An example being bow strings, i refuse to spend 200gp because the greedy little ferrets who walk from the bank to the flax and then to the spinning wheel think they somehow deserve 2/3 of nature runes. I may buy the flax myself 100 ea and make them into bow strings but when i was going for 94 mage i did half myself and the other half i buyed so i eventually broke even. I've recently spent about 9.7m on dragon bones, then about 15m on yew/mage logs for 99 fm... So, basically, I don't mind buying the best maretials to use. I'm currently doing some more barrows to pull together enough money for a Dragonfire shield and 99 mage. If the answer is "no, they're worth 150k", then I could make money for an hour, and buy 2 hours of work, or I could work for an hour, and get 1 hours work. If the answer is "yes, they're worth 450k", then I could make money for an hour an a half, and buy an hour's work, or I could work for an hour, and get an hour's work. Same for me, I can make 300k an hour and if its better for me to buy, ill buy. Usually though I train more then 1 skill at a time so I wind up getting the materials myself. I'd say I collect and pay, half and half. For instance, I always collect my own snape for herblore, but never my own unicorn horns. I will sometimes pay for mortmyre fungus, or collect it myself depending on how much money I've got to spare etc.... Having said this, the majority of the time, if collecting something will earn me very little experience or none at all, I typically pay someone else to get it for me. No way am I mining 10k ess or mining 2k coal. tell that to trix. but seriously, the coal isn't that hard. oh wait, you're f2p sorry. but yeah, how did you make your money to buy all that? if it's not skills, it's merchanting. merrchanting is just as boring, and gives no xp. plus, you're basically taking someone else's money rather than making your own. and if it's skills, you're probably spending as much time making the money for buying the coal or ess as it would take to mine it. the you have to find a seller. that's why i don't understand why people who aren't insanely rich buy their supplies. much more efficent to get it yourself.
