Do we REALLY exist?

Once I had a dream of Eminem rapping "Without me" to the Benny Hill soundtrack. Searched it the next day and it turned out a version exists, to great effect! :P

I guess we're figments of your imagination then. You created Eminem's new song with your mind. Therefore, you have control over reality.

hey can you realease halo 3 early?

If it were up to me, after Halo 2, there wouldn't be a Halo 3 ;)

blasphomey!

whoa, I thought of this same kinda idea of not existing around 5 am the first time I pulled an all-nighter. That was fun.

But anyway I suppose even if we aren't real, we should still think we are real so that we have something to base everything off of. You need some kind of constant in anything.

Do you think you are the center of the universe and we are all just your creation? Yes.

I do not think I am the centre of the universe, I think that a super massive black hole is the cantre of the universe. I am conceited at times, however this question only came from a chain of thoughts and I thought i would be a good topic for discussion. Basically, I was either wrong, based on the the amount of people waying I should just stop thinking about it, or I was correct, based on the fact that in the space of a couple hours, this thread gained four pages of posts.

There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,

and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. That

regret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new,

better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret.

It's experience.

I believe in Descartes quote 'cogito ergo sum'. But in what form, or if all this what we perceive is real, that's something we can't be sure of, although a scenario like ÃÆÃâÃâà la the Matrix seems highly doubtable to me. If it was true however, and I would not know, I wouldn't care either. I'm living the good life, if I'm serving as a battery or if I don't know the real truth doesn't matter to me.

Bill Hicks[/url]":dhj2kan9]Since the one thing we can say about fundamental matter is, that it is vibrating. And since all vibrations are theoretically sound, then it is not unreasonable to suggest that the universe is music and should be perceived as such.

The scientific reason for this feeling is because every thing, everyone we see is really upside down, our eyes are mirrors, if you don't believe me, do an internet search on it, so according to aliens, we would be spider people... :D :D

He's talking about how our retinas (or whatever part of the eye, learned this months ago...) flip the visual information to make it coherent, but that's only after it's already been flipped just from viewing it. So it's like unflipping a flip really.

So ya, he probably was going around Wiki, read it, and didn't think about it too much :| .

Fullmetal Alchemist, you will be missed. A great ending to a great series.

I know what he meant by the eyes upside thing, I didn't understand the aliens, spider people, and the "scientific" reason. <.<

The "scientific" reason for his opinion is that he uses aliens as a form of [outside] observer to us who "see everything upside down". He thinks that aliens would think we're spider people, 'cause apparently his logic lead him to think we walk upside down too (however relative that is) since we flip the visual data as it goes to our occipital lobe in the back of our head. Walking upside down=spider people. Or spider pig, whatever.

So ya, that's his logic.

It somehow made even less sense when you explained it. =P

Maybe. No one can possibly know for sure.

But i believe we do exist. If we're just forms of energy or real life forms, I don't know. But we definetely exist. Overwise we would not be able to see, hear, touch, smell and taste. these senses prove our existence and other existences. Unfotunately in some cases our senses are decieved and we see things that are not real. But what our mind wishes us to see. That is a false reality. We must confirm what we see and hear by touch.

in order for something to exist we must acknowledge it. We do this using our senses to decide whether it is an illusion or reality. With acknowledgement comes reality.

Watch noein and you will understand.

There was this certain Chinese poet/philosopher who dreamt he was a butterfly, only a butterfly and not a human, with no memories of being a person. Then he (butterfly) went to sleep; he woke up and realized it was just a dream, that he was a human.

So his question was, is he a person dreaming he was a butterfly, or a butterfly dreaming he was a human?

Knock yourselves out with that one. ::'

Life is a joke. Yeah, I don't get it either.

I don't think it matters if we exist or not. It's our perception that matters. We perceive ourselves as thinking and existing matter, so we behave as thinking and existing matter, which is fine by me.

Not much use in pondering about things you can't possibly know. I'd rather break my head over other things, problems that need and can be solved. Obviously, I'm too practical to be a good philosopher :).

Party-pooper. I thought I had a good one.

But still, no way to know that unless you're a butterfly yourself. But then you are bugging me...Get it? Bugging me? Get it? :D :?:

I just finished watching Neon Genesis Evangelion...

Im all done questioning existence.. those last 2 episodes would melt your head if you thought about them for too long.

OH MY GOD! I love that anime! *points to sig*

I can't wait until Rebuild of Evangelion comes out to the U.S.

On-topic: If solopsism is true, none of you exist. That would mean that I could manipulate the perception, correct?

So I'm going to test this. I just caused everyone to die and the souls of everyone just formed a new entity. The world is now black and has a reddish hue. In 1000 years, the world, the sun, the moon, the solar system, the galaxy, and the entire Universe will fade away. Time will restart.

Oops. I guess it didn't work.
