Featured Replies

I'm not lovin most of that stuff......

The only one that I would have voted for was Petra, Jordan. That place is incredible(and its in Indiana Jones)

Listen to the mighty words of Bloodredsword.

Tip it MGC Xbox live leader board!

I voted for Machu Pichu, that place is AMAZING. :)

Are they keeping the old 7 as the "7 Ancient Wonders of the World"? If not, then I won't be happy.

As for the new 7, the only two I voted for were the Colosseum and the Great Wall of China.

Ithil luin eria vi menel caran...Tîn dan delu.

Wait, weren't the Pyramids of Giza already guarenteed to be in the 7, by the Egyptian government? I could have sworn that that agreement was made, as the Egyptian government considered it "an insult for them to have to even run for a place in the 7 World Wonders", or something like that. What happened?

Kick the frikking Christ Redeemer out of there and put the Pyramids in!

Fullmetal Alchemist, you will be missed. A great ending to a great series.

I thought they were supposed to be "wonders" of the world as in "Holy crap, I WONDER how they managed to do that..."

You know, the Great Wall of China, the Pyramids of Giza, etc etc...Now, I think that statue of Jesus is very cool, but I don't think any "new-age" things should really be considered for this...It was built with a crane and lots of money. It's cool, it's awe-inspiring, but there's nothing to wonder about.

Oh well.

The popularity of any given religion today depends on the victories of the wars they fought in the past.

I remember clearly reading on my Wii it said it was guareented to be on their because it was the only surviving ancient wonder left, and I think it is an insult, such architecture, sure durablity.

And I disagree with your last part though, I'd rather eliminate the Jordan thing, I have never even heard of that.

You'd kick out Petra over some easily-made modern-age statue!? o_O.

I swear, the only reason the Christ Redeemer even made it in there as a candidate was because of the vast size of Christianity in the world community <.< . Probably the only reason it made it to the Seven as well.

Religion is no reason for something to be called a World Wonder by architectural standards -.- .

No actually one of my reasons for the pyramids should be was because of architecture and it wasn't built with cranes so it wasn't exactly easy.

2 reasons why I disagreed with your last part was 1 I hate when people say something that is unnessisary use of vulgarity why call it a frikking Jesus statue instead of just a Christian Statue or what ever and two I don't care if you call me ignorant for not knowing what the Petra was until I read about it but I don't believe something is exactly a wonder if it isn't that widely known.

I think we could make a pretty good consensus on this forum that the main driver for the statue making it to the Seven was Christianity. That's the only explanation I can think of for something like that to be called a "World Wonder". Though mind you, I'd be scared if the Eiffel Tower or the Statue of Liberty made it to the Seven just as much as the Christ Redeemer, simply because it's far too modern (and not all that wonderous in matters of architecture) for it.

Eh, I wouldn't call you ignorant, and I never did. I hadn't even heard of it at all until 2 years ago, when I had to go to an exhibit on it for World History class.

I'm surprised it isn't more famous, it really is amazing :-k .

I agree with you and I am sorry for the misunderstanding, I didn't think you called me ignorant and even though I am Roman Cathlic I believe that one being of such religion should not vote for say statue just because it is of their religion. And I don't consider the statue, effiel tower, ststaue of liberty or any other "modern" architectural creations wonders unless its like a giant tower that is just breath taking and it connects the earth to the moon and makes the moon inhabitable then that would be a wonder lol.

I think Stonehenge and Pyramids of Giza should have made it in...

summerpngwy6.jpg

i think they should of stuck with the original ones.

The last seven are... The pyramids of Gaza...The Hanging Gardens...The Temple of Artemus...The statue of Zeus at Olympia...Mausoleum of Maussollos at Halicarnassus...Colossus of Rhode{Big statue of a naked guy :-X }...and the Light House of Alexandria

The only wonder still standing it the great pyramids. I think that the countries should have pooled their money and rebuilt the destroyed ones.

And the cavemen wondered how to make fire...

Im in the .00001% that finds Firemaking fun. If you find it fun add this to your siggy.

At the end of the day, these 'new 7 wonders' mean absolutely nothing. The whole thing was just a media driven marketing stunt organised by a swiss guy no one has ever heard of. He probably made quite a bit of money with his little idea.

I have no idea who decided they were 'official' . The only organisation which can even start to make such a statement would be UNESCO which has already dismissed the entire idea

Its all a load of rubbish and its clear the results were swayed. I read an article on the BBC that the Indian government was trying to get people to promote the Taj Mahal as is was really low on the top list of most voted for. Then lowe and behold 2 weeks later it makes the top 7.

As far as "wonders" are concerned Christ Redeemer shouldn't be there, nor should the Taj Mahal. Both too clean and new. Wonders are the Pyramids, Stonehenge and the statues of Easter Island. These are truly amazing.

Did I really see the face of C. Ronaldo with the letters "The new 7 world wonders" beneath it.

I'd like to have the kiyomizu temple in there and the Easter Island stuff. I also think Christ Redeemer and Taj Mahal are good choices. But I think the whole contest is nonsense. Why would you need seven new world wonders? The old ones did perfectly fine.

When the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!

Damn the Sydney Opera House missed out! :(

Ah well I wouldn't of expected it to get in there especially after the 60 Minutes report in Australia about it last night. Did any other Australian's see that on 60 Minutes? It needs a 600 mill renovation for it to be upgraded to an Opera theater of the 21st century.

Nah, I missed it. :wall: So was it just about the fact that it needs a rennovation?

You obviously forgot me, being the 8th wonder.

That's cool, but I've seen a neater e-mail about that.

They were asking little kids what they thought the 7 wonders of the world were. Of course, most said stuff like buildings, food, and what not. However, when one girl was asked, she said:

  • To hear,

    to see,

    to breathe,

    to touch,

    to smell,

    to love,

    and one other thing...

Can't remember the last thing, but I thought that was really neat.

That's what happens when you let normal people do the voting.

There's atleast three 'wonders' in those seven that have no business being there.

2480+ total

correct me if im wrong but aren't wonders supposed to make you go, wow thats beautiful, which credits the fact the Taj Mahal is there, but yeah even i disagree with the statue, its nothing special really, and its probably catholisismes power that got it in there in the first place. i don't think stonehenge shouldve been there it's not all that amazing IMO, it hardly matches up to say the colloseum in terms of structure, after all its some rocks in a circle.

Sig by me....

After careful consideration, the New7Wonders Foundation designates the Pyramids of Giza̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ã

My thoughts exactly. Why let normal people, some with little knowledge about all of them, do the voting instead of historians and government officials or whatever?

What I would make it...

Pyramids of Giza

Colossus of Rhodes

Great Wall of China

Machu Picchu

Colosseum

Acropolis/Parthenon

Can't decide on the last one. Taj Mahal/Petra/Lighthouse/Zeus

Its interesting to note that the Brazilian government teamed up with private companies to allow people to vote for Christ Redeemer for free...
