We all know how "effective" the censor is, and it's rare that you ever get a cuss through unless you 1337speak it, spell it so badly nobody can tell what it is, or type it like

So what's the point of reporting players for offensive language if nothing gets through? I guess people are offended by "**** *******"?

 

People should only be worthy of being reported when they managed to bypass the censor, that way there's no unjust punishment in case somebody happens to say something that was not offensive or rule-breaking in any way but still got censored.

yeah, i almost got a black mark when some guy hacked my account and said mother******, but all in stars. somehow, thats bad.

Well, the punishment for profanity in most cases is a smack on the wrist. This is to learn the player to be more cautious about what he/she writes to be viewed by other players in the game. I am sure parents would not be glad to see their 13 year old son learning profanity through a game that they dish out money for on a monthly basis. Jagex is being cautious and smart, it is entirely up to the people around you whether or not they report, and up to you whether or not you take the chance of saying something that may be censored. Be cautious, be polite, and it will all be fine.

Well if people would just talk in a civilized manner there wouldnt be a need for the censor. Sadly people talk stupid, bringing about the censor, then they try to bypass it.

Its pretty stupid because I think jagex said your not supposed to report people who say starred words. Doesnt that just admit that the censor is crap?

Swearing is not the only thing that this rule covers, it is also after harasment, rasism, bullying, chat spamming, and solisitation.

the thing is.. just about everybody who plays already knows profanity and just about every swear word in the book.. and most people dont really get offended by the things said.. and jagex censors things that dont even need to be censored.. like everyday words used.. i dont have an example at the moment though

Exactly its like dont say this but we wont clarify the gray area of the semi-offencive but not really. I got a blackmark for calling someone an idiot. Its not censored so I figured it would be ok.

wish they would make it possible to make the censurship an optional thing, option thats enabled standard, but can be shut down manually but a player via proving theyre over 13 or 18... since a lot of my native language is filtered (except the offensive stuff lol)

Thats quite an imature way of thinking.

 

 

 

Lets look at an example of my frined who works in a chineese takeaway (he is indeed from china), witht he state of drunk people rasist comments towards him are quiet common, he have probaly heard every offencive statment that you could make.

 

 

 

Just becase he knows of an offensive word or phrase does not make it non offensive. Jagex has a responsiblity to protect the player base, and censorship from offence is an important factor of that. Nobody should have to be exposed to offencive language.

 

 

 

We are on an online community, every word we write we made a consious desission to write. There is no reason why anybody should feel a need to write bad language, whilts in real life worlds can slip, it is just not nessasary in written form.

None if this cant be helped. You got the panzi lil mamas kid that reports everyone for nothing. Not to mention we gotta give some credit to some of our public schools for alot of profanity. The censor is to high powered as well this game is for people age 13+ and we cant say crap and sucks. I suppose we shouldnt have to worry about profanity if the age cap was followed... Oh well I blew off all my RS steam

Yeah Bobbington is right Rule 1 states that you can't report someone for offensive language if it is starred out, but technically if you do what a lot of people like to do and sware non stop you can be reported for Rule 1 under flooding the chat window. But really I can't understand why so many people will report for it, the only time I report it is if its non stop or extremely racist.

Well offensive language would be something like this:

 

"You german scum"

 

Or something like that. I hope I didn't offend anyone, it was just an example :oops:

well, anything you take offense to is offensive to you. is this not correct? i mean if your upset/troubled/angred/saddened by things people say to you, that is offensive, their for i feel it is reportable.

 

 

 

 

 

just like when people call other people a noob excessively, i just get tired of seeing it and report them, it offended my eyes i had to read a word thats utterly stupid and is not even a god damn word.

Sensitive souls should note that the Runescape chat filter is already there to stop people from swearing. I think I speak for everyone at Jagex when I say that I hate such crudeness as much as the next massively multi-player online roleplaying game; but if a word has already been censored, you don't need to report it.
