Age Oriented Worlds?

Did you know that on the Internet, you could lie about your age and there is no concrete way to prove how old you are (unless Jagex implements COPPA)? So this means that a 14 year old could come on one of these adult servers and see all kinds of stuff that he shouldn't. Ironically, that's around the same time his mom walks in to do the laundry and sees something flash across the screen that makes her blush. This leads to many an argument over the computer which will end up with a canceled subscription, broken modem, and a son that is completely upset.

 

 

 

So in other words, no an adult server need not be created. If you guys really can't stand the children that play, then stop playing.

Total skill level would be a more better requirement for these kind of servers than age.

Although if it said you need to be a certain age, all the younger people would storm the "mature" servers so the rest would be empty for the actual mature players :-w

In my opinion the age oriented will be a good update, why should you go in to a world with 70 year old man talking about the old good times if you are only 10 and like to play with teddybears?

 

 

 

And what's against some people who go into a world of a few year older age, aren't there also people who jump classes on school and people who do the same year twice?

 

 

 

But I also think it would be to easy for scammers to go into a low age world, and sell their thinderboxes for millions. (but mayby the younger kids dont got many money at all, so the problem should solve itself)

It's a good idea in theory(like communism was), but it would be too much of a hassle to organize this and it would be impossible to enforce the age requirements.

But seriously this would be a good idea, it can't net out all players into age groups but it would probably work a good bit, just like not everyone who plays PC plays on the PC world.

 

 

 

P.S.: Contradicting my above starting line, some 12 year olds are actually more mature then a few people 17 years of age.

I am in favor of this idea because I am an older player. I am 40 yrs old, and yes I have a life (job, hubby, 2 kids, dog,rl friends, house,etc.) but I still enjoy gaming. I think it would be nice to play without people asking me to be their gf. It freaks me out when people in game are hitting on me, and I know full well they are probably between the ages of 13 - 18, if not younger, it almost makes me feel as if I am the pedophile. As a mother I would not feel comfortable with my 13 yr old child having an online relationship with a 40 year old whom I did not know, and therefore don't feel comfortable doing the same to other peoples' children.

 

 

 

In my opinion the worlds would not have to be that age specific, perhaps a few worlds designated as 18 or older ....sure younger kids would sneak in at first, but hopefully the novelty would wear off and you would be left with a world of older players. As far as lifting the censors in the mature world goes, I don't think that would be necessary. Sure it would be nice to just say what you want, but typing out your words gives you that second to think before you speak which doesn't often happen with live speech, so use that second to think of something other than a swear to say.

How you suggest it sounds much better. Just having 3 or 4 18+ worlds would be great. Once the novelty wore off it would just be the older players and the younger ones who can can handle themselves maturally (I remember at 15 I connected more with people 20+ than others my own age). But I'm still very against have a world designed for something like 15 and under or even under 18.

If you designate a world 18 or over, hopefully younger or less mature players will get bored and go to other worlds. It is really no different than any of the other theme worlds. For example, the Falador party room world ....go there and the party room is packed, where on other worlds it is nearly deserted ...that is not to say if you go to this world, you must go to the party room

 

On an 18+ world, hopefully the majority of people would be over 18 and there can be intelligent chat at the mines, rather than just asking lvls? ....Maybe when I quote a funny line from a movie from the 80's , more than 1 person will get the joke.

 

 

 

I don't know....just my opinion. I love RS, and will continue to play regardless ...I have met many nice people whom I can chat with, but as I said, I am 40 and sadly given the number of predators on the internet I worry that my interest in this game and conversations I have with people whose age I do not know could be misinterpreted by some people. I usually am pretty quiet when I play and if someone does strike up a conversation and I get the sense they are very young I will tell them my age ...and then get the standard "You're old...why do you play RS ...get a life!" It would be nice to play in a world where there are older people who realize that 40 isn't dead yet, and us old folks can enjoy a game.

Self enforcement in this tense would be the same as the honor system at a high school's computer lab; there's no filter actively restricting access to pornographic sites or YouTube, but since everyone's on the honor system, they'll abide by it. Even if Jagex were to implement such a ludicrous idea, you can only hope that people abide by the rules, you can only hope that people younger than 18 aren't going to see this as fun; you can only hope. I'm not being naive .....I realize younger kids are all going to want to check out the 18+ world ...the point is there will be nothing to be gained in this world ....it will be the same exact runescape ....no naked characters running around....The Fally party room will not be turned into the Fally orgy room ....the censors will not be turned off, so butt will still be **** ...... What I think is once the younger crowd realizes it is a world like any other, but it has a bunch of old farts (in their eyes anyway), talking about old fart stuff they will get bored and go back to whatever world they usually go to.

Actually, in this case it's you that's being naive, in an intellectual sense. The thrust of his argument, similar to the one I advanced in my previous post, is that having a 'theme world' allocated by age would make it more probable that those of that age would be on it - claiming that it would fail because people not of that age could go on it is equivalent to claiming that the current theme worlds fail because people do other things than Castle Wars on World 24.

I wouldn't like it. I think it's better for the community to be together other than seperated by age. Being in a server where everyone is the same age would seem dull to me. Yes, there would less anoyyances if everyone was the same age but you wouldn't be able to learn from a more wiser age group than yours or be able to teach youger players better wisdom.

 

 

 

Also, there might be more rulebreaking going on in the youger groups as scammers would probably target this age group more than any other. With less guidence from older players, this could be very bad for the younger players.
