Icingdeath
What song would you want to be played at your funeral? A friend of mine was recently killed in a car crash, and as I went by the site where she lost her life, I heard the song 'Snow (Hey Oh)' by Red Hot Chili Peppers on my stereo. I almost broke down crying. I don't know why, but it seemed like such a pretty song. That's what I want to be played at my funeral. I really wouldn't call it an era. It was more of a definitive time period during which dinstinctive characteristics were expressed in similar ways.
bartoron
I know this may seem like an odd song choice, but I'd want Interstate Love Song by Stone Temple Pilots.

aquariusman
A Moment of Silence OR The Big Sleep (Only if I ever join some form of militia/army) - Streetlight Manifesto Each one has a different mood. "A Moment of Silence" deals with all of the social outcasts. If you want proof, heres the main chorus: "a moment of silence please for those who never get the chance they show up to the party but they're never asked to dance the losers the liars the bastards the thieves the cynicists, the pessimists and those that don't believe in nothing" (Retrieved from http://www.sing365.com/music/Lyric.nsf/ ... 000006373D on July 22, 2007) Then for "The Big Sleep", I feel that would only be acceptable for someone involved in fighting because of the last few lines: the last two soldiers on the battlefield survivors of the war they aim at one another while their mothers beg the lord "if you're listening, i'm missing him so somehow bring him home how did it come to this?" so the soldiers lift their rifles and they're aiming at the head they think of their first love before they take their final breaths and somewhere in the distance they hear something someone said: "how did it come to this?" However, after posting this, I have realized that I could not care. They are both great songs and I feel they have been influential in my life so far in terms of how I deal with emotional stress and a few events in my life, mainly the death of my cat and moving from my childhood home. I am only fourteen, my cat died a few years ago and I had grown very attatched to her. When she died at first I was not affected, but then when I moved from the house I had lived all my life a year later, I realized just how much I missed my house, because I had so many memories and how much I missed my cat. Now I am not affected by these because of the music I listen to, namely Streetlight Manifesto and Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution (A side project of Streetlight Manifesto). I would rather someone else choose the song, preferably my wife (If I am lucky enough to have one). But by the time I hope to die, I know I will have another song to add. There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. Thatregret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new, better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret. It's experience. Intriguing
Well, if I outlive my wife, I'll put on Good Weekend by Art Brut.. Haha, weak.. anyway.. I don't really know. Something classical probably. Like one of the Shostakovic string quartets, or Lalo's Symphonie espagnole in D minor. Cool.

kickbuta
I'v actually thought about this before, and I'd pick "When The Music's Over" (ze Doors). goldphishies
Revolution, by Judas Priest. If you think it's over, better think again Fade to Black, by Metallica. Life it seems to fade away, getting colder every day Or When I'm Gone, by 3 Doors Down. Love me when I'm gone.... All really good songs, I'd love to have them played at my funeral. Necrophagus, what about the rest of the song? "I'm waiting in my cold cell/when the bell begins to chime/ reflecting on my past life/ cuz it doesn't have much time/ at five o' clock/ they take me to the gallows pole/ the sands of time for me are running low Bit dismal to talk about someone who's about to die at a funeral... Yet eerily fitting... Ragen
I'd go for some sad piano music. Stuff with no lyrics, right until the last part where people are leaving then I'd have Don't Stop me Now by Queen and Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd. List: Naruto - Sadness and Sorrow Utarda Hikaru - First Love Final Fantasy VIII - Sad piano tune (don't know the real name) Final Fantasy X - To Zanakand Final Fantasy VII - Aeris Song Lynyrd Skynyrd - Freebird (full version) Queen - Don't Stop me Now I'd finish with something I'd written myself, probally an acoustic solo. Thanks Venomai for this super sig and Kwimbob for the awesome avatar!
Nadril
Ha, I guess we can assume cheese will be served at this funeral. Also hallowed by thy name would be kind of an odd song to play, considering its all about a person who's on death row. For me its tough to decide. I could go for something different, such as My throne, looking over the kingdom of doom by Aardtmann op Vuurtoburg. Standard Doom metal song, might be fitting. Or I could go for some cheese with A change of seasons by Dream Theater. My pick would probably be a song by Jesu however, which is simply an amazing band. Some of my choices: Silver: i don't understand the pain i just don't feel quite the same when you hear them walk away left you here so you can stay silver's just another gold when you're bitter and you're old you could tell me anything but not what the future brings silver's just another gold (repeat x3) Dead Eyes: ...I'm convinced there are words here but I'm also convinced we'll never know what they are! edit: Animus- Track 3 might be fitting as well. Its an incredibly emotional song, but perhaps a bit too sad for what I would want at a funeral. I'd rather something uplifting.

speedofsound
Warning Sign - Coldplay A brilliant song, I think it would be perfect because the lyrics are very meaningful and it's not a very heavy song, light and easy going. A warning sign, You came back to haunt me and I realized, That you were an island and I passed you by, You were an island to discover. Piano Man - Billy Joel What can I say, I love the harmonica in this song, and Billy Joel is a brilliant singer. Sing us a song, youre the piano man Sing us a song tonight Well, were all in the mood for a melody And youve got us feelin alright Crystal Ship - The Doors Jim Morrison is one of the best singers/song writers ever. Before you slip into unconsciousness Id like to have another kiss Another flashing chance at bliss Another kiss, another kiss I'll Spend My Life With You [Alternate Version] - The Monkees Easy going music, deep, and nice to listen to. People come and people go Movin fast and movin slow Im in a crowd yet Im all alone The road is long the road is rough I do believe Ive had enough Im gonna turn around and head for home. Heaven - Los Lonely Boys Keepin' things upbeat :) I've been locked up way too long In this crazy world How far is heaven? I just keep on prayin', Lord I just keep on livin' How far is heaven? (Oh, Lord, can you tell me?) How far is heaven? (I just gotta know how far it is) How far is heaven? (Oh, Lord, can you tell me?) Knockin' On Heavens Door - Bob Dylan Reference: Best Singers ever, see: Bob Dylan Mama, put my guns in the ground I can't shoot them anymore. That long black cloud is comin' down I feel like I'm knockin' on heaven's door. Wots...uh the Deal - Pink Floyd Amazing, deep song, One of my favorites. To let me in from the cold Turn my lead into gold Cause there's chill wind blowing in my soul And I think I'm growing old Dust In the Wind - Kansas It just makes sense. Same old song Just a drop of water in an endless sea All we do Crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see Dust in the wind All we are is dust in the wind, ohh Castles Made Of Sand - Jimi Hendrix I'm not really sure why this one would be played at a funeral but I would want it played at mine! I think it's brilliant. Down the street you can hear her scream youre a disgrace As she slams the door in his drunken face And now he stands outside And all the neighbours start to gossip and drool He cries oh, girl you must be mad, What happened to the sweet love you and me had? Against the door he leans and starts a scene, And his tears fall and burn the garden green And so castles made of sand fall in the sea, eventually Thunderstruck - ACDC Another song you wouldn't usually see at a funeral, but I like it :P Sound of the drums Beatin' in my heart The thunder of guns Tore me apart You've been - thunderstruck Escape - Rupert Holmes The pina coolada song! :D "If you like Pina Coladas, and getting caught in the rain. If you're not into yoga, if you have half-a-brain. If you like making love at midnight, in the dunes of the cape. I'm the lady you've looked for, write to me, and escape." Our House - Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young Wow, I grew up on this song. Come to me now And rest your head for just five minutes Everything is good Such a cosy room The windows are illuminated By the sunshine through them Fiery gems for you Only for you I Won't Back Down - Tom Petty Moving. Well I wont back down, no I wont back down You can stand me up at the gates of hell But I wont back down Sweet Caroline - Neil Diamond Neil Diamond is amazing. [but now i Look at the night And it dont seem so lonely We fill it up with only two And when I hurt Hurtin runs off my shoulders How can I hurt when Im with you It's Sublime. Life is too short so love the one you got cause you might get runover or you might get shot Never start no static I just get it off my chest Never had to battle with no bulletproof vest Take a small example A tip from me take all of your money and give it up to charity Lovin's what I got It's within my reach In The House Of The Rising Sun - Animals I love the opening. There is a house in New Orleans They call the Rising Sun And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy And God I know I'm one Imagine - John Lennon John Lennon is a brilliant person. Imagine there's no countries It isn't hard to do Nothing to kill or die for And no religion too Imagine all the people Living life in peace Wow, once I got going I just couldn't stop :XD: You can't ever find a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any. You may think there is, but once you get there, when you're not looking, somebody'll sneak up and write "(bleep) you" right under your nose. Try it sometime. I think, even, if I ever die, and they stick me in a cemetery, and I have a tombstone and all, it'll say "Holden Caulfield" on it, and then what year I was born and what year I died, and then right under that it'll say "(bleep) you."
