Age Oriented Worlds?

Jagex has already explicitly said they will not do this.

Much as I personally would like it, I can understand why they won't.

What I'd like to see is an IQ test when you make a new account

Would cut down the rc pkers; at least in higher worlds

IQ tests are not an indication of maturity. EQ tests would be more logical. But the whole idea of such a thing is preposterous anyway.

Small suggestion: I know it might get flamed, but oh well here it is. Jagex should develop a test that checks for general knowledge. They should have a broad range of questions dealing with capitals of countries to major wars. These should be easy for those who are 16+, a bit difficult for 13+ and hard for those under 13. These questions exist in any general knowledge book and Jagex should have 10 of them picked randomly from a set of 1000 questions and deliver them to each player. Cheating would be minimal but that is the only concern here.

Not going to flame you.. but what you and some others don't understand is that Jagex doesn't give a fig about the maturity level of its players.

They want money. Lots of money. That's all they really care about.

And they know that the main audience for this game is pre-teens and teens, so they are certainly not going to do anything that makes it difficult for new members to sign up.

Also, in any given game, the general consensus is that the role playing servers will have slightly more mature people playing on them ( I haven't tried them out in RS yet though, I assume it holds true for the most part though)

Could be true, my bet is that the "Role-Playing" title drive noobs away. But there are too many ways to enter a world without seeing its theme for this to work

This wouldn't work too well, you will always get an immature 12 year old going to 30 year olds "OMG get a life instead of playing this stoopid game for kids!". This would rin that idea completely, but perhaps if everyone is asked to submit there date of birth so they can restrict access to them thn perhaps it would work.

It would work perfectly in a perfect world (then again, in a perfect world, there would not be a need for this), but unfortuantely, it's a bit too prone to corruption.

Anyway, maturity and age are not completely linked. A 15 year old may be less mature than a 12 year old.

World 36 is for the older people which means you don't get the noobs asking for stuff that often. that is why i like 36

Bad idea

1-would break the whole "privacy" thing...yes I know its complicated for some of you; deal with it :P.

2-Would make it less fun; Alot of my friends in rs have very different ages then me(most older, but a couple much younger). yes I have mature young friends.

thar you go

Reminds me of furcadia, all the little kids lied to get into the 18+ porno portals. Then on the forums there was parents complaining about the 18+ portals to be such a bad influence on their kids, and so on. I think they'd did that because if they didn't, the 18+ portals would have been all over the place.

Please don't do this. I wouldn't want to be stuck in a world with only 13-14 year olds. I'm pretty mature for my age, but the rest of my agegroup seems to only talk about gay jokes and porn :wall: I get enough of that crap away from RS.

Then there come the noobs who lied about their age

Erm, I've been playing WAY before the age rule came along. I think I've been playing since I was 8 (Yesh, around 5 years)...But I have a terrible memory :P

But, anyways, I often best people who say they're 16+ years of age in arguments simply due to their lack of maturity and/or knowledge (I R SMRAT!!!! <3: ).

ON TOPIC: I'd have to go with the 30+ age group, simply because I can't stand most people my age...Maturity sucks <.<

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

How many people answered seriously when they were asked "whats your age"

i discovered runescape when i was 12, but i waited until i was 13 until i started playing. :anxious:

i think it's an interesting idea, but you can't really enforce it...

good idea, but tbh i dont c how they could make it work
Of course people wouldn't exact follow the rules, but knowing you're in a world where the majority of people are similar in age would be good. I'm 16, I just want a more mature world to play in.

you do realize, that by many standards, you are in a demographic that is considered immature by default :D

This would be interesting. Often times I'll deal with 3-4 people in a row who I can conclusively say are between the ages of 9 and 12 and it's a little unsettling

Actually, when I'm on the RP server I don't see that many people actually TRYING to role play... I would, if other people were with me ;)

As was probably already been said it would be a nightmare to try and organise. How do you prove your age over the internet and on a game?

Also there are some 12 year olds who are more mature than some 30 year olds.

This idea has been brought up many times and I am still undecided if if would be good or not.

I second that. It would be too hard to separate the different age groups. Level of maturity is not dependant on age, but on the individual itself. There are some 13 year olds that are incredibly mature, while I've seen 26 year olds throw tantrums, you'd be amazed. Unfortunately, the majority of Runescape tends to be less mature than we hope them to be. It would seem that making age specific groups would defeat the purpose, as kids of lower age would sneak in to have a laugh anyways.

I support this, as I don't believe the preceding counterarguments are valid. What the OP appears to be suggesting isn't a coded age range for particular worlds, but rather age-bracket themed worlds in a manner analogous to the recent update. Now, while this would of course leave the door open to younger people entering the older bracket-world and vice versa, it would make it more probable that people utilising this system would encounter others in their age group. This is a good thing, for reasons which appear to have eluded previous posters.

Put simply, it's not about maturity. Maturity is, at best, a loosely defined concept which comes across as a set of parameters for behaviour which typically varies from person to person. I don't particularly care how mature someone is, whatever that means, as long as they're interesting to talk to. And that's where this suggestion comes in - people in similar age brackets are much more likely to have similar interests and experiences. I'm in my 20s. I don't particularly care what GCSEs people are doing unless I already know them. Similarly, I imagine very few 13 year olds have little to contribute to a discussion about their experiences of the job market. I'd rather play on a world where people are more likely to share my interests - even if it attracts the occasional idiot who yells, "OMG oldzzzzzzz!!!!111!!".

I disagree. First of all, how will jagex make it work? there'll be scammer sinvading the kid worlds in hopes of scamming gullible targets. then those kids will move up to older age worlds. and of course, the fact that not all kids are immature. Its exactly why i wrote one of the new tipit times letters. I'm getting very annoyed at people who blame younger players for immaturity. Even if the worlds were divided by age, there would still be immaturity in every world. So stop shoving the blame on someone else k?
