super Mario Bros. (SNES)

Super Mario Sunshine. (GC)

Super Mario 64. (N64)

This is no peticular order.

I can't wait for Galaxy it looks good :).

Super Paper Maro was a great game, I've never seen a better platformer-RPG (Anybody wanna guess why? :P ). Plus, New Super Mario Bros. was a great game too.

I'll admit maybe outside of Mario Kart & the Smash Bros. series (if you consider that part of the Maro seires, of sorts), the spin-offs are awful, but I don't consider those Mario games. Don't worry though, when Galaxy hits, it'll be a whole new ball game. :D

The new ones are really bad the only new one i'll be waiting for is brawl and thats not centered on mario alone. Anyway, I think the last mario game that was good was Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, I loved the first and second and couldn't wait for the third but when I started to play it... I was heavily unsatisfied.

I have been a supporter of Nintendo gaming system ever since the N64 (before that I was a Sega fan). I have also never played a Mario game. The franchise has never done anything for me.

Personally I think Nintendo should use their imagination and not use 'Mario' for the theme of every 2nd game they make. Nintendo makes excellent games and Mario has a strong history but I doubt making every second game mario does much to help grow their user base. Nintnedio already takes a ton of flake over the cartoony graphics and a fat italian plumber is not exactly a exciting idea for a character.

I personally have never brought a game with Mario in the title and probably never well.

I think you never played Super Mario Strikers...

its true mario is starting to fall from grace, but think about it - he's been king video game icon for roughly 20 years. maybe its time he stepped down and let master chief to his throne.

awesome-ist mario game ever -

I agree, to an extent. Mario has had a good run, but the games are now mostly franchises, or sequels.

The code in my sig should say 1032 not 0132.

Technically he's in Super Smash bros., those games are getting BETTER by the minute.

Double dash was pretty good although i did like the old school games but these are good too. Super smash bros melee is good too.

I agree, and for that reason, im not buying Mario Galaxy. I think mario Galaxy is going to be the same old crap....Bowser takes over the world, mario has to run around collecting Stars/Coins until he has enough to finish off the waste-of-money game.

Mario Galaxy Is severely over-hyped. And i got a refund for Strikers Charged as soon as i bought it :x

Thanks to Hawkxs for my signature :)

I'm pretty sure Mario Galaxy thats comin out soon is a pretty good game.

But yeah, Mario's been ruining every sport too. Mario basketball, soccer, baseball, the volleyball and hockey games and other sport minigames in Mario Party series. Next thing you know, they're gonna have Mario lacrosse!

Apparently a lot of people say it. I own.

http://linkagg.com/ Not my site, but a simple, budding site that links often unheard-of websites that are amazing for usefulness and fun.

I find that while the sports games are hit and miss, Mario kart is possibly one of my favourite multiplayer games, along with Melee and a bit of Halo.

I want to try strikers, Tennis on the GBA was good, and I have fond memories of Golf on the 'Cube.

The party games have been pretty good, but once you've bought one you really don't need another, and I have two for some reason. 8| Nintendo is a buisness, and if Mario Party sells well then you can expect them to make more.

The platformers have always been excellent games, right up to New Super Mario Bros, possibly with the exception of Super mario bros 2.

In my experience,

Platformers = excellent

Spin-offs = mostly good with a few turkeys.
