My mum is having a heart attack.

Well, this is my newest thread.

Yesterday, I found out my mum is having a heart attack. It is continual or something, which means that her heart will keep having spasms, and she needs to take a few tests, and there are waiting lists, so she has to be there until atleast next friday. She is on an oxygen tank, and it is unlikely she will die now.

What expierences of heart attacks have you had in the past?

I think that's horrible that someone who is having heart attacks has to be on a waiting list. Our health care should be better than that.

I wish you the best for your mom, hopefully she makes a speedy recovery.

My friend had three heart attacks. I've know him only for a few years though. But when he was around 15 he had his first one. Then he had one at 17 and one at 21 or something. Now he hasn't got one for about 9 years. He's got to visit the Hospital a lot though. Freaky stuff, he's also near emotionaly numb. Brr.

Oh, yea. Good luck with your mom. Give her a hug from me.

With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.

Well my grandmother has had around 4 heart attacks during her lifetime, but its been about 3 years now since shes had one. shes currently 93. Most of them were not that bad, once she didn't even know she had it until the paramedics came to check on her (she wears this device that registers heart pumps, and sends a signal if she has a heart attack)

I hope that your mom will be alright. If she has a good doctor, she'll be fine. ^_^

My grandfather once had a minor stroke and we took him to the ER. While my family was sitting in the waiting room, I went outside to get some fresh air. There was a man out there sitting on a curb smoking. He nodded at me, and I nodded at him and I figured that would be the end of our interaction. As I was just standing there leaning against a wall, he came up and started talking to me, asking me where I was from and everything. It turns out he was from Ohio and was vacationing in our area (though I don't know why anyone would want to do that). As he lit up another cigarette he told me that he'd had a heart attack and that's why he was there. I then asked him why he was outside (it was near freezing, and raining on top of that) and smoking, to which he replied "Well, they told me to wait and the waiting room is so depressing.". I then asked him if he knew what the cigarettes were doing to him and he nodded saying, "I just can't kick the habit." then he coughed, politely excused himself, and went back inside.

I can't imagine why any hospital in their right mind would let someone do that. :S

Hey andufus. I do really hope your mum get's well soon, it sounds like everything seems to be going okay now. Give her a hug from me and all the tip.it'ers and you shouldn't worry. There maybe a waiting list but our doctors are good.

Way to put the rest of our threads into perspective. I don't know how old you are, but I'm guessing you're kinda young to be reminded of how fragile life is. I suppose its nice that you have somewhere like Tip.It to come to for support, and its nice that Tip.It is a nice enough place that people come here for that kind of support. I can only wish you, your mother and the rest of your family the very best and hope that you mother's condition improves sufficiently for her to enjoy many more years and to enjoy watching her grandchildren (you get busy now y'hear  ) growing up.

Why is 'common sense' so named, when there is so little of it about?

Welcome to puberty, we've been expecting you.

My dad has had a couple... One maybe 15 years ago, likely stress related. He changed some things, reduced stress in his life, quit smoking, and assumed he was safe. A few months ago he had another one, but it was serious; enough so to the point that if he hadn't have known he was having a heart attack based on his previous experience he probably would have died. He drove himself to the hospital (he was out of town), flew into town on a medical plane, and the next day they did emergency open heart triple-bypass surgery. At the end of the day his arteries were clogged and he needed to eat better and exercise more. But of course, at 18, they're making me do blood tests and get in good habits so I don't see the same fate, because genetics play a small role too.

Also, a couple of weeks ago a family friend died from a heart attack. Didn't know him well, but I suddenly realized how close to losing my dad we were. You got lucky with your mom, hopefully there are no recurring problems.

She'll be fine now, she is off the oxygen tank and is stabilised. She has to go through a few tests and an operation yet, and how2, I gave my mum your hug.

Great to hear she's doing alright!

Thanks. This post kinda reached me. I'm 13.

The support from people here is great, and its amazing how people can change their attitude so much from thread to thread. There is undiniably(sp?) a lot of flaming in the board, but the people can still be generous and supportive when they want to be, and it really calls out to me.

Thank you all for your support. Here is the most recent update.

She is in the high dependancy ward until wednesday, on thursday she gets moved to ward 10. Then she gets transfered on friday to wexem hospital to have a test/operation. They predicted positive results, and if they are she might be out on saturday. If they are negative then she will be on for a couple more weeks. But apparently any time before friday, she can have another heart attack, and if negative results she can have one afterwards.

My grandfather died from a heart attack :x

So did mine, the attack was brought on by years of smoking which didn't do him any good. He died a year or so before i was born so i never got to know him, which is a shame :(
